Hanna Boudreaux has lived in the small town of Willow all her life. She’s sweet, cute and quiet.
Hanna has a moment of epiphany when she realizes her crush for forever, Raiden Ulysses Miller, is not ever going to be hers. She sees her life as narrow and decides to do something about it.
Raiden Miller is the town’s local hero. A former Marine with the medal to prove his hero status, he comes home, shrouded in mystery. It takes a while, but eventually Hanna catches his eye.
After all these years of Raid and Hanna living in the same town, the question is why? Is Raid interested in Hanna because she’s sweet and cute? Or does Raid have something else going on?
Jenny: 4 Stars
Gitte: 4 stars
Jenny: So glad we finally get to meet Raid. Raid is Book Three in the Unfinished Hero Series. I love Kristen Ashley. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Reading one of her books is like coming home to me. I know I’m going to become immersed in her stories and characters from the outset and KA never fails to deliver. I adore her characters and stories, and Raid was no exception. I really did enjoy this story.
Raid is divine. Kristen is the queen of the alpha male character and Raid is no exception. He is alpha, hot, built like a brick, speaks his mind and leaves his woman in no doubt whatsoever how he feels and what he wants. Yes siree, I absolutely loved me some smokin’ hot- “he’s got it all going on” ex-marine Raiden Ulysses Miller. What about you Gitte?
Gitte: Yes! Raiden Ulysses Miller, I pretty much love you despite your Mum naming you after a romance hero…and yeah I think your name is pretty bad ass too hahaha!! In Raid we meet another awesome KA alpha male hero; a hero only she knows how to write. He is gorgeous, strong, protective and goes for what he wants. Raid hasn’t had it easy. He grew up under difficult circumstances and then went to war as a marine in Afghanistan. Once he returned home he went to work for Knight. Raid has seen the ugly and the tainted so he needs the good; the un-spoilt….his reward. I was hooked immediately and read this story in one sitting because it’s Kristen Ashley and every time she releases a book I drop everything because as you say Jenny, picking up a KA story is like coming home!
Jenny: Hanna Boudreaux was such a sweet and beautiful character. I just adored her. This book had all the elements we love in a Kristen Ashley book. The bossy hero and the cute, yet strong heroine who steals the heart of the untameable guy and as usual, it’s handled with warmth, love, humor and heat.
Hanna is at a crossroads in her life when she decides she is going to make changes. Hanna wants to change herself and her surroundings, but then, out of nowhere, Raiden unexpectedly takes a shine to her. Hanna has loved Raid from afar for years and has yearned for him so Hannah questions Raid’s sudden interest in her. Can his feelings be real or does he have an ulterior motive? After all, he has “known” Hanna since they children but he never given her a second glance until now.
Gitte: I loved Hanna; she was sweet, funny, kind of geeky, endearing, a bit naïve but has an inner strength that shines through. She has that sparkle as all KA heroines do and I connected with her immediately. I loved that she has had a secret crush on Raid since her childhood and tries to get him to notice her. As real life tends to happen though, as soon as she gives up and just decides to enjoy life and not worry about it…Raid notices Hanna; he wants her…she is his reward!
Jenny: Me too Gitte, Hanna was so easy to love. Hanna and Raid reminded me so much of Ty and Lexie, two of my favourite Kristen Ashley characters. I absolutely ADORE these two. They are daggy, cute, warm, wonderful characters and herein lies the reason why my rating became a 4 instead of a 5.
Don’t get me wrong, I really did enjoy this book. I loved the story and I loved all the characters – Hanna’s Great Grandmother, Miss Mildred melted my heart. Her humor and wise words were scene stealing……………
“If you’re the kind of woman who can withstand the blaze of hellfire he’s got burning inside, he battles that and wins, you will know nothing for the rest of your life, no taste, no experience, not even the birth of your children that will be sweeter than the love he’ll have for you” Miss Mildred
…..yup, this woman will steal your heart, I guarantee it. Her altercations were a crack up.
“We gonna get breakfast or we gonna have a smackdown in pew three?” Raiden asked, sounding amused.
A special mention has to go out to Spot the cat, because somehow Kristen took this cantankerous feline and turned him into an important character in the book. This grouchy huge kitty cat had me in fits.
And now comes the but………….This book is part of the Unfinished Hero series and as such I expected Raid to have a shady past, or to be part of some shady goings on, but Raid was a good guy. I couldn’t find anything “unfinished” about him….he was more “hero” than unfinished here. He was alpha, possessive and oh so sweet. Whilst the chemistry between Raid and Hannah was hot and the sex scenes were steamy, I kind of expected more. I guess I expected something naughtier, grittier I in keeping with the theme of the series.
Don’t get me wrong. I loved this book and if this was part of The Colorado Mountain Series, it would have been a 5 star, without a doubt. But as this was part of The Unfinished Hero series, I have to take that into account and this one just didn’t have the elements I expected as part of that series. I felt the theme of the Unfinished Hero wasn’t explored. What about you GG?
Gitte: Yeah I have to agree Jenny; Raid was not really an “Unfinished Hero”, he was a good guy; an admirable hero with no real shady past. Don’t get me wrong I loved the story and I loved Raid & Hanna and Hanna’s Great Grandmother, she was wicked, but in my personal opinion it was released in the wrong series. This series is supposed to be gritty, raw and erotic like Knight and Creed and Raid just wasn’t. I have to rate it as part of that series and it failed to live up to the theme in my opinion. That is why this story is a 4 star for me not a 5 star, and as you said if it had been released in The Colorado Mountain or The Burg Series it would have been a 5 star for sure. I have to be honest and despite the fact that it hurts my heart to say it, I was disappointed. However, I loved it for what it was; a gorgeous warm, funny and sexy KA story and yeah I totally got my fix!
