Grounded (Up in the Air #3) by R.K Lilley

James and Bianca’s story draws to a close in the explosive conclusion to the Up In The Air Trilogy.

After a short but earnest courtship, Bianca can no longer deny her feelings for James, and though she’s tried her hardest, she can’t help but see that he cares deeply for her, as well. In a completely uncharacteristic move, she has put aside her misgivings and agreed to live with the enigmatic billionaire. Is her leap of faith the beginning of something wonderful, or is it too much, too fast?

As James and Bianca feel a growing need for each other that neither can deny, circumstances beyond their control intervene, trying to tear them apart. Amidst the ever mounting threat of a monster who wants Bianca dead, and the constant pitfalls of an indiscreet past that James can’t seem to escape, can these two passionate lovers manage to find their happily ever after?

Gitte:  For anyone who enjoyed In Flight and Mile High and loved James and Bianca as well as Stephan this third and last instalment is a fabulous conclusion. Grounded had my heart in my throat; it made me laugh, swoon, and yes cringe a couple of times. This series is HOT, kinky and had me hooked with complex characters and a thrilling story line.

Jenny:  Totally agree Gitte.  This has been one hot series that has kept us absolutely hooked and entertained throughout.  Grounded was such a perfect ending and you can’t help but devour every minute of it. Not to mention we were introduced to the gorgeous Mr. Cavendish.  I love the chapter headings.  They add to the anticipation of what’s to come and give us an idea of which Mr Cavendish we’re about to encounter on the subsequent pages.

Gitte:  Mr. Cavendish is still a bit of a mystery but what is obvious is that no matter what, he is obsessively in LOVE with Bianca. Love is not something he has ever felt or really experienced so his way to deal is by being extremely possessive and overly protective. He is absolutely petrified of losing her or anything happening to her. He gives himself a 100% to Bianca which considering his “man-whore” days and lack of emotional bonds manifests as a desire to dominate and devour.

Jenny:  Oh yes Gitte, now Mr Cavendish found the love of his life, he loves her with abandon and as this man never does anything by halves, he loves possessively and fiercely.  His past is never far behind him and although Bianca knows of his insatiable appetite, he is desperate to keep his past indiscretions just that, in the past.

Gitte: Bianca is still like the ice queen, her childhood ruling the way in which she lives her life in regards to trust and love. The only man who has her completely being Stephan due to the bond they forged on the streets. However, we see her finally opening up to James and breaking through the ice to let love in and love in return. James’ love, perseverance, sensitivity and patience with Bianca as well as the dominance being just what Bianca needs and wants and gets her to finally admit her own in return.

Jenny:  I have loved watching Bianca evolve through the series. She has thawed somewhat and in Grounded we finally see her letting down her barriers. Can she truly let this possessive, insatiable, controlling and beautiful man into her heart?  Even though James is persistent and relentless with Bianca, she seems to be the one person who can bring out the vulnerability in this man. She has the ability to bring him to his knees.   As hot as this man is (and he’s definitely that!) it was the tender moments that had James stealing my heart, in particular the scenes in which he tended to her during her nightmares.  The absolute love, devotion and understanding he showed her during these times was what endeared me to him. Yes, he’s still crazy, over the top James, but these moments really grounded him for me.

Gitte: Oh Jenny I am still so madly in love with Stephan…I want a best friend like him…where can I get one? I loved when we got to hear his voice; I ADORED him and loved his relationships and what he gave; which was his heart, completely. His love and devotion to Bianca his kindred spirit, he was her saviour. Their love is pretty special and James’ understanding and his respect for the love Stephan and Bianca shared melted my heart.

Jenny:   Stephan.  Where do I start with Stephan?  I adore this character and I agree, who wouldn’t want a best friend like him.  He loves Bianca implicitly, no judgement, no question.  His love is unfailing and Bianca’s for him.  This truly is a beautiful bond that is unshakable and I loved how Stephan was considered part of the relationship between James and Bianca.  He was accepted, he was needed and he was cherished in return for the never ending devotion he showed Bianca. I loved hearing Stephan’s voice in this book, that only added to my adoration of him.

