wethering the storm

Music journalist Tru Bennett has done the impossible: capture the heart of rock-star bad boy Jake Wethers. Now they’re busy planning a wedding and navigating their new life together in the US. Of course Tru misses London and her best friend, Simone, but living happily ever after with Jake in LA is going to be great…right?

Wrong. Even the bright California sun can’t whitewash the dark side of celebrity coupledom. Greedy music execs, merciless paparazzi, and Jake’s wild past are lurking around every corner. Making matters worse, Jake announces he doesn’t want kids, which just may be a deal breaker.

Tru loves Jake more than anything. But when a devastating crisis threatens to destroy everything they’ve fought for, the couple must face the hard truth: What if, this time, love is not enough?

~ Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning ~

For those of you who loved The Mighty Storm, hang on tight because I’m sure you’re going to love this next installment in the life that is Tru and Jake. Whilst it may not contain the heart thumping angst throughout that was so prevalent in TMS, there are scenes in Wethering The Storm that will leave you reeling and have you clutching your heart. I know they did mine.

“You don’t complete me, Tru. You make me who I am. You make me better. I’d be nothing without you. Nothing. I’ve been there once before, and I’m never going back. I’m never losing you again.”

We left Jake and Tru at the end of TMS with questions and decisions hanging in the balance. Tru was still feeling insecure in her relationship with Jake. Never really feeling she was good enough for him despite Jake’s insistence and actions to the contrary. There were still past issues lurking that hadn’t been completely resolved and Jake’s demons were like a cloud still hanging over his head and for Tru, living in Jake’s shadow was always going to be difficult.

“It’s not that I don’t trust him, I do. I just know how easily a slip can happen. I watched it happen to him before and I was blind to it, and it got too far too fast.I won’t let that happen again.”

In WTS both Jake and Tru shared so much growth. I especially loved watching Tru gain confidence and realise that yes, she was special, she was completely worthy of this man and she “got it”. She understood his complete devotion to her.

“There isn’t anything I won’t do for you, Tru. Nothing I won’t do to make you happy. What I feel for you…it’s limitless  There is nothing before or after you. There is only you.”

The story does lull you into a false sense of security in a way that it is a slow build before it wallops you upside the head, then has you sobbing and gripping your heart in fear and anticipation.

This book was more the progression of two people learning to live and love together, to deal with each other’s lives, each other’s baggage and each other’s insecurities and it is brought to life in such a beautiful fashion.

“Thank you.” This is the second time today he’s thanked me, and this time I have to ask why.

“For being with me. For giving me a chance at getting my life right.”

There were parts of this book that destroyed me. I sobbed and I felt every single moment and Jake especially brought me to my knees at times.  Other scenes had me in fits and there were most definitely parts that had me fanning myself! Wowsers, these two can certainly steam up the pages!

“In it, on it, anywhere and any way I can have you.”

The light-heartedness, the banter, the love, the passion, the mis-communication and the sensuality shared by Jake and Tru throughout WTS were just stepping stones to the adversity they would face down the track. When life throws an absolute curve ball at you, it takes something special and a strong bond to see you through. Having that person to lean on, depend on and love is what will see you through the other side.

“I’m afraid. Terrified. I can’t breathe. My heart hurts against my ribs. Hurts real bad.

Do Jake and Tru have possess that kind of bond? Has their relationship the substance required to bring them out the other end?  Will their experiences shatter them or strengthen them?

“But that isn’t what I want to hear. I don’t want to hear any of this. I don’t want to be here.”

In this instalment we are afforded the extra benefit of getting inside Jake’s head and what a ride that is.  I love this guy. He’s so….well….he is such a MAN! He’s alpha without being a dick. He’s strong, dependable and yet so sensitive at times and we get to witness first hand this man during those sensitive moment.  Be prepared because he will tear your heart open.

With Jake’s POV comes the opportunity to share the camaraderie between Jake, Tom and Denny first hand and what a lot of fun that was.  It cracked me up witnessing the banter and sheer naughtiness of their “guy” talk.  I loved listening to them reminisce and these moments felt so special.

“Yeah,  it has been a while. Too long.” I stare down into my glass. “You remember how we used to be out every night when Jonny was still here?”
Surprising myself as I say it, I realise saying his name doesn’t hurt as much as it used to. There was one point where I couldn’t even finish a sentence if his name was in it.

What I took away from these interactions was the feeling that these guys were Jake’s family. They were so important to each other, and without these guys Jake really wouldn’t have survived the issues he had dealt with in his past.

