J&G: 4 Dark and twisted stars
*Caution: This review contains excessive swearing*
Gitte: Well…huh, what to say Jenny? This was certainly an experience. A dark, violent, ugly and horrifying experience. Granted, it’s not the darkest story I’ve read, but it comes real close, like really really close. I’m actually at a loss on how to review this story. The writing was excellent, though I did have an issue with a term the master used to refer to his slave as it’s generally coined as a term of endearment, which this guy most definitely did not intend for it to be. This Master is ruthless, he’s evil, he’s fucked in the head, this whole story is fucked…I have to wonder where the hell this story came from.
‘She was a tool for my sick fascination – a victim of my sadism and a vessel opening to accept every decadent drop of pain and fear I was willing to grant her.. She would thank me when I finished…’ – Master Aiden
We experience violence through torture, rape, and pure evil in a story that has no real story. Sound confusing? Well, welcome to my thoughts, because they’re extremely confused. One minute I’m feeling sorry for people but by the end I actually didn’t like anyone and thought you guys are all welcome to each other you vile and horrible people. I felt like I’d run a marathon in high spiky heels. I was tired and my whole body hurt. The path this story took suddenly shocked me to the core and trying to rationalise it made me question myself and what I would do under these circumstances.
‘The first thing you need to accept is that you are now owned. For now, I am your Master. I give orders – you follow them. It’s a simple formula that will keep you alive.’ – Master Aiden
So, did I enjoy Her Master’s Courtesan? Well, I thought it was very well written, so well that I could picture everything and no matter how much I wanted to put it down I couldn’t. It freaked me out sure, but I do love my dark reads, I find them intriguing and thought provoking. Did I find the sex hot? No, not at all, and I enjoy my BDSM stories. However, the circumstances wouldn’t allow me in this story. For me there was nothing sexy or erotic about it, rather it was the psychology of this story that interested me and is exactly what kept me reading and for that I suppose I enjoyed it.
‘Fear was such a beautiful scent on the body of a woman – musky and raw – a flavour I would always endeavour to experience.’ – Master Aiden
Master Aiden feels nothing, the man is emotionless except when it comes to his cock, his power trip and his bank balance. He has no heart and needs a trip down the yellow brick road to see the wizard. He trains women into what is effectively a ‘stripped of self-identity’ slave, yeah dude you can dress these poor souls up by calling them courtesans but they are what they are. He was vile! Except when he kisses….figure that one out.
‘The mind is a delicate thing that needs to be handled carefully in order to keep it intact to retrain it.’ – Master Aiden
As for Rebecca, she had me in tears, then she went on a road of self-discovery whilst in captivity and it took her in a direction I was not expecting thus confusing the hell out of how I felt about her and my own thoughts.
‘If I could get him to love me – I stood a chance that he would choose to keep me.’ – Rebecca
Jenny, I don’t know what I felt really…you had the same problem didn’t you?
Jenny: Gitte, I’m sat here staring at this page trying to put my thoughts down on paper and I’m finding it difficult to get my thought process in gear after finishing Her Master’s Courtesan. This book was possibly THE darkest and most twisted read I’ve sat through. It had me questioning my rationale and wondering where the hell this story was going to go and yes…where the hell did it come from? I kept eagerly awaiting the reprieve that never came. I was on the edge of my seat and constantly horrified by the scenes unfolding in front of me and completely emotionally drained by the end.
“You should know that I adore the taste of a woman’s tears. Keep crying, it only pleases me more.” – Aiden
As you said, it was the psychology and the way the author presented this story that had me riveted. I kept needing to walk away and take a moment, but soon found myself heading straight back in for more torture and torment at the hands of some wickedly deviant and awful people.
Told through alternative POV’s from Rebecca and Aiden which definitely added to the intensity of the story. Through Rebecca we are privy to the fear, humiliation, hurt and pain she experiences at the hands of Aiden, leaving me numb and clutching my heart at her predicament and sharing her shame as her body responds to the demands placed upon her despite her mind feeling the opposite. Then there were times her actions would leave me shocked and feeling revulsion towards her, but then I would ask myself what would I do if I were in her shoes? It’s an interesting thought and one that really does have you questioning her reasoning and your own in the process.
‘She hated me for what I was making her do and soon, she would hate herself for allowing me to do it.’ – Aiden
Aiden was something else and I don’t mean that in a good way! He’s extremely wealthy, well-educated and by his own admission, good looking and charming, using his face and body as a bait to lure unsuspecting women into his sick and twisted lair. This man was cruel, calculating, heartless and viewed woman as merely sexual objects to be used and abused for monetary and his personal deviant gain. This guy is definitely at the mercy of his cock, power and dollar signs and he makes NO apologies whatsoever. There was nothing redeeming about Aiden at all. I don’t believe he ever felt anything for Rebecca, though I do think he revered her in his own morally corrupt and twisted way.
‘He’d infected every fucking part of me – my heart, my mind, my body and my soul.’ – Rebecca
Like you G, I didn’t find the sex scenes hot and I certainly wasn’t fanning myself over them. It was more as if I read them with a sense of foreboding. Whilst you sense the absolute arousal and excitement between the characters during those scenes, I felt a form of detachment to them due to the nature in which they were carried out.
The author certainly did a stellar job keeping me turning the pages because there were many times I wanted to put this down and forget about it because I read it with a big knot in my gut and it was one fucked up read. Am I glad I read it? Hell yes! It tested me and had me feeling a barrage of emotions and I have to say….this definitely not one for the faint hearted.
G&J: We have to urge readers to proceed with caution if you’re not into dark graphically abusive reads. This is not your typical romance nor is it pretty, rather it humiliates and mentally destroys whilst you literally squirm in your seat reading.
“Your body is a tool. It is flesh and bone created for my touch and for the touch of those I allow around you. It is built for my pleasure and designed to give ME what I want despite your opinions on the matter.” – Aiden
We love our dark emotional reads and don’t scare or freak out easily. However, in this case the lack of any emotional aspect resulted in us struggling to understand certain aspects which consequently hindered, for want of a better word, our enjoyment. We leaned on each other for support through this read and think our texts consisted of “this is fucked up” most of the time. However, this book was gripping, gritty and addictive. We couldn’t put it down.
‘It’s instinct. Women want a strong man……so your bodies are designed to respond to a dominant man. You grow wet when we touch you: the muscles in your pussy clench and roll in anticipation of being filled.’ – Aiden.
We have to say we admire what this author brought to the table because Lily White could have easily given us a book that was predictable and apologetic, but she stayed true to her story and was unrelenting in telling it the way she wanted it told and for that we give her absolute kudos. So, if it’s a dark bit of mind fuckery you’re after…….pick this one up! It will definitely satisfy that dark corner of your soul. Now we’re off to pick up something light and fluffy!
