After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec.
Damien was a hotter version of my ex.
The neighbor I’d dubbed “Angry Artist” also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking.
He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall.
Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist.
The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities.
We got to talking.
He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup.
He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn’t be anything more.
Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same…because his heartbeat didn’t lie.
I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien.
I just hoped he wouldn’t shatter it for good.

Neighbor Dearest

Reviewed by Gitte & Jenny

‘I believed love was indestructible. I was wrong.’

We love that we pretty much know what we’re going to get when we pick up a new book from Penelope Ward. She has a formula and it’s one we enjoy; swoon-worthy messed up heroes and strong yet somehow vulnerable heroines. We know that we’ll have a good giggle and maybe even a sad tear or two. Always well written with a bit of everything we love thrown in. Oh and kudos to Penelope Ward being able to make fun of herself in her books. We LOVE that!

“It’s not always as simple as….Someone fucking their stepsister.”

“That really happened? Sounds like something out of a bad book.”

Neighbor Dearest was no exception, we fell in love with Damien and we felt our hearts deeply involved in his and Chelsea’s story. This is a standalone but if you’ve read Stepbrother Dearest you’ll know the background to Chelsea’s story.

“Don’t be afraid to say what you want. Life is too short.”

Chelsea’s heart was broken by Elec, her now ex-boyfriend, and she’s struggling to move on and learn to live again. She feels completely broken and is failing to understand how everything happened, blaming and questioning herself in the process. Moving into a new apartment block she is living day to day spending her nights on the phone with a therapist trying to heal.

“I want to enjoy my life unapologetically, and I don’t take anything for granted.”

Chelsea’s healing process begins when her sister, Jade and her have an encounter with the mysterious and enigmatic, Damien. This guy turns out to be more than what meets the eye and soon becomes a constant in Chelsea’s life. She is mesmerized with him yet he seems to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders and forces an unwanted distance between them. Hurrah for two barking dogs, the double D’s!

“I think the level of love that is irreplaceable is the highest level.”

As they say it’ll all come out in the wash and their journey is one of chills, thrills and passionate spills. Neighbor Dearest had romance, pervy heat, humour, high emotion and at times some good old cheese. Camel toe kissing…really?! Ewww, hahahaha. We definitely recommend this standalone feel good story with one of the best epilogues that had our hearts in a puddle on the floor.  We have to point out that we absolutely loved the message of ‘changing the story’ which we’re sure you will too when you pick this book up. We ‘ducking’ loved it and if we had Damien’s number we’d text him too asking him to come over for a duck.

“You are the most unintentionally romantic person I have ever meet.”

If you haven’t already done so, we recommend reading
Come and meet the very sexy Elec!

You’re not supposed to want the one who torments you.
When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a jerk he’d be.
I hated that he took it out on me because he didn’t want to be here.
I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room.
But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.
At first, I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard tattooed abs and chiseled face. Then, things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night.
Just as quickly as he’d come into my life, he was gone back to California.
It had been years since I’d seen Elec.
When tragedy struck our family, I’d have to face him again.
And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane.
I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.
Stepbrother Dearest is a standalone novel.
**Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+

Sweet, sexy and flirty standalone romance

stuck up suit 11th April

It started out like any other morning on the train.
Until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle.
He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world.
Who did the stuck-up suit think he was…God?
Actually, he looked like a God. That was about it.
When his stop came, he got up suddenly and left. So suddenly, he dropped his phone on the way out.
I might have picked it up.
I might have gone through all of his photos and called some of the numbers.
I might have held onto the mystery man’s phone for days—until I finally conjured up the courage to return it.
When I traipsed my ass across town to his fancy company, he refused to see me.
So, I left the phone on the empty desk outside the arrogant jerk’s office.
I might have also left behind a dirty picture on it first though.
I didn’t expect him to text back.
I didn’t expect our exchanges to be hot as hell.
I didn’t expect to fall for him—all before we even met.
The two of us couldn’t have been any more different.
Yet, you know what they say about opposites.
When we finally came face to face, we found out opposites sometimes do more than attract—we consumed each other.
Nothing could have prepared me for the ride he took me on.  And I certainly wasn’t prepared for where I’d wind up when the ride was over.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

“Can I tell you a secret?”
“You terrify me, Soraya.”