I will say upfront that I am a bit biased when it comes to this story as I was a beta on this book and saw it through from an inception to completion. To witness an idea form, to see it brought to life is indeed something special and an experience I will never forget.  I’ve formed a strong bond with these books and the characters. I feel as if I know them personally and I love them deeply and I will miss them terribly.

Wethering the Storm is the next chapter in Jake and Tru’s life. This book doesn’t have the constant angst of TMS but it’s not missed. This book is about two people living through their problems, building the foundations for their future and it’s a story that has heart, emotion , humour and heat. And what a fitting finale to the story of Tru and Jake it is.

It’s been twelve years since Tru Bennett last saw Jake Wethers, her former best friend and boy she once loved.

Jake Wethers, sexy, tattooed and deliciously bad lead singer, and brains behind The Mighty Storm, one of the biggest bands in the world, left Tru with a broken heart when he moved from England to America with his family when they were both fourteen.

Sent to interview Jake for her music column by the magazine she works for, they are both unprepared for the sparks that fly the instant they reconnect. Only, there’s a complication to their instant feelings for one another—Will, Tru’s boyfriend of two years.

Then Jake makes Tru a job offer she can’t refuse—travelling the world with him and his band. But taking the job means leaving Will behind, and being on the road with the band means spending an inordinate amount of time with Jake.

Is Tru strong enough to resist the delectable bad boy who once held her heart so completely, or will she willingly risk it all for one night with the world’s most notorious womanizer?

Where to start with The Mighty Storm?? First off, I loved this book.  I mean, I really loved this book! 5 star read for me without a doubt!

Really, what’s not to love?  There’s a hot, can’t be tamed, tattooed bad boy rock god named Jake Wethers…….(heart palpitations here – get me a defibrillator stat!!) for starters!

Not only that, it’s got romance, angst, drama, emotion, humour, music references, hot sex and oh did I mention hot, tattooed bad boy rock star Jake Wethers???

Now that I’ve got that out the way, let’s get serious.

This book wasn’t just about “gorgeous as all hell” Jake, although he was certainly a very pleasant part of the book ;).

The story is told through Tru’s (Trudy Bennett) eyes and centres on her and her former best friend Jake   finding each other after twelve years apart and realising they still have feelings they thought were long buried.

You will feel for Tru as she discovers feelings for Jake she knows she shouldn’t have.  He’s her former best friend, yes, she loved him as a teenager and he broke her heart when he left her at fourteen, but Tru has moved on.  She is in love with Will,  her wonderful boyfriend of two years and she must hold onto that relationship, whilst at the same time try to deny and conceal the feelings she has for Jake.

Jake (lead singer of The Mighty Storm) is dealing with past demons and Tru coming into his life gives him a purpose he didn’t know he needed until she returned.

In Jake, the author has managed to bring us a strong, alpha, hot, yet sensitive and loving male lead character who is humanly flawed and let me tell you ladies, this guy is going to be the stuff of women’s fantasies that’s for sure!

But not only has she managed to bring to life such wonderful characters in Tru and Jake, but also the supporting characters of the band, Denny, Tom, Smith and of course Jake’s PA Stuart who I just adored.

This book had it all for me.  It was a book about human relationships, human eff ups, human frailties and of course the world of a high profile rock star who tries to find a life of normality in a world of abnormality for himself and Tru.

Jake is a man who always gets what he wants, but will Tru be the one thing he can’t have?

“I’ve only ever loved one girl, Tru – and that’s you. It’s always been you. I loved you from the moment I knew how to love.”

I enjoyed every minute of this book, though I have to say, be prepared, because there were times that I actually clutched my chest and cried, such is the truthfulness of the writing in some of the scenes which you will discover throughout the book.
This is Samantha Towle’s first foray into the contemporary romance genre and wow! Did she nail it!

What I like about Samantha’s writing here is that she explores the little nuances of her characters that allows the reader the ability to feel like you’re actually part of this story . Allows you to be a part of the world that is Jake, Tru and The Mighty Storm.  You will feel like you’re really there with them, in the room and living this story through Tru’s eyes.

I love nothing more than finding a book that has the ability to draw me in and hold me there until the very last page.    A book where I can feel what the characters feel and see what the characters see.  It makes me feel a part of something and enables me to “live” the book rather just ” read” a story and that’s exactly how I felt experiencing The Mighty Storm.

I’m not going to go into details about the story because to give anything away would be an injustice to other readers and I want them to experience this book as I did.  To experience it the way the author intended it to be read.

