WITH YOU & TORN FROM YOU (Tear Asunder #0.5/#1) by NASHODA ROSE

with you

Sculpt is an illegal fighter.

He’s also the lead singer of a local rock band.

No one knows his real name.

And from the moment I met him, he made me forget mine.

In order to convince Sculpt to give me self-defense lessons, I had to follow his one rule—no complaining or he’d walk. I didn’t think it would be a problem. I could handle a few bruises. What I hadn’t anticipated was landing on my back with Sculpt on top of me and my entire body burning up for him.

I tried to ignore it.

I failed of course. And having a hot, tattooed badass on top of me week after week, acting completely immune to what he was doing to my body—it was frustrating as hell, so I broke his rule—I complained.

Then he kissed me.

Author’s Note: This novella is Sculpt and Emily’s beginning and how they met. It is an extra and not required to be read before “Torn from You”. Their story and what happens to them is the novel “Torn from You”.

*Warning* Huge cliff-hanger. Like huge! But “With You” and “Torn from You” are released on the same day.*

torn from you

Love is like an avalanche. It hits hard, fast and without mercy.

At least it did for me when Sculpt, the lead singer of the rock band Tear Asunder knocked me off my feet. Literally, because he’s also a fighter, illegally of course, and he taught me how to fight. He also taught me how to love and I fell hard for him. I mean the guy could do sweet, when he wasn’t doing bossy, and I like sweet.

Then it all shattered.

I was alone and fighting to survive.
When I heard Sculpt’s voice, I thought he was there to save me.

I was wrong.

(It is highly recommended to read “With You” the novella first).

*Warning: This book contains some disturbing situations, strong language and sexual content. Over 18 years.

This is a love story with some dark elements. Dark contemporary romance. No cliffhanger and next in the Tear Asunder series is Ream’s story (the band’s lead guitarist).

G&J:  4.5 Stars

Gitte: So, we have to stress, read With You first. It sets the scene for Torn from You and we get to experience Sculpt and Emily’s beginnings. This is extremely important in our opinion as it helps inspire the mystery and intrigue as well as establish the connection between the reader and the characters. Oh and the cliff-hanger in With you is a complete WTF moment for sure, it comes out of no-where!! At least you don’t have to wait, you can dive straight into Torn from You!!

‘…everything inside me was screaming to get out.’

I have to say I read these two books in one sitting, I could NOT put them down. Frankly, they were spellbinding as one twist after another was thrown at us, some horrific, some so violent and degrading I felt sick to my stomach. It was a surprising, intense, passionate and tear jerking read that’s for sure.

“Eme, us…We’re only broken when we’re apart.”

I thought the writing was brilliant and I loved all the characters. It really had me second guessing everything. Oh and it was extremely sexy too…like extremely!!! I mean Sculpt…what can I say….

“Damn, he’s totally fuckable. Like slam you against the wall fuckable.”

I’ll leave Sculpt our HOT, enigmatic and intense underground fighter/rock star to you Jenny, I know you fell for him just as hard as I did.

“You, Emily. You’re worth fighting for. I fought all my life, but never for anything worthwhile. Now… Now I’m fighting for my heart. Bullshit ends here and now.”

Though at times I wanted to kick him in the shins, I have to say!!!

“I’m scared.”

“You should be.”

Jenny:  Oh I couldn’t agree more Gitte. To me it’s a necessity to read With You first. You capture so much of the story and feelings behind Sculpt and Emily’s story and it makes the events of Torn From You that much more shocking and I would definitely advise readers to read in series order.

With You was the perfect introduction to Sculpt and Emily and wow! Yeah…Sculpt was that brooding, hot rock star….and underground fights…be still our hearts! You’re right Gitte, I fell just as hard you. Loved him and loved watching the relationship between Emily and Sculpt develop.

