KEPT FROM YOU (Tear Asunder #4) by NASHODA ROSE :: REVIEW

Standalone in series, sexy second chance romance
NB:  This book can be read as a standalone but has interconnecting stories and characters- we highly recommend reading the series in order.

SYNOPSIS

A first kiss that changed everything.

Killian Kane.
He was the most feared guy in high-school.
Guarded. Angry. A fighter.
But when I caught him watching me with his captivating green eyes I saw something more. Something protective and kind.

He warned me to stay away from him.
I did.
Until I didn’t and he kissed me. A knee weakening, body tingling kiss that left me breathless.
And scared the hell out of me.

And then…
He warned me never to come near him again or next time he wouldn’t let me go.

That was eleven years ago.
We aren’t teenagers anymore. He has probably forgotten me.
He’s a famous rock star now. I’m a dance instructor with a broken dream and desperate for a job.
So, when we cross paths again I don’t expect him to remember me.
He does.
And his warning eleven years ago? I’m about to find out exactly what that meant.

4.5  ‘ the good bits’ Stars

“Fight for me, damn it. Stop fighting everything else and fight for me. For us”

Nashoda Rose has done it again! We’ve We’ve loved everything we’ve read from this talented author and after finishing Kept from You, we’re convinced this is one of our favourite series. There’s suspense, grit, passion, emotion and alpha goodness galore, not to mention pierced tattooed rock stars…yummy!  What’s not to love…oh and this was bloody hot! And sweet! And a little intense!

We’ve been with the Tear Asunder guys’ right from the beginning. We’ve shared their difficult and painful pasts, we’ve shared their love and happiness as they each meet their soul mate, their missing piece. This group of rag tag rock stars prove family isn’t the blood that runs through your veins, but the loyalty, trust and love that runs through your hearts. They’ve been through so much and there’s nothing they wouldn’t do for each other.

“…Nothing wins against love. It wins every single fuckin’ time.”

We’ve been desperate for Killian ‘Kite’ Kane’s story, the drummer from Tear Asunder in what seems forever and finally, the gorgeous guy with the Irish lilt shared his painful story with us. Killian grew up quite privileged and was loved deeply by his Mum and brother. His father however was a different story. This man openly detested Killian, making his life miserable. Due to circumstances we later learn about through Killian’s POV, Killian has become an angry young man, needing to fight to relieve himself of the pent up guilt he carries with him.

We first meet Killian and Savvy when he is 16 and she is 15. Savvy (Savannah) feels drawn to Killian and believes there is a lot of ‘good bits’ beneath the anguish this young man elicits. Killian, in turn is drawn to Savvy’s innocence and sweetness, savouring the goodness that surrounds her.

‘Her goodness was my fuckin’ drug, drawing me to her. ‘

They part ways soon after, with Killian unleashing a first kiss on Savvy that really would change everything. For both of them.  We flash forward 11 years in Toronto, with Killian enjoying success with his band, and Savvy down on her luck, seeking out Killian for a favour. Old feelings are unleashed with Killian not wanting the girl who always had a place in his heart to slip through his fingers. And that’s where the story begins.

‘I had my issues and she’d had a taste of them, and I knew I’d have to give her more of me. The parts of me I kept hidden.’

Whilst Kept from You didn’t quite pack the intensity and grittiness of the previous books, Killian and Savvy’s story was no less emotional, no less painful. We adored these characters and upon learning the full extent of Killian’s sacrifice and feelings for Savvy over the ‘lost’ years, our hearts damn near burst from our chests and we applauded Nashoda Rose for taking this turn with him.

‘I realized that the anger he carried with him ate away all his beauty. ‘

We do love a second chance love story and this one certainly fit the bill. Killian is all sorts of kinky alpha possessive yummy, yet he’s sweet, vulnerable and romantic as well. Not to mention sexy as sin for good measure! Savvy was a sharp, witty relatable character. Whilst this can be read as a standalone, we would strongly recommend reading the series to fully grasp and experience the bond between these men, the relationships of which we feel are the glue that holds this series together.

“You were always meant to be mine, Savvy.”

Perfect Rage

Reviewed by Gitte & Jenny

“Do you know what it’s like to be afraid to fall asleep because of nightmares, but they aren’t nightmares. They are real things I’ve done and I have to wake up again and live with that. But far worse is the constant fear of waking up with no memories at all. Forgetting her.”

Nashoda Rose is one of the most brilliant and vivid storytellers out there. Her attention to detail is flawless and her timelines across her two series is spot on. Her heart and love for her characters and the ever developing story lines are clearly evident and it transfers over to the reader, without question. We have been with these characters since day one and never has one been compromised nor has the story suffered, Nashoda Rose stays true to both and it was a pure joy to once more read such an amazing instalment.

