THE LAST GOOD KNIGHT SERIAL NOVELLA SERIES by TIFFANY REISZ

The Last Good Knight

Complete Novella Series reviewed by Gitte

Gitte: 5 *I love Nora* Stars

I have an irrefutable love for Tiffany Reisz, it’s bound and locked in my heart and never wavers though it grows for every book she releases into my eagerly awaiting hands. Honestly, there’s no question that she is one of my all-time favourite Authors and the second I start reading a new book it feels like coming home or visiting with loved ones albeit kinky ones.

“You’re like a queen. You’re strong and fearless. Men serve you. They want to serve you. Hell, they should serve you. You don’t answer to anybody. You don’t apologize to anyone…”

I am in complete love with every single character Tiffany Reisz pens, a love that started years ago yet grows stronger as each has become a life-time friend to me. Yes, a few inspire a love-hate relationship, but ultimately every single one has a place in my heart and feel part of my reading life. I can never have or experience enough, of and with everyone, no matter how long or short a time we spend together.

“No man in his right mind would spurn your love and loyalty.”

Tiffany Reisz writes with intelligence, boundless knowledge and incredible humour and passion. It’s always flawless and quite simply perfection. Dipping in and out of Nora’s life in and around the Original Sinners series is quite simply one of the most satisfying things there is for a reader who has an unwavering love for a mistress who’s brave but vulnerable, feisty yet fair, passionate and sarcastically witty. Also, any time the magnificently commanding Søren enters a scene I read with a pounding heart and categorically melt into a submissive puddle on the floor. Søren; du er stjernerne i min Himmel!!!

“We hurt each other….It’s what we do. Hurt me. Trust that I can take it as well as I give it.”

This series plays out three years prior to The Siren, so please, if you haven’t yet read The Original Sinners series go pick it up, read it and be awed by the beauty of Tiffany Reisz. You truly won’t regret it! If you have indeed had the extreme pleasure of the Sinners you will relish this series! I HIGHLY recommend readers to read Tiffany Reisz’ books in the order she intended and I promise you will fall in love and experience a myriad of intense emotions with added passion and laughter.

So, The Last Good Knight comes in five serials which I devoured one after the other unable to put them down. We begin with Nora meeting Lance at the 8th Circle on her thirtieth birthday. A session interrupted spurs a journey that sees danger, heartbreak and profound loss. This visit with Nora was really quite emotional and I cried on and off, especially when we hit the crescendo of this trip down memory lane.  So many elements of this series are not only poignant but quite thought provoking and incites so many emotions amongst the kink and funny laugh out loud banter and one-liners. There was no surprise to me that I fell in love with Lance, yet another brilliantly written character and I’m with Nora on this one….She truly showed her glorious and wonderful heart! I loved every single moment of this journey back to when, before it was……

“Sometimes we win the game… Sometimes we lose.”

Jenny: 4  Stars

I love this series. What’s not to love? Fierce, gorgeous, Hockey heartthrobs, fun camaraderie and banter between the players, mix it up with a good dose of heat, heart, great characters and heart-warming, swoony romance…..and …like I said, what’s not to love?

It would take a very special woman indeed to pin down playboy Luke Hudson, and when Luke sent down to a Minor League team to train and recuperate from a knee injury sustained during a game, little did he know he would gain so much more than just a chance to get back in shape and re-join his team in the major leagues, he may even lose his heart in the process.

“But love is more than a word. It’s the action we take every day. Just like I’ll be faithful to you. I have to stand up for you. I won’t be able to sleep if I don’t. – Luke

Team Trainer Adella Price may just be that woman, but Dell has put her life on hold for the last 5 years to singlehandedly raise up her gorgeous son Kyler, with the help of her sassy and good friend Sadie that is, and any man wanting to steal Dell’s heart would have to steal Kyler’s as well. I loved Dell. She was such a beautiful, warm character and it’s easy to see why Luke was smitten with her.

“Help me…I’ve never done this.”
“You’re doing amazing.”

I  enjoyed watching Luke and Dell’s relationship develop at a steady pace and despite the intense passion and chemistry between them, it never felt rushed. These two sizzled and who knew Luke was such a dirty talker….pass the fan!

Edge certainly had the heat factor, swoon factor and romance going on, but it is the warmth and development of the relationships as a whole that keeps me coming back to this series. Watching these tough as nails Hockey players break down their defences wins me over every time and  interactions between Kyler and Luke completely melted my heart.

Catching up with Ryke and Kate was like checking in on old friends and once again, the banter between Ryke and Luke was priceless. No way was Ryke going to miss an opportunity to give Luke a ribbing over his feelings.

“I’ve never, ever seen you like this over a woman. I thought you were gonna call her poopsie or some shit and rub noses with her.” – Ryke

Whilst Bound and Captive remain my favourite of the series so far, Edge didn’t disappoint.  Brenda Rothert once again served us up a Hockey themed story with plenty of passion and a good helping of swoon. Just what is it about these Hockey players? Hmm silly question!

