what a girl wants

he’s got the moxie. He’s got the sexy.

“Life’s a beach. Then you have sex on it.”

Travel journalist Maddie Saunders has new attitude, and wants two new accessories to go with it. One, turn her triple-X fantasies into reality with Mr. Sex-On-Legs—her friend, Alex Donovan. And two, find her biological father to see if her gene pool has a deep end. She never expected fulfilling both wishes would take her life down a drastically different path.

“Sometimes you’re the windshield, and sometimes you’re the bug.”

Alex, an investigative reporter, grits his teeth when he accepts a joint assignment to Hawaii with Maddie. He’s vowed to never get involved with any woman he can’t walk away from. Maddie falls under the heading of “Look, but don’t touch”. Trouble is, she excels at giving him a hard time—in more ways than one.

He manages to fend off her guerilla seduction tactics until a bone-melting kiss throws his resolve into the ocean. Complicated? Absolutely. Especially when he discovers the real reason they were sent to the island…

Warning: Side effects may include but not limited to, spontaneous, uncontrollable laughter, hot flashes and dangerous chocolate cravings. Contents include, one kick-ass heroine and a sex-on-legs hero whose kiss could singe the eyebrows off a mannequin. Can be read in bed with someone special or aBOB (battery operated boyfriend). Please note: Batteries not included.

Gitte: 4 funny and sexy stars

This was a funny, mysterious and sexy friends-to-lovers story. It pretty much had everything you’d want for pure indulgence. This was my first book by this Author and I thought the characters were really well written and I absolutely love this Author’s style of writing.

Right so; we have Maddie, a travel journalist who wants to take her long standing friendship with the gorgeous Alex to a new level. Her methods for achieving this “sex boot camp” are so funny I had tears from laughing at times. But then again I completely connected with Maddie; I loved her sense of humour. Yes it was cheesy at times but it was sarcastic and spot on in the main. She has such attitude and charisma yet nurses a sweet vulnerability which is quite hidden by the easy going and comical exterior.

Maddie has no idea who her Father is and her relationship with her Mum is pretty strained and non-existent. In parts, this story was really quite emotional and heart-breaking when it came to her past and the effect it had on her future.

So this story sees Maddie trying both to find out who her Father is as well as getting some nookie with Alex purely for fun…no strings attached…oh and it is set in the stunning Hawaii of all places. Destined not to fail right?! Two extreme emotions ensues for the reader…the sadness surrounding her family and the hilarity surrounding her quest for Alex. Though both come to a tangled climax, (no pun intended!), that made for compulsive reading.

As for Alex, he is a tall and strong protective alpha male with a wicked sense of humour….he is just lush!  Him and Maddie are pretty tight and constantly play pranks on each other so when she starts pretty much making every word  out of her mouth a sexual innuendo the onslaught on his senses are…well…hard to keep up with. Problem is though, that Alex works for Maddie’s Uncle and does not want to ruin a great friendship. He also does not want to hurt her as he cares very much for her.

Alex and Maddie may have started their journey off as friends in Hawaii but both become pretty surprised by the turn of events and realise that they may have bitten off more than they can chew.

This story has quite a slow build up, however it sets the scene for a pretty fast paced second half.  I don’t want to spoil this story as there are so many twists and turns that it should be experienced with fresh eyes. But what I will say is that this is definitely a class read that will have your pulse racing and have you laughing, swooning and maybe a bit teary too.

City Knight (City Knight #1) by T.A. Webb

City Knight

“Once upon a time, in the kingdom of the south, there was a scared young man named Sir Benjamin. Now, Sir Benjamin, he’d been alone since he was a young man, and nobody wanted him and he didn’t want anyone. At least, he didn’t think he did. Then along came the City Knight, Sir Marcus, who was charged with protecting the people of the kingdom. His armor was a little dinged, and his heart a little tired, because he’d loved and lost and wasn’t sure he could love again. Then one wet, cold night, he met Sir Benjamin, and rescued him.”

Marcus felt a single tear run slowly down his cheek. “No, baby, you have that wrong. It was Sir Benjamin who rescued Sir Marcus.”

