Find out what happens when you give six authors the SAME blurb and they write their OWN story.

You know those people that have a house full of motivational slogans? Embrace Every Moment, stamped on their coffee mugs. Always Kiss Me Goodnight painted above their perfectly made beds.

I’m not one of those people.

This morning I overslept, then slipped on a stray sock and banged my toe into the nightstand. The elevator in my building broke and I had to run down six flights of stairs. And then my local coffee shop was closed. For health code violations.

What’s that? Not the end of the world? You want me to suck it up?

Did I mention I’m wearing a wedding dress… on the subway?

It’s a Good Day for a Hot Mess.

Someone embroider that on a pillow.

Love In Transit is a fabulous unique idea which grabbed our attention the moment we saw how six Authors each wrote a novella with the same synopsis, the cover is gorgeous too! We managed to inhale a few of the stories which were deliciously different and well written. Without question we highly recommend picking this book up if you’re a romantic at heart and you’re looking for short sharp romantic, emotional and sexy hits that without question will each satisfy a lunch hour read or commute.  So, jump on board- wedding dress optional!

Times Square

‘Is there anything sexier than a man absorbed in a book? Not to this self-confessed book nerd there isn’t.’

Well, Jana Aston just satisfied our book loving hearts. Firstly, we have to admit it was our first time with Jana but what a fabulous first time it was. We laughed and swooned in equal measure. It was quick witted, very book-ish (if you read it you’ll know what we mean) and sexy. Loved it!

Wall Street Station

‘To save an angel, I prepare to make a deal with the devil.’

Liv Morris gave us her own version of a sweet fairy-tale mixed with poignant moments of ‘Pretty Woman’. So much packed into this one, which was a more emotional read; we swooooooned and fell in love!

The Hammersmith & City Line

“What’s so funny?”

“You’re wearing a really shit wedding dress on The Tube.”

Kitty French gave us….well Kitty French; and as we love her we inhaled her dirty and quirky reality TV romp with laugh out loud moments! LOVED this one.

Capitol South

‘My heart requires more time to heal before I try to open it up to another person.’

Raine Miller brought us pomp and grace with a real personal romantic touch. A swoony romance ultimately borne out of an upper class family commitment. Loved it.

FILTHY RICH (Blackstone Dynasty #1) by RAINE MILLER :: REVIEW

Standalone in a series. Swoony, sweet and passionate romance.

Billionaire Caleb Blackstone lives in the glamorous world of wealth and success, with every material luxury. But the moment he sees Brooke Casterley, none of that matters. Caleb is filled with a raw, undeniable need that he can’t ignore…for a girl who is so completely different from everything and everyone he’s ever known.
Only Brooke isn’t looking for love. She knows all too well just how much damage the wrong guy can do. Still, what sane, broke British girl can resist the charms of an incredibly sexy, chivalrous billionaire? What starts as flirtation quickly turns into all-consuming passion. Nothing could have prepared her for the searing heat of Caleb’s touch—or just how much she craves him.
Their whirlwind romance is the stuff of high-society fantasy—but for every moment of pleasure, there is a cost. Past mistakes and tragedy shadow them both…and falling for him might be the kind of trouble she can’t afford.

“When you find whatever it is that makes you happy, Caleb, hold on to it with everything you’ve got. Your heart will let you know.”

We spent the weekend with one of the most beautiful, sweet and sexy couples and we enjoyed every minute of it.  Caleb Blackstone, where do we sign up to get one of him?! Really, what a beautiful man inside out. Patient, understanding, caring, romantic and funny with that passionate raw dominant side Raine Miller is so adept at writing. He was just perfection. Sure, it had a bit of that insta love feel but it was completely believable and we fell in love with the pure romance as well as the intensity of it.  Caleb’s possessiveness was never over the top because he wasn’t afraid to show his vulnerable side, in fact he stole our hearts completely.

‘I’d never known that sort of love. Never known unconditional, fearless love. Apart from Nan. But from a man? Was it really possible?’

