BOSSMAN by VI KEELAND

4.5 Star REVIEW :: BOSSMAN by VI KEELAND

Standalone : Fun, flirty and at times, emotional romance.

SYNOPSIS

The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn’t exactly make a good impression.

I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date.

He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice.

So I told him to mind his own damn business—his own tall, gorgeous, full-of-himself damn business—and went back to my miserable date.

When he walked by my table, he smirked, and I watched his arrogant, sexy ass walk back to his date.

I couldn’t help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room. Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked.

When the gorgeous stranger and his equally hot date suddenly appeared at our table, I thought he was going to rat me out.

But instead, he pretended we knew each other and joined us—telling elaborate, embarrassing stories about our fake childhood.

My date suddenly went from boring to bizarrely exciting.

When it was over and we parted ways, I thought about him more than I would ever admit, even though I knew I’d never see him again.

I mean, what were the chances I’d run into him again in a city with eight million people?
Then again…

What were the chances a month later he’d wind up being my new sexy boss?

BOSSMAN

Reviewed by Jenny & Gitte

“Don’t ask me to explain it, but when I’m around you, I’m happy. That’s all I’m after.”

Vi Keeland has a formula that really works for us. Whether she is writing solo or in collaboration with Penelope Ward, we know exactly what we’re in for and trust her to sweep us up in a fabulously entertaining read and with Bossman she once again delivered exactly what our mood craved.

We were treated to a stack of grin inducing witty banter between two fabulous characters, teased mercilessly with some sizzling sexual chemistry, treated to some steamy sex as well as finding ourselves welling up a few times with emotion as Vi Keeland delivered a romance we quite simply devoured.

…he had me stuttering. Literally.
“Ch..Ch…Ch – “I couldn’t get the word out.
He smirked and leaned in. “You do a cute train impression, Buttercup.”

Let’s start with Chase Parker…..oh dear lord ladies…this guy! He is the whole package (and he has a VERY impressive package to boot!): he’s cocky, exceptionally good looking, has charm oozing out of every pore of his very lickable abs, and is blessed with intellect, wealth, success a tatt and nipple piercing plus he’s a bloody lovely, dirty talking, sweet and a somewhat vulnerable character…see what we mean…Chase Parker is perrrrrrfection!

“I’m up for the challenge.”
“What challenge?”
“Waiting it out. Or breaking you down. One or the other.”
“You’re going to wait until I don’t work here anymore? What if I stay for years?”
“It won’t be years…you’ll break before then.”

After a chance meeting with Chase Parker, little did Reese Annesley realise he would one day be her boss…her very hot, very persistent boss!  Reese hasn’t had a lot of luck in the relationship department and after a very drunk moment and lapse of judgement sees her sleeping with her boss, forcing Reese to leave her job and hence, she ends up working for Parker Industries, the company owned by the very hot (we know we’ve said it before but it bears repeating) Chase Parker.

“I think you’ve lost it, Bossman.”

The chemistry between Reese and Chase is immediately explosive but once bitten (we’d love to bite Chase) twice shy for Reese. Considering what happened at her last job, she’s sworn off fraternising with her boss – after all, if they did hook up, and it ended badly she’d be once again pounding the unemployment pavement so despite the feelings he stirs in her, she tries to avoid his advances, but Chase is one persistent gorgeous man and a girl only has so much resolve against his charms.

‘What an extraordinary talent for a man to have – the ability to incite with only a look.’

We loved how we came to know what the younger Chase how what had happened in his past made up the man he is today. Chase experienced a heartbreaking, painful and life changing moment which we are told through flashbacks in Chase’s pov with present time being told in Reece’s pov. The way this was delivered  added a certain anticipation to the story Chase’s tragic past slowly unfolded.

Both Reese and Chase were damaged by events in their past which still haunted them. Each is vulnerable in their own way. At first the chemistry between them is physical but as the shift moves to the heart, painful pasts are brought into play.

