TIED (Tangled #4) by EMMA CHASE

In the fourth sexy romance by the New York Times bestselling author of Tangled and Twisted, Drew and Kate can’t wait to tie the knot—if they can survive the pre-wedding festivities.

For most of my life, I never imagined I’d get married. But Kate did the impossible: she changed me. I think we can all agree I was pretty frigging awesome before, but now I’m even better.

The road to this day wasn’t all rainbows and boners. There were mistakes and misunderstandings worthy of a Greek tragedy. But Kate and I made it through with our inexhaustible lust, boundless admiration, and everlasting love for one another intact.

That being said, there were some unexpected incidents in Vegas last weekend that could have been a problem. It was kind of… my final test.

I know what you’re thinking—what the hell did you do this time? Relax. Let’s not judge, or call for my castration, until you’ve heard the whole story.

And hold on tight, because you’re in for a wild ride. Did you expect anything less?

DREW’S BACK! And he’s as irreverent, as funny, as unpredictable and as politically incorrect as ever! And boy had we missed this guy and his ability to unashamedly tell it like it is.

‘And every guy has a type. One man’s hog is another man’s hottie.’

It was great to be back with the whole gang again and join in on their crazy antics as Drew and Kate prepare for their wedding which includes a Bachelor and Bachelorette party, with their friends in Las Vegas. After all, their friends want to make sure they get a worthy send off before getting hitched.

Drew still retains that naughty boyish charm that made us fall in love with him, but he’s also grown-up and changed his outlook on some things (but thankfully not all) since we first met him in Tangled. A lot has happened in Drew’s life! Being a loving father and soon to be husband has Drew matured in some ways but remains the man-child in others.

‘It’s our golden rule. Our first commandment: Don’t wake the fucking baby. I’ll repeat that in case you missed it: DON’T WAKE THE FUCKING BABY.’

Blessed with the gift of insightfulness (Drew style) he enlightens us on many things not least of all his experience with oral sex. This guy definitely needs to write an instruction manual on that subject. Women (and men) everywhere would thank you for that little nugget, sunshine!

‘I like to call it cunning linguistics. You may know it as going down. Dining at the Y. Carpet munching. Having a box lunch. ‘

Hmmm yes Drew! We get your drift and you ins and outs (no pun intended) on the mechanics of such had us riveted!

Tied did at times feel more like an extra-long epilogue to Kate and Drew’s story more than a novel but it certainly was entertaining that’s for sure. There were some truly moving moments, a lot of times we giggled hysterically but unfortunately there were a couple of times it tended to drag.

The Tied meets The Hangover  Las Vegas trip was a little underwhelming and though it gave us some laughable moments, because lets face it….letting Drew and the gang loose in Vegas was always going to have giggling and red faced moments, however this part of the story wasn’t the highlight for us and lost us a little along the way in these scenes as they became a tad tedious.

Where Tied shone for us was witnessing Drew’s interaction with James and his obvious love and enjoyment of fatherhood and his soul searing love for Kate. These two are true soul mates and it was through these scenes where we see Drew in the true moments of reflection on his life that made our hearts flip flop and left us swooning.

‘She gazes up at me – and I swear it feels like she’s seeing into my soul.’

The theme of love, friends and family, told through the eyes of one very humorous and gifted storyteller has been enjoyable that’s for sure. We’ve loved the characters and their story and although Tied didn’t give us the wow factor we had hoped, it was nice to have spent a little more time with them and we did savour the moments reuniting with them all.

ALEX (Cold Fury Hockey #1) by SAWYER BENNETT

USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett scores big-time with the first novel in a sexy new series hot enough to melt the ice.
Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.
As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

“I’m so afraid of hurting you that I think it’s safe to say my heart is definitely involved.” Alex
“So try not to hurt me. “
“I’ll try.”

I’m a sucker for Hockey themed romances so when I saw the cover and the synopsis for Alex I knew I had to add this book to my TBR immediately.

