Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00037]

They say the only good thing about hitting rock bottom is that it can’t get any worse . . . or can it?

World famous boxing champ, Felix Sanchez, had it all—the fame, the fortune, and all the women any man could ask for. When the hours of partying followed by hours spent in court and in rehab begin to outnumber the hours he spends training, losing his title comes as no surprise to everyone. The world assumes he deserved to lose it.

Only those closest to Felix know the real truth behind his sudden downward spiral. And if Felix has his way, no one else ever will. With an uncertain future ahead of him, he heads back to his roots—5th Street—the gym that started it all for him. It’s where he meets the humble but mighty little Ms. Ella.

The only times Felix had ever decided to forgo the usual meaningless fling and try a real relationship he was burned badly. Now the adorable but tenacious self-defense instructor has him considering this love thing one more time.

Then just when he begins to worry that his past is letting his possessive and jaded heart get the best of him, he’s blindsided in the most brutal way—he’s brought to his knees—to what could be the one low in his life he may never recover from.

“You are who you choose to be.”

I’ve always loved Elizabeth Reyes’ books, they’re always so well written and flawless. They capture me and I get swept away. I was dying to get to Felix’s story; the cocky bad boy, fierce fighter and player extraordinaire. I had no idea that what I was in fact in for was one of the more emotional stories in this series because of what came to be. Both Felix and Ella had my heart bleeding.

“Your scars are a symbol of your strength.”

I did find the first half of this story quite slow and repetitive. However, once the real heartfelt emotion kicked in and we discovered what Felix was inherently all about as things developed with Ella, it had me riveted. My heart broke and melted in equal measure. This couple are all about bravery, trust and love and I completely believed in their relationship.

Ella was a lovable, strong and inspirational heroine. This young girl knew who she was; what she wanted and showed courage in her conviction. She was a sweetheart and at times I was amazed at the weight she carried on her shoulders.

“Mighty Little Ms. Ella.”

My heart ached for this beautiful girl and absolutely, Felix knew that Ella was incredibly special, she was his soul mate. They were exactly what each other needed and the attraction was intense and believable. It wasn’t an easy ride though; what they went through individually and together was quite something. Some moments were so emotional and Felix showed his true lovable, understanding and protective nature.

“We’ll start with the story of us, just as soon as you say you’re in this all the way.”

Felix, wow, his story broke my heart. I did not see that coming and I had tears as the reasons behind his reckless behaviour were revealed. I did find that Ella’s strong character and story overshadowed Felix’s through most of this book however, this was not necessarily a bad thing. To be honest, it felt quite refreshing.

I feel a bit sad that this series has come to an end as I’ve really enjoyed every book. Noah is still the one that stands out for me and has to be my favourite. On a last note; I kind of want to give Elizabeth Reyes a standing ovation for the epilogue we got in Felix. What a fantastic way to end a series I bloody loved it!!

Bethany Amaya is working three jobs, worrying about her family back home, and running from her past. The worst thing that could complicate her life further would be a romance. But after a second-run in with the irresistibly sexy detective Damian Santiago, that’s exactly what she gets. In the blink of an eye, she’s caught up in a passionate romance with one of the most intense men she’s ever met.

Awestruck for a second time by the beautiful and intriguing performer, Damian is both surprised and delighted that Bethany agrees to something he didn’t even expect to be asking for so soon—exclusivity. As things heat up, Damian’s skills of detecting and reading body language begin to raise suspicions—Bethany is keeping something from him. Try as he might to calm his suspicions, the blatant signs become impossible to ignore.

Some things are better left unsaid. At least that’s what Bethany keeps telling herself. She never imagined falling in love so quickly, and she refuses to get Damian caught up in her troubles. She knows what he suspects—sees it in those possessive eyes. With Damian’s suspicions mounting, time is of the essence. The race is on, and Bethany finds herself scrambling to fix the past before the truth comes out and Damian finds out that it’s much worse than he suspected.

I have been a huge fan of this Author since picking up my first book which was from her Moreno Brother’s series. Since then I have devoured every single new release from her and I’ve never been disappointed. Elizabeth Reyes’ writing is always beautiful and flawless, it comes across effortless and the whole reading experience is fluid and smooth. If this Author is new to you I highly recommend ALL her books and if she isn’t, you’ll know what I mean and you’ll without question enjoy her Desert Heat as much as any other story. It was a little different, sure, but it had the Reyes spark, no question!