WINTER BLUES by JADE GOODMORE

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00072]

SYNOPSIS

Winter Blues is not a story of a love beginning, but a love surviving. It’s a story of imperfections and frustrations. A story that’s rarely told but often lived. A sometimes unpretty story, but then real stories normally are…

Away from all that they know, all that brought them together, Darlene and Reid find the only troubles their marriage has ever faced in their new home of Chicago. They find a test of loyalties, of strength, of love, when all that they expected to find was their happy ever after.

Where Reid finds their new life a breeze, Darlene finds it a storm. Reid powers ahead in his new publishing job, reveling in his success while he fails at home. Darlene is jobless, friendless, and increasingly Reid-less; trapped in a perpetual winter when all she craves is the warmth she’s grown accustomed to.

She finds comfort in music that has been such a huge part of her life, eventually performing at a local bar and striking up a friendship with its owner. That friendship threatens to expand into something more when everything Darlene is lacking in their marriage is offered to her in the form of the irresistible Blue.

Will she deny the consequences and accept him? Or will Reid fight the odds and find a way to recharge their relationship?

Happy ever afters are for fairytales..

Reviewed by Jenny & Gitte ~ 3 Stars

‘Love is easy, marriage is hard, but trust? Trust is the hardest.’

Jenny:  I think I read Winter Blues through gritted teeth a lot of the time. Oh don’t get me wrong, I think the author did a splendid job of bringing Darlene and Reids story to life and she certainly put me through my paces as I experienced moments of anger, annoyance, frustration and angst aplenty where I continually found myself shouting at my Kindle for these to communicate!

“….Because I miss us”

Jade Goodmore delivered a well written story that elicited some strong emotions and tested my resolve where we meet two people experiencing difficulties in their marriage after relocating to Chicago. I felt the contempt, misery and neglect experienced by Darlene and Reid, but their actions so frustrated me and Darlene tested my every nerve. I found I couldn’t relate to her at all and I think my dislike of her affected how I felt about the story.

Gitte: Yeah, I can’t actually say I enjoyed reading this story all that much, such was the strength of my emotions and frustrations. Don’t get me wrong, it was very well written, the emotional aspects were brilliant and I just could not put it down.

‘To feel loved is the richest feeling in the world, but when that love is taken away it takes much more than it ever gave.’

However, I really didn’t like the heroine Darlene at all. I was pretty pissed off whilst reading this story from beginning till end, I have to say. Now, this is not because I have a problem with the subject nor the consequence of a troublesome neglected marriage. No, Darlene’s behaviour was incredibly defeatist, selfish and quite frankly childish at times. That coupled with Reid’s non-communicative ways it was a recipe for marital disaster really. Though, I will say that Reid was a brilliantly written character despite his inability to communicate. So, it was a real shame the heroine was so unlikeable as she quite frankly just gave up at the first marital hurdle, enjoyed a side-order of infidelity then passed the blame when confronted by the truth.

‘…love is tainted with the hurt…’

Saying this, I do actually have to give Jade Goodmore props because I just couldn’t put this book down, I had to read on till the end to see what happened next! This is one of those times where I’m conflicted as to whether a book is really good because of how strong my emotions were from the brilliant writing or whether it just wasn’t for me because of my intense dislike for the heroine? I honestly don’t know, Jenny!

Jenny: It was evident from the outset that despite being in a rut and despite the hurt, impatience and condescending tones they took with one another, Darlene and Reid were in love. But a marriage without nurturing and attention will most certainly suffer the consequences.

“We’re falling in love again.” “I already love you.” “Not enough.”

Whilst I understood and initially (and I say initially because that soon waned) and sympathised with Darlene’s feelings of despair and loneliness that soon changed as her decisions became calculated and selfish. Instead of working through their problems, she chose to do what was best for her as opposed what was best for their marriage and she grated on my every nerve and I disliked her immensely!

‘I’ve mentally put the space between us and I want to fun back. I will do anything but it feels impossible, because I don’t belong here.’

My sympathies did lie with Reid through Winter Blues, but towards the end, I felt his stance and the way he went about repairing their marriage only exacerbated the situation.

“I’m going to show you every day, in one way or the other, that I love you.”

Like you Gitte, my feelings for Winter Blues are conflicted. This was definitely a well written story that I couldn’t put down, but I too feel my enjoyment of the story was hindered by my dislike of the heroine. Fans of love triangles, who love their stories with plenty of angst in their stories will enjoy this one.

WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME by DANIELLE TAYLOR

where the streets have no name

Where the streets have no name collage

Reviewed by Jenny & Gitte: 4.5 Beautiful Stars

Gitte: I’ve got to say I really enjoyed this story; it was an epic journey considering Daniel’s past and with the focus on just two people in such a ‘close space’, well, it was pure brilliance in its simplicity. Because of this singular focus the writing was laid bare and had to be flawless. It was and it showed class and evoked incredible feelings in me. Every step felt real and I love Danielle Taylor’s writing.