Benjamin kissed the tear away and whispered, “They rescued each other. But, baby, it’s not the end. With you, it will never be the end.”

Gitte:  LOVED this short story Jenny, to say it packed a punch may be describing it mildly. I was immediately hooked and I loved the characters Marcus and Ben, they broke my heart. I was carried off into the story and could have just kept going and going wanting to learn more about these two complicated and damaged men. Wish I’d known about the cliff-hanger ending though because when it suddenly finished I may have almost thrown my kindle at the wall on a NO!!!!!

Jenny:  Me too Gitte! I was immediately drawn into the story of Marcus and Ben  and sorry I didn’t tell you about the cliffhanger but if I had to suffer it then I had to make you suffer to0 😉  I was NOT prepared for that ending nor for it to end it in such a spectacular cliffhanger….it nearly killed me, but oh what a story this was.  I was enthralled and just wanted more because I was so invested in these two men and their stories.

Gitte: Marcus and Ben are so very different but each compliments the other and together they meet their individual needs. They immediately see pain in the eyes of the other and they feel the connection. However, neither declares their feeling from the outset. We have Marcus a retired cop; the nightly protector of his neighbourhood streets, spurred on by a traumatic even in his life which scarred and hurt him deeply, leaving a shell of man just existing. Then we have Ben, a graduate student turned rent boy to pay for student loans, who is still coming to terms with a horrific attack in his past that left him with an inability to form a relationship.

They meet in the night and once their relationship carries into the day, Ben’s traumatic pasts catches up with him and then…..that happened!!! That’s all I’ll say to avoid spoiling a story that should be experienced without spoilers.

Jenny:  These two characters are certainly night and day.  So different yet so perfect for each other. They each bring something the other craves. We have Ben who is making a living and surviving the only way he can, selling his body to earn his way through university and is trying bury memories of a painful past.  He gives himself one more year of living this life before putting it all behind him and moving on and getting out of Atlanta.  One more year until he can start living.  The victim of a crime, he’s stopped caring and is shut off emotionally.  Then we have Marcus.  An ex-cop hell bent on keeping the Atlanta streets clean.  Marcus, who carries scars of his own, has long lost his heart and he too, is just existing.  He fears moving on because to do so would mar the memory of the man who owned his heart.

These two opposites are drawn by a connection from the first meeting.  The intensity, chemistry and sheer emotion between these two was palpable and I felt every moment of it.  I am so invested in these two and ache to see how their story unfolds.  Two damaged men….one wanting to move forward, one wanting to live in the past.  Can they both find a way to heal each other?

Gitte: I thought Ben and Marcus’ story was beautiful to see unfold. It was sad, it hurt my heart, it was scary and it was pretty hot too. I thought this Author did an amazing job; through brilliant writing and two lovable characters, this short stories is one of the best I have ever read for impact and emotions. I was so not ready for it to end when it did and I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

Jenny:  This was an emotional, heart stopping,  gut wrenching and steamy read which I devoured throughout.  While the story itself may have been short, it certainly didn’t lack depth or character development and I felt the author did well to have me connect and empathize with these two men so much, in such a short time.  Just wonderful.  I can’t express enough how much I loved this book.

Selling Out (The Lost Girls #2) by Amber Lin

Shelly Laurent escapes her life as a high-class escort, but against her better judgment she takes the scared young Ella with her. Framed for murder by her pimp and his dirty cops in retaliation, Shelly turns to the one man who could be her salvation: Detective Luke Cameron. She doesn’t know if she can trust him or if he’s just a mirage, but it’s time for her to take a stand. Just one shot, make it count, she’ll fight Ella’s demons—and face her own.

Shelly throws light on the shadows of Chicago’s underworld, challenging everything she knew and the man she’s come to love. Together, a prostitute and a cop fight for truth stronger than secrets, hope deeper than deception, and a bond more enduring than betrayal.

So I loved Giving it Up which is book #1 in this series and couldn’t wait to get my hands on Shelly’s story in Selling Out as she is such a complex lovable character. I have to say that these books definitely need to be read in order. I found them to be quite dissimilar but then Allie and Shelly are two very different people and this Author’s writing suited both as ultimately her writing style is raw and hard hitting.

