Original Review on 23/9/2011

I had been told about the Vincent Boys and thought it would be a good “fill in” book before moving onto another read.

Well….big mistake….huge!  This certainly was no “fill in” book for me!! This has now become one of my favourite books and was one of the most enjoyable reads I’ve had in a long time.

This was a book of  friendship, love discovery and longing and for a YA book it certainly had a heat factor…what can I say…Beau Vincent…shirtless – oh my goodness how I loved that boy.

Abbi has a way of transporting you with her stories.  I felt like I spent time in Alabama with friends.  You don’t just read this story, you become it.  You share the story with some wonderful characters –  so real you feel as if you know them.

Ashton is with Sawyer and is best friends with Sawyer’s cousin Beau.  Ashton has feeling for Beau.  Feelings that are intense and cannot be denied.  Feelings which are very different to those that she feels for Sawyer, her boyfriend.  Ashton and Beau have sexual tension that leaps off the pages!

Sawyer is torn between the “right” choice in Sawyer and the undeniable pull and feelings she has for the “wrong” choice in Beau. Have to be honest here…I was team Beau from the first time I met him.

Ash always feels she has to be the perfect girlfriend for Sawyer and wrestles with feelings that maybe she doesn’t measure up to the perfect Sawyer.

I started and finished this book in one sitting and couldn’t put it down.

You will love it too.

Roll on The Vincent Brothers because I am in no way ready to let these characters go!

Just for Now (Seabreeze #4) by Abbi Glines

SYNOPSIS

The day Preston Drake figured out that wealthy women paid well for a set of tight abs and a pretty face his life turned around.

The run down rat-infested trailer he had shared with his alcoholic mother and three younger siblings was now only a place he visited to pay the bills and stock the pantry with food.

He no longer worried about his family starving or living without electricity. The money he made entertaining rich older women more than covered his family’s needs and his own. He had it all figured out. Except…

There was this girl.

She was as innocent as he was tainted.

Amanda Hardy wished her knees didn’t get weak when Preston walked into a room. She hated the fact her heart raced when he flashed his smile in her direction. He had a different girl in his bed every night. He was the kind of boy a smart girl ran from. So, why was she coming up with ways to get close to him? Even when it was obvious he wanted to keep her at a distance.

Maybe her heart knew something the world didn’t. Maybe Preston Drake was more than just a pretty face.

4.5 *very emotional and yummy-licious* Stars

This is a new adult contemporary book.

I absolutely love the Sea Breeze series by Abbi Glines so I was beyond excited for Preston and Amanda’s story.  Once again Abbi did not disappoint by writing this blinder of a story which had me hooked from the start. The books in this series can be read as stand-alone, however if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to read in order to get to know all the characters and their backgrounds.

I have to say I found this one to be the most emotional book in this series. I was in tears several times following their journey. Preston has been dealt one hell of a bad hand in life and the way he ‘mans’ up and takes responsibility, his protective streak that goes above and beyond what you would or should expect…well my heart hurt so bad and it melted into a puddle on the floor.

Oh and this guy is beyond HOT…yeah true story, but we already knew that right, just thought I’d throw that in there! Also, this book has more ‘sex factor’ (you won’t hear me complaining) than the other books in this series and I thought it was brilliantly balanced with the emotional turmoil making this story spot on and completely un-put-down-able! So yeah if you thought it got hot with Cage…you haven’t met Preston yet.

Now, when I got to a certain point in this story a song was mentioned which is one I happen to love. As soon as I saw that, I turned my iPod on, and listened to it whilst reading.  Let me tell you…if I wasn’t emotional before, listening to this song completely did me in. Whenever a particular emotional scene with Amanda and Preston came up, I was a glutton for punishment and hit play on my iPod. Yeah at times I am a masochist because it made me cry even more! But then I like a good cry in a book.

So, we have Preston who is the definition of ‘a player/man-whore’ no getting around that, we know this is a fact, we have followed him from book to book in this series, but you know what, I get it now. His story showed me why…and I got it.  If you have never been shown love, how would you know how to give it or even know how to recognize it to be love when you feel it?  Our Preston is envious of those who have the ability to love and receive love in return. He doesn’t believe he is worth it.

Preston grew up under dire circumstances, with no one to take the brunt of it and no one to look out for him. He is adamant that his younger siblings don’t suffer the same way he did and works hard to make sure they eat and have a roof over their heads. His siblings live with their Mum in a cramped trailer that has seen better days and is actually more like a hole in the ground. Actually to call her “Mum” is an insult because she does not deserve the honour of that title. Can you tell that she got to me? Yeah….if I could have reached into the story I would have grabbed her and slapped some sense into her! Preston hates that they have to live like that and goes above and beyond to try and make sure they have what they need but also making sure they know he is there for them despite having to leave them to it. It breaks his heart….it broke mine! It all comes down to money…so Preston does what he thinks he needs to, in order to make enough to look after them ,as well as himself. The means to which, though questionable, are kind of understandable.