We adored this book! It delivered everything we could have asked for and that epilogue…swoooon! Fans of romance will devour Bossman just as we did so don’t hesitate to pick it up! When you start and finish a book with a huge smile on your face, you know it’s a winner!

‘He wasn’t my first, wasn’t even my second or third, but something about the way he looked at me made me feel like he was – like it was going to be my first real time, and I had no idea why.’

STUCK UP SUIT by VI KEELAND & PENELOPE WARD
Standalone – sexy sweet second chance romance

Standalone

SYNOPSIS

It started out like any other morning on the train.
Until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle.
He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world.
Who did the stuck-up suit think he was…God?
Actually, he looked like a God. That was about it.
When his stop came, he got up suddenly and left. So suddenly, he dropped his phone on the way out.
I might have picked it up.
I might have gone through all of his photos and called some of the numbers.
I might have held onto the mystery man’s phone for days―until I finally conjured up the courage to return it.
When I traipsed my ass across town to his fancy company, he refused to see me.
So, I left the phone on the empty desk outside the arrogant jerk’s office.
I might have also left behind a dirty picture on it first though.
I didn’t expect him to text back.
I didn’t expect our exchanges to be hot as hell.
I didn’t expect to fall for him―all before we even met.
The two of us couldn’t have been any more different.
Yet, you know what they say about opposites.
When we finally came face to face, we found out opposites sometimes do more than attract―we consumed each other.
Nothing could have prepared me for the ride he took me on. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for where I’d wind up when the ride was over.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

“Can I tell you a secret?”
“Yes.”
“You terrify me, Soraya.”
“Likewise.”

We loved this book! We  do love an arrogant arsehole with a romantic heart, so it goes without saying that we fell truly, madly and deeply in love with Mr Big Prick aka Graham J Morgan in this chance meeting romance that began through a lost phone on a train brought and about a story that was sexy and sweet with enough angst to put a nervous knot in our stomachs, palpable sexual chemistry and witty banter mixed with some sinfully sexy dirty talking by Mr Morgan all made for an enjoyable read!

“I’m nervous, Graham. I feel like you could swallow me whole.”
“I’ve been trying to.”
“Yes, that, too. But you know what I mean?”
“You’re afraid I’m going to hurt you.”
“Yes.”

Despite bearing the scars from their pasts, Graham Morgan and Soraya Venedetta were such fun and heart-warming characters and OMG! We couldn’t wait for these two to finally get down to some horizontal (and vertical) business because the build-up was making us all hot and bothered and yeah…..things between the sheets didn’t disappoint, because this book was hot!

Soraya entered Graham’s world like a meteorite, calling him out on his cantankerous and obnoxious behaviour, and from the very first ‘meeting’ she had our Graham wrapped up in knots with her big brown eyes, voluptuous body, witty sense of humour and an intolerance for his bullshit. She aroused, agitated and awakened something in Graham that had this Oscar the Grouch in a state of constant arousal and confusion.

“What do you know, the devil had the face of an angel, in fact, Soraya Venedetta was a bombshell. My dick twitched in excitement.”

Graham J Morgan! Oh dear god, this man could melt knickers at twenty paces and despite his flaws, he still managed to tick ALL the boxes. This arrogant, cocky, possessive, ridiculously sexy, dirty talking hottie, with a sweetness that had us swooning and penchant for cheesy soap operas that had us giggling could put his expensive loafers under our bed any day, we just wouldn’t want to work for him because he was one crabby boss! He was such a belligerent little shit who had his staff continually walking on eggshells and could pin you with a death stare to make your knees quake.

‘If being an asshole were an art form, then I’d mastered it. The more successful I became, the easier it was.’

Graham was so closed off emotionally, yet he wore his heart on his sleeve. He could be such a condescending rude bastard one minute, deliver some very hot dirty talk the next, and then be incredibly sweet and sincere at the turn of a penny.

