The other P Word cover

Suffering from a dark past, he lives his life with passion but no purpose. She planned everything…except him.

Billie Price has always had a plan for her life. On the surface, it all appears on track. But there has always been something missing. Even though she has a purpose, there is no passion to fuel it. Then she meets a mysterious stranger with a dark past. Except Evan Wright is all kinds of wrong—the tattoo-clad, guitar-strumming, Harley-riding modern day drifter is definitely not the right man for her. Yet she finds herself drawn to him and The Lost Souls’ Club—the eclectic bar where he works. As all her carefully strung plans unravel, Evan is there to comfort her. As their attraction grows, Billie can’t resist the temptation, even though Evan will leave in the fall. At least they have all summer together, not to mention the man knows how to narrate the perfect sex scene for the book she’s writing. But as she crashes into Evan’s world, Billie has to ask herself—can passion prevail when there is no purpose?

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of anal sex. Warning—this book contains one raunchy tattoo-clad musician who can rock his tongue as well as a guitar!

Publisher Note: This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone novel, as can any of the books in the In Other Words Series.

✯✯✯✯✯  5 “distract-a-licious’ Stars

“Will you come?”
“I’ll follow you wherever you need to go.”
“Even in the dark?”
“Especially there.”

Catching up with these characters again was like being wrapped in a nice warm blanket. They’re familiar, warm and feel so much a part of me after I’ve followed them through their hurt, pain, hopes, dreams and loves. There’s so much to love about this series. The storytelling is beautifully delivered, the warmth of the characters envelopes me, the banter and hilarious innuendos have me in fits of giggles and the love, honesty, fun and closeness between this extended family never fails to captivate me. Love surrounds and abounds and each one has stolen a piece of my heart – from the cringing moments of honesty to the heartfelt moments of love, I’m right there with them.  Yep, I LOVED The Other P Word!!!

“You make me forget the world.”
“And you make me happy I’m in it.”

I was looking forward to Billie’s story as she’s always been a presence in the previous In Other Words books.  I have to say, the person I’d previously pegged as her love interest wasn’t who I expected and to be honest, I couldn’t be happier because Evan Wright was so right for Billie!  OMG! I flippin’ well ADORED Evan even if there were a couple of times I felt the urge to slap him upside the head, but in the long run I understood his fear of commitment and the wanderlust that consumed him. This soulful free spirited musician with the heartbreaking, painfully tragic past owned me heart and soul. Actually, I think he had me when he sang About a Girl…sigh….Did I mention how this author beautifully weaves the theme of music through her stories to the point where the music almost becomes another character?  Yet another reason why I cherish these books.

“Why don’t you school me, Price? What is love?”
“It’s sacrificing for someone else, but they won’t let you because they feel the same way.”

Billie Price is such a happy go lucky girl. You can’t help but warm to her. She really is like sunshine on a cloudy day (yeah I stole a line) she believes in the romance of love and is in the process of penning a romance novel but without experiencing the burning passion required for some of the scenes, her book isn’t coming to fruition as it lacks the searing heat and emotion required for some scenes.

Billie believes in soul piercing love and isn’t into one casual relationships, however a meeting with Evan changes that when they embark on friends with very hot benefits arrangement. Their relationship has an expiration date though with Evan planning to leave after summer to go on tour with a band. Boo Evan!

“Don’t let your head get in the way of what we have, Price. Because in my head, it’s only you that’s taking up all the space.”

How can Billie resist this irresistible man? I know I couldn’t! He was DIVINE! Evan is the perfect solution  to Billie’s lack of passion and so she agrees…but can her heart stay out of the equation? Can she convince Evan to change his plans? There were certainly some curveballs thrown in …… curse you MK for throwing in ‘that‘ twist! My poor heart!!  Yet on the other hand I felt as though my face was aching from the constant grin I wore reading this, there were so fabulous moment and oh gosh, those cute moments between Billie and Evan…be still my heart!

“Billie Marie Price. I aim to cuddle the fuck out of you.”

The heat was off the charts combustible but MK Schiller never allows those moments to overtake the essence of her story which is something I love. There is a story, there is heart and each character adds so much depth to each scene.

‘One thing was for sure…Evan Wright spoke fluent cunnilingus.’

There are some heavy issues dealt with in The Other P Word, however it’s perfectly balanced thanks to MK’s unique brand of emotion, sadness, humour, passion and heat. Somehow MK Schiller always manages to get the balance just right!I can be welling up one minute, giddily swooning the next, then giggling like crazy the next with the flick of a page and I love it! These stories always feel fresh, ensuring I’ll be back again and again to catch up with these gorgeous, off the wall and completely loveable characters! Yep, this was a real winner!

