ENTWINED WITH YOU (Crossfire Series #3) by SYLVIA DAY

The worldwide phenomenon continues as Eva and Gideon face the demons of their pasts, and accept the consequences of their obsessive desires…

From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat.

No one knows how much he risked for me. How much I’d been threatened, or just how dark and desperate the shadow of our pasts would become.

Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds. We made our own rules and surrendered completely to the exquisite power of possession…

Review by Jenny & Gitte

Gitte:  “Angel, a crowd of millions couldn’t hide you from me. I found you once. I’ll always find you.” We waited a long time….then he came. The luscious Gideon and he did not disappoint. I was reminded why I fell in love and lust with him the minute I met him in ‘Bared to You’ back in April last year.  He’s always been the enigma, the guarded, controlling and possessive alpha male who’s passionate yet ‘secrecy personified’.

“Honestly, Gideon Cross had been designed to fuck a woman right out of her mind.”

In Entwined we got to see a very different side to him as we learnt more of his past and in my opinion this book became Gideon’s story, we begin to learn and understand why  he‘s the man he is though I’m guessing there is still more to come. I have to say one scene nearly killed me and I had tears reading it. He showed his vulnerability to Eva who became the strong and secure one and opened up…. I melted! He still loves with an intensity that is beyond words and wow does Ace love his Angel!!

“I ache for you….Crave you constantly. Snap your fingers and I’m hard…When I come I come for you. Because of you and your mouth, hands and insatiable little (&*%@).  And it’ll be that way for you in reverse. My tongue, my fingers, my (*&%) inside you. Just you and me, Eva. Intimate and raw.”

This couple has always been one of my favourites. I love Gideon and Eva, who they are individually and who they are together.

“You were with me. The whole time. There wasn’t a second that passed when you weren’t on my mind. You own me, Eva. Wherever I am, whatever I’m doing, I belong to you.”

Their journey is complicated, it’s full of obstacles that are thrown at them at every turn and they are their own worst enemies a lot of the time.

“You’ll never lose me, angel…Wherever you go, however far, I’ll be right here with you.”

However, one thing they both completely agree on is that they are each other’s soul mates.  One cannot function without the other. Their love is extreme bordering on obsession, their connection and attraction intense and passionate.

“I can’t keep my hands off you. That should be enough to tell you I don’t need more.”

So yes, I was unbelievable excited to have them back for another installment. What about you Jenny?

Jenny: Gitte! I was beyond excited when I saw “Entwined With You “had finally been delivered to Ken! I couldn’t wait to devour it and yes, being back with Gideon and Eva was like catching up with old, albeit intense, friends who I had missed desperately.  .  These two damaged souls are still working to become a whole and theirs is definitely not a straightforward route. They are soul mates, you really feel that there will NEVER be anyone for either of them except each other and yes, their love and passion for one another really does border on an obsession.  Theirs is an addiction!

“…the magnetic pull of being near the other half of my soul.”

The trademark passion and intensity of this couple is still there.  The sex is as hot as Hades (that CLUB SCENE!!! I’m still hot and bothered thinking about that now…wow!) and we learn a little more about the very guarded Gideon and what makes this man tick.

“Gideon was an untamed animal behind closed doors, a lover who bared me to the soul every time he made love to me.”

Witnessing the vulnerable side of Gideon completely did me in. I know exactly the scene you’re referring to Gitte and yes, I had tears as well.  To see this strong, determined, alpha possessive man – and he is SO unbelievably MALE – suffer his demon’s was exactly why I love the story that is Gideon and Eva. They read each other so well in those times of vulnerability and seem to sense exactly what each needs.

“I’m damned glad you like what you see, because God knows I fucking love looking at you.”

These two have always communicated so well with sex. They are insatiable for each other but they are also communicating on an emotional level. Learning to express and trust in one another, to listen and love, though I have to say, at times, the sex did overtake the emotion for me and for that reason I didn’t feel the depth of emotion between the two that I had experienced in the previous books.