We adored this book and we’re loving this writing partnership! Individually these authors are an automatic must read for us, and together these ladies bring an entertaining and fun read to life and turn it into something special.  We enjoyed the twist in general and didn’t see it coming however, there was only one particular action carried out that deflated us a little as we felt it went against character, was a little immature and unnecessary and blighted an otherwise perfect story we love immensely.

“You have a way of turning me into mush, Venedetta.”

We particularly loved the banter between Graham and his Grandmother, Meme. This relationship was delightful and heartfelt, and spoke volumes about the man who hid beneath the arrogant, cocky and cranky façade and we’d have been thrilled if that was explored further. We definitely recommend picking up this addictive swoony, hot and romantic read!

“Don’t be a afraid to get hurt. It’s far better than never experiencing anything earth-shattering. Even temporary joy is better than nothing at all.”

“Who are you? You’re a total criminal aren’t you?”
“Have I stolen your heart yet?”

After a run of heartbreaking and emotional reads we were so in the mood for a bit of slap and tickle – a bit of fun  – so we read the synopsis for Felony Ever After and checked out the list of talented authors who contributed to this story, we guessed this would be the one that just might deliver on that! And we’re pleased to say it really did!

We were keen to see how this story would actually play out. After all, with such an array of fabulous authors with such specific voices working on one story, how would it flow? Would each voice be so different that it would take us out of the story?

“Sometimes white knights have tattoos, princess.”

We’ll be honest and say we did worry a little that maybe this wouldn’t work for us for that reason, however we’re thrilled to say this book did flow beautifully, with there being only a couple of chapters where we felt the authors injected their own voice a little too vigorously, and in doing so, changed the voices of Verity and Hudson which we found a bit off-putting. Luckily it was all soon back on track and we were caught up in the story once more.

“So what is it that makes you tick, Hudson?”
“Right now?” he licked his lips. “You.”

There were some bizarre and giggle worthy moments in this story. It was a crazy read as each author was given the task to follow on from the next and when the author before them threw a curve ball or box in this case, it was so much fun to see how the next author would pick it up and run with it.

‘Michaels@VirityPic03 The box is back. What’s in the damn boxes?’

Now, whoever created Hudson Fenn…THANK YOU because we bloody LOVED this tattooed hot boy who possessed a cheeky sweetness, an air of mystery and was as hot as all hell out of and between the sheets. Yup….he was something else!  And ummm who wouldn’t want to be hashtag pounded by Hudson?

‘He’s all mysterious and shit. He’s like Batman.’

Verity Michaels was a fab heroine who more than held her own and her workplace felt like a crazier day at The Office than a day at The Office! We loved her character. We also had this strange fascination too with her Boss, Mr Lay. What a character! Bizarre yet we couldn’t help but actually like him. He was a hot weirdo!

We have to give a shout out to Katherine Stevens, an author we haven’t heard of before but whose chapter in particular had us in fits of giggles. You can bet we’ll be 1clicking her upcoming book, Going Down, when it releases this Spring!

Felony Ever After was a hell on wheels taxi ride with lots of hot sex, some crazy funny tweets, a hero to swoon over, some mystery and a bit of ridiculousness. There was a bit of everything in this light-hearted, steamy funny romp that took us in some very whacky directions! We really enjoyed this crazy-arsed ride!

“If you tell me that room I can’t go into at your place is a Red Room of Pain, we’re going to need to stop to buy lube and some Fifty Shades wine.”

“What’s it going to take to get you underneath me, Delilah?”

Oh gosh! You know when you start a book and it’s exactly what you need at that time? Well, The Baller was that book for us and there were so many reasons we loved The Baller. For starters there was the sports romance them. When it’s done well, it’s one of our favourite romances and with The Baller, Vi Keeland hit it right between the posts! Then there was Brody Easton….sigh….hold that thought for minute….Brody Easton! Wow! This charming, sexy, cocky, confident, dirty talking quarterback with that hint of vulnerability and alpha possessiveness we adore had us falling over ourselves and falling in love! We also had a plucky, sweet heroine in Delilah Maddox and a host of supporting characters who either provided us with loads of laughs and a lot of emotion. What wasn’t to love about Baller?

