As the lead singer of Stage Dive, Jimmy is used to getting whatever he wants, whenever he wants it, whether it’s booze, drugs, or women. However, when a PR disaster serves as a wake-up call about his life and lands him in rehab, he finds himself with Lena, a new assistant to keep him out of trouble.

Lena’s not willing to take any crap from the sexy rocker and is determined to keep their relationship completely professional, despite their sizzling chemistry. But when Jimmy pushes her too far and Lena leaves, he realizes that he may just have lost the best thing that ever happened to him.

J&G:  ✯✯✯✯ Stars

Lick set the standard for the Stage Dive series for us. That story had the perfect balance of emotion, humour and character development. David and Ev stole our hearts, we ‘felt’ their story and it’s still one of our favourite rock star books out there!

Jimmy’s always been a fascinating character. The tortured soul in a band full of larks. HIS was the story we were dying to read. His was the story we felt was going to tug at the emotions and we expected to witness and feel his pain first hand. We thought this book was going to destroy us.  After all, Jimmy had demons he carried around for years and was personally responsible for nearly driving the band apart.  We did see the occasional glimpses but just expected more…..

Now, don’t get us wrong, we had plenty of laughs and there were certainly a couple of moments in Lead that pulled on our heartstrings but we missed the emotion that was so prevalent in the first book.

‘The man was cracking before my eyes and watching him come apart felt like torture.’

Whilst we certainly did enjoy Lead we feel the original formula is something we really miss and we’re beginning to think that maybe this lays on us. Maybe our expectations for the rest of the series following Lick have been mistaken and the mood and emotion which wow’ed us so incredibly much in Lick was not how the rest of the series was intended to play out and if so, then that’s on us.

‘Jimmy Ferris as an illegal, dangerous, controlled substance. Funnily enough, I could see it. The man affected me on all the levels no matter how much I tried to resist, damn it.’

****What we loved about LEAD****

~ Lena: She really stole the show in Lead. Her character was multi-faceted and as we only had her POV we really got to understand and empathise with her. Lena has very quickly become one of our favourite female characters out there. She was no-nonsense; feisty and honest. She knew what she wanted and she wouldn’t settle for second best.

~ The humour: Kylie Scott has a wicked sense of humour which really translates well on paper. She had us cracking up so many times we lost count.

“Your shirt is so ugly it made her cry.”

~ The romance: From Lena’s POV we got swept up in how her crush progressed to love through humour and forced circumstance. It was sweet, funny and quite emotional at times.

“You’re watching me all the time and it’s fucking creepy. I can’t take it anymore.”

~ Catching up with the whole crew especially David & Ev. The Stage Dive guys are something special!

~ Kylie’s flawless and excellent writing. We got swept up, no question.

“I can’t stand not having you there, not knowing what you’re thinking, what you’re doing, not being able to tell you things and share them with you.”

****What we felt was missing in LEAD****

~ Jimmy’s POV: We were told rather than left to experience therefore did not feel or get that emotional connection. Jimmy’s story is the one we were both so eagerly anticipating therefore we were disappointed not to get inside his head and feel his pain. Jimmy’s an addict; he’s struggling and has a real attitude problem. He’s the suffering rock star……we didn’t really feel this.

“So it’s preferable to live your life alone and unhappy?”

“Better than winding up broken. Better than breaking someone.”

~ The relationship between David and Jimmy: Though explored in Lead, once again, the emotion and angst felt by the brothers was missing. As this had always been alluded to throughout the books we were so looking forward to ‘feeling’ these moments and we didn’t.

~ The rock star element: There was none to speak of really. There was no musical setting where we felt the exhilaration of what rock star books should have.

Kylie Scott sure does produce characters who put a smile on our faces and warm our hearts. Lena was pure joy and a bloody good match for the wayward Jimmy. Although Lead didn’t pan out quite as we anticipated, it was most definitely an entertaining read and we certainly enjoyed it.

The Stage Dive series has been a lot of fun that’s for sure and we’ve enjoyed this series so far. We’re eagerly awaiting Ben’s book in December. We think we know what you’re up to Benny Boy and looking forward to seeing how your story unfolds.

PLAY (Stage Dive #2) by KYLIE SCOTT

Kylie Scott returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to international bestseller LICK Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl. Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones.
But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

J&G: 4 Stars

“Life’s a song, Anne. Let’s play.”

