LOVE IN LINGERIE by ALESSANDRA TORRE :: REVIEW

Standalone sexy office romance

love 16th

SYNOPSIS

I hired her to fix my company, to bring Marks Lingerie back to life. I didn’t expect her to become my friend. I didn’t expect to fall in love with her.

The first rule of business is to never touch your employees. I think there is another rule about not falling for your best friend—a rule against imagining the curves of her body, or the way her breathing would change if I pulled down her panties and unzipped my pants.

Now, I can’t wait any longer. I’m tossing out the rules.

Damn the company.
Damn our friendship.
Damn my fears.

Love in Lingerie

Reviewed by Gitte & Jenny

 ‘The man should be illegal.’

Sexy, fun, seductive and enticing….there’s knickers and bra’s for every occasion and there’s Love in Lingerie.  We jumped straight in and were immediately swept away by everything Trey; pass the fan please! Who doesn’t love a sexy office romance? Even better, who doesn’t love a strong and feisty heroine, a mature and sexy hero as well as a friends to lovers romance.

“But despite what you may have heard about me, there are certain lines I don’t cross, and fucking my employees is one of them.”

“Literally or figuratively?”

When Kate joins Trey’s company there’s an immediate sexual tension which is soon overtaken by a beautiful and cheeky friendship. Different as night and day, they have an immediate strong connection which grows over the years. We felt it and revelled in it. It was swoony, flirtatious and so very delicious. There was heat, vulnerability, understanding and angst wrapped up in lace and leather.

‘If this woman was lingerie, she’d be black leather, with studs along the seams and enough of a dominatrix vibe to give a man pause. If this woman was lingerie, I’d strip it off and then properly show her who is in charge.

Trey and Kate’s story is an enjoyable, hot and easy read. It’s well written yet has a very slow build. Which in some ways felt a contradiction as their story spans a few years yet we never really experienced detailed time with them. A romance which felt unattainable, whilst in the same breath, smoke was wafting off of the pages from the intensity of sexual chemistry and attraction.

If Love in Lingerie was a bra and knickers set, we think it would be a lacy, teasing and tantalising one piece with silky ties that goes on for miles in hot fiery red.

The summer that Chase Stern entered my life, I was seventeen. The daughter of a legend, the Yankees were my family, their stadium my home, their dugout my workplace. My focus was on the game.
Chase… he started out as a distraction. A distraction with sex appeal poured into every inch of his six foot frame. A distraction who played like a god and partied like a devil.
I tried to stay away. I couldn’t.
Then, the team started losing.
Women started dying.
And everything in my world broke apart.Click below to purchase:

Moonshot

Reviewed by Gitte & Jenny

‘Together we would only bring chaos.’

We finished Moonshot in one sitting. How could we not?! This story was absolutely everything we love and more. It had romance, passion, angst, suspense and drama all wrapped up in the world of baseball. Namely the New York Yankees.

‘This team was my family, my soul. And I think that was what made everything that happened so damn complicated.’

Oh how we loved this story, we were overcome with emotions spanning every spectrum falling deeper and deeper until all we saw was Ty and Chase and a love which was as intense as a burning flame that will not be extinguished. It was fated to not survive from the start but it demanded to be felt and live on- in two hearts that beat for each other with such strength and passion. So many factors tried to extinguish a love so bright; age difference, family and highly emotive circumstances beyond control. We were on tenterhooks the whole way through as an eerie atmosphere played a solemn beat in the background of a true love story.

‘First loves were supposed to be flimsy and temperamental. They were supposed to burn bright and fade fast. They weren’t supposed to stick. They weren’t supposed to eat away at a man’s heart, his capacity for life.’

Alessandra Torre has a very unique writing style, one that only emphasised the tone of this story. Short, sharp and straight to the point she demanded our attention and invited our heart and soul to become entwined in the lives of her characters. And so they did.

‘Our kiss had energy, it was a battle- one fought with gentle teases, exploratory touches, and passion- need pulling me forward even as I tried my best to push him away.’

We felt every word, we came to be caught up in the bright lights, the sounds and smells of the ball game. We experienced the intense rush- the highs and the lows. Ultimately, we experienced the heartbreak, the devastation and the bone crushing pain of everything spiralling out of control leaving you wrought and battered and spit out on the floor wondering how will this ever get any better and how and where did everything go so wrong?

‘Men had been killed over kisses like that. Careers had been lost. Hearts had been stolen. He needed to stay away from her. Focus on his game and forget everything else.’

We felt like we grew with Ty as the story progressed. From a teenager to a grown woman who found love so early, only to herself help the hand of circumstance in turning her life upside down.  And Chase; an arrogant man five years older who wreaks havoc wherever he goes yet masks a loving gentle soul that loves, perhaps too much. This man demanded attention, an incredibly powerful presence that overshadowed everything yet craved to be seen and loved.

‘She was laughing, her head back, smile big, her blonde hair fanning out as she lifted her hands and turned. It might have been the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.’

Moonshot was a flawless, unique and exhilarating second chance romance that embraces the passionate and sexy whilst never straying from the ball game. We highly recommend snapping this story up as soon as you can. You will not be disappointed!

“Look to the moon when you swing,” he instructed. “That’s what you want. A ball that disappears into it. One that goes to the moon and past. A moonshot.”

✯✯✯✯✯ ‘Cocky’ stars

‘They say that love is finding your soul’s mate in another. I found my match.’

Sometimes an unpretentious love story is just what the book loving heart needs. Unpretentious is not easy to write and still keep the reader engaged; make the reader fall in love and be riveted to the story and romance. However, that is just what Alessandra Torre did and achieved to perfection. Less is often more because it truly showcases the crux of why we love a brilliant heartfelt love story.