The Do Over

Jenny✯✯✯✯ Stars

“Lanie. You. Are. Beautiful.”

I just adore a friends to lovers story and The Do Over answered my want as it swept me up in it’s  sweetness, wit, emotion, warmth, romance, humour and heat, leaving me with that warm book glow…..sigh……

“Miss Lanie, my shoulder will always be at your service. I wear your tears like a badge of honor.”

We meet Kyle agrees to meet Lanie on a blind date. It’s something Kyle does under sufferance as favour to his friend Brad who is dating Lanie’s sister, Cassie (who is absolutely horrid by the way!)

Kyle is a man whore and his idea of a date is a night of uncommitted sex, then showing the woman the door.  One meeting with the dowdy and very serious Lanie has Kyle perplexed yet by the end of the night he begins to think there is more to this woman than meets the layers and layers of clothing she’s hiding beneath.

‘Had Brad set him up with a frumpy, stalker lush?’

Lanie may appear a bit of a pushover but this girl had sass and determination who possessed the ability to give Kyle back as good as she got in the witty banter stakes and Kyle relished the verbal stashes between them. Not only that but she’s a fellow Bears fan. Helllooo, instant friendship!

Lanie and Kyle embark on a friends with sex agreement with each of them benefitting from the deal. Lanie will get Brad, who she has loved from afar and Kyle will have the opportunity to report on a story that will surely net him the Pulitzer Prize. Sounds like a good deal right? Nothing could go wrong, right?

“You’re definitely not the hero in my story.”
“I’m not the hero in anyone’s story.”

As Kyle opens Lanie up to a whole world of passion and shows her there’s more to life than work, we get to witness the friendship and personalities of both characters as they evolve.

“I need to be Kyle Manchester-ed real bad.”

Both Lanie and Kyle are damaged characters, dealing with past issues that affect them emotionally and theirs was a friendship to love that never felt rushed or forced and revelled in watching their relationship develop at its own pace.

‘She was more than pretty or beautiful or sexy. Lanie Carmichael was breathtaking.’

I adored this story and found myself barracking for Lanie every step of the way as she had to deal with her awful mother and sister and enjoyed watching her gain a confidence and zest as she comes into her own.

Whilst it could sometimes be a little predictable and it didn’t give me the complete satisfaction as The Other C Word and The Other F Word, The Do Over was a heartwarming and endearingly sweet escape with some characters who charmed their way into my heart and I enjoyed it immensely. If you haven’t read any of this authors work, I’d definitely recommend checking out her books. Your romantic heart will thank you!

THE OTHER F WORD (In Other Words #2) by M K SCHILLER

the other f word

This is book two in the In Other Words series.

Damien Wolfe is ferociously sexy. Emmie Mason is fastidiously stubborn. When fate brings them together, they are both challenged by the other F-word…forever.

Fashionable forty-four-year-old, Emmie Mason is content with her fastidious life. She has everything she needs in her loving family and friends. Her eldest daughter, Marley, has married the man of her dreams, and she has a new grandchild. What more could a woman ask for?

She isn’t prepared for fate to slap her in the face in the form of a bridal bouquet. Or worse, to run into the fantasy-inducing, eye-catching, panty-dropping, swoon-worthy man she’s been thinking about for over a year, even though they only danced together once.

As it turns out, thirty-year-old real estate mogul Damien Wolfe has been thinking about her too. Damien’s flirty, funny and forthright personality challenges Emmie and tilts her world. But it’s his kind soul and compassionate demeanor that really frighten her.

He’s easy to fall for, but how could she ever recover if she risked her heart to him? Can they both overcome their fears and commit to that other F-word…Forever?

“Having you is enough. Having you is the only thing I need.” – Damien

The Other F Word was Flirty, funny, feeling, fulfilling and fab-u-lous! I’ve been dying for more of this series since falling in love with these characters in The Other C Word. I particularly love how this author takes sensitive subjects and injects light-heartedness into her stories. One minute you’re laughing with her characters, the next minute your welling up with them. In The Other F Word, MK Schiller once again serves up a big dose of heart, plenty of swooning, lots of giggles and a very high steam factor! This series will be a 1click for me with every book.

I’ve missed the warm and whacky Mason family and the extended Masons and once again reveled in joining them around the dinner table to partake in some friendly banter, sarky wit and the hilarious innuendos that MK produces so flawlessly. Seriously, how do I always manage to giggle at the “pussy” comments. Does me every time! MK Schillers portrayal of this family is absolutely wonderful and her writing draws me in from the start.