Brooke was a darling girl, so sweet and innocent but at times she had a real potty mouth. We were immediately endeared to her person and the relationship she had with her Nan. Again, we connected with Brooke’s character completely and felt her hesitations, her upsetting past and why she struggled with certain aspects in life. So much tragedy with a price to pay meant we absolutely felt her loneliness and desperate need to feel safe and secure.

‘Like Sleeping Beauty in the fucking fairy tale, my beauty came to life in my arms.’

Swept up in a passionate whirlwind of a romance was just what we wanted and Filthy Rich was absolutely that. In some respects it felt like a modern day fairy-tale and we appreciated it for this very reason.

‘I kissed her forehead and stilled as I thought about how right this actually felt. Hadn’t known I was missing anything. Hadn’t known it was possible for someone to steal your heart without even knowing they’d done it. Hadn’t known I needed her.’

Although there was emotional angst with a dash of drama it never became implausible nor was it added for effect. Raine Miller could’ve gone there, but she never did and we applaud her for that. This story was all about the romance and finding your soul mate. We were reminded at times of The Blackstone Affair with some similarities of character, but this was not necessarily a bad thing.

‘Brooke and I were inevitable. Inevitable.’

Also, on a final note, we do have to mention the book cover. No question this is one of our favourites as it’s so rare that a male character completely fits with the cover model. Kuedos, Raine Miller for getting it spot on and for making Caleb come alive in our minds.

Review by Jenny & Gitte

Jenny:   In Eyes Wide Open we witness Brynne and Ethan going through big changes in their lives and once again this passionate pair deal with past demons, current issues and life changing experiences in their own way.  You feel the intensity of their relationship and the heat…..woe! The sex is HOT and for these two sex is what binds them, it’s how they communicate their inner most feelings, so for those who love a bit of nookie in their books…you won’t be disappointed!

“Eyes on me, baby.” He commanded on a harsh breath. “You know I have to have your eyes when I take you”

Now, I may go against the grain in saying this and I’m not sure if you’ll agree Gitte, but for me The Blackstone Affair series has never been about Ethan.  I know….shock, horror…since when does a dirty talking, hot alpha man not drawn me to a book?  Well, of course Ethan is at the crux of it all, but for me, these books have always been about Brynne and her journey and the larger than life Ethan never overshadowed that for me, none more so than in Eyes Wide Open. Brynne is the character that has me picking up this series every time, though of course we do love Mr Ethan Blackstone!

In Brynne, the author created a heroine whom I love and admire greatly. I admire how she has stayed so compassionate to others despite the ugliness that she has seen and experienced in her life and I love her sensitivity and inner beauty. I revel in how this woman stands up to the blustering Ethan Blackstone and how she is so delicate yet never weak. Yes, at times, alpha, possessive Ethan may think he has all the winning deuces, but let me tell you, this woman is no pushover and it’s easy to see how Ethan fell in love with this feisty, yet soulful woman.

“My girl faced her fears head on. I should take her example and do the same”

Oh and Ethan’s niece!……Gitte, how much did you love that child?  She completely stole my heart!  You really did get to see another side to Ethan when these two interacted didn’t you?

Gitte: So, the rollercoaster ride continues for sure Jenny. We saw so much more of Brynne and Ethan’s characters, different sides and under different circumstances. The scenes with Ethan and his niece stole my heart, absolutely. They highlighted just what an amazing man Ethan really is. He is not only dangerous and fierce, he is funny and sweet and amazingly passionate.

I understand completely what you’re saying Jenny in regards to Brynne and I have to agree. I think Brynne is one of the better written heroines out there. She is so delicate and compassionate by nature yet underneath that exterior lays a strength and sense of survival that is so fierce. After everything life has thrown at her or even continues to be, she is never fragile or weak at heart, if she stumbles she picks herself up again without fanfare.

The balance of her sweet adorable qualities combined with her independent streak is commendable and so well written. Don’t get me wrong, she does have her issues, in the sense that she can’t quite comprehend the extent of Ethan’s love for her and she needs to realise that it’s okay to reach out and place her trust in Ethan.