‘I’d needed to feel the pain of losing him over and over again. It was my reminder of him. It kept him alive within me. Our time had been a mere breath in the wind, but I’d left with a lifetime of love.’

We’ve been so excited yet apprehensive to start Perfect Rage; after all this is Connor’s book. If you don’t know who Connor is we urge you to start from the very beginning then make your way through the series reading order. As we knew would probably happen our hearts bled then broke into tiny shattered pieces as we travel back in time and learn of how a doomed love affair began which was instant and intense yet believable under the circumstances. Two hearts becoming one only to be torn asunder by circumstances, violence, crime and tragedy. We almost held our breaths as we willed this love to conquer all.

‘We were. We are. And neither of us could change that.’

Connor is one of the most beautiful, fiercest, protective and tragic characters we’ve met. We cried for him as we prayed for his recovery. No man shall be left unmarked after evil. Yet through love, integrity and purity of soul comes healing. No woman can be left unscarred by tragedy yet through strength, friendship and love she will overcome and understand. Alina was wise beyond her years and stronger than she gave herself credit for. Connor and Alina’s love affair began only to be battered, tested and torn to pieces. How could the pieces ever be re-found, remembered and pieced together again? Memory is a deeply rooted part of us that can guide us and bring us hope and understanding. It brings us moments of light when everything is cloaked in darkness. If the light is gone how do we heal?

“I’m lost, baby. I’m so fuckin’ lost and you’re the only one to keep me from disintegrating.”

Nashoda Rose guided us through a journey of tears and joy, sacrifice and hope, friendship and loyalty. Our hearts slowly but surely knitted together again through perseverance, love and understanding. We loved being back with characters whose own journey we’d lived through as we once again felt the after-effects of utter evil and wickedness.

‘I’d never had sweet. Never had this undeniable swell in my chest or the fear of losing something.’

THIS is why we read, this is why we love this Author. This is why we are addicted. We feel her passion and her masterful grasp of the written word. Once again, Nashoda Rose reaffirms her place on that pedestal we regard her to be on when it comes to her books. Her characters are full of strength, protection, passion and ultimately love. We have embraced them all, as each has left a mark on us and stay in our hearts forever.

PERFECT RUIN (Unyielding #2) by NASHODA ROSE

We recommend reading The Tear Asunder Series AND Perfect Chaos before reading Perfect Ruin.
Characters and storylines are woven through all books and it is essential to learn the background on each character. Details and links below.

SYNOPSIS

Kai::

There is nothing I care about.

No attachments.

No connections.

Outwardly, I’m a perfect gentleman.

Until my target sees my knife.

I fear nothing, not even death.

In my world, death is considered a privilege.

But my life comes with unbreakable cruel strings and

when I met her, I should’ve walked away.

I didn’t.

I was too selfish.

And that sealed her fate.

Because one week with me led her into the hands of ruin.

 London::

We all have unique layers that make up who we are.

What makes us vulnerable or strong.

What we fear and what excites us.

But peel back those layers and you’re left naked and exposed.

They did that to me.

Each piece was slowly stripped away then burned.

I merely existed.

But there was one layer they overlooked.

The most important of them all—the tie to one man.

The man responsible for me being this way.

The man who found me.

And the killer who would do anything to protect me.

Perfect Ruin is the dark erotic story of Kai and London.

Their beginning.

And the continuing story of Vault.

✯✯✯✯✯ Heart pounding stars!

‘I’d hated him. Feared him. Desired him. Needed him. And loved him.’

Dark, gritty, evocative and passionate Nashoda Rose once again gives us a story that we just couldn’t put down. It was fast paced and thrilling. It had romance at the heart surrounded by violence and power and suspense. It had a cast of much loved characters trying to escape a horrific past and present – preventing a horrific future. Brilliantly written and flawless it was another top class addition to a series we love.

‘…that single moment changed the course of my life.’

We have to stress that this series must be read in order – we even needed to refresh our memory on certain aspects and we’ve read every book that went before. Some overlap and some situations and characters are intricately entwined; it’s easy to get lost. It’ll all become clear though and the amount of wow moments are really too many to count. The suspense was brilliantly written and we were on the edge of our reading chairs through the whole story.

‘Her choices had been taken away and she’d been trained to obey. Her survival had depended on being locked inside herself.’

She’d become nothing. Her freedom hadn’t freed her at all. It trapped her in a world she no longer knew how to survive in and she ran from it.’