Emmie Mason has selflessly and singlehandedly raised 3 beautiful daughters and each is a credit to her. What they lacked materially growing up, Emmie more than made up for with love, understanding and instilling in her daughters the importance of who being who they are. Music and humour plays a big part of their lives and I especially love how MK Schiller weaves this into her stories. We learnt Marley’s (Emmie’s daughters) story in book one and the guilt Emmie feels in regards Marley still eats away at her as Emmie faces life on her own for the first time.

“It’s because you’re my everything. I know the sacrifices you made for me and the guilt you carry in your heart. I want you to stop.” – Marley

Now with all her children flying the coop, forty four year old Emmie finds herself looking to sell the large family home which is a bittersweet decision as she looks forward to the next phase of her life, yet leaving behind a place where so many beautiful memories were made and built, and good times were shared is difficult for her.

Emmie doesn’t have any plans beyond selling her house, but one thing she didn’t envisage was one divine, single, ridiculously sexy, gorgeous 30 year old Mr Damien Wolfe……*insert a very heavy sigh here*….. entering her life at this time.

” A man like Damien Wolfe is as dangerous as meth – highly addictive and devastating.” – Emmie

Wow! I was seriously in love with this man. His humour, his kindness, his possessiveness, his hotness…. and the way he treated Emmie….yep, I was completely smitten!

Even though I understood Emmie’s reluctance due to the age difference, I have to say her indecisiveness frustrated me at times. Still, she wasn’t going to phase Damien with her worries, all he saw was a sexy, warm and beautiful woman  and the near 15 year age difference between him and flirty, sexy Emmie didn’t appear to be an issue.

“Sure there would be pros to having a relationship with an older woman……….”We’d probably get discounts on meals…but then again, we’d have to eat dinner at four o’clock. ” – Damien

I really did Emmie and Damien’s story and they certainly managed to shred my heart a time or two throughout.  Damien’s past, when revealed was gut wrenching. You wonder if these two make it through. After all, the heart may know what the heart wants, but is that always enough? I loved the Other F Word. I laughed with her characters and I cried with them with them, and was I completely engrossed every step of the way.

“You don’t have any scars.” – Emmie
“They exist. They’re just not visible. You make them better. You heal me……” – Damien

On a side note: I almost want to give a star just for the music choice! Seriously… had me at The White Stripes, Rodriguez and Pink Floyd! I was in my element!  Not to mention the visual of Mr Wolfe getting all hot and sweaty to Seven Nations Army while fixing the water heater in his painting jeans….oh dear lord……………….

I’d definitely recommend adding this series to your TBR’s. I can’t wait for book three and I really, really hope it’s Billie’s story and that Derek is included in there somewhere! 😉

THE OTHER C-WORD (In Other Words #1) by M.K. SCHILLER

the other c word

Can she overcome her consuming desire for him? Can he make her comfortable with the other C-word…commitment?

Marley Mason is dreading the arrival of the new business consultant. After all, this man will most likely outsource her job to China. The last thing she would expect is a case of mistaken identity, leading to false accusations of kidnapping when she attempts to pick up the wrong man at the airport, or worse…that she would have such a visceral reaction to the right man.

Rick Randy is super sexy, scandalously flirty and perfect masturbation material, but a relationship is out of the question. Rick is contracted on a temporary basis to fix Marley’s ailing company, then pull out, although as he expresses to Marley, pulling out is difficult for him, in more ways than one! Marley’s feelings range from utter confusion to intense contemplation as Rick charms his way into her life. All of those C-words Marley can control, but it’s the other C-word she fears—commitment.

the other c word

Reviewed by Jenny

I read The Other C Word in one sitting and after much laughter, tears and serious swooning, Rick, Marley and Marley’s crazy and lovable family well and truly had me under their spell.

What started out as such a fun and funny read, soon became one of heartbreak, pain and healing. This really was a tale of two books.

The innuendos, the cheeky flirting, the double- entendre’s which introduced this book certainly had the makings of a fun, frivolous and entertaining escape and there were times I really did laugh out loud. My husband thought I’d gone nuts (nothing new there!) The airport scene had me in stitches and this book had, hands down, some of the funniest sexually tense scenes I’ve ever read. Loved it!

“Your eyes are distracting.” – Marley
He grinned. “I kind of need them” Rick

When Marley heads off to the airport to pick up a Consultant who has been brought in to revitalise the ailing company she works for, little did commitment phobe Marley realise what was in store for her the day her paths would cross with the divine Mr Richard Randy.