Gitte: Oh wow, how much were we gagging to get stuck into Mal Ericson…uhh I mean Play! Mal’s been teasing us for a while and we were so ready for him and he DID NOT disappoint.

“Whatever you’re imagining, it’s bigger.”

“I’m not imagining anything.”

“I’m serious. It’s basically a monster. I cannot control it.”

“Malcolm -”

“You’re pretty much going to need a whip and a chair to tame it, Anne.”

“Stop it.”

“That okay with you?”

This dude is without doubt one of the funniest blokes; his wit is sharp and quick, his banter and dialogue hilarious. I laughed out loud so many times my jaw ached. Mal Ericson is like a child a times, manic even, a filthy talker and a dirty humoured comedian. He left me completely shattered and reminded me of the Energizer Bunny.

“You know, you can be kind of intense sometimes, Malcolm Ericson.”

Not only that though, he’s gorgeous, he plays the drums like a demon and he’s sexy as!! For me, this story was all Mal, he is what kept me reading and unable to put Play down. The writing and humour was brilliant too, I want to take Kylie Scott down the pub and listen to her all night as we get bladdered because this woman ROCKS!!!

Jenny: Nice save there Gitte!! It seems like forever ago when we got our first glimpse of Mel in Lick (Sage Dive #1) and we’ve been dying to know more about this cheeky, sexy and very, very amusing man in greater detail and he most certainly did not disappoint.  His antics and his brain farts regularly had me smiling throughout Play and his manic exuberance, his naughtiness, playfulness and  his sheer childlike qualities constantly had me in fits. OMG! Those text messages…he was such a man-child with a touch of ADD – he cracked me up repeatedly and yes, I absolutely LOVED him!

“I’m the drummer from Stage Dive.I don’t get kept awake by other people having wild sex. I keep them awake. I keep entire fucking neighbourhoods awake.”

I have to agree with you about Mal ‘being’ the story because that’s exactly how I felt too. He was such a fun, funny and imposing character that I found myself eagerly flipping the page awaiting the next Mal’ism. He really did try to be the romantic and although he didn’t quite pull it off you had to give him A for effort and to be honest, he would have won me over regardless!

‘He played with abandon and he looked like a God.’ – Anne

Oh geez yes! Wouldn’t you just love to share a tipple or two with Kylie Scott because anyone who can produce a character like Mal has to be a bit off the wall, funny and our type of person haha!

Gitte: For me, what was lacking in the story Mal Ericson made up for, as did the snippets we got with the much loved characters from Lick namely David and Ev. I loved when the whole crowd was together. Sadly though, the story line and development was just okay for me. The build-up was too long where nothing really happened resulting in the conflict and crux of the story being over way too quickly. It didn’t quite work for me as for so long nothing really happened except for funny banter; it didn’t seem as if we were getting anywhere really. I also found the sweet and unsure Anne hard work to begin with, though she did have me smiling at times and she grew on me as the story built. However, despite these concerns, the class writing and the humour had me reading Play in one sitting and Mal and Anne did turn out to be perfectly perfect together. I swooned!!!!

“It’s fate, Anne. Written in the stars. Leave it the fuck alone.”

Jenny:  I must admit Gitte, I did get quite a way along into Play when I found myself questioning just what the story was.  Don’t get me wrong, I was enjoying it, or I should I say, I was enjoying Mal…how could I not? But I did wonder where it was leading and although I was having fun and my stomach was in knots waiting for the “other shoe to drop” I did feel the build-up lasted a little too long.  When we finally did reach the climax it seemed to be over a little too quickly for me as I was really settling in and knuckling down for some gritty “afters” at that point.

Meeting up with David, Ev and all the guys was absolute magic. Ev and David certainly have my heart and yes, the banter between them all was so much fun and I embraced the times they bonded and even the times they fought, as a unit. These guys really do have unique relationships that transcend so well in Play and have you wanting to know more!  Like you, I did find Anne a little bland at first but she shone when she started finding the girl inside and standing up for herself as she began to understand Mal on another level.

“Word to the wise, next time when it comes to us, try talking to me instead of Davie.” – Anne

I was fist bumping her big time when she started to speak her mind. But one thing Anne….who is John Bonham?  Really?  Shame on you woman!!