“I don’t want all the time we spend together to be about what’s wrong and fucked up in our lives!”

But…they are finally communicating and that’s a good thing.

Gitte: What did I love other than Angel & Ace? Well, Eva’s Dad completely broke my heart. The scenes with him and Eva when he makes the discovery surrounding Nathan, I was in bits…crying my eyes out. I loved the relationship again between Eva and Cary…the friendship, the love and the banter.  Sylvia Day is a brilliant Author. Her writing is sensual and emotional, dramatic and intriguing and she hooks me every-time.

So, what was I not too enamoured with in this third instalment? Well, I‘ve loved Cary since book #1. I’ve been and am a huge advocator of him getting his own book. I love him! In this one though; I found his attitude to his ‘relationships’ bizarrely out of character bordering on disrespectful. He’s such a gorgeous and loving man, an amazing friend to Eva, he’s fair and just. I’m not sure why he’s suddenly changed in such a way that this time he came across in a really bad light. His judgement and decisions were in my opinion out of character. I hope he reverts back to what made him so endearingly special in the next story because I was really disappointed with his attitude and disregard of his attitude to his ‘relationships’.

My other issue was the way the story started to drag in the middle with the addition of unnecessary “plot bumpers” (I won’t mention what they were as it will give spoilers to the story), not sure why they were deemed necessary. The journey of Angel & Ace can continue on its own as there is still so much to learn about Gideon and his past and no matter what, I would have and definitely will pick up every book being released in this series…I mean how could I not?? This is Gideon and Eva we’re talking about here and of course the gorgeous and brilliant Sylvia Day!

Now, I read Entwined before the controversy began, so I’d already rated and compiled my thoughts and emotions on this story. My opinions remain my own and will never be influenced or swayed by anyone other than myself. I don’t succumb to Reader or Author pressure and I will never subscribe to it.

On that note, I really enjoyed Entwined, yes it had its issues and it was not my favourite in this series so far, but that is purely based on content not the storm brewing in the proverbial tea-cup.

“If souls could be mated with wishes, ours would be inextricably entwined.”

Jenny: I agree with everything you’ve said above Gitte and have only to add that the main issue for me was Brett. Or more precisely what Eva experiences when she is around Brett.  Now, to Eva Gideon Cross is this all-consuming man who she is deeply in love with, has this insatiability for 24/7 , can’t live without and who fulfills ALL her sexual needs and wants.

“I needed him like I needed my heart to beat..”

Yet..she practically gets wet panties whenever she’s within 100 feet of Brett.  Not only that but she feels the need to use Cary as a cockblocker and have meetings with him in public places because of the effect he has on her.

The whole Brett thing only served to lessen, for me, the level of commitment she feels for Gideon. Yes, she’s human and Brett’s hot, but really? She needs Cary to ensure things don’t get out of hand and give Brett the wrong idea, whereas I get the impression it’s Eva who needs to be kept in check.

I started to witness the beginning of the controversy unfold over this book but like you Gitte, I’m never swayed by other’s opinions and moved on to EWY to form my own opinion and my opinion is this. Despite the issues I had, I really did enjoy Entwined With You.  No, it wasn’t my favourite of the series, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.   As you said Gitte, being back with Gideon and Eva was a place I looked forward to being and enjoyed.

Now, onto the dreaded subject of further books.  Do I wish this had been a trilogy? Well, yes I do. It kills me to think of these two suffering through more books. Will I read the next 2 books?  Well, hell yeah!!  As I said before I’m invested in the journey of Gideon and Eva and I have FOMO. I can’t miss out and I won’t miss out. Will I love those next books?  Well, I don’t have a crystal ball so I can’t say. What I can say is this. I have to trust Sylvia Day.  I have to trust she loves her characters enough to do them justice. I can only guess that what Sylvia Day feels for Gideon and Eva has to be tenfold of my feelings for them and with that in mind, I trust Sylvia knows where she is going with this series and that she won’t let her readers or Gideon and Eva down.

