“With beating hearts and open minds, we are all the same.”
I don’t even know what to say. I’m still stunned and emotionally overwhelmed. The Shadows was beautiful, poignant, passionate and quite simply harrowing. I can’t remember sobbing my heart out to quite this extent in a BDB novel since Zsadist’ s story.
‘Annnnnd cue the eye sting. Shit.’
It was epic JR Ward in every respect. The Warden brought a whopping huge read that in no way dragged or stopped giving. This Lady is quite simply an extraordinary story-teller. It’s old yet current; thrilling yet humorous – sexy and powerful. It has an edge and is all-encompassing. All the familiar faces as well as new and the ongoing storylines were there serving a flawless and vivid purpose in the midst of two heroic, profound and desperate love stories. Bless the Angel Lassiter for bringing the light and laughter in amongst the heart-rending pain.
‘Destiny was as uncaring and influential as the wind to a flag, carrying the fabric of an individual’s existence this way and that, subjecting that which it rocked to its whims without an inquiry as to what the banner may have desired. Or may have prayed for.’
Trez and iAm; how I love these enigmatic and fierce powerhouses. There quite simply isn’t any way I can explain how surprised I was that whilst reading their respective journey’s in love how their intricate tight bond played such an intense role in what was to be. There’s no question that JR Ward showed us what lies beneath and she did it in such a stunning way I melted and sobbed at the exquisite romance. The vulnerability was mind blowing as was the gentleness at which it was executed. It’s been one hell of a long arduous journey for these brothers and each has suffered for their own respective reasons. Payback’s a bitch and she’s one that I would gladly put my shit kickers on for and beat the crap out of. But I understand.
‘…such a strange emotional landscape this all was, deep valleys of despair, followed by vast vistas that were so emotionally pure and beautiful.’
There’s an intrinsic poetic beauty to be found in complete heart-breaking pain as there is in fleeting moments of pure blissful ecstasy. If you can see beyond and understand why some things happen as they do, you can find stunning perfection in what was; which will live on in your heart. In order to give back and readdress an imbalance in life you may have to give of yourself and live with what was and what will now be in future. Now; that’s where pain can be more inspiring and extraordinarily beautiful than what was originally perceived as tragedy.
“You and I were written in the stars.”
I cannot recommend The Black Dagger Brotherhood highly enough. I fell in love with this series back in 2011 and ever since then I’ve inhaled every new release. The Shadows make number 13 in this series; 13 being the number behind spiritual growth through pain and upheaval – of gentle great power and ground breaking change. Signifying loyal souls who late in life find the soul mate they craved and unwaveringly waited for. 13 is poignantly the story of Trez and iAm.
‘…he soaked in the memories until they permeated his mind, body and soul with a glow he had never felt before.’