Gitte & Jenny: So whilst we enjoyed Play, specifically Mal Ericson we didn’t fall in love like we did in Lick. It was missing something for us. The emphasis was on Mal and yes, we admit he is what had us inhaling this story and kept us entertained throughout.  This crazy arsed drummer with a wicked streak and a blinding sense of humour had us in stitches and falling in love with his character all over again. Malcolm Ericson; you give us ‘Crazy eyes’!!

“I’m your boyfriend now, which means there’s no room for your hipster admirer. He’ll just have to lick his wounds while we lick other things.” – Mal

We love this Author and her writing; especially her stellar ability of injecting timeless humour and creating some amazingly endearing and off the wall characters, so no question we’re now gagging for the next book in this series. Excuse us while we go swoon some more over our fave drummer; Malcolm Ericson.

“Hello, Anne’s clitoris. It’s me, Malcom, your lord and master.”

“Oh, God, no.” I covered my face with my hands. “Please don’t.”

“Shh. This is a private conversation.”

We love those Stage Dive guys, we love this author’s work and we can’t wait for more!! Jimmy’s book promises to be something else!

LICK (Stage Dive #1) by KYLIE SCOTT

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favourite son is sure to be a wild ride.

Reviewed by Jenny & Gitte

Jenny:  First thing I have to say is…I bloody loved this book Gitte!  I didn’t come up for air until I finished and I really can’t stop gushing about Lick! It encapsulated everything I love about reading… Escaping. Immersing. Enjoying. Relishing. Loving.

Evelyn and David’s story was told with humour, emotion, passion, heat (holy hell, was there heat – still fanning self here!), lots of fun and a whole lot of feeling. It really did have it all. Add hot rock star David Ferris into the mix, not to mention a heroine who is so real and wonderful, who never once grated on my nerves, and well…is it any wonder Lick was an absolute winner for me.  What about you Gitte?

Gitte: Oh did I ever Jenny….I LOVED this book!!! I read it in one sitting and was loathed to put it down for the interruption of real life.  It was fan-bloody-tastic. It was different, completely real and believable as well as passionate and emotional. It was intense and intriguing too. Hmmm I don’t think I have enough words….I’ve run out.  So I’ll just say it’s a must buy and read NOW kind of book! You will NOT regret adding this one to your tbr…..

Jenny: You’re spot on there Gitte!  There really aren’t enough words to describe how much we both loved this one! So, you’re in Vegas with your bestie, only to wake up the next morning with a rock the size of Texas on your finger,  and discover you’re now married to one of rocks hottest properties.

“Did you somehow happen to get married while we were away?”

What do you do when you’re suddenly thrust into the limelight and every part of your life is up for public scrutiny and to make matters worse, you have no recollection of how you got there or what exactly went on the night before? Even more confusing is the realisation that your husband may remember everything. Well, that’s the premise of this story but to put it as simply as that would be doing Lick an injustice because this book was so much more!

What would you do?  Well, to Evelyn the first thought is annulment and together Ev and David set out to do just that.  However, somewhere along the way they feel a connection and surmise that maybe, just maybe, they could make something of this marriage and both decide to give it a shot. But being together isn’t going to be easy.  Can two virtual strangers learn about each other’s needs, wants and insecurities, test each others resolve and make a marriage work?

“You don’t want me to lie and say everything’s always fucking unicorns and rainbows, do you?”

It certainly does make for some entertaining, interesting, engaging and emotional reading.  Not to mention the freaking heat factor was off the charts. Ev and David certainly hit it up a notch in the sexual chemistry stakes and they had passion by the truckload! These two may just be my new favourite rock star couple! I adored them both!  What about you Gitte? Did you just adore these two?

Gitte: I seriously loved how this story started and how it played out. It was so unique, the whole concept, the setting and how it was written. It was brilliant, the characters were so well written too and Evelyn is one of those rare heroines that I loved and connected with so much. At no point did she annoy me, frustrate me or ‘pee’ me off. I thought she was funny, sweet and her emotions and reactions were so real.

The lifestyle she’s thrown into is so far removed from anything she knows so to see her character develop and grow after that one drunken crazy night in Vegas made for addictive reading. Oh and how many of us would love this dilemma…do you stay married to a gorgous talented and famous rock star or not despite him being a virtual stranger? Well Ev’s best mate Lauren has a very strong opinion as one of the bands biggest fans:

“Whatever happens, do not break up the band!!!”

