THE QUEEN and the CURE (The Bird and the Sword Chronicles #2) by AMY HARMON :: REVIEW

5 Magnificent stars!
Fantasy romance series.
This can be read as a standalone but we recommend reading the first book – it’s stunning!

SYNOPSIS

“There will be a battle, and you will need to protect your heart.”

Kjell of Jeru had always known who he was. He’d never envied his brother or wanted to be king. He was the bastard son of the late King Zoltev and a servant girl, and the ignominy of his birth had never bothered him.

But there is more to a man than his parentage. More to a man than his blade, his size, or his skills, and all that Kjell once knew has shifted and changed. He is no longer simply Kjell of Jeru, a warrior defending the crown. Now he is a healer, one of the Gifted, and a man completely at odds with his power.

Called upon to rid the country of the last vestiges of the Volgar, Kjell stumbles upon a woman who has troubling glimpses of the future and no memory of the past. Armed with his unwanted gift and haunted by regret, Kjell becomes a reluctant savior, beset by old enemies and new expectations. With the woman by his side, Kjell embarks upon a journey where the greatest test may be finding the man she believes him to be.

“I have been hated before. But I don’t know if I’ve been loved. I think…once…I must have been, because I know how to love.”

It was a year ago when Amy Harmon first led us into her Fantasy world in The Bird and the Sword in which she enchanted us with the charming magic and beauty of her vivid storytelling. The minute we closed that book we hoped Amy Harmon would write more and she did! Now, a year later, we’ve just finished devouring The Queen and the Cure, and again, we’re left in absolute awe of this lady’s incredible ability to take us into her world and feed our imaginations, sweeping us up in her captivating story, unable to move for a minute and unwilling to leave her world, becoming completely lost in this story; mesmerised until the last page was read.

The Queen and the Cure is breathtaking. This book isn’t a read, it’s an adventure; and it’s one that had our hearts racing, breaking, filling with love and brimming with warmth. There are epic battle scenes, edge of your seat thrills and suspense, unforgettable characters and epic soul deep love and oh the romance….our stars, the romance was beguiling! It’s a story that reminds us that love, hope, faith and selflessness are possibly the greatest gifts of all.

“Some things cannot be healed. They must simply be endured.”

In the land of Tellers, Healers, Changers and Spinners…the gifted, once shunned and feared are beginning to gain acceptance. Though for Sasha, her gift comes at a cost. Sasha was one of the most serene, sweet and beautiful heroines we’ve ever met. Yet, for all her gentleness there is a tenaciousness and bravery to this demure young lady, we found inspiring.

‘She saw him.
He saw her.
And they saw nothing else.’

Kjell of Jeru, oh this man! What a contradiction. A loyal, honourable warrior and a gentle Healer. The unlucky in love Kjell held our hearts in his strong, capable hands. The stoic, brave Captain, oh my Captain…….A natural born protector whose heart has been closed off to love after being deceived in a cruel and hurtful way. This man was the epitome of a hero.

‘He would be a good man. A wise man. A gentleman. For the first time in his life he would be a gentle man.’

Sasha comes into Kjell’s life in a sad and tragic way, with Kjell instantly feeling a natural protectiveness to her together with a connection he tries to avoid. However, Sasha might just be his undoing, possessing the ability to break through his wounded heart.

“I fell in love with you in pieces. Layer by layer, day by day, inch by inch.”

We won’t give anything away because to do so would be a travesty to the spellbinding story Amy Harmon has created. There are twists we didn’t see coming which left us exclaiming loudly and twisting our world upside down. We were kept on our toes with the excitement, feeling the romance and love within the depths of our hearts experiencing the true passion between Sasha and Kjell – not the Kindle fanning kind, but the sort that overwhelms all senses and feelings.

“I love her more than I’ve ever loved anything – or anyone – before. It was never a choice. “

We loved everything, absolutely everything about this magnificent story. As we closed our Kindles, hearts full, exhausted and breathless from our adventures in these great lands, we bid farewell for now but leave with a longing and a hope in our hearts that Amy Harmon has a little more adventure left in her to once again revisit this series because we would happily jump back in in a heartbeat! Please, Amy, we would love more! On that note, we’ll leave the final words to Tiras…..The Creator have mercy, brother. What a tale……What a tale.”