Yes readers…….. freeze some dinners, hold the housework, tell the family to fend for themselves because once you start reading The Mighty Storm, you are not going to want to put it down!

Be sure to keep reading and click past the end because there a little “bonus” at the back you won’t want to miss!

First Bitten (The Alexandra Jones series) – by Samantha Towle

I have read alot of paranormal romance by various authors, I love it!!! However, it’s one og those genre’s where you can often find that one book bleeds into another and the element of surprise and that “something new” is lacking. Well all I have to say to that is if you agree you should read First Bitten (book one of a series).

This is my first Samantha Towle book and I LOVED it, she had me hooked right from the start. It’s one of those books that you wish you had the time to sit and read in one go because you need to know!! I was a bit worried at first with it being set in the UK because it could so easily have gone the other way for me, I knew I’d be more critical but this author’s writing immediately got rid of those worries because for want of a better word her writing is effortless and it could be set anywhere, it’s that good.

First Bitten is a contemporary paranormal romance which is so refreshing because it’s real, believable, and we live in this world (and yeah I mean with the shifters, vampires and werewolves – somewhere there’s an alarm going off and a straight jacket is being prepared for me right now lol..)!! All the characters in this book are human in the sense that they have compassion, they love, they hurt, they are not perfect and they FEEL. Because they are “so real” the emotions felt by the characters mirror the ones felt by the reader..and yes I felt every emotion, I cried, laughed, got mad and… *sigh*…swooned!!

I don’t want to spoil too much…..

This journey begins when Alex and her friend Carrie are walking home slightly worse for wear from a night out. Alex has a phone call from her cheating ex Eddie and throws her phone away in anger. Whilst the girls are looking for the phone Alex is bitten by a Varcolac (which we later find out is a vampire-werewolf hybrid) and Carrie…. 🙁 !!!

So this is where we meet Nathan (*sigh*… gorgeous, alpha hot but frustrating and closed off…just how I like!!!!) who finds her, brings her home to his shifter family and nurses her back to health and offers her his and his father Jack and brother Sol’s protection.

A female bitten by a Varcolac does not normally survive so Alex becomes a valuable commodity for the strength and the survival of that race so Nathan’s family know they must keep her hidden while they prepare her for her “new life”. Alex has to very quickly come to terms with what has happened and grieve the loss of her life as she knew it.

There are so many twists and turns it will literally keep you on the edge of your seat but it’s not so fast paced for a first book that you don’t know what is going on and feel confused!

The sexual tension between Nathan and Alex is HOT and the chapter from Nathan’s pov was fab. I love when I get to hear the voice of not just our heroine but our hero too!! I hope there is more of that in book 2 because Nathan is still a bit of a mystery, granted a hot mystery, but he doesn’t give too much away and I want to fix him!!

I have to say though..the ending, the cliffhanger WHY???!!! I am no good with fact I think I hate them….I NEED book 2 like right now!!!

Original Sin (The Alexandra Jones series #2) – by Samantha Towle

I LOVE LOVE LOVE when I discover a new Author and find their first book to be amazing. Then I always get worried, if it’s a series, what if the 2nd one fails to keep up?..Huge pressure!!

Well, how much do I LOVE Samantha Towle right now??? A bloody LOT…she is FAB-U-LUSH!!! This book was FAB!!! And I got to say that having the image of Tom Hardy in my head as Nathan WHOA big big big CAM!!!!!

So as I said Original Sin is the second book in Alexandra Jones series and I was hooked from First Bitten so was chuffed to bits there wasn’t long to go before this one cause I HATE cliffhangers!!

I don’t do spoilers so….Alex is now on the run from the Originals continuously running from country to country ending up in Italy where she meets Zeff. (I got a bit of a crush on him and felt really bad, like I was cheating on Nathan here, but even Alex did so it’s all good!!) She still loves Nathan though….(so do I!!!!!)

I love Alex…she is so REAL, funny and in this book she really came into her own!! All Ms. Independent, Kick-Ass and In Control!!

And Nathan *sigh* …. I LOVED that we got his POV!!! He is in such need of fixing..all bad-ass hot alpha male with that can you not love him?!?!

The relationship between Alex and Nathan is Yummy HOT..I mean the scene in the …. (not going to tell)!! They are pretty perfect for each other that’s all!!

This book has got so many twists and turns it is impossible to put it down…The need to know is intense and I had so many conspiracy theories in my head whilst reading, it kept me guessing which is great, I hate the obvious!!

Well done Sam, I can’t wait for the 3rd book!!!