I was confused and right there with Evelyn, thinking ‘what the….. ?‘ I think I would’ve stayed though…I mean wow David, hmmm yeah maybe I’d have been a bit sceptical too if I had no memory whatsoever of my wedding day and night. But no doubt, new book boyfriend alert indeed!! YES, Ev and David are on top of that rock star pedestal right now as #1 no question. Loved them.

“Let me get this straight, you don’t remember anything?”David

“No….What did we do last night?” Evelyn

“We got fucking married.” David

David married Ev fully aware of what was happening. I loved the emotion of the commitment and his feelings from that one night in Vegas. This guy is a Rock God and all the stereotypical things that go hand in hand with this status. Yet underneath, there’s that appealing vulnerability and uncertainty that just pulls at your heart. Our Ev saw that and the fact that she is a rational down to earth, no nonsense girl, she sees and understands him and calls a spade a spade. So refreshingly addictive I just loved their relationship and how they had that one night and worked to make it real and mean something….something they would both remember!

“No he said….It’s not fair that I remember and you don’t Evelyn.” – David

“I’d hate you for forgetting all this when it’s meant everything to me.” – Ev

Evelyn is drawn to David…the man not the rock star. She’s not overly interested or impressed with the fame and the crazy world that leaves her feeling slightly insecure and helpless.

“I hated him and I loved him. There didn’t seem to be any difference.”Ev

It’s the insanely strong connection and attraction to David that this ‘normal’ girl can’t get over.

“You asked me this morning in the car if I thought you were scary. The answer is yes. You scare me shitless. I don’t know what I’m doing here. But I hate the thought of leaving you.” Ev

This story had everything. It made me laugh, sigh with the sweet and passionate romance and oh so many tender moments. My emotions were all over the place throughout this crazy addictive journey! Love this book….Love this Author!!

“We’ll both screw up, Ev. That’s a given. We just gotta be patient with each other.” – David

“What I am is the luckiest fucking girl in the world.” – Ev

Jenny:  Practically every character in this book endeared themselves to me in some way and I can’t wait to hear more about the secondary characters in future books, but let me tell you about David Ferris.  David Ferris…..sigh……he’s most definitely been added to the book boyfriend shelf….front and centre at that!

“There wasn’t enough room in me for all the feelings he inspired.”

This guy was the whole package. Yeah sure, he’s the famous, hot as hell, tattooed guitarist/songwriter for Stage Dive but there was so much more to him.  David, the man was warm, passionate, sensitive, admitted his faults and well, I just loved him! David wasn’t just hot, this man had substance. He may have had issues, trust being a big one, but he owned them and he dealt with them.

“Do you trust me?”
“I’m getting there Ev. Just…..give me time.”

To David, Ev is a like balm to his soul. She is never afraid to speak her mind, says it like it is, wears her heart on her sleeve and lets David know exactly where she’s at and to David ,this woman is a revelation.

“Yes”. He said simply. “I like you the way you are, blurting out whatever shit crosses your mind. Not trying to play me, or use me. You’re just…..being with me…….”

Evelyn has issues she has carried from her past and to me David felt like her missing piece.  As if they were two pieces that, together, made a whole. I loved their barbs, I loved how Evelyn was never intimidated by David or his status and I loved how, despite their differences and the situation they found themselves in, they were able to give each other strength.

Ev was tenacious and I loved her spirit, heart and wit. Everything about her was so normal, so real and I absolutely adored her.

“My eyes, my mouth, breasts: he couldn’t seem to decide what fascinated him the most.”

This book stole my heart.  The actions and reactions of the characters felt natural, they never felt forced, and the way the author delivered this story was so refreshing. Yes, I completely devoured every word.

“Can you feel what we’re doing here? We’re building something.”

Kylie Scott didn’t just tell me a story.  She put me IN the story and that’s just about the best experience any passionate reader can have!   Lick was everything I could have hoped for and more. It had it all. Romance, drama, angst, humour, emotion and….in case I didn’t mention….HEAT 😉  Cancel all plans and order takeaway, because I’ll tell you now, once you start Lick, you won’t be able to put it down!  I know I couldn’t! I loved it. I need more!!!