I am a huge Sylvia Day fan. Seven Years to Sin is one of my favourite reads…EVER! And I refuse to believe an author who can produce something as wonderful as that book and  Crossfire books would ever further this series just for money.  I can’t believe she would ever sell her characters out. I just can’t allow myself to believe that. Oh I know some of you out there are rolling your eyes at me and saying I’m naïve, but as a passionate reader I have to believe that an author is so deeply in love with her characters that whilst the $$ are enticing, ultimately it’s the telling of the story the characters want them to tell that is the driving force behind allowing their readers to spend more time with them.

I really enjoyed Entwined With You and I am trusting Sylvia to bring us closure we all want for Gideon and Eva. I’m trusting her to deliver them the happiness and the healing they so rightly deserve and yes,  I will be there every step of the way.

“I was the one person who knew every dark, tormented secret he had, and I loved him desperately anyway.”

I love these characters with all my heart and as much as I would have liked it to end with ETW, I am also happy I’m going to be afforded the chance to spend a little more time with Gideon and Eva.

Oh and fyi Sylvia Day…if you feel like writing one of your next books as an MM with Cary and Trey…well, you’ll get no arguments from us!!!

Gitte: 4 stars
Jenny: 4 stars

Reflected in You (Book #2 Crossfire Series) by Sylvia Day

Gideon Cross. As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn’t stay away. I didn’t want to. He was my addiction… my every desire… mine.

My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful… except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity.

We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession…

Gitte:  I am in absolute awe of Sylvia Day. The journey of Gideon and Eva got even more sensual, obsessive, raw and emotional in Reflected in You. It was exhausting, gripping and my heart hurt more than I can say as I devoured it in one sitting.

Jenny:  I had seen the snippets of this book on Sylvia’s page and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and it didn’t disappoint.  I couldn’t put this book down. I was drawn in from the very beginning.
This book is intense, emotional, at times frustrating (yes…I’m talking about you Gideon…you tested me at times!), passionate, sensual and at times sad.  It had everything for me.

Quote:  “I’m obsessed with you, angel. Addicted to you. You’re everything I’ve ever wanted or needed, everything I’ve ever dreamed of. You’re everything. I live and breathe you. For you.” – Gideon

Gitte:   I felt like a voyeur,  one minute sighing with relief that this emotionally damaged couple had found in each other a way to heal and know they are worthy of love and love in return without conditions and the next frustrated at the game playing and the circles they run around each other. Their journey is both painful and emotional yet erotic and addictive.

Jenny:   There’s no getting around it.  Eva and Gideon are scarred and damaged.  Their pasts haunt them and we are taken on the rollercoaster that is their relationship and we get the whole gamut of emotions with this one.  These two use sex as a way of dealing with their feelings instead of talking, but soon realise sex isn’t enough to sustain the relationship they want to nurture.  There are times you want to shake them both, especially Gideon.  They are extremely passionate in their emotions and their sexual encounters are so hot and sensual you will need to fan yourself.  These two absolutely set the pages on fire.

Quote: “You know what happens when you run angel. I catch you.” – Gideon

Gitte:   If at all possible I fell even more in love with Gideon and Eva. We re-join them in their continued fight to exist together in their relationship. So dependent on each other it is an obsession and addiction. Gideon and Eva cannot function without each other. They need each other.

Both are tortured survivors of sexual abuse which has left them with open wounds so deep that translated into behaviour, their love for each other becomes this obsessive and almost violent entity.

Jenny:  Gideon and Eva have “survived” – violent, abusive pasts.  Up until they meet they have simply gone through the motions of dealing and have used sex as a coping mechanism in their lives. These two need each other like they need air to breathe.  They can’t function a day without each other.  Both are sensual, sexual, passionate and emotional people.  I love Eva.  She is one of my favourite book heroines.  I love that even though she is damaged and openly admits her faults and even thought her desperate need for Gideon borders on obsession she still remains a strong character and is such a good equal to Gideon.
Gideon……just when I thought I couldn’t love him more I do! This man is one of the sexiest, alpha characters I have read.  He worships and adores Eva and loves her without exception.
The scene when he is brushing her hair…………just wait…that did me in!