I expected to open this book and lose myself in a sexy romp with a hot hockey hunk and while, yes I did get my romp and gorgeous Hockey player, I also gained so much more from this story that I didn’t anticipate.  The first few pages drew me in immediately as the author planted me in the moment as we freeze frame Alex’s movements on the ice. I really did feel as though I was making that play right alongside Alex and applaud Sawyer Bennett for bringing me right into that moment.

The emotion of this story and the heavy issues it dealt with completely threw me and there were a few times my heart ached for Sutton. To say I was completely unprepared for the emotional aspect of Alex is an understatement.

Alex was a complete arsehole who I unashamedly loved from the outset.  Blessed with a natural ability that has seen him perform at the top of his game in a sport he loathes, he’s the player the fans and his teammates love to hate. They don’t call him the ‘MVP : Most Valuable Prick’ for nothing. He performs flawlessly on the ice but has a prickly demeanor, isn’t one for schmoozing, keeps people at a distance and is closed off emotionally.  I was dying to find out the cause of Alex’s animosity and what I discovered broke my heart. No wonder he had issues!

“You made me hate this game. You and you alone.”

Sutton was a sweetheart. She’s unimpressed with Alex’s success and only concerned in Alex’s ability to assist her with her Drug Outreach program, though of course she does fancy him something rotton!  Sutton was so compassionate and had such empathy for people, a beautiful soul and a perfect counterbalance for the closed off Alex.

“We all have days when our monsters come out, Alex. You’re not going to scare me off if I see yours.”

Sutton and Alex both had both carried baggage from their pasts but dealt with it in vastly different ways. Alex built walls and didn’t let people in. Sutton on the other hand had used her experiences to reach out, help and encouraging others in situations similar to hers. Sutton didn’t dwell. She was exactly what Alex needed, but would she be able to break down Alex’s carefully constructed walls and let her in?

“She brought color into my otherwise gray existence, and for that I owe her everything.”

The relationship between Alex and Sutton never felt rushed. Whilst there was no doubting the instant lust between them, the author allowed their feelings to progress naturally, giving me a chance to experience the progression and growth of their relationship right along with them. Theirs was a bumpy road with obstacles to overcome and there were times I found myself shedding a few tears for them as I experienced the intensity of their feelings.

‘She’s precariously close to becoming my everything, a thought that scares the daylights out of me’

A time or two the over descriptive nature of the prose did tend to slow the momentum of the story and I would have liked a little more dialogue but these issues in no way altered my overall enjoyment of the story.

Alex  by Sawyer Bennett was witty, emotional and scorching hot; I really experienced the sports theme of the story and romantic Alex….well….saaawoooon! I was in fear of my romantic heart beating out of my chest. I LOVED ‘THAT’ SCENEYou’ll know what I’m talking about when you read the book…sigh. The characters complimented one another beautifully and I loved Alex’s story. Here was a sports themed book that put me in those Hockey moments! This was a real winner for me and now I’ll eagerly wait for Garrett’s book after falling for him in Alex.

“Hope and perseverance—that’s what I learned from books.”

G&J: Perfection….Absolute shiver inducing PERFECTION. Tiffany Reisz surpasses every expectation yet again with her sublime writing which literally grabs you and drops you right into the thick of it. You feel everything as every single one of your senses is awakened and assaulted, but in the most brilliant of ways. The undeniable talent this Author possesses is quite simply mind-blowing. The eerie atmosphere; the scent, the touch and above all the emotion; the force of her writing power is magnificent and awe-inspiring. We laughed, cried and trembled as we lived this journey with Gwen, Edwin and the boys.