Gitte: I have to say Jenny, in the scene where Bianca finally opens up and declares her feeling; James’ reaction completely melted my heart. I thought this was such a poignant and tender moment and showed his heart and vulnerability. The scars of his past finally healing fully in this moment.

Also, the scenes of Bianca’s nightmares and the consequent comfort and actions of James…sigh…this man really gave me goose bumps at times…in a good way!!

The final crescendo at the end of this story had my heart beating and I thought the Author wrote it perfectly from the different pov’s. It felt even more real and the tension was immense to the point where I got worried that this beautiful, romantic and slightly unorthodox story would not have a HEA. But phew… did!!

Lastly I want to say how much I enjoyed the secondary characters. I am hoping they all get their turn and we get to hear their stories! I am not ready to let them all go yet!

Jenny:   Bianca didn’t give her heart easily at all, Stephan being the exception, so when she did finally let James in, as you said Gitte,  it really was a beautiful, moving and poignant moment in the book in which you really felt every single moment between the two of them and the emotion could be felt in every word.

The final stages of this book had me gasping.  The way it was done, through alternating POV’s made you live every moment, EVERY detail and you felt it.  It was excruciating reading through those pages and like you, I had a moments of dread because I loved and cared for every one of these characters and I didn’t want to see them hurt further.  What a way to finish this series!

I can’t wait to hear more from this author and from the characters we’ve met and like you, I’m not ready to let them go just yet!

Mile High (Up In the Air #2) by R.K. Lilley

James and Bianca’s tumultuous story continues in the sequel to In Flight.

James has initiated Bianca into a dark and drugging world of passion and pain. He taught her about her own submissive, masochistic nature, and she fell swiftly and deeply in love with the undeniably charming and impossibly beautiful Mr. Cavendish, but a painful misunderstanding and the return of the brutally violent demon of her past have combined to overwhelm Bianca, and, confused and hurt, she pushes him away.

It’s been over a month since the shocking attack that hospitalized her, and since she told a distraught James that she needed space, but her feelings haven’t gone away. Even she knew that it was only a matter of time before he would cast his spell on her again…

Gitte: How much were we dying to get onto book #2 in this trilogy Jenny?! Seriously I could not get enough Mr. James Cavendish…yum…and there was a bit of a cliff-hanger in book #1!! Oh, actually before I say anything else, we can’t forget to say that readers definitely need to read book #1 ‘In Flight’ before moving onto this one as it picks up a few weeks after and the story line won’t make much sense otherwise. So moving on, I’ve been sat here thinking how to write down my thoughts without giving spoilers…tough one Jenny, what do you think?

Jenny:   We sure were GG!  In fact we were going to read a different book in between In Flight and this one but we just couldn’t wait  We wanted more of Mr Cavendish and wow, we got plenty of him!  Absolutely agree  – make sure you read In Flight before moving onto this one .

Agree GG, this is a tough one to review without giving anything away.

Gitte: Okay so this is definitely a very erotic and emotional continuation of Bianca and James’ story and can I just say Thank God for horses. Despite being absolutely petrified of them, I suddenly have the URGE to go horse riding especially if I am treated to a ride Cavendish style! HOT!!!

Jenny:   OMG! I don’t’ think I can proceed any further without saying that if I hear a neigh within fifty feet of me I think I will combust! True story – that had to have been one of the most erotic scenes I’ve read in a long time! Giddy up!!!

Gitte: We start off with Bianca recovering from something that happened in book #1 as well as nursing a broken heart, keeping away from James (how? she has got some serious iron will and unwillingness to boot!) and back to flying the friendly skies (umm yeah, that’s the clean version!). James is so desperate to see Bianca again and will pretty much do anything to get her back. Can I just say that it wouldn’t take much for me here…a call would suffice! After a change of heart Bianca decides she is ready again and their hot emotional journey begins once more as Bianca is unable to resist the intense attraction, the charm of the man…and…cue horse riding…sorry I just had to get that in there again Jenny.

Jenny:    I’ll say, I think I would have broken long before Bianca did! A phone call and a “wanna come over and wash my car and do my laundry” would have been enough to get me running back to Mr Cavendish!  But our girl Bianca definitely has an iron will and makes than man work for it! Good for you Bianca!   When she does give in, oh boy does it heat up FAST!  Oh you can go down that horse riding path anytime you want GG….I’ll never tire of thinking about it – I practically ran down my kindle battery with the amount of times I re-read that scene! Did someone just turn up the heating in here?