In Desert Heat we meet the luscious and passionate Detective, Damian Santiago, and let’s just say it was love and lust at first ‘word’ for me. We meet him at speed dating with his mate and I was in stitches but also kind of wishing I was there! This guy will melt anyone’s knickers off as he did with our heroine, Bethany Amaya. He’s not into relationships, he’s scarily intense and when he wants something he does not mess about. Damian is a smooth talker and you know that just one kiss from this guy will make your knees buckle and your insides melt. Lock me down Damian….Lock me down!!!! SWOON!!!!!

‘Make me yours’

Now, bring on the sweetheart that is Bethany Amaya. A conundrum. A hider of secrets with an aversion to the truth, but a girl who wears her heart on her sleeve regardless. I really liked Bethany and how she was with Damian. I was desperate to find out what her secrets were and she kept me guessing right till the end so it was a shocker for sure, I did not expect that!

‘La vida es un carnival..If life were really a carnival, for years Bethany had been stuck on a roller coaster with far more plunging falls and sharp turns than ups.’

Bethany is running from something and someone but her well laid plans halts when she meets the lush Damian and a passion and lust is ignited instantly. I have to say, at times I was thinking come on already, just give this guy a chance to understand what you’re hiding. I suppose because Damian put everything out there I wanted Bethany to do the same. The angst and tension when Damian realises just what Bethany’s secrets are, because he knows from the beginning something is amiss, well you can’t blame the bloke for blowing a fuse. Even I was gobsmacked!! His reactions once he’d come to terms with everything, well they showed just how he was the salt of the earth. Loved him!!

Damian and Bethany’s story was beautiful, intense and oh so romantic. It also had humour and intrigue. I can’t wait for more from the Santiago’s because everyone in this story had me intrigued and wanting more, bring on the ‘Deserts Ratz’! Man, Elizabeth Reyes sure writes brilliantly addictive series with great characters. I fall in love every single time without fail!

I do love Elizabeth Reyes’ stories, I know what to expect and I haven’t been overly disappointed yet. Sure, some are better than others, but I am pretty much swept away in her world every time.

This story is about Hector and Charlee. We have met Hector in the previous 5th Street novels – Noah and Gio and I would really recommend reading this series in order. You will have the background on the rest of the 5th Street guys…oh h and you wouldn’t want to miss out on Noah and Gio….sigh! Pure sweet and sexy indulgence.

I’ve been looking forward to Hector’s story for a while and overall I was not disappointed. However, I do feel that this instalment was missing something; perhaps it was the fact that the rest of the gang wasn’t in it much, 5th Street didn’t really feature also Hector seemed slightly different not as cheeky and sarcastic and I felt at certain times in the story that events were mentioned we should have really known about or been told of as dedicated readers. I felt that part of Hector’s story focused too much on one element which I won’t spoil and this made the story drag at times.

Despite those issues I enjoyed it as the quality of the writing and the way in which this Author writes her heroes is just perfect and swoon worthy.

Right, so our heroine Charlee is a gorgeous freckled redhead, a sweet and innocent girl who is starting afresh at college with her friend Drew. Charlee is shy and timid with a humiliating secret she is running from.  She immerses herself in the words of chess and competitions.

Hector is running from guilt, trying to rectify past mistakes and trying to not let the guilt determine his future by making it up for it.

Hector and Charlee meet through a mutual friend and a poignant situation and instantly there is something there, well for Charlee anyway who immediately recognises her feelings. For Hector it takes a while longer as she is not like any of his many typical conquests.

I loved the relationship between Hector and Charlee and the whole message of how Love decides where to make a home.

Now bring on Abel’s book….I cannot wait!

Gio (5th Street #2) by Elizabeth Reyes

When tragedy strikes in the ring, Giovanni Bravo falls into a deep depression, walking away from his dream of boxing to train instead. He agrees to a two month get-away, helping train Felix Sanchez, his high school buddy and now welterweight champ of the world. Once at Felix’s lavish boxing complex, he’s reunited with Bianca Rubio, someone he remembers only as the girl with the innocent doe eyes back in high school. Her refreshing, cheerful demeanor not only takes Gio’s mind off his troubled conscience, he finds himself falling for her fast and hard. The problem—Bianca is Felix’s girlfriend.

Having a sexy, famous boyfriend has its perks, but they come with a price. Bianca not only has to deal with the ongoing tabloid rumors about her boyfriend’s questionable relationships with other women, but also his constant absence when he is on the road. So now that Felix will be in town for two whole months to train for his next big bout, Bianca is thrilled. He’s even asked her to move into his cabin while he’s there. But when he leaves for days at a time to promote his fight, Bianca spends time getting to know Felix’s gorgeous new trainer and good friend, Gio. Increasingly drawn to his sweet smile and smoldering green eyes, she finds herself saying and doing things she normally wouldn’t.