“Eme, you’re something sweet, and I want sweet. Wanted it for a while now.” – Sculpt

‘Damn it, kiss me, I screamed. Bad, wrong, or whatever, I wanted him to kiss me.’ – Eme

“I kiss you Emily….there’s no going back. No other guy kisses you, touches you, or gets to taste what’s mine.” – Sculpt

Argghhh Love those alpha guys!!!  It didn’t feel rushed and I was able to absorb, enjoy and struggle through every minute with them.

Gitte: So, Emily, well I loved her as our heroine. She started off as very insecure, naive and vulnerable, yet honest and forward too. She intrigued me because I knew there was something more to her as every so often you’d get a hint of feisty from her. Her innocence was endearing especially as she just didn’t have a clue about a lot of things. Our Eme was a pretty quick learner though and matured and grew as the story progressed, forced by circumstance.

‘I recognised nothing of the man I had fallen in love with.’

Now, our Eme meets Sculpt and asks him to teach her to fight and be strong. Little does she know just how much she’s going to need that! She not only lands the hot, sexy fighter/rockstar Sculpt, she also lands a whole lot of violent trouble.

“I can’t erase you. I tried but I can’t.”

“You can’t erase what’s engraved.”

I have to say, I did NOT see a lot of those twists coming which centres round Emily. Bloody hell my heart hurt for her.

“Scuplt, I’m different now.”

He moved in close, arm snug around her waist. “Yeah. You’re stronger, sexier, and have an attitude. Makes me want you more.”

 “Dream sweet, Emily.”

Jenny: I was completely enamoured with Emily and I loved this honesty and straightforwardness of her. She had issues and scars from her childhood and both Sculpt and Eme were so damaged in their own was but Eme was refreshing and sweet and the trouble she lands herself in was all the more upsetting because of my feelings for her. Though yes, underneath there was a girl with plenty of spirit!

‘Being scared and excited does something to your body.’

I didn’t see anything coming. I was completely and utterly gobsmacked! I think I shouted WTF about a dozen times at my Kindle. My heart was in my mouth and I constantly read Torn From You with a horrid sense of foreboding constantly following me.

‘Nightmares couldn’t’ compare to this……’

I am so mindful not to give anything away in this story because it was the surprise and shocks in Torn From You that had me riveted and not being able to leave my Kindle for a second in fear I would miss something.

The excitement, the thrill, the hope, the foreboding all made for such a spellbound, breathless and enthralling read for me. I was transfixed on this story from start to finish. Expect the unexpected is all I can say! I was compelling reading for me and the underlying love story between Sculpt and Eme was emotive and potent.

“Some things can’t be repaired. You break them bad enough, they can’t be fixed.” – Eme

That the author could turn me around and have my feelings constantly doing 360 turns was well played indeed.

“Damn it, you tore my fucking heart out.” – Sculpt

There were times I was feeling revulsion, hate and love towards Sculpt. This man undeniably toyed with my emotion that’s for sure! The only reason these books weren’t 5 stars for me was due to a couple of plot holes which were inconclusive, but they definitely didn’t hinder my overall enjoyment of the story.

“You wrecked me.”

Haven Antonelli and Carmine DeMarco have been through a lot. Haven was taken in by Carmine’s father, and with his family’s help, she escaped a gruesome fate. However, saving Haven from the dark intentions of a mafia family cost Carmine a steep price: he was forced to swear loyalty to them.

Now, still passionately in love, Carmine and Haven must face the fall-out of Carmine’s forced service, as Haven discovers terrifying secrets about the family that enslaved both her and her mother—and why she matters so much in this intricate web of lies.

Honestly? What can I say about Sempre: Redemption without spoiling this series other than, it was bloody brilliant and is an absolute must read! Go add it now!!

” Ascoltare il tuo cuore. Listen to your heart.”

Sempre book #1 was one of my favourite reads in 2012 and Sempre: Redemption will be one of my favourite reads of 2013. I can’t express enough how much I love this series. It’s different, horrific, hopeful, thrilling, passionate and romantic. All the characters in this series are pure class and so well written, you fall in love with them all…well….. Almost!