Ethan broke down Brynne’s barriers sure, however Brynne broke down many of Ethan’s in return and it takes a strong woman to do just that.

“It pained me to see him hurting; even more so that I couldn’t do anything about it because he refused to share it with me….”

Brynne definitely does not go gently into that good night; rather she faces it head on.

Jenny:  In this installment we do get a lot answers about Ethan’s past but there is still so much to know – so much to delve into and I have to say I really was secretly hoping for more on that front in this book.  Ethan is a closed book about his feelings and plays everything close to his chest, yet the one thing he is very demonstrative about, the one thing he leaves us in no doubt about and that is the fact hat he has found the love of his life in Brynne and you feel…, you KNOW that this man would lay down his life for her – without question. So deep is his love for her.

But make no mistake, for all this man’s strength and belligerence; I felt Brynne was the stronger of the two. She has the will to heal not only herself but, Ethan as well. She also has a past to deal with and has suffered yet she is there for Ethan, who has himself suffered unimaginable horrors, but you know it will be Brynne who will bring him out of himself.

But Brynne herself has to learn to trust.

It’s called trust, Brynne and it is by far the hardest gift to give away”

Brynne didn’t realise how lost she was and how life had become about merely about existing before Ethan came along. He broke down (well, more like he used a battering ram) her defences and the emotional barriers she had so carefully constructed and made her feel alive again.  Watching these two broken souls heal and save each other is what will have you turning the pages.

“I feel the same way about him in a lot of ways. Ethan really saved me from myself.”

Whilst I did find it a little predictable at times, this in no way impacted on my enjoyment of the story and the ride it was to take me on.  EWO delivers and Blackstone fans will devour and love this one!  I know we can’t wait for more! What about you Gitte, did you enjoy this one?

Gitte: Ethan is a force to be reckoned with and he wants Brynne to let go of her insecurities and understand that she is everything to him. Ethan loves her with such passion and no doubt Jenny, he would die to save her.

“My position was simple, really. I didn’t care about her past. It changed nothing in my feelings for her. She was the one – the one person I needed. Now it was just a matter of convincing her of this fact.”

Ethan may have saved Brynne but he needs saving in return. Did he let her in, did he acknowledge that he needed saving….well a strong alpha male like him; this path is not going to be easy.

We learn more as we are taken on an emotional ride, but we are left with many questions also.  At times I would have liked more on Ethan’s background in regards to details and depth as I didn’t feel we were completely let in, neither was Brynne.  There was an abundance of hot intense moments which in the first half threw the balance a bit.

Saying this, I have really enjoyed this series and I know this third instalment will be a huge hit with all Blackstone Affair readers.  A beautiful ending….

“I was immersed in the complete and total sensual haze of Brynne and my love for her…”

Jenny:      So GG to say we were excited to get the ARC of All In last Sunday is a bit of an understatement wouldn’t you say?

Gitte:        Absolutely Jenny, how excited were we to get Ethan back in our eager little hands!! It was so hard to keep quiet on this one!

Jenny:      It sure was! We’ve been dying to tell people all about this book haven’t we?  But Raine had asked everyone (reviewers etc) to keep it quiet until release day.  Of course we respected her wishes, even though it killed us not to discuss with our fellow readers.  The last thing we would want is to spoil a readers enjoyment of a book.

Gitte:        No doubt about it, at the end of the day it is about the book, its characters and the Author who give us a piece of their heart in the writing of their story!

Jenny:      Exactly.  So let’s talk about All In.  This is the very much anticipated second book in The Blackstone Affair series, it picks up where Naked (The Blackstone Affair #1) left off .  This time the story is told through Ethan’s voice.  I have been really looking forward to this book – I was dying to hear from Ethan.  I really did  like hearing Ethan’s voice in this book, but I do think I prefer Brynne’s voice.  There is something about her character that grabs me.  Having said that, ideally I would love to read something from alternating POV’s from these two.