Preston is not proud of himself. He knows exactly what he is doing and he hates it. As to knowing who he is, he has no idea, confused by responsibilities and actions; he has lost himself along the way.

Preston thinks Amanda is way too good for him; the light to his darkness.  An innocent who will be tainted by his ugliness, a beauty and perfection he does not deserve. However, he can’t get her out of his head; out from under his skin.

“I want to be near you. I can’t seem to keep away.” – Preston

Lovely, adorable sweet and loveable Amanda has had it bad for Preston for years, a fact she hides from everyone especially her older brother Marcus who is best mates with Preston.  They hang around in the same crowd and no way would anyone think Preston was good enough for her and she knows that Preston only sees her as the little sister, no matter the effort she puts into making him notice her.

Amanda is quite clued up about Preston’s ‘persona’, she has seen him in action yet she loves him still.  She sees the real Preston underneath; the sadness the hopelessness and despite knowing she deserves more, she can’t leave him alone, she craves him and wants to be there for him; protect him.

Amanda knows what love is. She has a huge heart and knows the value of forgiveness; one of the biggest and hardest gifts you can give to another. Despite Preston giving Amanda whip lash she sticks around, she fights for it. She believes she can teach Preston how to love, how it feels and show him he deserves to be loved for who he is.

Then one night it happens….Preston sees Amanda:

“You need to push me away and send me packing ‘cause I don’t think I can stop this on my own”….”Manda you’re real sweet. Real fucking sweet and I’m not the kind of guy you’re supposed to let get this close”

….and so their emotional journey begins….

“I’m sorry I can’t be who you need me to be” … “I want to change. You make me want to change everything. I just can’t”

“Why are we here, Preston?” – Amanda

“I don’t know. I wanted to come out here to think. It’s where I think best. And I wanted you to be with me.” – Preston

“Did I need her to breathe….

Could I imagine life without her….

Could I be in love with her…..”

I cannot recommend the ‘Sea Breeze’ series highly enough and once again just when I thought Abbi Glines couldn’t top the last book in this series, she goes and does just that!

While It Lasts (Sea Breeze #3) by Abbi Glines

SYNOPSIS

Maybe driving home after a few (or more) shots of tequila had been a bad idea, but hell, he did it all the time. The cops had to have been freaking bored to have pulled him over. He wasn’t even swerving! That’s Cage York’s story and he’s sticking to it.

Unfortunately, his baseball coach isn’t buying it. Cage has a free ride to the local junior college for baseball — or he did, until he’d gotten a DUI. Now, Cage has to decide: does he drop out and give up his dream of getting noticed by a college in the SEC, and possibly making it into the Major Leagues — or does he give in to his coach’s demands and spend his summer baling hay?

Eva Brooks planned out her life step by step when she was eight years old. Not once over the years had she lost sight of her goals. Josh Beasley, her next door neighbor, had been the center of those goals. He’d been her first boyfriend at seven, her first kiss at ten, her first date at fifteen, and her first tragedy at eighteen. The moment she’d received the phone call from Josh’s mother saying he’d been killed along with four other soldiers just north of Baghdad, Eva’s carefully planned life imploded in the worst way possible.

Cage isn’t real happy with his closet-sized bedroom in the back of a foul smelling barn, or his daily interactions with cows, but he knows that if he doesn’t make his coach happy then he can kiss his scholarship goodbye. Only a sick and twisted man would decide his punishment was to be working on a farm all summer. No hot babes in bikinis waiting to meet a Southern boy to make her vacation complete. Just him and the damned cows.

Oh — and an uptight, snarky brunette with the biggest blue eyes he’s every seen. But she doesn’t count, because as hard as he’s tried to charm her out of her panties – he’s pretty sure she’d rather see him hung from the rafters than let him get a taste of her pretty little lips.

This is the 3rd book in the series and this one is Cage’s story who we met in Because of Low. I  would personally recommend reading this series in order to get the full awareness of the relationships of the characters however it is not necessary.

I have to say that While it Lasts is my favorite book so far in the Sea Breeze series! My heart belonged to Marcus but wow Cage is something else! I started having a bit of a crush on him in the previous book, the ultimate bad boy. But now, I have to say I am completely in love with this guy!! I remember writing in my review of Because of Low that I was desperate for Cage to have his own story told and I WAS NOT disappointed!

First of all Abbi had me crying like a baby in the prologue. What a way to start a book, leaving the reader all emotional and then in comes the lush Cage and takes over with his arrogant charm and yumminess!!!

Cage was such a player so much so I actually didn’t want to like him but secretly did. Starting this book I was so surprised when rather than wanting to see him redeem himself, he proved that he was not his reputation, he was so much more. His actions being totally understandable in the grand scheme of his life. Cage is such an alpha male yet he has this vulnerable side and his actions and what he says just completely melts you into a puddle on the floor. I could hear his accent in my head when he spoke, and yes I have a real thing for that Southern drawl!!! He is as honest as they come, REAL and he knows who he is and doesn’t apologize for it. Cage is pretty special!!