We loved this book! We  do love an arrogant arsehole with a romantic heart, so it goes without saying that we fell truly, madly and deeply in love with Mr Big Prick aka Graham J Morgan in this chance meeting romance that began through a lost phone on a train brought and about a story that was sexy and sweet with enough angst to put a nervous knot in our stomachs, palpable sexual chemistry and witty banter mixed with some sinfully sexy dirty talking by Mr Morgan all made for an enjoyable read!

“I’m nervous, Graham. I feel like you could swallow me whole.”
“I’ve been trying to.”
“Yes, that, too. But you know what I mean?”
“You’re afraid I’m going to hurt you.”

Despite bearing the scars from their pasts, Graham Morgan and Soraya Venedetta were such fun and heart-warming characters and OMG! We couldn’t wait for these two to finally get down to some horizontal (and vertical) business because the build-up was making us all hot and bothered and yeah…..things between the sheets didn’t disappoint, because this book was hot!

Soraya entered Graham’s world like a meteorite, calling him out on his cantankerous and obnoxious behaviour, and from the very first ‘meeting’ she had our Graham wrapped up in knots with her big brown eyes, voluptuous body, witty sense of humour and an intolerance for his bullshit. She aroused, agitated and awakened something in Graham that had this Oscar the Grouch in a state of constant arousal and confusion.

“What do you know, the devil had the face of an angel, in fact, Soraya Venedetta was a bombshell. My dick twitched in excitement.”

Graham J Morgan! Oh dear god, this man could melt knickers at twenty paces and despite his flaws, he still managed to tick ALL the boxes. This arrogant, cocky, possessive, ridiculously sexy, dirty talking hottie, with a sweetness that had us swooning and penchant for cheesy soap operas that had us giggling could put his expensive loafers under our bed any day, we just wouldn’t want to work for him because he was one crabby boss! He was such a belligerent little shit who had his staff continually walking on eggshells and could pin you with a death stare to make your knees quake.

‘If being an asshole were an art form, then I’d mastered it. The more successful I became, the easier it was.’

Graham was so closed off emotionally, yet he wore his heart on his sleeve. He could be such a condescending rude bastard one minute, deliver some very hot dirty talk the next, and then be incredibly sweet and sincere at the turn of a penny.

We adored this book and we’re loving this writing partnership! Individually these authors are an automatic must read for us, and together these ladies bring an entertaining and fun read to life and turn it into something special.  We enjoyed the twist in general and didn’t see it coming however, there was only one particular action carried out that deflated us a little as we felt it went against character, was a little immature and unnecessary and blighted an otherwise perfect story we love immensely.

“You have a way of turning me into mush, Venedetta.”

We particularly loved the banter between Graham and his Grandmother, Meme. This relationship was delightful and heartfelt, and spoke volumes about the man who hid beneath the arrogant, cocky and cranky façade and we’d have been thrilled if that was explored further. We definitely recommend picking up this addictive swoony, hot and romantic read!

“Don’t be a afraid to get hurt. It’s far better than never experiencing anything earth-shattering. Even temporary joy is better than nothing at all.”

“Who are you? You’re a total criminal aren’t you?”
“Have I stolen your heart yet?”

After a run of heartbreaking and emotional reads we were so in the mood for a bit of slap and tickle – a bit of fun  – so we read the synopsis for Felony Ever After and checked out the list of talented authors who contributed to this story, we guessed this would be the one that just might deliver on that! And we’re pleased to say it really did!

We were keen to see how this story would actually play out. After all, with such an array of fabulous authors with such specific voices working on one story, how would it flow? Would each voice be so different that it would take us out of the story?

“Sometimes white knights have tattoos, princess.”

We’ll be honest and say we did worry a little that maybe this wouldn’t work for us for that reason, however we’re thrilled to say this book did flow beautifully, with there being only a couple of chapters where we felt the authors injected their own voice a little too vigorously, and in doing so, changed the voices of Verity and Hudson which we found a bit off-putting. Luckily it was all soon back on track and we were caught up in the story once more.

“So what is it that makes you tick, Hudson?”
“Right now?” he licked his lips. “You.”