“Death has a way of changing people…When faced with our own mortality, we tend to start seeing the world differently.”

It’s EPIC!

Haven and Carmine’s love story continues and evolves beautifully in book #2, heart-breakingly and addictively and perhaps not how you would assume. I just couldn’t put it down and read it straight through the night. I will say though, that this time round it wasn’t only theirs that had me in tears! And to be honest? I still burst into tears now just thinking about it. The determination, the sacrifices, the love, the honour, the betrayal and the perseverance. This instalment is dark, but in order to resolve and for redemption to be achieved it needed to be. It had to be this way.

J.M Darhower is an amazing Author, I’m not sure how to explain her writing other than you literally don’t even realise you’re reading. You’re actually experiencing. The writing is flawless, effortless, and visually descriptive; it evokes every emotion you can experience. You will love, hate, despair, cry, laugh, and swoon. The small hairs on the back of your neck will stand to attention and your heart will beat out of your chest. You will feel frustrated, pissed off and curse this Author, well I did, but as it all comes together and your eyes and heart is opened even further you will just quite simply cry. Or tear up if you’re not as soppy as me.

The journey we go on is one of severe obstacles, growth, peace and revelations. I fell in love with Carmine in book #1 because his heart was pure gold. That still being so, he faces a real challenge and is tested beyond boundaries.

‘He was Carmine Marcello DeMarco…and even broken, he was beautiful.’

Carmine wanted to be different, he wanted to make a change, so to see him struggle and go the path of his family; well it broke my heart. I completely got it though. He sacrificed himself for the love of his life.  By him making the choice he did; in his mind, he saved Haven and gave her the opportunity and the life he believes she deserves. Is he right, well that’s debatable but how can you condemn his actions when they come from a pure good place?

‘This boy-this stubborn, selfless, stupid boy-had given himself to the mafia. He had handed control of his future over to the men, they hated most in exchange for her life. For her safety…’

As for Haven, this girl has such strength yet her vulnerability is immense.  She is given the opportunity to ‘fly’ and experience life. Her identity stamped firmly and clearly. Though decisions are forced upon her, how can she not grab life with both hands and carve her presence in it?! The innocence,  the fear and sense of loss the reader experiences with Haven getting her freedom is addictive and hopeful, though the heart knows what the heart wants and that is ultimately what you stay true to and the mark you want to leave in life. Also, freedom is relative and have a multiple definitions.

“You’re finally safe. You’re finally free.”

“Am I?” “Am I safe? Am I free?”

Now, as for Vincent De Marco and the ultimate mafia bad arse Corrado (love this man!!). The part they played, their stories….not only was my heart flying, it pounded…it broke and it melted. Hard men to the core, you have to see the double meaning in every word uttered and you get it and you fall in love all over again. One scene….seriously….one scene had my pulse racing, my hands clammy gripping my kindle, my nerves were shot and the floodgates opened. Why???? I get it, I really do but bloody hell…..why???????

“We all live through the same Hell, just with different devils.” “Our devil doesn’t give the benefit of the doubt. Our devil shoots first and asks questions later, if at all.”

I’m scared to say more, but I want you to pick this series up and go in blind, experience a beautifully written fucked up world of violence, families at war, slavery, deception, and loyalty but ultimately a world of love, hope and dreams.

In a sea of predictability be ready to be surprised!!

“Goodnight, my hummingbird…I’ll keep you in my dreams.”

Gitte: What an emotional tearjerker of a read this was. I think I sat with a huge lump in my throat the whole time reading. The writing was truly beautiful and the story which shows the past as well as the present was so raw and gripping my heart was so full of cracks by the time I’d finished. The agony, the tragedy, the horror, the loss, the hope and the love was extreme and intense yet handled with such care, attention and realism that I felt every word and everything the characters went through. Human behaviour and consequences are never black and white, decidedly right or wrong neither are decisions taken lightly or made rationally at all times. Love is never easy nor is it ever forgotten. Love is painful and it bloody hurts. This story was so well developed, as were the characters that I fully connected and it was as if I was experiencing this as it was playing out.