Amber Lin has a very unique style and I personally love it.  Her writing highlights that life is not a fairy tale, it is not always wrapped up in pretty bows and sparkle, it can be dark, torturous both physically and mentally.  Innocents are wronged and children are robbed of the childhood they deserve. This is real yet the ugliest reality can turn into something beautiful through hope and desire and the love of a good person and a good person can come in many guises. Surrounding a vulnerable soul can be a hard and tough exterior. The question of morality is all encompassing!

Shelly’s story broke my heart for so many reasons and it certainly shocked me many times. There is tragedy, betrayal of the highest order and the deceptions are a plenty.  Shelly knows no other life than prostitution, pushed into it kept in it by force and fear trying to save others thinking it will ultimately save herself.

Shelly is vulnerable but it is hidden so well under a tough brick wall of nonchalance, a great sense of humour, her sexuality and stark realism. Shelly will confuse and frustrate you but she will take a piece of your heart as well.

Shelly wants to change her life, shrug the dark oppressive cloak of her childhood and past, she is exhausted and weary and the separation between her perceived notion of Luke and herself is overwhelming.

“I know I promised I wouldn’t do it anymore but I am about to go bang assholes for money. I tried to join the regular world, but they didn’t want me. I’m sorry. Don’t hate me. Help me.”

Luke, now where do I start? Despite me being puzzled by him at first; my connection was immediate, I knew there was more to this gorgeous cop who had a big heart, and I knew there was something we hadn’t been made privy to yet; something dark. I fell for him completely and totally got why Shelly was drawn to him, wanted him; saw him as the good to her bad. Luke wants Shelly, but he wants Shelly without the façade; without the games in other words the real Shelly that is buried underneath her profession.

Luke knows they can be together, he has all the pieces, some of which includes his own painful and dark past, yet he is unwilling to share and he is prepared to wait for her. Shelly hasn’t even begun to find her way, to understand, to realise that she deserves the good and the love.

Shelly and Luke’s story is addictive and compelling. This story is emotional, dark, erotic, suspenseful, traumatic and raw. It will have your heart hurting yet you will laugh plenty too. I can highly recommend this series.

I have to just mention that I loved catching up with Allie & Colin as well as Philip. I know I probably shouldn’t like Philip but I do…I want his story!! Oh and Major’s too….

If your boss was the hottest rock star on the planet, would you mix business with pleasure?

I’m Meg Stiles. This is my leaving party. And that song we’re making a mockery of? That’s written by one of the biggest rock stars in the world. And I’m moving in with him tomorrow.

Seriously! I am not even joking. Well, maybe I’m misleading you a little bit. You see, I haven’t actually met him yet…

No, I’m not a stalker. I’m his new PA. His Personal Assistant. And I am off to La-La Land. Los Angeles. The City of Angels—whatever you want to call it—and I can’t bloody believe it!

Celebrity PA to wild boy of rock Johnny Jefferson, Meg’s glam new life in sun-drenched LA is a whirlwind of showbiz parties and backstage passes. Cool, calm Christian, in town to write his famous friend’s biography, helps keep Meg’s feet firmly on the ground. But with Johnny’s piercing green eyes and a body Brad Pitt would kill for, how long will it be before she’s swept right off them again?

4 Star Review by Jenny

I read these two books in one sitting and absolutely loved every minute.

In Johnny Be Good we meet Meg Stiles.  Megs is offered the dream of  PA to Johnny Jefferson, the man of the moment……. uuber hot rockstar extraordinaire.

Megs leaves from her home in London to start a new life in LA, working for Johnny and putting up with all his crazy antics, all the while trying to convince herself she won’t fall for him.  Oh good luck with that Megs! Of course she does and what follows is a fun, and at times touching story of the relationship between these two.

Don’t worry.  This isn’t the…Johnny sees Megs and changes his ways in five minutes story. Johnny is set on self- destructive.  He’s your stereotypical rock star…booze, drugs and women.  They’re his addiction and Johnny has a hard time leaving any of them alone. There were many a times I uttered “oh no Johnny, you didn’t” when Johhny royally screwed up and many a time my heart went out to Megs.