There were some bizarre and giggle worthy moments in this story. It was a crazy read as each author was given the task to follow on from the next and when the author before them threw a curve ball or box in this case, it was so much fun to see how the next author would pick it up and run with it.

‘Michaels@VirityPic03 The box is back. What’s in the damn boxes?’

Now, whoever created Hudson Fenn…THANK YOU because we bloody LOVED this tattooed hot boy who possessed a cheeky sweetness, an air of mystery and was as hot as all hell out of and between the sheets. Yup….he was something else!  And ummm who wouldn’t want to be hashtag pounded by Hudson?

‘He’s all mysterious and shit. He’s like Batman.’

Verity Michaels was a fab heroine who more than held her own and her workplace felt like a crazier day at The Office than a day at The Office! We loved her character. We also had this strange fascination too with her Boss, Mr Lay. What a character! Bizarre yet we couldn’t help but actually like him. He was a hot weirdo!

We have to give a shout out to Katherine Stevens, an author we haven’t heard of before but whose chapter in particular had us in fits of giggles. You can bet we’ll be 1clicking her upcoming book, Going Down, when it releases this Spring!

Felony Ever After was a hell on wheels taxi ride with lots of hot sex, some crazy funny tweets, a hero to swoon over, some mystery and a bit of ridiculousness. There was a bit of everything in this light-hearted, steamy funny romp that took us in some very whacky directions! We really enjoyed this crazy-arsed ride!

“If you tell me that room I can’t go into at your place is a Red Room of Pain, we’re going to need to stop to buy lube and some Fifty Shades wine.”

Standalone frienemies to lovers

room hate

Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right?

Not when it’s Justin…the only person I’d ever loved…who now hates me.

When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise.

The same boy who turned into the teenager whose heart I broke years ago.

The same teenager who’s now a man with a hard body and a hardass personality to match.

I hadn’t seen him in years, and now we’re living together because neither one of us is willing to give up the house.

The worst part? He didn’t come alone.

I’d soon realize there’s a thin line between love and hate. I could see through that smug smile. Beneath it all…the boy is still there. So is our connection.

The problem is…now that I can’t have Justin, I’ve never wanted him more.

Author’s note – RoomHate is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

‘I could still see his face like it was yesterday. I could never forget it.’

We love Penelope Ward and yet again we enjoyed another one of her stories. Room Hate was a quick and easy romantic read with a swoon worthy hero and a sweet and likeable heroine. A story unfolding in both past and present time this is one of second chances with the one who got away. The one who still owns every inch of a beating heart – the soul mate. Childhood friends who parted only to be reunited a decade later when a tragedy and new beginnings bring them together. Frienemies to lovers who have to go on a journey of forgiveness, understanding and self-discovery in order to accept that the heart wants what it wants.

“Losing you taught me not to count on anyone but myself. It shaped who I am today…and that’s not necessarily a good thing.”

We loved the hero, Justin, sure he was a bit of an arse and his hostility a tad over the top as at age fifteen the reason for the ginormous grudge felt a tad unbelievable. However, he completely redeemed himself and despite having a penchant for an accompaniment in his coffee which made us gag we LOVED this guy! Truly loved him! Our favourite discoveries were of how protective he really was and still is under surprising circumstances. This guy was almost the complete package of perfection. A sexy bighearted decent bloke who made us come over all unnecessary.

‘This reconnection was really like the sun coming up again for the first time in a long time.’

As for Amelia, she was so sweet with a beautiful heart. She made a hasty decision when she was a young teenager which has haunted her till now and which she’s still in the doghouse for. We actually felt really sorry for her as she was a child at the time. She goes through such a life altering journey in RoomHate and proves what a beautiful, forgiving yet somewhat self-doubting person she really is.

“Music is an expression of all those things you live for…a reflection of the passion within your soul. I live for you. You’re my passion. You’re my music…”

There’s so many ways to spoil this story so we have to be so vague when we say that there was one relationship that absolutely stole our hearts and made this book what it was for us. It had our hearts bursting with love before melting into a puddle on the floor. LOVED it! Justin you’re truly special and this relationship was Bea-u-tiful!!!!

“Please come back to me.”

What happens when the one you want is the only one you can’t have?