Gitte:   Now James, he is LUSH, no doubt, LOVED him in book #1. We got to know him a bit better in this one and we clearly see that this man has two opposing sides. He loves and protects fiercely, almost obsessively so. He is a strong sometimes harsh dominant; he needs complete control in and out the bedroom. Yet there is some kind of sadness about him…a vulnerability that affects his relationship as we experience his fears for Bianca, her safety and his fear of her leaving him. He has an amazing loyalty and openness…if shared in return. Actually he is a pretty remarkable man overall.  However, I have to say here Jenny that one line he said in this book grossed me out completely and I had a real problem with it. I think this line unfortunately affected my view of him for a while after, but this is most probably personal to me though! What do you think Jenny? I know I sent you a text immediately when I read it….

Jenny:    Okay, you know I LOVED James and I still do but have to agree with you on that line.  As soon as you sent me a text about a certain  line that made you shudder I responded back as soon as I got to it – I knew exactly which one it was because it had the same effect on me.

It wasn’t just that.  Now, I love me some hot alpha, possessive male and our Mr Cavendish it that and more, but  I have to say, in this one I found James just a little to extreme in his actions.   He was still hot, sexual, alpha James  but a few times I just thought, in a couple of instances, that he went a little overboard.

itte:   Overall I have to admit that I loved book #1 but book #2 fell just a bit short for me. It had a lot of repetition such as Bianca’s family history which was relayed word for word again. Don’t get me wrong I really did enjoyed this story, I loved that we got to know the characters better, (James’ story was horrific!), saw their hidden depths and yes we did move on in their journey. There just wasn’t enough, we didn’t quite get there. Also, I think James and Bianca both annoyed me a little in this installment some of the traits were just too much for me at times. I will say though that I cannot wait for book #3 as I am desperate to know more and find out how it all ends, I am crossing everything for a HEA here. I am sure it will be explosive (in more ways than one)! Oh and can I just say that I absolutely adore and LOVE Stephan, and the snippets we got with him and his man were yummy…more Stephan please!!

Jenny:   Have to agree with you on all the above GG.  I absolutely LOVED book #1 – and whilst I really did enjoy this one it didn’t quite stack up to In Flight for me.

I enjoyed the unravelling of their pasts and James’s story was horrific indeed.  It just left me wanting whereas In Flight left me totally satisfied.   I found James and Bianca’s actions and reactions just a bit extreme at times.
I was hoping for more of Stephan too but I’m sure we’ll be delving into a whole lot more in book 3 and for that reason and more I can’t wait for the release of that book!
I’m really intrigued to how this story will progress and I’m definitely addicted to this series that’s for sure!

In Flight (Up in the Air #) by R.K. Lilley

When reserved flight attendant Bianca gets one look at billionaire hotel owner James Cavendish, she loses all of her hard-won composure. For a girl who can easily juggle a tray of champagne flutes at 35,000 feet in three inch heels, she finds herself shockingly weak-kneed from their first encounter. The normally unruffled Bianca can’t seem to look away from his electrifying turquoise gaze. They hold a challenge, and a promise, that she finds impossible to resist, and she is a girl who is used to saying no and meaning it.

Bianca is accustomed to dealing with supermodels and movie stars in her job as a first class flight attendant, but James Cavendish puts them all to shame in the looks department. If only it were just his looks that she found so irresistible about the intimidating man, Bianca could have ignored his attentions. But what tempts her like never before is the dominant pull he seems to have over her from the moment they meet, and the promise of pleasure, and pain, that she reads in his eyes

Gitte:    Wow Jenny I absolutely loved this book for so many delicious reasons, I could not put it down.  It definitely was a new play on the whole Fifty Shades & Bared to You theme, although comparisons are inevitable. I think this is my first book with a Flight Attendant theme and I kind of loved it hahaha. It was refreshing and yeah the whole Mile High club *wink wink*…HOT!