Megs is lonely.  She left her life and her friends behind and working for Johnny and having the feelings she does just makes her sadder and lonelier than ever.  Her one confidant is Johnny’s closest friend, Christian, who he has known since his childhood days in London.

Christian is in town to write an autobiography on Johnny and Megs and Christan form a friendship which leaves her conflicted in her feelings between Johnny and Christian.

To say Johnny gives you whiplash is an understatement.  One minute he is sweet, beautiful Johnny then the next minute he’s drunken, drug laden, womanising Johnny and you want to slap him.

I sooo wanted to dislike Johnny because of what he puts Megs through but I couldn’t. I loved Johnny Jefferson…he’s your quinteissetnial hot bad boy rock star and I loved him…..with all his flaws and shortcomings I still loved him.

I really did like Megs.  I loved the humor she had and the way she handled situations though I did want her to stand up to Johnny more.  I wanted her to stop letting him treat her the way he did and tell him how she felt.

I absolutely enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down.  It does end on a cliffhanger but at least you have book two Baby Be Mine to dive straight into.

**Warning – Synopsis contains spoilers for book one**

‘He’s not mine, is he?’ That’s the question I fear the most. You see, I have a secret. My son is not fathered by my boyfriend, but by one of the most famous people that ever lived. And he doesn’t even know it.

One-time celebrity personal assistant to wild boy of rock Johnny Jefferson, Meg Stiles is now settled and living in the south of France with her doting boyfriend Christian and son Phoenix. But they’re living a lie – a lie that will turn their lives upside down and inside out. Because Meg’s son doesn’t look like Christian, he looks like his rock star father and, sooner or later, the world is going to realize …

4 Star Review by Jenny

I have to say I didn’t enjoy BBM as much as JBG but I still did enjoy it.  It was a little slow to begin with but then it picked up and I found myself wanting to get through to see how it ended.

I can’t say too much because I don’t want to give anything away from JBG because this book picks up where that one left off.

Let’s just say, there are changes afoot in Johnny’s life – one particularly HUGE change and seeing Johnny in this book was a revelation.  I adored him.  If he got into my heart in JBG then he positively burrowed deep into it in this book.  Oh don’t get me wrong…..he will still frustrate the hell out of you and you WILL want to slap him upside the head a time or two to get him to wake up to himself, but the tender moments will melt your heart.

This was a perfect end to these books.  Loved the epilogue and it rounded things off nicely for me.  All in all I really enjoyed these two books.

Knight and Play (Knight Series #1) by Kitty French

knight and playGitte: 3.5 stars
Jenny:  3.5 Stars

Gitte:  First of all….Lucien Knight!!! How can you not immediately lust after a tall gorgeous and loaded Viking named Lucien Knight? This was pure hot filth with a story line hanging on by a thread in the background. Was there too much filth…yeah I am surprised to say for me there really was. I found myself at times skimming…shock horror…to learn more about our characters outside of the bedroom/kitchen/plane/Jacuzzi/sauna/tree etc…….But the thing is the Author made me want  to know more…I wanted to know these characters because I kind of liked them.

Towards the end I was pleasantly surprised that we got closer to Lucien and I really felt for this gorgeous Viking!  I didn’t connect with the heroine Sophie at all because other than learning her hubby was a cheating arse that was it really.

I am hoping book #2 solves her for me. This is a short erotic read that will have your pulse racing and despite not having much of a story-line I will definitely pick up book #2 for Lucien and the cliff-hanger!

Jenny:  Hell yes! Lucien Knight I hear you!  It would be impossible not to be in lust with that man.
This story sure was pure smut and if you’re happy with a story that’s a bit top heavy with smut and not a lot of plot or story then this book will be right up your alley.

I like more story…don’t get me wrong…I love a story with heat and a bit of smut on the side, but this one was a little bit too top heavy for me as well GG.

I didn’t really feel the connection between Sophie and Lucien because I felt I didn’t really know them.

I am however looking forward to the sequel which releases in April because I think the author will bring this all together and I can’t wait to read it.