Quote:  “My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful… except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity. We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession.”

Gitte:  They know this and acknowledge it by seeking couple therapy in order to understand just what a healthy and normal relationship really is and learn how to trust one another.  What Gideon and Eva don’t lack is sexual compatibility. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts; intense, powerful and will literally set you on fire.

Jenny:  You are spot one GG.  These two have sexual chemistry that just burns the pages.  Every sexual encounter with these two is off the charts.

Quote::  “You hit me the instant I saw you. I couldn’t look away. I wanted you immediately. Excessively. Almost violently.” – Gideon

Quote:  “A delicious shiver moved through me. When it came to Gideon, I was more than willing to be devoured.” – Eva

Gitte:  YEAH DON’T WE ALL!!! Especially when we picture Gideon as the gorgeous David Gandy!

Jenny:  As if Gideon isn’t hot enough…add David Gandy into the mix and whoa!!!

Quote:  “His kisses were gifts. He kissed with everything he had, with power and passion and hunger and love. He held nothing back, giving everything, exposing everything.” – Eva

Quote:  “You’re the greatest risk I’ve ever taken. And the greatest reward.” – Gideon

Gitte:  Gideon is such an enigma.  But what an amazing, gorgeous and sensual dominating enigma. I LOVE him. Truly, madly, deeply!
This man shares nothing about his past or even his present.  He does, however, show Eva how powerful his love for her is.

Jenny:  I loved Gideon in Bared to You, but in this book….apart from the times he was so secretive I wanted to slap him – oh who am I kidding, even then  I loved him.  This man is intense, domineering, incredibly sexy and so alpha, yet he shows his love for Eva in so many ways.  There is nothing he wouldn’t do for her – she has become his reason for living.  His reason for breathing.  He cannot function without her.

Gitte: Besides the sexual intensity, he also shows it through control and demand, protection and comfort.  My heart broke for him, the thought of this little boy who suffered; who grew up and is still suffering through horrific nightmares.  Nightmares through which he is petrified he will eventually harm Eva.
Ultimately secrets will out but until they do insecurities and doubts will flourish. You put your heart out there it may eventually be hurt by both truths and lies.

Jenny:   My heart broke for him too GG, especially with how he would deal with his nightmares.  He was hurting and so was Eva but they had to do what was necessary for them both to get through their turmoil. I did feel that both characters grew such much at the end of this book.

Quote: “Are you hurt anywhere else?” I asked, feeling so emotionally raw after the long night we’d had. He caught my wrist and pulled my hand down to press flat over his heart. “Here.”

Gitte:  The anticipation of not knowing was frustrating and heart breaking but once you know the why’s and things come to light, you understand and WANT Gideon just as he is and you will realize that the love he has for Eva has no limits. Even Eva who is a strong heroine already, shows some real back bone in this story and the pair of them as dysfunctional, possessive and jealous as they are also show extreme vulnerability and tenderness.
The ending will leave you stunned. It will literally blow your mind…it’s going to be a long 3 months until we get Entwined with You!!

Jenny:  I must admit there was a time in this story when I got so frustrated with Gideon.  I can’t say much because I don’t want to give anything away but boy did he test me.  Eva really came through in this book.  What a great character she is.  I adore her! Her love for Gideon is beyond question and in return he has a love so strong for Eva there is nothing he wouldn’t do for her.  These two will take you one hell of a ride that’s for sure! There will be times when you’ll wonder just what the hell is going with these two –  I found myself actually wanting to skip pages to see what was going to happen because I became so anxious!  Just you wait!  This story is so well crafted when the ending comes it will leave you breathless and chomping at the bit for Entwined with You! I know I can’t wait and I also know what I’m doing on December 31st!