“Maybe I could somehow alleviate the danger by inviting him into my fantasies – the ones I had at night when I was alone with my vibrator. I would have to drop one of my other regulars though to fit him in.” – Marley

Mr Richard Randy (no…he doesn’t moonlight as a porn star!) makes quite the impression on Marley, as does Marley on him….though I’m pretty sure, as entertaining and hysterical as her first impression was on Rick, I think it’s one she’d rather forget.

The idealistic, successful, charming and oooooh so gorgeous Mr Randy and the funny, sexy and commitment shy Marley have an instant flirty attraction with sexual chemistry off the charts that will have you fanning yourself and giggling in equal measures.  Marley doesn’t do relationships.  Richard doesn’t do one night stands. Hmmm how do they approach this when it’s very obvious the air is tangible with sexual chemistry between the two.

‘Sex was real – tangible, visceral and primitive. Love was mystical, elusive, vague and obscure. Sex was atmospheric, but love was ethereal. I chose sex every time.’ Marley

As Richard is only in town for a short time and Marley doesn’t want a relationships they decide to compromise and see where this intense passion they feel for one another will take them, but each has rules. For Marley, her rules are simple.  Well, simple to her anyways.
No dinners, no dating, no personal questions and the most important one of all……she will never spend the night with him.  Easy enough right? Hmmm well, maybe.

I silently cursed Rick for turning me on so much with a simple word. Not even a smutty word, but a scientifically correct word.  How did he do that? I f I said fellatio, would it turn him on?’ Marley

For Richard, he only has one and it’s non negotiable. Rick will agree to her terms on one condition.  Marley must agree to exclusivity for the whole time they are together.  This means Marley must give up the 3 guys she has been seeing for casual hook-ups.  Marley must be exclusively his and visa versa.  Once again, easy enough right?

“Marley, there are a lot of men who can make you feel good for an hour, or a night, or a week. There’s very few that can make you feel cherished all the time.  – Rick

Both agree and so sets the scene for some very funny tense, sexually frustrated times and some very, very hot times between the sheets, on the couch, the balcony, the shower, the floor….well, you get my drift. These two really did steam things up!

“Don’t worry about me, cowboy. I’ve been doing Kegels and eating lots of carrots this week.” – Marley

Now I was intrigued by Marley’s rules. I wondered why she instigated them and as the story progressed, the reader, along with Rick, would soon unravel the mystery surrounding the thought process of this sharp, witty, sexy, gorgeous girl and what we found out saddened me and broke my heart.

“…..he had the uncanny ability to look straight through me to the deepest, darkest places that I’d never revealed to anyone.’ Marley

I didn’t see a lot of it coming and when it did come it kind of knocked me for six. It was indeed sad, but it was dealt with in a beautifully sensitive manner and one that really did make me feel so much for Marley….and Rick for that matter.

“You like to help broken things. That’s your job isn’t it? To swoop in and fix what doesn’t work.. I’m not fucking broken’. – Marley

The Other C Word was such an all-round captivating, humerous and endearing read. It made me laugh out loud at times, it was punctuated with heartbreak here and there, it had some of the warmest, kookiest and lovable characters you could ever come across and I was enamored with them all..  I loved Emmy, Marley’s mother and her vague wonderful personality, and I adored the unique way she had of weaving music into the lives of her children.  The music!!! Wow! What a fantastic array of music we got to enjoy throughout this story! I know I was constantly updating my playlist! Loved it!

“My mom was not an innocent. She was a child of the sixties. Unfortunately, she wasn’t born until the seventies….’

I loved Marley’s best friend Dillon for his loyalty and his quirkiness, the hilariously warm interactions between Marley and her sisters, Stevie and Billie stole my heart, and I loved the input of Adam, Stevie’s fiancé. Each was so relatable, so witty and oh so wonderful. They never judged Marley – they loved her implicitly and this family unit was so tight and so strong, you couldn’t help but experience the bond between them.

The Other C Word is about not letting you past define you. It’s about facing your fears, dealing with them, trusting in your heart and letting love in.  It shows us the importance of surrounding ourselves with the the ones who will love us unconditionally and reaching out for help when it’s needed. In life we need to feel the pain, see the ugly, experience the worst, to enable us to move on, see the beauty and enjoy the best life has to offer.

….we all need tragedy in our lives.”
“Why do you think we need tragedy?”

“Because it makes us the people we are. It makes us more real. You can’t experience the power of healing if you’ve never been broken, right?”

Beautiful words and so true. There was couple instances where seemed to drag a smidgen yet the ending felt a little rushed and I would have preferred to have ‘experienced’ some of the final scenes rather than be told about them after the effect, but these were very minor issues in what was a truly enjoyable, beautiful, fun read that I didn’t want to end! Every character in this story deserves their own book and I hope they get it.  Loved it!  A definite “must add” to those TBR’s!