London and Kai’s story was one of darkness and light. An innocent being brought into a horrifically ugly world through no fault of her own. Her life determined by circumstances beyond her control. Honestly, our hearts bled for this girl and broke at the violence

‘I liked him wrapped around me. I liked the feel of him. I liked him in bed with me. And I’d never felt so protected in my life. The irony was I had the feeling that Kai could very well destroy me.’

What we loved about Perfect Ruin is that our imaginations were left to roam and interpret. There were so many moments that could’ve been explained in gruesome detail, however, we were allowed to imagine as to what had transpired and been so traumatic. We actually loved this fact as sometimes that in itself is more haunting and shiver inducing.

‘You never stole or harmed the girl belonging to a cold ruthless killer.’

Be still our beating hearts – Kai. We knew his story was going to be bloody perfect; an emotionless violent and brutally trained killer who’d been conditioned to never form attachments. Fear grew to love as connections were formed, examined and explained. He was criminal yet heroic in many respects.

‘With London, I had no need to hide who I was. She was the lightness. She was the warmth that built inside me that had been destroyed.’

London brought out a side of Kai that he didn’t even know was in him or was capable of. In his own way this didn’t change him, he is who he is and we loved that.

“No more running. You’re going to have to be my braveheart in order to survive me.”

We don’t always have a say what happens to us in life and who ends up healing us is not always who we expect! Bring on Connor’s story; we are so ready!

“London, what we are can’t be explained with a word, only experienced.” Then I showed her.

“You. You’re my everything. You’re my always.”

SHATTERED BY YOU – TEAR ASUNDER #3 by NASHODA ROSE

Shattered by you

SYNOPSIS

I killed, but I escaped hell.

Emotionless. Disconnected. Cold. A mannequin. It’s what I’d become in order to survive the years held in captivity. I was able to endure the abuse and devastating loss as long as I remained detached.

But he wouldn’t let me.

Crisis, the bass guitarist in my brother’s rock band, Tear Asunder. He’s cocky, rude, a total man-whore. But the rock star has far more beneath the surface of his inked skin, and he’s determined to make me laugh again.

He made me a “deal”, but really, it was blackmail.

His terms were simple. Until his playful honesty became the building blocks to something unexpected. Something strong enough to pull me from the eye of the storm.

Because even though I escaped years of abuse, it didn’t mean I was free.

Warning: Shattered by You contains dark elements. If you are uncomfortable with harsh language and/or disturbing scenes, then this book might not be for you. Trigger warning for drug use. *Mature audiences only.

“I don’t know where to start.”
“Wherever you can, baby.”

Nashoda Rose certainly knows how to tell a story! We’ve been addicted to this series from day one and if this latest offering is any indication, our addiction shows no sign of abating because we thoroughly enjoyed this book and its characters. The camaraderie between the band member who are more like a brotherhood than a band was heart-warming, the witty banter was giggle worthy, and this, together with those heart crushing moments made Shattered by You a page turner.

‘We all know the definition of shattered: to break into pieces; to weaken, destroy; to damage, as by breaking or crushing. ‘

Crisis and Haven were like night and day yet they flowed off one another so beautifully.  Crisis the fun loving, sexy, incorrigible flirt who seemed to breeze through life with a sort of ease was the perfect counterpart for the detached and aloof Haven. Crisis saw beneath her cold façade and was totally unaffected by her indifference towards him and others, instead seeing the survivor who lay beneath.

“You didn’t break, Haven. Your pieces may have been scattered, but they didn’t break.”

Crisis admired Haven’s strength and tenacity, yet could see the vulnerability of a young woman whose walls could shatter any minute.  Crisis offered her friendship, a sounding board knowing her walls would eventually shatter and recognised the impact that fallout would have on them all.  Crisis never wavered in his support of Haven; building up her trust, helping her to open up, to lay herself bare emotionally, ensuring her he was in for the long haul and didn’t we love him for it!

Asking Haven to trust him with the memories of her cruel, tragic and horrendous past was something Haven found extremely difficult. The memories were terrible enough for her to deal with, she didn’t want to share those nightmares with Crisis or her brother Ream, instead finding outlets to deal with the painful treatment she’d been forced to live with and keeping it bottled up inside.

“I’ll sum it up for you. I want you, and I think you know that. No, I know you know that. But you won’t trust me and I won’t be with you if you don’t.”

Crisis! We loved this guy!  His very naughty mouth, his sexy demeanour was irresistible alright but it was his heart that won us over. What a guy! And oh those scenes with his Mum…seriously…we MELTED! Crisis could have a dirty sexy mouth one minute, and be sweet and swoony the next.