Jenny:    Yep, Gitte, this book, the first in a trilogy was definitely hot! I think the best way to explain our first thoughts is  to quote our text message conversations that were flying back and forth early on…..

J:   “OMG! I am never going to sleep……4%  in and I bloody love this book”
G:  “I’m at 32% and cannot put it down”…..
J:   “I’m screwed then, it’s gonna be a late one for me – I think we are in book love together”…….
G:  “Yes you really are screwed and yes we are in book love”………
J:.  “Holy crap this book is so hot…..knicker change in seat 2D”
I may never look at flying in the same light again!  Okay, moving on!

Gitte:   The chemistry between Mr. Cavendish (sigh) and Bianca was fantastic, it not only ran deep on an emotional level it was pretty spectacular and steamy hot too! James Cavendish, *sigh* he is a yummy hot dominant alpha male…oh and let’s not forget a billionaire to boot!!  What that man can do…his whole attitude…be still my beating heart!! Bianca is a sweet gorgeous girl who is completely clued up and street wise. She knows what she wants and values everything she is and has. She is a mystery to start with which James slowly unravels as she unravels him in return. The scene with them on the plane right at the beginning, I suppose you could say after their first connection…umm I don’t know about you Jenny but I may have re-read that one more than once whilst sat in the freezer!!

Jenny:   I can neither confirm nor deny if I re-read that scene…..oh who am I kidding, you know me too well, of course I did! And of course the freezer was the best place to read it.  Wow, the chemistry was there right from the outset!  No slow up build here – these two had an instant sexual connection.  It was steamy alright.  We’re firstly introduced to Bianca and her best bud Stephan and I loved the relationship between these two.  You’re immediately drawn to Bianca as a character because she is so innocent on one level but so worldly on another and she became a very intriguing character for me right from the beginning.  Mr Cavendish – well, what about him?  Geez….hot, billionaire, alpha, possessive, dirty talking male who knows exactly what he wants and goes after it……. and he wants Bianca and the hunt is on! This man! I am devoid of speech where James Cavendish is concerned!

Gitte:   I am adamant not to talk too much about the story because this one is easy to spoil, what I will say is I  fell in love with James & Bianca immediately, oh and I absolutely fell in love with Stephan too. These three characters are so well written and my connection to them was almost immediate. I felt the emotions, and as I learnt more of their background they definitely took a piece of my heart.
I thought what we learnt of their back story was so well written; we were given just enough to hook us as readers, giving us an insight into their psyche and understanding their subsequent behaviours and actions.
Bianca’s relationship with James,  it was not only LUSH; it was also an extremely emotional connection between two emotionally scarred people who upon finding each other learnt to open up to another albeit slowly. The end result of their traumatic pasts mirrored despite being different.
The friendship between Bianca and Stephan was heart-breaking and yet so amazing. How these two came about finding each other when they were teenagers up till the dynamics of their present day friendship, I melted at the fierce love and protection.

Jenny:   I instantly loved the connection and friendship between Bianca and Stephan.  They are rock solid and there for each other.  They’ve been through so much and they mean everything to one another and I am dying to see their past unravelled further in Mile High (Book #2 available now)
Yes, Gitte we do have to be very mindful not to give anything away for our fellow readers because it’s all about peeling the layers away in this story and experiencing the journey. To let them discover why Bianca is so receptive to James and his lifestyle when everything about her past screams that she should be repelled by it.

Gitte:  So yeah Jenny, I really enjoyed book 1 in this series. I thought it was really well written; it kept me hooked till the end with great characters and a thrilling story. The balance between the ‘sex factor’ and the story was spot on!
Despite the similarities of some of the storyline to Fifty & Bared to You, I enjoyed it, as it was different enough to stand on its own. No inferior imitation here! I don’t know about you Jenny but I am dying to start on book 2!!

Jenny:  I agree Gitte.  I loved the writing, loved the characters and the storyline had me riveted and I was consumed with it step of the way!
Like you say, there will be the inevitable comparisons to Fifty & Bared but this book is different and definitely not an imitation.  There was a good story mixed in with the sex (oh dear god….the SEX IS HOT!!) so it had plenty of substance! So charge that phone Gitte because we will be burning up the phone lines once we start Mile High *wink, wink* !