As it becomes more and more difficult to resist the mutual attraction, Gio crosses the line between them. He hopes that one kiss will alleviate the overwhelming temptation and clear both their systems, but it does just the opposite. Their temptation suddenly becomes an overwhelming longing–a longing that quickly forces Gio to realize this is more than just lust. He’s fallen hard and to his delight so has she. Now he’s forced to make the hardest decision of his life. Risk losing a long time friend or walk away from the only girl he’s ever loved.

Elizabeth Reyes never disappoints! Her style of writing in the 5th Street series just flows so easily and picks you up for the ride. It stays centered and to the point without always including all the, sometimes, unnecessary side stories. This makes 5th Street a refreshing change because it focuses intently on the 2 main characters and their journey, which makes it that more real and emotional.

This is the second book in the series and Reyes had me hooked once again with Gio..yummy lush Gio with his amazing green eyes..sigh…and the sweet and adorable Bianca!!! Their story was passionate and intense!!

The story-line is one that can be difficult to read. We all know that love is not simple, it is not neat and tidy and it isn’t predictable. Love is uncontrollable when it happens. We also know that two wrongs don’t make a right, and that with deception comes guilt. However, I think Reyes dealt with it beautifully and sensitively. I got it and I completely understood!!

Fate (Fate #1) by Elizabeth Reyes

When Rose tagged along with her big sister to a baby shower the last thing she expected was to meet a guy. But this wasn’t just any guy. This was the exciting, sexy as sin, way out of her league black sheep of his family–Vincent Moreno. Even more surprising, this heart-stopping bad boy seemed interested in her.

Fate always had a way of interfering in Vince’s best-laid plans. His forced attendance to his annoyingly perfect cousin’s baby shower was no different. He was sure to be bored out of his skull, but instead, he met sweet little Rosie Zendejas.

What begins as a unlikely friendship between two very different people turns into one of the most intense and passionate relationships that neither ever saw coming. But just like it had so many times in Vince’s troubled past, Fate steps in once again, threatening to take away the one thing he can’t seem to even breathe without now—Rose.

Mature YA – New Adult. Fate is a Moreno Brothers spinoff series. All books in the series are stand alone and can be read separately without the need to read the others in the series.

Gitte: 4 Stars

We first met Vince and Rose in the Moreno Brothers series, specifically in ‘Making you Mine’ (book #5). However, you can read Fate (Fate #1) the spin off as a stand-alone. In my personal opinion though I cannot recommend the Moreno Brother’s series highly enough and it will always be one of my favourite Mature YA series when I need that fix in between reading other genres. Elizabeth Reyes is without doubt one of the most talented Authors there is in this genre for that fix. So go pick the Moreno Brothers up then go get Fate and you will lose a piece of your heart to these characters…no question!

In Fate we get to hear both the voices of our main characters Vince and Rose. I thought they were very well written and the past and present changes were flawless and gave so much insight making re-connecting with all the old characters again instant and I had an immediate connection with Rose and Vince.

My only negative is that there wasn’t enough of Rose and Vince together in the present, too much of their relationship was handled through text messages and I felt the ending was rushed. I wanted more of them together especially after all the drama and everything they went through.

In Fate the message is clear from the outset. It’s a beautiful story of love, honesty, trust, forgiveness and wanting to change for the better for not only the person you love but ultimately yourself.

So we have our Rose. She is such an adorable, innocent and level headed girl. At no point did she annoy me, as her age was a huge factor in her actions, in my opinion. We are with her through her years of becoming an adult and experience all her first which was so romantic and sweet.

I loved Vince, he had me completely and because of this I thought he got a real bashing at times in this story which had me frustratingly annoyed with just about every character at one stage or another. He was gorgeous! Unfortunately, he was so misunderstood and almost written off by everyone. Yes he had a dodgy track record but nothing major yet he was first and foremost blamed or pointed at as a wrong doer. I have to say I almost wasn’t sure whether at the end, he got the redemption he was owed nor the respect he actually deserved and was entitled to. Yeah that’s how strongly I felt for this character!

Together Rose and Vince made sense. They evened each other out. They were meant to be!

Overall I really enjoyed this story, I thought the twists and turns it took were romantic, tense, and emotional also I loved that we got to catch up with all the Moreno’s.

I knew there was a reason for why I automatically one-click when this Author releases a new book! I cannot wait for the next one in this series or any other book for that matter by Elizabeth Reyes.
