“Mr. & Mrs. Smith meets the Sopranos…”
To the outside world, they look like American Royalty, giving to charities, feeding the homeless, rebuilding the city. But behind closed doors is a constant battle for dominance between two Bosses, cultures, and hearts.
Ruthless People is a romantic crime fiction set in modern day Chicago, and follows the life and marriage of Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan—rivals by blood and leaders through fear. Their marriage, arranged by their fathers in hopes to end years of bloodshed between the Irish and the Italians.
Liam believes he’s getting a simple-minded wife, one he can control, one who bends to his every need . . . the complete opposite of Melody. She knows exactly what type of man he is, and would rather die than give up the power she has spent her life building.
The Mafia of the past has evolved, and with rival bosses gunning for them, Melody and Liam will have to learn to work as one to take down those who stand in their way.
1 Marriage x 2 Bosses = 3x the Chaos

Theses are not mobsters with a heart of gold….
They do VERY bad things and will NOT change.
They are criminals…murderers.
If things like that bother you Ruthless People is not for you. You’ve been warned 😉

He pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue!
Jenny: Bravo J J McAvoy! Your refreshingly different, excitingly unpredictable, totally kick arse and unapologetically fucked up world of the Callahans/Givovanni’s was unputdownable! I’m left me completely addicted and pondering what the hell to pick up next. You’ve left me needing my next ruthless fix RIGHT NOW!!!
“My parents made it work, and we turned out fine.” Liam
“You’re a sex-crazed, closet smoker, who sells dope, crack, and smack for a living.” Mel
“Like I said, I turned out fine.” Liam
Ruthless People was well paced, the POV’s timely executed, the action and drama had my heart thumping in places, the scorching torrid and passionate sexual chemistry between Mel and Liam had me fanning myself and I even managed shed a tear or two. Ruthless People was so wrong but oh so right for me. For Melody and Liam bloodlust, death, violence and power is their drug of choice and their aphrodisiac…and the sex is mind blowing, the power struggle unrelenting…a relationship can be built from that right???
“….I want you by my side and no one else’s. I want I want you to help me take down every fucker who stands in the way of a Callahan.’
Well, it sure is mouth-wateringly entertaining isn’t it Gitte?
Gitte: Well Jenny, I shouldn’t have loved this book nor its characters. I shouldn’t have laughed, swooned or cried over and for them. Not really. But I did. I bloody loved EVERY SINGLE fucked up graphically disturbing and passionate element of this book. So much so, I’m struggling to pick anything else up. The merging of two mafia families, the eroticism, the dramatics and blood thirst. The element of the ultimate power and control. Wow…..simply….wow!!! This is no ordinary romance; this is a mafia romance on crack with a soundtrack of firing guns.
“..the wench shot me. She fucking shot me. I’d been so shocked and horny that my mind couldn’t even compute what had happened.”
This felt original; it was disturbingly riveting and passionate and the characters were unlike any I’ve read in a while. The story was brilliant, the writing superb, the multiple POV’s and their placements were accomplished and so well thought out. Also the emotion, passion and full on drama was spot on.
“No matter how many times we fuck Callahan, I will never bow down to you. I will never let you rule me. I will not be your bitch to screw and command.”
Ruthless People is not a book I think I can easily forget and I want more now. The sequel is without doubt one of my most anticipated reads right now!!! I do have a feeling though that Ruthless People could turn into a bit of a marmite book for readers. There’s no unicorns, butterflies or rainbows in this romance, that’s for sure!
Jenny: Is breá liom tú Liam Callahan. I am in love with this deadly and delectably sexy as sin man who had me hanging off his every depraved word. The author gave us a cold, calculated killer but she also showed us so much of Liam’s vulnerability which only served to make me love him even more. I loved seeing the many sides of Liam and this man had the ability to bring me to my knees.
‘We were going to break each other, and it only made me more excited.’ Liam
Si kick ass Melody Callahan/Giovanni. Melody was a brilliant character. This power hungry woman possessed a strength and determination that never wavered. At first I worried that I would dislike Melody because of her uncompromising ways, especially given the vulnerability we saw in Liam but I how wrong I was! As I came to know more about Melody I liked her and her fucked up ways more and more. She was a ballbreaker alright, but what a perfect match she was for a man like Liam Callahan.
‘My wife was a ruthless animal, and it only made her sexier.’
Gitte: Melody; what a heroine! I doubt there’s many out there like her. She scared the shit out of me. Did I connect to her character? Nope, it would have freaked me out if I had! Did I like her character; hell yes, she’s a woman in a man’s world and what a hard-arsed, disturbingly cunning and sexy bitch she is! If I met her in real life I’d roll over and play dead!
‘She was a ruthless savage, and if you cannot break a ruthless savage, you need to figure out how to tame them.’
As for Liam; yes please! He’s an arrogant cock with a gun, but he’s extremely smooth, sexy and addictive. This Irish monster of a man made me laugh, shiver as well as cry. He’s got a charming vulnerability hidden under that violent and brutal façade and behaviour. Liam is one hell of a smooth talker…..right?!
“We put a bullet in each one of their heads and then fuck in their bed.”
Both Melody and Liam are what they are; killers, but can be mistaken for not having a heart; not being able to feel; not wanting the honest love of another. Being nothing but, as the title suggests, violently and emotionally ruthless, thirsting for the blood of their enemies and wrong-doers.
“Melody and Liam were born on the dark side of the moon. They enjoy this life.”
Well….let them both prove you wrong….kind of in their own messed up way. I laughed with them, I cried for them, mostly for Liam I have to admit and they scared the hell out of me. These characters are a beautiful ugly fucked up mess and thank the stars they’re only fictional!
J&G: JJ McAvoy managed to bring us a story without compromising the guts of who her characters were. This had it all…twists, turns, surprises and best of all it was different and unpredictable.
“May we forever be rulers, may our enemies tremble at our feet, may we never forget our great love that is the family.”
The banter between all the characters was brilliant. We especially loved the acerbic, dry witted exchanges and internal musings of Melody and Liam which had us giggling like crazy. We devoured every single minute of this vivid, sexy, thrilling, passionate and action packed story. We NEED the next book NOW!!!!