Gitte:       I was too Jenny…could not wait to get inside this gorgeous alpha male’s head. To hear Ethan’s voice; to be given an insight and to understand him; who he is/where he has been how he got to where we met him in Naked. Absolutely love Ethan, I have to say.

Jenny:       Oh what’s not to love about Ethan…**sigh**….This book has a lot of emotion because we get to experience their back stories unfolding – both Brynne and Ethan have painful pasts and we get to explore these in All In.  Both of these characters are so tortured by their pasts but Gitte, it was Brynne’s story that broke my heart.  To hear her “tell it” with so much emotion had me spellbound and close to tears. Brynne’s voice is so moving and so powerful.

Gitte:     I was shocked Jenny. I wasn’t expecting Brynne’s story to be so heartbreaking and awful. No wonder this girl has these emotional barriers around her. Raine really packed a punch telling Brynne’s story!

Jenny:    She sure did!  Ethan is still our gorgeous, super sexy, alpha, possessive hero who is coming to terms with the intense feelings he has for Brynne, and boy are they intense!  His priority is keeping her safe, but at the same time he has to run a busy, successful business, provide support to Brynne and also encourage her to deal with her past demons.  Not to mention that Ethan has his own demons to confront.   He certainly has a lot on his mind.

Gitte:       Yeah Ethan’s back story, though not as detailed as I would have liked, sure was emotional. No wonder this guy protects and loves as fiercely as he does. His (*hot*) strong alpha male shoulders carry so many burdens; but he deals…possessively so.

Jenny:     Brynne. What can I say about Brynne?   She gave this book heart.  I absolutely adore our heroine.  She is up there as one of my favourites that’s for sure.  She has intelligence, strength, vulnerability, and humour,  with sensuality that leaps off the pages.    She sure gives Ethan a run for his money, but she also provides an inner strength for him as well as compassion, yet she herself can be so fragile.  Brynne for me was the standout in this book.  She provided so much substance to the story and I found it became HER story even though it was told through Ethan’s voice.

Gitte:       Yes I agree completely Jenny; it almost became more about Brynne than Ethan. Brynne’s story told through Ethan’s POV….unusual and at times I am not sure whether this did not make Ethan lose some of his alpha-maleness if that makes any sense? But absolutely, no doubt, love Brynne!

Jenny:     Totally makes sense, I noticed that about Ethan as well. I really did like All In.  It was a good read. The chemistry between Ethan and Brynne was explosive and the sex scenes were HOT!   It was a very emotional at times, especially as I said before, when we experience their back stories.   It is a longer book than Naked, and I did find some things a bit repetitive at times.  One thing I will say and that is I am absolutely HANGING out for book 3  and can’t wait to see where Raine takes us next time.  What about you Gitte?  How did you find it?

Gitte:       I really did enjoy the actual story; it was sexy, passionate and thrilling.  It did however lose me a little bit in the middle, I think if it had been a short power packed punch like Naked was, I would have enjoyed it more. However, Raine was unfairly criticised for this by some readers so it’s one of those no win situations unfortunately. The last 20% or so was FAB and dragged me right back into the thick of things so I have to say I cannot wait for book 3!! Bring it on Raine!

Please note: We were requested to beta read  “All In” for British vernacular and continuity. Our review is based on the assumption that our changes and suggestions were adopted upon release.

Gitte:  I loved this novella.  And yes it is a novella first 1 of 3.  It is what it is….and does exactly what it says on the tin so can’t be judged on that.  It is fast paced, sexy and a clever piece of writing. The Prologue is IMPORTANT…

Jenny:   Sometimes I love novella’s.  That is, as long as they have enough depth, however sometimes they are just a fast read with not much happening.   Well this one was definitely the former.  Considering this was only 115 pages- the story for me, seemed to have enough depth and I found there was enough character development for the story to work well. To be honest, I’ve read 300 page books with less depth and character development.  Yes it was fast paced,  but the story never left me behind.  I really loved it.
And yes! The prologue IS important!

Gitte:   The characters are totally lovable especially the “Oh.My.Gawd you are HOT” Mr. Ethan Blackstone; you are not only lovable…you are completely shaggable!!!