The Stranger I Married – Sylvia Day

the stranger i married

Gray was beautiful before, four years ago when he asked Isabel to wed him in a marriage of convenience. Now there are no words to describe him. He is no longer a boyish rogue, not by any stretch of the imagination, but a tormented man, driven by secrets, silent about what he’s done since he disappeared.

Isabel knew how to handle the reckless youth he’d been, but this new husband of hers… this darkly passionate man is not tamable. Does she dare explore the places inside herself that Gray demands to possess? Does she trust him enough to bare herself completely to a lover who is an irresistible stranger?

4.5 stars
This book was quite simply,  luscious.

If I keep reading these wonderful Historical Romances I’m going to run out of adjectives before too long.

What’s this book about?

Lady Pelham could not have designed a husband more suited to her needs. The Marquess of Grayson is a dear and enchanting friend and an unrepentant ladies man. Their union is solid; their hearts safe from one another. But every marriage has its surprises…

They Were Together For All The Wrong Reasons

They are London’s most scandalous couple. Isabel, Lady Pelham, and Gerard Faulkner, Marquess of Grayson, are well matched in all things – their lusty appetites, constant paramours, wicked wits, provocative reputations, and their absolute refusal ever to ruin their marriage of convenience by falling in love with one another. Isabel knows such a charming rake will never appeal to her guarded heart, nor will she sway his philandering one. It is a most agreeable sham – until a shocking turn of events sends Gerard from her side.

Now, four years later, Gerard has come home to Isabel. But the carefree, boyish rogue who left has been replaced by a brooding, powerful, irresistible man who is determined to seduce his way into her affections. Gone is the devil-may-care companion who shared her friendship and nothing more, and in his place is temptation itself – a husband who desires Isabel body and soul and who will stop at nothing to win her love. No, this is not at all the man she had married. But he is the man who might finally steal her heart.

The building of trust between Isabella (Pel) and Gray was slow but by no means tedious. The sexual tension and passion between these two was palpable and built up as the book went on.

I was drawn to these characters and really wanted them to have their HEA after both living through disastrous relationships that made them wary of loving and trusting again.

The secondary characters were all important to the book and, as in Seven Years In Sin, there is another love story simmering beautifully in the background also blossomed throughout the book.

I devoured every page of this book and Sylvia once again took me on a sweeping journey back in time and had me living every moment with the characters as if I was there with them.

This is the 3rd book I’ve read from this author and so far I have loved all three.

Bared to You (Crossfire #1) – by Sylvia Day

Sexy series with possessive alpha male

From #1 “New York Times” bestselling author Sylvia Day comes the provocative masterstroke of abandon and obsession that redefined the meaning of desire and became a global phenomenon…
“Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness.”
He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily
Gideon “knew.” He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each others most private wounds and desires.
The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart “

5 blinding stars!

My first Sylvia Day book…and I am in a state of “How did I not know about this author till now??!!”

This book is AMAZING I can’t stop thinking about it. Every time I had to put it down for one reason or another I was thinking about it. I finished it this morning and I am still thinking about it!! Seriously WOW!!!!!

I have had NO sleep since I started it… well barely …I did nod off for an hour last night and was so annoyed with myself I mean who needs sleep right?! So I have to tell you to read this book…it was an emotional journey, it was completely addictive and it was amazingly HOT!! Seriously “knicker cam’ing hot” top of the cam-o-meter HOT!!! My girls will know what I am saying here!!! LOL…..

Gideon and Eva are two very damaged people who find in each other what they need to absolve and free themselves…but that does not come easy!! Like Eva asked:

“Can two dysfunctional people have a functional relationship?”

I loved Eva, she was strong, knew what she wanted and went for it, she is a survivor! She is probably one of my favorite book heroines, her story touched my heart and her survival was inspiring!

And…Gideon…I have barely any words for how much I LOVE him! Gideon is “damaged”, he is haunted, he is amazing, he is controlling, HOT, sex on legs…yeah I could go on and on…I am speculating like crazy trying to figure out by what and who he was scarred by and even though I have a sneaky feeling I CANNOT wait for book 2..I need it like right now!!