“You’re very handsome and charming when you’re being overbearing and disdainful.” ~ Gwen

“Then I shall endeavour to be less overbearing and disdainful in the future.” ~ Edwin

“Pity.” ~Gwen

The passion, sarcastic banter and clever wit was once again rife and riveting. The characters; Gwen and Edwin were, in an unbelievable short space of time, completely fleshed out and we fell in eternal love with them, as well as all the boys of Marshall Academy. Actually we believed and loved every single character no matter how minor. That’s just the Ms. Reisz way.

Edwin was an amazing man; so powerful, imposing and as Gwen said ‘virile’. He exuded dominance, intelligence, loyalty and of course ..sigh… intense sensuality.  As for Gwen; she’s the epitome of everything a heroine should be. No-nonsense, passionate, inspirational and confident in who she is. Both had that trademark Reisz stellar wit we know and love from previous books.

“You’ll stay, won’t you? No matter what happens? You’ll stay here with me? I shouldn’t ask you to stay. You don’t even know what you’re giving up. But please…”

Tiffany Reisz packs a punch, she doesn’t mess around and very quickly demands your attention as well as your complete emotional involvement. And she has it, every single time. This is why she’s a favourite – effortless, flawless and hypnotizing; Tiffany Reisz is synonymous with captivating uniqueness.

“Every book I’ll ever need? Sounds like Heaven,” she said with smile. “It’s a library,” he said. “To me it’s the same thing.”

The Headmaster is full of symbolism, classic literary references and two main characters who astound and bewitch. You cannot look away as every single word carries you on a haunting and vivid journey of romance, mystery, loyalty and friendship. Once again Tiffany Reisz makes the reader think and evaluate values and morals whilst revelling in her penned pure beauty. No one else can make you feel a myriad of emotion in one single sentence; from a heart-felt laugh to a heart-breaking tear.

“My sweet boys…”

This story is everything you could possibly want and desire in a mere 125 pages nonetheless. PERFECTION! The Headmaster is a MUST read as is anything else written by Tiffany Reisz.

This book is a prequel to Sempre. Sempre does not have to be read first, but this book contains spoilers from Sempre.

Made (2)

Gitte: ✯✯✯✯✯ Stars

“What made you this way?”
“Sweetheart, I wouldn’t even know where to begin.”

I have been desperately waiting to read Corrado’s story and it did not disappoint in any way; in fact it’s my favourite in this series from a pure emotional perspective. This whole series is a 5 star series but if I could, I would double those 5 stars for Made. I loved it; absolutely bloody loved it. J.M Darhower did not cut any corners; nor did she skim over any emotion or important aspect of Corrado Moretti’s life in the Mafia nor his childhood leading into it. Bravo JM – standing ovation!

“If we have nothing in this world, we at least have our word.”

Corrado’s voice was magnificent; it was powerful and not necessarily through the volume of words spoken because this man, well, is a man of few. Rather it’s through the precision and manner of his actions mostly. This man could express a thousand things through the fewest of words. When he did speak the magnitude, humour, love and the fierce straight up dry sarcasm of his few chosen words felt so incredibly powerful he took my heart in his strong hands and he took over the world. Without question this man is one of my all-time favourite anti-heroes. This man is MY hero!

“People should never be punished for protecting family…No matter what.”

Corrado’s intrigued me since I first met him and I was already in love with him for his quiet stoicism and the power he exudes. The Kevlar Killer has a past that had me in floods of tears at only 2% into the book. Highly emotional and visually descriptive I lived and breathed his horrific childhood and youth. We learn everything there is to know about Corrado through his own voice and heart-breakingly through his Father’s, Vito.

“I named you Corrado…my wise brave ruler.” “Why not Vito Junior?” “….you’re the one who made his way back.”

Corrado’s story is EPIC and my heart will never be the same. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this man and it’s been a while since I’ve cried so much in a story, and for no singular reason either. Many times it was the man himself; his life and how the world treats him.  You’ll be pushed to find a more real, dedicated and loyal man. It’s a paradox really; Corrado is a mafia villain but you wouldn’t find a more honourable man.