Jenny:  Geez Ethan…………wow! Ethan…….can you tell I’m speechless here GG?  He is just DIVINE! And the authors inspiration for Ethan? Hold us back it’s David Gandy!!

Gitte:   It had a great storyline, well from what we were told so far, and the steam factor – off the charts!

Jenny:  I agree.  I loved the storyline. I was reading it on a flight and it certainly made that go quicker. I was totally engrossed in this story.  The steam factor – well, it was steaming alright! What a hot read it was.  Raine Miller can certainly write sex scenes that’s for sure!

Gitte:  So…I live just outside London, I was part of the run up to the Olympics…it made me feel part of this story. It became real and I was part of it…I mean I even saw Ethan at the opening Ceremony.  Oh sorry…hang on… I mean the gorgeous amazing man that is David Gandy.  Yeah true story for those of you who missed it! Okay I have to apologize here; I am obsessed with this man if you didn’t know this already.  Right I am drifting off the subject here….

Jenny:   Oh obsess away…..I’m right there with you girlfriend!  We do share a mutual love of all things Gandy don’t we?  Whoops…I lost track there for a minute as well. Yes, I loved how the Olympics build up was brought into it because it gave you a point of recognition and made you feel part of the story and I always love it when that happens.

Gitte:  So we have Brynne; our heroine. An American student, studying in London, who does some tasteful nude modelling in her spare time in order to make a bit of extra money. She has a past, which from the hints looks to be quite serious, affecting her emotionally, behaviourally and her way of life. I NEED to know what this is all about. Brynne is adorably sweet and I liked her, but she seems quite traumatized as I said by something/someone.

Jenny:   I really loved Brynne.  I don’t know how to explain it, but there was something about her that drew me in even before we learn that there is something troubling from her past. I found her relatable and really nice is all I can think of –I really did like her character.   She is living the good life and pretty much coasting along, studying art and doing part time nude modelling when Ethan comes “out of the blue” and rocks her world.  Can she give herself over to Ethan?

Gitte:  And then we have *sigh* Ethan Blackstone, English ex-special forces who now works for an elite security company.  True alpha male dominant and who or what Ethan wants; Ethan gets.  Ethan too seems to have something in the past that has affected him, making him the man he is today. So I cannot wait for the next book ‘All In’ to get his POV.

Jenny:   Ethan.  Meh he wasn’t much cop! Kidding!!!! !  This guy had it all. He was so alpha, so in tune with who he is and just says it how he sees or it….or does he?   The chemistry and the sex between Brynne and Ethan absolutely sizzles and you really do feel the connection between them.  I cannot wait to hear Ethan’s POV in the next book either! Thank goodness we don’t have to wait long because I couldn’t stand it!

“I want to be with you so badly right now.  I want to take you home with me, and put you in my bed and have hours and hours with your body wrapped in mine to do with as I wish.  I want to have you there in the morning so when we wake up I can make you come, saying my name”  (Oh okay Ethan, if you insist )

Gitte:    So, I am not going to say why or how, because that would spoil a lot….but he meets Brynne at the Gallery where her naked portrait is exhibited and this is where their journey begins. Ethan takes one look at her picture and knows he has to have her…

In Naked we have 2 Flawed Characters, Mystery, Ethan, Sex, London, Suspense & yeah Ethan….what more could you ask for?
Naked, despite being a novella, had a feel of 50 Shades and Bared to You I thought.
Oh and this novella has a HUGE cliff hanger and we all know how I feel about those and I don’t swear….much! That is all….

“The sex never ended with this man. And I was on board the sexy train right with him, flashing my frequent traveler pass.”     (where do we buy a ticket?)

Jenny:   It didn’t have a Fifty feel for me though – maybe because Ethan is more subtle if you like but it did have a Bared to You feel about it.
As you said GG, it may be a novella but it had plenty of story to keep me interested.

The cliffhanger…argghhh it did drive me nuts but at least we don’t have long to wait.  The Ethan POV chapter at the end had me chomping at the bit for the next book! Can’t wait.