Oh and I don’t want to forget Cary…beautiful damaged soul…I need to know what happens next for him!

The relationship between Gideon and Eva is so intense, absolutely beautiful, two tortured souls trying to make it right. The passion between them…bloody hell…it had me hooked from the start.

I know this is going to be in my top reads of 2012!!

Seven Years to Sin – by Sylvia Day

seven years to sin

The longer the resistance…

Seven years ago, on the eve of her wedding, proper Lady Jessica Sheffield witnessed a licentious scene no innocent young miss could imagine. Shocked, yet strangely titillated, she’d held her silence regarding scandalous Alistair Caulfield, and walked down the aisle as expected. But through years of serene, unremarkable marriage, Caulfield’s image remained burned into her imagination, fueling very illicit dreams…

…the sweeter the reward

Alistair ran far from the temptation of the prim debutante with the fire of passion in her eyes–all the way to the West Indies. As a successful merchant, he has little in common with the rakehell youth she knew. But when newly widowed Jessica steps aboard his ship for a transatlantic passage, seven years’ worth of denied pleasures are held in check by nothing more than a few layers of silk–and the certainty that surrender will consume them both…

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I loved EVERYTHING about this book, the way it was written, the story and I LOVED Alistair & Jessica! This book consumed me and I devoured it knowing it will stay with me forever!

The journey of Alistair and Jessica begins with chaste looks and comes to a head one evening when Jessica stumbles upon a “scene” in a gazebo involving Alistair, where what she witnesses, proceeds to spark a change in her and stays with her until 7 years later when this night becomes pivotal to her future.

Jessica thought Alistair “the handsomest man she’d ever seen. Exotically so. Blatantly seductive. More than slightly dangerous. Delicious.” “He exuded raw sensuality that was nothing less than addictive. When she wasn’t with him, she wished to be.” – Yeah me too!

Seven years later Jessica who is now a grieving widow looks to overcome her grief and move on with her life. To do so she decides to travel to Jamaica to deal with property belonging to her late husband. Alistair, who has had strong feelings for Jessica since the night by the gazebo decides to travel with her and begins his “wooing” (lol)of her.

“Jessica – a woman he’d known was meant to be his from the moment he first saw her”..”She’d snared him completely that long-ago night, bewitched him beyond redemption. There was no other choice for him. Somehow, he had to make himself the only choice for her.”

“I have wanted you for so long now he said roughly, I’ve no memory of how it feels to be devoid of the craving. But you must know what you do. I need you to think of who you are and where you are and who I am. Think of how things will be once we’ve crossed this threshold…”

Neither Alistair nor Jessica could anticipate the depth of their emotion, their attraction or connection which began seven years earlier.

Both Alistair and Jessica have tragic pasts and are in need of fixing. They have to learn to open up and deal with the pasts that have marked them and learn to love and trust. They need to find their future, the key to their individual happiness and the happiness they can find together.

“You and I have always been inevitable. And I am not a man to take pieces of a whole. I must have everything. The good as well as the bad”. – Alistair

“What there is between you and me has never been safe, nor will it ever be. You have to accept our attraction for what it is, with all it’s faults and detriments, trusting that it will be worth whatever the costs may be” – Alistair.

“Do you truly want to delve into the unsavory aspects of my past? I confess, I would rather you think of me as a romantic figure than one who is flawed and damaged”. – Alistair

Their journey is one amazing heart wrenching and SIZZLING HOT ride made more so by the language and the romance of the time in which it is set.

“There, he said, drawing her attention to a gazebo set in a clearing to the left of where they ascended. The structure was immediately recognizable – it was a miniature replica of the one on the Pennington estate…” – *SIGH*!!!!

This book has so many twists and turns and the drama, and other characters such as Michael and Hester, running alongside the beautiful story of Alistair and Jessica adds to the edge of your seat reading!!

I am in awe of Sylvia Day right now; the way in which she hooked me and taught me the appreciation of historical romance. This is a must read!