Our hearts went out to Haven and her brother, Ream. These twins shared such a strong bond. The life they had been dealt was devastating to say the least. Their bond made it even more painful and debilitating for Haven to share her past and we really did feel the anguish Ream endured over the unnecessary guilt he carried for the pain his sister suffered.

“I want my sister.”
“That sister, the one you loved, she’s dead, Ream. I can’t give you her. You can just love me for who I am now or…not.”
“Jesus, I do love you. I always will.”

Haven was a true survivor and her strength was so admirable. In saying that, we did have a bit of an issue with some of her actions. Whilst we understood and felt the passion, chemistry and extent of the feelings between Haven and Crisis, we couldn’t connect with the lust she voiced especially after living through such a traumatic, past. What this young girl experienced didn’t bear thinking about. The fact she survived was a miracle and so her inner monologue at times didn’t gel with what she had lived through and there were moments we felt as though we were being ‘forced’ to comprehend her behaviour.

‘Prince Charming was a fucking fairy tale. No guy was going to save you. You had to save yourself.’

In saying that, it didn’t take detract from our enjoyment of Shattered by You. This story brought us the ugly and dark, suffering and survival, beauty and pain, love and light as we lay witness to the love and devotion of an extended family and the passion and truth between a couple who fought to leave the past where it belongs. All told with intensity, humour and heart by an author who really knows how to deliver a fabulous story!  Now bring on Kite’s book!

NB:  This book can be read as a standalone but has interconnecting stories and characters and contains spoilers for book two – we highly recommend reading the series in order.

“I’d rather have you for a day than never have you at all.”

G&J: Well, there’s no question; Nashoda Rose has done it again and cemented a place as one of our favourite Authors. She brings such emotion, drama, passion and twisty dark suspense in her stories that we are totally addicted. Our hearts were literally in pain as we read whilst our pulse sky rocketed every time Deck came knocking. Not only that though, the sense of humour and obvious connection between our main characters caused a fantastic banter and had us smiling and laughing. This was brilliantly placed, balancing out the sheer horror and sometimes disturbing scenes.

‘Deck was now part of the darkness inside me I’d never escape from.’

Also, Chaos had a fantastic heroine in Georgie; such a strong, funny and sassy heroine with a real vulnerability too.

‘He was my only weakness and no matter what I did, I couldn’t’ get him out of me. And I’d tried’

Let’s start with Deck though…because wow! We met him in the Tear Asunder series and he’s one mysterious hard arse alpha who epitomises power and has Georgie flirting and teasing him like a woman obsessed. But then she’s loved him since sweet sixteen. The dynamics of their relationship was incredibly believable and inspiring. Nashoda Rose really writes an amazing hero. Deck has a fantastic sense of humour lurking underneath that somewhat tense and serious bad arse exterior. His sense of loyalty is inspirational and his passion, well, it’s off the charts once unleashed on our lucky lucky Georgie.

“She gave me the light to keep coming back. To crawl away from the evil I was surrounded by, the nightmares, the coldness, and she made me human again.”

Georgie is quite the hand full, with her partying, drinking and flirty ways but there’s a lot hidden behind this façade. Secrets waiting to be unravelled. Our hearts bled for this girl and Deck was perfection in bringing her back from the darkness once she let him in.

“Damn it, Georgie, I’m not throwing you away. I’m bringing you back to me.”

This is a spin off series and it’s been noted that it can be read as a standalone. We meet both Deck and Georgie in the Tear Asunder series as well as many of the other characters so our personal opinion is that we would recommend reading that series first to enhance your reading experience. It establishes a fantastic connection; an undercurrent of ongoing storyline if you will. Also; we loved that series and highly recommend it so it’s a win-win anyway!

‘We were all broken in some way. It was how we lived with our broken pieces, which made us who we were. And I just had more broken pieces than most.’

This Author has the formula just right in our opinion. There’s no drama for the sake of it; the characters all have their own identity and purpose and the passion with which she writes is flawless. We were gripped from the onset and could not put this story down for love nor money. It played out like a movie and we were not willing to hit pause. Nashoda Rose slowly but surely builds her story at a pace that gathers momentum as you experience the highs – the lows- the strength of attraction and unfaltering protection. The love and the friendship. Just Brilliant! NOW we want more and can’t wait for Kai & London’s story – we have a feeling it’ll hurt real bad and bring us to our knees! Bring it on! We highly recommend this series for fans of Kristen Ashley; although a lot darker the characters and story will appeal for sure!