“My heart hurts…Please don’t break my heart.”

The journey we take with Amelia and Daniel was intensely emotional, passionate and so very tragic. It beautiful and unique. For me, this was a journey of two lost souls, complete strangers, which find and inspire what they each need and desire. It’s a true case of finding love under the most surprising circumstance, listening to your instinct and seeing beyond a façade. Finding vindication and justice.

I loved Amelia, what a refreshing heroine she was. Intelligent, brave and honourable; she took a chance, she showed compassion and was quite inspirational as a human being. As for Daniel, he was an amazing man. Wronged in the most tragic of ways, having had fifteen years of his life stolen. His past and family lost to him in a brutal manner. The injustice in this story was profound and broke my heart. I fell in love with this extraordinary man.

‘All he’d ever wanted was a place where the streets have no name. To call the shots in his own life. To make decisions like he had all the time in the world to make them.’

Danielle Taylor wrote such an emotional story, but it had real heat and passion too. Daniel and Amelia’s connection was believable, I felt their friendship, their attraction, the protectiveness each felt for the other.

Where the Streets Have No Name was exceedingly beautiful in its simplicity and had none of that unnecessary angst or plethora of drama and miscommunications I so often find in books these days. I didn’t want to put it down as I hoped Daniel would somehow get the justice he so deserved. His story made us cry didn’t it, Jenny?!

Jenny:  Gitte, who knew taking a random book read pick from our Kindles would have us uncovering a real gem and a truly memorable read.  I adored this book from start to finish. It wasn’t overly angsty, was beautifully told and was exactly what I needed at the time.

‘Beautiful’ is the word that springs to mind when I think about this book. Be it the beauty in the setting, the beauty of the characters right through to the exquisite beauty and emotion of Danielle Taylor’s storytelling.  And yes G, there were certainly some tears shed along with a lot of clutching of the heart

‘…….but he’d take a lifetime of kisses over just the memory of a kiss.’

Amelia was such a unique, honest, sincere and sharp character, full of compassion who never once stood in judgement of Daniel, preferring instead to trust the man presented in front of her.

Daniel. So broken, so lost so in need of someone to believe in him. This man bore scars and a guilt that were not his to bear. Ostracised and suffering tragedy that was not his to bear, this man owned my heart.

“You make me feel like I’m important…….like I matter.”

Danielle Taylor certainly brought us a thought provoking story about a chance meeting between two people unsure of themselves, each other and the direction of their lives. She showed us that by taking a chance on someone, to believe in that person is the greatest gift we can give. Just beautiful.

4.5 Star Series overall rating

“Time….I just need time.”

Well, what can we say other than bloody hell, we weren’t mentally prepared for this series! Picking up book one we didn’t leave our reading chair till we’d flown through every instalment available, it was impossible, it was unavoidable.

‘I should feel justified. Instead I feel vacant.’

The Dirty series was harrowing, it was heart-breaking and it was incredibly intense and addictive. Fortunately we only had to wait one day for the fifth and final book and we devoured it the second we saw it was live.

‘This agony is consuming me. I’ve lost everything. I have nothing. Nothing to live for. Nothing to fight for.’

We can’t and won’t say anything that may spoil this story, it would be an injustice to the Author, YOU the reader as well as to the characters Link and Rocky. Both characters clawed their way into our hearts with their dramatic and vengeful story. We left them with a heavy breath, an exhausted emotional mind and a bleeding heart. But truly we aren’t ready to leave them, not really. Not at all, such is the impression they left on our souls.

Do you believe in an eye for an eye? Do you believe in karma? Do you believe in vengeance spurred on by love? Do you believe in love as a saviour?

‘She’s always here…’

The Dirty series will have you questioning everyone and everything. It will shock you, make you weep uncontrollably, make you crave justice and vindication. It will make you fall in love with love as a saviour. It will make you fall in love with a broken yet inspirational man named Link and a damaged yet incredibly strong girl named Rocky.

This series is a MUST read. Cheryl McIntyre manages to convey every emotion possible, write characters with such depth and connection as well as give the reader an intensely powerful story. This, in short is a hard hitting powerful serial that would rival any full sized novel or series! It was bloody brilliant and we are in awe! This Author nailed it!

‘Maybe it’s just him. His strength. His pain. His passion. His ferocity. His protectiveness.’

Since reading we have read that a final novella/epilogue is in the works which is the only thing we thought was missing for us to feel fully satisfied. We just wanted that final important step to ease and mend our bleeding hearts and to feel ready to leave Link and Rocky.

“Scars like that are universal. We earn them differently, we wear them differently, but we all carry them the same.”