‘Dear Emily,

…….Please don’t hate me.

Please don’t think that you weren’t wanted.

Please don’t hate me.

All I can really say is that ‘Dear Emily’ is one of those stories that should be on everyone’s to read list right Jenny?

JennyYou’re spot on Gitte. This is definitely one of those books you want to implore everyone to read because it had such a profound effect on me also.

It was poignant, real, moving and so terribly heart-breaking, yet with moments of sheer joy as the story of these two damaged women who forged a bond through a gesture of selflessness and pain on one side and hope and joy on the other had their past and present told with such love, tenderness, empathy and sensitivity that it almost felt as if I was reading someone’s personal journal, as if I was sharing the pain, loss and journey with the characters first hand like you Gitte.

‘For the first time in months, my best friends and Kyle surround me, and I feel ok. Actually, better than ok. I feel wonderful, protected, and loved.’ – Carly

Dear Emily was sincere, moving and resonated with me with such in depth and realistic characterization. It was a beautifully written story of love, loss and sacrifice and was detailed with aching.  Dear Emily told the story of two women who had suffered unthinkable tragedies that would ultimately bring them together. Heartrending, painful, real and unforgettable.

Gitte: We follow Tabitha and Carly; two young women whose paths meet and forever changes lives. Both have seen and experienced real pain and tragedy. Both have had to make life altering decisions. Both have been marked by trauma. I suffered and cried for them. I rejoiced at their chance of love and hope. I agonised with them in their decisions and the consequences. I despaired at whether the right was wrong or the wrong was right.

‘I’m jealous of her. Of her life. Of what she is. Of everything that I am not. I think I hate her a little.’

Tabitha, poor sweet girl, abandoned, betrayed, beaten and alone. She believes she’s broken and beyond repair yet in her extreme vulnerability she shows such strength in adversity, she shows pure heart and unselfishness. How many times in life do you get knocked down before you cease to stand back up again? How do you recognise love when it’s never existed in your life? How do you find hope and inspiration to be who you can be and who you want to be when you’ve been labelled as damaged and disturbed?

‘She is perfect. She is not me. Therefore she is perfect.’

This girl had the biggest wall to climb and I was behind her all the way hoping she would find what she truly deserved. Seth or Alex? Two men that come into her life at a crucial time and are a huge part of Tabitha’s changing path where she once again must sacrifice her love by giving the most precious gift away to another.

‘I need to take this one step at a time and learn how to be close to someone again. Learn how to trust again. Learn how to be me. I don’t even know who I am.

And then we have the sweet and innocent wronged Carly. Well, I’ll leave this amazing woman and her path to you Jenny….

Jenny:  Thanks Gitte, Carly’s story of longing, wanting and needing a child in her life touched me deeply and resonated with me. I connected with her on a personal level over her longing for a child, a family with the man she loves. I understood her and I ached and hurt with her. This woman had truly suffered emotionally and physically and bore the pain and scars of her tragic past. Carly was truly blessed to have a man like Kyle by her side. Kyle was the epitome of a book hero. This guy stood by her, comforted her, loved her and never judged or belittled her. He lifted her up when she was at her lowest and he chased away the demons from her past. He was her saviour and the love they shared could be felt deep in your soul. These were absolute soul mates and watching their relationship grow was truly mesmerising.

“I want you. I want us.”
“I love you, Carly.” – Kyle

The contrast in the letters written to Emily from Tabitha and Carly is so telling. Whilst Carly’s journal entries to Emily are filled with joy, anticipation, longing and love……

‘Dear Emily,
How do I start a letter to a child I have yet to meet?  A child that has always been in our hearts?  We have always dreamed of you, Emily….We are hoping, waiting, praying.
Love and Kisses, Momma

Tabitha’s are filled with loss, sadness and self-doubt. It really does pull at your heartstrings to read these letters. You want so much for both to find happiness, love and peace with their decisions.