“Guess you found your reason to smile…”

The love affair between Corrado and Celia was breath-taking right from the onset. My heart felt and celebrated every step of their journey from young children to adults. There was something so honest and pure about their love, it was really quite beautiful. A stunning romance set in a violent ugly world. Celia is a brilliant heroine; brave, funny, loving and intelligent. She has a heart of pure gold.

“You deserve to be somebody’s everything, not somebody’s secret.” “You’re worth more than a moment, Celia. I’d rather give you a lifetime.”

So, this is where it all began and what a journey it was! Time-lines are tied up and we get to experience what came before; ending up at the conclusion from Sempre – Redemption. My heart raced, broke and rejoiced. My tears flowed and my admiration sky rocketed for J.M. Darhower. Made was outstanding! I miss Corrado already; he feels a huge part of me, after all, I pretty much just spent his whole life with him and he has my heart – forever. This man loves and his love is immeasurable.

“I can’t live up to it…You can’t put me on a pedestal. I’ll only fall.” ~ Celia
“You’ll never fall…Not if I’m there to catch you.” ~ Corrado

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

*NB:  In my personal opinion this series should be read in order. As Made is what came before during and after Sempre & Sempre Redemption, although from Corrado’s point of view, it carries a bucket load of spoilers. It’d be a damn shame not to experience this series unspoilt!!!*

my darrling

To the world, nineteen-year-old Isaac Darrling was nothing more than pure, unsalvageable evil; a sadistic serial killer on a quest for notoriety, fame.

To me, he was the love of my life.

My obsession.

My Darrling, as I called him.

This is a story about unconditional love in its rawest—and possibly sickest—form. A story that forces you to face the dark and the beautiful sides of forbidden love.

“All things truly wicked start from innocence.” ~ Earnest Hemingway

G&J:  We had absolutely no idea what to expect from this book and what we got was really quite thought provoking and we are still discussing this one. We couldn’t put down My Darrling for want nor money such was the debatable storyline and we read on wanting to find out how it was all going to end. There’s two sides to the coin here; one we loved the concept, the writing and the portrayal of a serial killer who became a love interest. Two; we thought this could easy have been a 5 star read if it had been a full size novel which gave us more of an insight into Isaac rather than take Sophie’s surmising and perspective on him. Also; we wanted more on Sophie and what transpired at the end. It was rushed and the ending felt odd in some respects regarding Sophie. So many things were unexplained and glossed over.

‘I hated it. But I loved it. Isaac was my favorite contradiction.’ – Sophie

It raised the following discussion points and thoughts for us:

Rather than love in the case for Sophie; was this not an infatuation stemming from original obsession? The concept of love did not fully convince us due to the short space of time involved. Rather; the enigma of a handsome young man distorted reality and judgement of an otherwise intelligent and knowing young woman.

“But I don’t understand, aren’t you afraid?” – Isaac

If a serial killer is good-looking with an attractive personality can you excuse or reason away his behaviour? Are we that fickle and swayed by the packaging rather than what it hides? Taking the lives of innocents thought secondary to looks and suave behaviour? Sophie knew who and what Isaac was, what his hands were capable off yet was not at any stage swayed by what she knew was morally right. Rather she was led by her obsession and her perceived feelings of love believing her love could change a killer.

“Isaac is too beautiful to be a killer. Those aren’t the eyes of a murderer. He must have been framed.”

Forbidden love and unconditional love; both enticing and exciting. How far would you go to accept it or revel in it? We hear about it but we frown upon it and call it crazy and delusional. It can’t be real love can it? Did we fall for Isaac in this story? Of course we did; he was portrayed as a gorgeous, sweet and caring bloke with the side order of evil killing machine. Now, importantly we fell for him because we saw him through Sophie’s eyes not his nor the eyes of the victims or the victim’s family. If that had been the case it would have been a whole different story! One which we’d probably have enjoyed even more.