‘She put herself too far out there, felt too strongly, would love too fiercely, give too freely, her actions a roadmap to destruction that would one day kill that spirit. His instinct to protect that spirit, to strengthen her defences…he both wanted to throw her to the wolves and lock her away in a castle, all at the same time.’

Summer Jenkins is truly a brilliant heroine, she shows such strength and conviction whilst hinting at an absolutely endearing vulnerability. She shines through every page! It’s no wonder the cocky Oscar winning leading man, Cole falls hook line and sinker albeit as reluctantly as Summer. This man has a huge heart and we just fell in complete love with his character. The pair of them both know what they want and they set out to get it. They couldn’t come from a more different world yet their hearts beat in unison.  Perseverance and actions led by these hearts was a treat to experience.

‘He wanted to explore more of the girl who hid behind all of that fire.’

Summer AND Cole have not had it easy relationship wise. Their experience leaving a darkness on their hearts – in their lives and is set to mar their future. This leads them to become reluctant romance seekers. Both playing a role in life that masks their pain. Their journey to overcome and reflect was a beauty to read and we felt them at every step of their way.

‘But love shouldn’t hurt, shouldn’t dig through your chest, carve out your heart, and serve it like a meal. Or maybe it only hurts when it’s real. Maybe when breakups didn’t hurt – that was when you knew the love was false.’

On another note we have to mention one unlikely friendship we fell in complete love with. Cole and his ‘Cocky’ – it made us smile and kind of swoon which felt odd but so bloody lovely at the same time. Men and kids – Men and Pets….melts our hearts!

We loved Hollywood Dirt and absolutely reveled in fabulous characters, an intriguing story line and a beautiful romance. Home grown country girl meets Hollywood heart-throb and sparks fly; literally! What more could we have asked for?! The story was written flawlessly with a perfect mix of humour, angst and romance – it was #BookLove at first page turn. One of our favourite romances of the year.

‘Love did that to you. Sucked you in and blurred out everything else.’

Jenny:  Before we start, I’m going to say two things to readers…..BEWARE OF SPOILERS! It’s imperative that you go into this book blind, and then…prepare to be gobsmacked!!!

Black Lies was our first read by this author and it most certainly won’t be my last. I completely fell in love with her almost poetic writing style which captivated me throughout and although I did peg the ‘outcome‘ very early in the story (which we both discussed in one of our early ‘progress chats’ G) this in no way detracted from my enjoyment of the story nor did it deter me from desperately needing to flick through the pages to discover the ‘how and why’s’ of what came to be. What played out was at times suspenseful, exhilarating, passionate and heartbreaking.

Although I personally didn’t experience the big shock factor, I’m going to say, hang on to your Kindles because you are going to be completely blown away by the events that transpire in Black Lies. Despite my guessing how things would unfold, this was still one hell of a ride.

‘I will fight for this love. Lie for it. Steal for it. It is worthy of that.’

The men in Layana’s life were so, so different yet each fulfilled a need within her and who each held a piece of her heart. Brant….a brilliant, successful, loving, unassuming yet passionate man whose unequivocal love for Layana knew no bounds and who Layana loved implicitly. This man had the ability to break my heart at times.

“I love you. You, Layana Fairmont, are impossible not to love.”

Brash, volatile and unpredictable Lee who speaks to her wanton side and who, despite his vast differences to Brant becomes an essential part of her life.

‘Love. It makes us do crazy things.’

So, how far would you go for love and how do you choose between two men who together your heart and needs craves to make it whole?

‘I love her too much to share her. I hate him with a vengeance that turns my blood white.’

My logical self was left with a few unanswered questions but my reading/entertainment self was left very satisfied with Black Lies. I couldn’t put it down.  An addictive, exhilarating and clever book that readers are going to devour and be talking about long after finishing.

Gitte: I have to agree; I love Alessandra Torre’s writing. It comes across effortless; it’s so vividly descriptive without bogging the story down. It just flowed and I inhaled every word wanting to know how it was all going to be tied up in the end.

‘True love makes a person reckless, makes them take risks and make sacrifices. True love tests the boundaries of our person, makes us yearn to be better and fight for the ground we stand on.’

I too guessed the twist before it was revealed, the questions that I had whilst reading mounting and pointing to the same answer and conclusion. However I agree, it did not hamper my enjoyment, though I’m glad I didn’t know going into this story as it was like playing Ms. Marple and I do love a confounding mystery. There were a few plot holes along the way, however, those aside I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Layana was at the heart of the mystery and whilst I loved her sweet, honest and caring side; it was her passion, love and loyalty that really endeared her to me. Along the way I questioned her dubious actions but they were borne out of just those qualities, so yeah…..

‘I risked losing him. I risked destroying his life. I risked saving our love. Our future.’

Black Lies has everything that keeps a reader reading, intrigued and invested till the end. It was passionate; emotional, thrilling and very sexy. I really enjoyed it and thought the characters were brilliant. I did mostly lean towards the cocky sexy-arse Lee, I have to admit, he’s my kind of man. The filthy and dirty hands on working man.

“Everything fades unless I’m with you.”

I’m a bit over the whole billionaire posh boy show, though of course I fell in love with Brant too. I couldn’t resist that hidden vulnerability behind the well-polished hard exterior. Oh and he was a bit of a geek, which I love. Two very different men; both with lovable and attractive characteristics. I wouldn’t say no to being the meat in that sarnie that’s for sure.