The past, present and pov switches flowed perfectly and each voice lends so much to this story. The parallel storytelling was faultless and gripped me from the very first page. How could you not be dragged into this story from an opening such as the one we experienced?

Kyle and Carly had a love that stood the test of time and they had love in abundance. They have love to share with a child and I so desperately wanted their wish to come true, but for every bit of happiness I craved for Kyle and Carly, at the other end of the spectrum was Tabitha’s unhappiness….and for that reason I was torn.  I cried for Carly and I wept for Tabitha. All deserved happiness and peace.

‘Dear Emily,
‘I imagine your Daddy outside playing with you……….your giggles are making my heart race with excitement….this is your future, Emily. This is our future. We will be a forever family. My heart is bursting with Love.
Momma & Daddy’

G&J: We can honestly say that this story had a profound effect on us. As Mum’s; giving your own flesh and blood away is unimaginable. However, this is the heart-breaking decision many women have to face for a variety of reasons. Our heart bleeds for these women yet it also rejoices for the women who receive such an amazing gift.

What an astounding story this was and we applaud the Author for bringing us on a truly beautiful and heart-wrenching journey. Having the voices of both Tabitha and Carly made sure that we truly understood each perspective and the turmoil they both went through. We understood how they came to be at the point their paths met, we felt every emotion and tragedy as we experienced life with them, we cried and we smiled. We found inspiration and hope. We can’t wait for Tabitha’s story to continue. That ending!!!  What a truly breath-taking, compelling and beautifully stirring debut from Trudy Stiles.

‘I’ll find my happily ever after. It just isn’t now.’

Jenny:  Gitte, we’re such huge fans of Cherrie Lynn and this series and were eagerly awaiting the release of Gabriella Ross’s story and we have to say this one didn’t disappoint.

“You’re the phoenix rising from the ashes. I’m honoured I could be the one to let you express that.” – Ian

36 year old Gabriella’s life is turned upside down when she is forced to move home to her parents after being jilted at the alter by her ex fiancé Mark.  After picking up the pieces following such a humiliating and painful experience, Gabriella decides to move forward with her life, pursue her career of becoming a doctor and to rely only on herself.  But… has different plans for Gabriella in the form of the smoking hot, sex on legs Ian Rhodes. This young, tattooed Harley riding bad boy with a heart of gold might just put a spanner in the works in a BIG way after a one night stand ends up with complications neither expected.  This was one hot, passionate and escape inducing read wasn’t it Gitte?

Gitte: Oh wow was it ever Jenny! I absolutely love Cherrie Lynn, she can do no wrong in my eyes. Her writing is class, her characters are always completely lovable and H.O.T indeed. There’s always so much display of strength, passion and humour which makes this series such a compelling and addictive read.

“The pain is cathartic. So I’ll shut the door if you want, and you can cry, or cuss him or scream, do whatever. I’m cool with any of it. And we’ll get this done, and it’ll be this beautiful testament to some very harsh shit you went through only to come out stronger on the other side.” – Ian

I have to say this one was no exception and I really loved being back with everyone whilst getting Gabriella and Ian’s story. I fell in love with them both and… Ian…..Enough said!!!!

Jenny:  I loved Gabriella.  I loved her feistiness as much as I loved her softness and my heart went out to her time and again throughout Take Me On. Her story was told with humor, passion and love and these two were sizzling and once again Cherrie Lynn delivered in the hotness stakes!

“God, that’s hot,”…..”Seeing it. Wanting It. Knowing I can have it.” – Gabriella
“Take it, Gabriella. You can have it. You can have it whenever and however you want it. Fuck it, baby. Fuck it good. Make it yours.” – Ian

Gulp! See what we mean”?