Eva is adorable and she made such an impression on me.  She was feisty, kind , confident and very lovable.  She was pretty faultless though slightly naïve at times which are to be expected when someone has suffered from the loss of a loved one at such a young age!  My heart really did break for her at the beginning of the story.  She has this huge wall around her heart due to the traumatic loss she suffered, not letting anyone in and guarding her heart which she gave away and she is yet to acknowledge is hers still.

I loved the connection between Eva and Cage. It was so strong, passionate and intense.  Due to Eva’s circumstances it never came to a head from either of them immediately, which I thought was great. It meant that the relationship that was built did so at a pace that was real and believable and was cemented on a common ground where all the cards have been laid on the table.  The fact that Cage let Eva in and trusting her with his true self was pretty special because it had a domino effect on Eva letting go of her past, realising her heart was still hers to give and she could be happy again.

So yeah to say I loved this book is an understatement! I also think there is plenty more story in Cage & Eva…

Because of Low (Sea Breeze, #2) – by Abbi Glines

SYNOPSIS

In my debut novel, Breathe, Sadie may have fallen in love with the teen rock star, Jax Stone, but readers fell head over heels for Marcus Hardy. This is his story…

Marcus Hardy had hoped to enjoy a year away at college while he put the summer he’d rather forget behind him. But instead, he’s jerked right back to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama due to a family crisis. His dear ol’ dad found himself a girlfriend only a few years older than Marcus. So now his sister needs help dealing with their mother who is mentally falling apart. The only bright spot to returning is the fascinating red head who sleeps over several times a week. The problem is she’s sleeping in bed with his new roommate, Cage York.

Willow “Low” Foster needs a place to live. Running to Cage’s apartment every time her sister kicks her out isn’t exactly a long term solution. Juggling her courses at the local community college and a part time job doesn’t produce excess income. But Cage has a new roommate and suddenly sleeping over at her best friend’s apartment isn’t such a bad thing. Not when she gets to see those sexy green eyes of Marcus Hardy’s twinkle when he smiles at her like he wants her there.
Even though Cage seems a little territorial where Low is concerned, Marcus finds time to spend with Low without upsetting his roommate. Cage may use his small college baseball star persona to sleep with every hot female in his path but he’s still under the disillusion that when he’s through sowing his wild oats, he’s going to marry Low. Marcus intends to change that assumption for both Cage and Low. Until his carefully laid plans come crashing down with a revelation he never expected. He’ll have to choose between Low or his family. Because once the truth comes out…. there’s no other choice.

Ok I LOVED “Because of Low” I preferred it to Breathe. It was more of an everyday story, it had everyday dialogue, it was funny and *sigh* it was ALL about Marcus YUM!!!! I lost my heart to Marcus in Breathe, he was gentle, loving and super protective but he just grabbed it tighter in this one, he got all alpha and HOT..what a scrumptious bloke!!!

So the story begins when Marcus has to return home because his dog of a dad is cheating on his mum with a bit of fluff at work. Marcus is over Sadie now and trying to juggle studying with sorting out his family issues. He moves in with Cage (a sex-aholic who needs his own book btw Abbi Glines!!)through whom he meets the gorgeous Low. Low is a sweet girl from the wrong side of town with tons of family drama, this makes her have low self-worth and trust issues. Cage and Low have known each other since they were kids, looking out for each other growing up in a difficult environment and have this amazing special bond which I absolutely loved! My heart melted over Cage’s and Low’s friendship!!! But got to say Marcus not only melted my heart, he left it in a puddle on the floor!! I felt such an emotional attachment to the characters, they were very REAL to me cause of the excellent writing of A. Glines!!

So this is where the story begins with Marcus, Cage and the homeless Low….be ready for an emotional roller-coaster ride with a FAB twist in the end!!

I’m going to be completely honest here, Breathe didn’t sound like a book I was going to enjoy, but I really wanted to read it because I like Abbi Glines’ other books. It sounded too much like an adult version of a fairytale, Cinderella springs to mind. However, I actually really enjoyed it…shocker…consider me told!!! It was sweet…very sweet, kind of unbelievable, but what girl hasn’t dreamt of meeting a rock star and him falling in love with her. I know I did, I was sure Richie Sambora was going to see me and fall in complete love with me!!!

Sadie White takes over her mum’s job as a servant seeing that her mum is heavily pregnant. This summer job sees her working at Jax Stone’s (super famous rockstar) house but Sadie is such a grounded and mature girl that this does not impress her! Jax is smitten straight away and makes his move when he sees Marcus (Sadies new friend who also works for the Stone family)go for it with Sadie. Without wanting to spoil anything this is where the very emotional journey begins…a bit of a roller-coaster ride!

I really felt for Sadie and her struggles, she had to grow up too quickly and I liked Jax and his honesty of feelings and *sigh* the hospital scene was so….wow …however my heart belonged to Marcus….!!!!