My name is Sevin.

Homeschooled and sheltered by my ultra-religious family, I was always taught that lust was a sin.

Elle was the girl who’d been carefully chosen for me.

After a long-distance courtship, I’d be moving into her family’s guesthouse so that we could get to know each other in the months before the wedding.

Boundaries were set: no inappropriate touching, no kissing, no sex before marriage.

I’d accepted those rules and my fate.

Until I met the one I wanted to sin with.

That was when restraint became a problem…especially since “the one” wasn’t Elle.

It was her sister, Evangeline.

You know what they say about best laid plans.

My name is Sevin, and I have sinned.

***Told in alternating points of view, Sins of Sevin is a full-length standalone novel. Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. Only appropriate for adult readers age 18+

Sins of Sevin

Reviewed by Jenny & Gitte

“I have so much love inside of me that’s all yours, and it’s been trapped inside. I need to give it to you, because holding it in is killing me. I know your heart belongs to me. But I’m selfish. I want all of you. I want you.”

We’re overcome with emotion! What twists! What turns! What a story! Oh our hearts! This is one of those times we are going to beg you to trust us and trust the author, to leave your preconceived ideas at the door and go into this book blind, letting the story and the author guide you. Do so and you will be rewarded!

*Sniff, sniff* you’ll have to excuse us a minute while wipe tears off our Kindles. Wow! What an emotionally charged story that was! We’re pretty sure our notes were stained with tears as we relived the story through highlighted quotes, welling up time and again as we chatted about and reflected on Sevin’s story which quite literally moved us to tears!

“I wish I could rid you from my heart, but you are my fucking heart.”

We’ve been a bit leery of picking up books claiming ‘forbidden romance’ of late because in more cases than not, the author has tended to focus on the mechanical sexual taboo factor of the story rather than the emotional pull we so desperately seek in this theme. All too often it’s the shock factor of forbidden sex that is favoured over the soul stirring emotional and personal conflict of forbidden ‘love’.

Well not so in Sins of Sevin because Penelope Ward crafted an incredibly powerful, stirring, evocative, passionate and heartbreaking story of a forbidden love between two people whose love ran soul deep and whose choices would have disastrous effects on themselves and those around them.

“You’re my truth.  The only thing that has ever felt natural to me is loving you. No one is going to tell me I can’t love you.”

The sexual chemistry between Evangeline and Sevin was clearly evident and tangible from their first meeting however this took a back seat to the deeper connection we immediately felt between them. Theirs was a comfortable relationship, almost as though we felt them expel a big breath upon their first meeting. They were soulmates in every sense of the word. So comfortable with each other, their love so inevitable, it was as though they could finally just ‘be‘ with no lies or pretences.

“I’m lucky that you’ve trusted me. I’ve gotten to see your passion and your vulnerability…your need to be loved.”

We feel to divulge anything, to even give a hint as to what unfolded in this story could lessen the emotional impact, the surprise and shocks some revelations will have on you. We will say, be prepared to experience a rollercoaster of emotion because for every up Penelope Ward delivers, there is a down, for every second of calm there is an abundance of turbulence and we felt every single moment as though we held our breath and gripped our Kindles from start to finish.

‘There’s got to be more to life than living in fear of punishment.’

Sevin was a sensitive and lost man, a man who gave every part of his heart to a woman who was his other half, who showed him he was worthy of loving and being loved, even if he didn’t believe it himself. Their love went against their teachings, morals and consumed them with guilt and we felt it all as Penelope Ward delivered an alluring and emotive story that shook us, excited us, broke us and gave us hope. The direction she took and the manner in which she delivered her story only served to showcase the brilliant talent of this author. We just wished this beautiful story hadn’t been cheapened by ‘Abs Marketing’ – we wish that whoever made or suggested this cover had actually drawn from the incredible poignancy of Sevin’s story.

‘Evangeline could pretty much rip out my heart, stomp on it, then feed it to me, and I’d still hand it back to her. She owned it.’

A piece of advice….have tissues on hand. If you’re anything like us….you’re going to need them! LOT’S OF THEM! We can’t wait to hear what you think of this one!

“Sometimes, we don’t get over painful things, we just learn to live with them.”