Gabriella has the love of her sometimes overbearing but always supportive and loving family and she has the love of Ian. What I really loved apart from the relationship with Gabriella and Ian was spending more time with the other Ross family.  Watching the interactions and seeing the different perspective were shown by Evan, Brian, Candace and Kelsey.  Brian in particular cracked me up in this book and we saw such a development of his character from when we first met him in Rock Me.

“What are you, a fuckin’ vampire? You’re my guest. Enter.” – Brian

We’ve been through so much with these characters and in Take Me On we got to see them in a different light and I particularly enjoyed that aspect of this story.  Ian Rhodes!! Dear lord. Was this guy gorgeous! Cherrie never fails to deliver us another book boyfriend does she Gitte and Ian was no exception!

Gitte: She sure doesn’t Jenny. I fell in complete lust and love with Ian. He hasn’t had it easy but his heart is pure gold and well….he’s pretty good at dirty talking too!!

“I’d love to take you home and fuck you senseless, if that’s what you’re after.” – Ian

The journey this gorgeous man took Gabriella on was enticing, sweet and wow so passionate. And I agree Jenny. The heavy presence of Evan, Brian, Candace and Kelsey made it so much more than it could have been. The friendships, family ties and honest and basic love was brilliant to experience. I laugh and swooned all the way through. Though I wouldn’t mind having a few stern words with Mr. & Mrs. Ross!!!

Yeah, so as I mentioned earlier, I especially loved Gabriella. She was an older heroine and they are few and far between at the moment and I loved that, so refreshing. Especially considering Ian is a good few years younger than her. She’s a bit of a perfectionist set on achieving goals and being responsible. Though, you can’t force a life that needs the spontaneity and the passion too in order to get the most out of living.  Gabriella needs to feel, she needs excitement and to ‘let her hair get messed up’. She needs to proper live again. Though trust Brian to explain it so bloke-ishly:

“She’s kind of going through this….thing. I think it’s an early midlife crisis.” – Brian

J&G:  Take On Me was another great addition to the Ross Siblings series and it’s a series we never tire of reading. We’re always excited when a new book is in the works because we know we’ll be treated to a sexy, fun and romantic read with characters that will steal our hearts and have us fanning ourselves in equal measures.

The Ross family are a strong and overbearing bunch but they all love deeply and share a loyalty beyond reproach and it’s portrayed so beautifully in this book.

‘Gabby looked around at her family with absolute love and happiness. They got on her nerves. They pissed her off. But damn if they didn’t rally when one of them was threatened or in trouble…..’

Another winner from Cherrie Lynn. We loved it. We lived it and we couldn’t put it down.

So I’m the lucky one…I managed to stay away from spoiler reviews and everything pertaining to Night Owl, I went in blind and wow am I happy I did! Now, what can I say without spoiling this book other than if you’re looking for a brilliantly well written story that will eat you up whole, devour you, then spit you out a mangled hot emotional mess; then Night Owl is the one for you. It’s the story you’ll love to hate or hate to love even. In my case, I bloody loved it. It had an abundance of the bizarre and the eccentric yet that made it all the more fantastically addictive and fabulous. It was dirty and filthy but I have to say, originally so, which meant at no stage did I think oh yeah I’ve read this before, the passion was off the charts because it was daring, evocative and imaginative. The words alone can bring you to near combustion and the characters are not always even in the same room when they’re uttered.

‘I’m about to hear his voice. I don’t even know this guy. What the hell am I doing? He could be a psycho stalker. We shouldn’t cross this line…’

So yeah, the characters…full of intrigue, mystery and with great development. They get under your skin and I felt like, absolutely I can see how this could happen, how easy this relates to the age we live in today with the easy access to anyone and everyone, this could have been me, you, your friend….anyone!

How this story begins, well the situation at the crux of it, is one all you readers, and I include myself here, could have been a privy to or even a part of. Quite frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me if this has happened to someone we know. The six degrees of separation and all. The way the premise is written is weirdly over the top, but then so is many things in life, making it entirely possible that this could happen.

I think this Author played the game very well and I have to give M. Pierce a standing ovation for ingenuity and originality. Well played!

We have two authors writing in collaboration; Matt and Hannah. We have one stipulation: no personal details or identification. I loved how this story began and I loved how it evolved and I loved the mystery of the ending. It was bloody brilliant. It had a gripping dark and angsty story wrapped up in a red hot erotic bow.

‘So it was possible to love a stranger.’

An accidental omission sets off a journey that is so emotional, so passionate, so erotic and so enthralling I gripped my kindle wanting to see how it turned out, yet also wanting that mystery and unknown to continue at the same time.

“Greedy little bird, aren’t you?” – Matt

Yes, yes Matt I really am!!!!

I almost read this story in one sitting, and would have done if not for the small matter of sleep, foregoing a night out with the girls because I was riveted. Also I was ugly crying and kept having to pop ice cubes to cool me down; I was in no state to leave the house.

Now, Matt, I don’t even know where to begin with him, I mean he has a pet rabbit which he takes for walkies on a lead! However, I will start with: he’s MINE okay!!!! What a complex, beautiful, sad gorgeous man he is. And don’t get me started on his dirty talking filth factor, actually let’s go there….it’s HOT….he’s HOT and you will pass out in an exhausted mess on the floor. Don’t like the sound of the picture I just painted? Well I dare you to go read for yourself and come back and tell me that didn’t happen to you too!!

‘Matt’s smirks came in flavors – two parts kindness, one part wicked amusement, a little lust in the mix. Oh, and one hundred percent smug bastard.’

But this is not what Matt is all about. It’s a fraction of him, a consequence of a life so tragic and emotional that I wanted to march on inside my kindle and pull him into my arms.

“Beautiful man. I wish you could see yourself. You look lost.”

“I feel lost..”

So, can you spell secrets? Well it’s spelt M.A.T.T!! This man had enough to sink a ship and they were all wrapped up in lies. Matt is neurotic, he’s a complete cock, he’s confident yet vulnerable. He’s an endearing arse and I fell in complete love with him, if you met Matt in real life you’d stay well clear wouldn’t you? Hmmmm…..I’ll get back to you on that one.

‘But there is no such thing as loneliness. There is only the idea of loneliness.’

I think I’ll be hard pressed (pun intended) to find another dirty talker like Matt, this man was shockingly filthy.

‘I told her that I was coming. I told her to come on my dick. I almost told her I loved her. Sex is the damndest thing.’

However, his words in general are so honest, rude, funny, intriguing and compelling that he literally became one of my favourite male characters.

‘I had to fight. I knew she wanted me to fight. I would have wanted her to fight for me.’ – Matt

“He feels pain like no one I have ever known, and always has. He’s such an emotional creature.”

As for Hannah, she was a great heroine; she was bright and honest, sweet and vulnerable, fierce and protective. I guess you could say she knew what she wanted and she didn’t hide it. She had real strength and made no excuses.  Seriously, can you be jealous of a book character, hell yeah you can and that was me. But I was rooting for our Hannah because it was clear that we were experiencing the meeting of soul mates who each gave to the other what they knowingly or unknowingly needed.

‘I bound my broken, beautiful Matt, so sad and silent. I unbound my tiger.’

Sometimes you can analyse a story till you go stir crazy, sometimes you can look for that elusive hidden meaning and think you’ve got it. Sometimes you just have to let it all go and let a book swallow you and not the other way round. Sometimes you just have to escape through laughter and tears.

“…sad things seem truest to me.”

“Truest? Happiness isn’t true?”

This, this is just what Night Owl did to me and I am gagging for the next book in this trilogy! I wanted it the second I finished Night Owl. So, if you haven’t read it yet I can highly recommend adding it right now!