Brody and Delilah are both relationship wary after having painful experiences with love in the past. Delilah is on a six month ‘cleanse’ swearing off men for the foreseeable future, throwing herself into her career as a sports reporter which is where she comes errrrmmm ‘face to face’ which Brody….or a special part of Brody, when she interviews him. Brody is best known for his playing on and off the field, and he too isn’t interested in relationships after being devastated by love years before, but there’s no denying he wants Delilah and he wants her bad and he certainly let’s her know it. Have mercy….the things that man whispered in her ear made us blush! Is it hot in here?

“There are so many things I want to do to you”
“Like what?”
“I want to suck on your tits. Hard. Nibble on your nipples until you can’t take it anymore.”
“What else?”
“Then I think I’ll eat you out. I want you to sit on my face while I do that. So you can control where you want me to suck, how hard you want to ride my tongue.”
“Oh god.”
“Then when you’re good and wet…when you’re soaked for me and I can smell that you want me, I’m going to hold your hands over your head and fuck you.”

Gulp!!!  There is an immediate sexual chemistry between Brody and Delilah and a lot of fun. We hoped and prayed they would give into their feeling and take that leap of faith and trust their hearts.

‘We might have had different methods, but we were doing the same thing – protecting our hearts from loss again. You couldn’t get hurt if you didn’t let anyone in.’

Brody Easton, our hero may not think he does romance, he may think he’s best at bedding and moving on but we have to disagree….this guy put the ‘man’ in romance and wasn’t he such a funny bugger.

The relationship between Brody and Delilah was allowed to develop at a steady pace, with a friendship that provided quite a few giggles, some witty banter and some searing sexual tension! Oh boy! You can feel their desire on every page!

“You’re pretty fucking incredible you know that?”
“Is that the liquor talking or you.”
“You said liquor and all I heard was ‘lick her.’ I have a flight back to New York tonight. But now I have a hard-on and need a taste before I go.”
“You realise you just went from brooding to perverted in under five minutes.”
“Told ya. I’m moving on.”

Baller is told in varying pov’s which enabled us to dig deeper into the depth of the characters. Brody for instance, came across as a jack the lad who didn’t take life seriously, however his pov showed a very different side to Brody. A sensitive man with loyalty running deep in his veins with a heart of gold. We defy you not to fall in love with this quick witted, sexy man!

“Brody?”
“Hmmmm?”
“You’re spooning me? Brody Easton spoons?”
“Only you, baby. But don’t be surprised if you get woken up by  my fork later.”

Vi Keeland delivered a fabulously written heartfelt, funny, steamy sports romance that had us swooooning, practically combusting, holding onto our hearts and through some very clever writing, this author managed throw us a curveball a time or two which kept us on our toes! We did have a little issue with something we felt was beautifully resolved yet reappeared later and didn’t feel necessary and we would have loved a few more t ‘afters’ before the epilogue but maybe we’re just greedy. And that epi! Sheer perfection!

‘Sometimes we believe things not because we know they are true, but because the lies are easier to accept.’

Be sure to grab this one. Talk about a touchdown!

‘They say if you let something go and it doesn’t come back to you, it was never really yours to begin with. But considering I was the one who initially left in this situation, all bets were off.’

With a title like this you never know what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised that- sure Chance was definitely cocky but a bastard? No; we have to disagree with the title. Chance is what kept us reading this story, he was gorgeous and funny – sweet and understanding. He went through so much, be it from his past or his present. Sure he should have tried honesty, but after eight days?! We fell in complete love with him and like we said he’s the reason we stuck with it. Well him and a lovable fainting goat.

“You want to sin with me, Princess?”

The writing was engaging and we were definitely enjoying the story of how Chance met Ahhbree. We had a few laughs and it felt quite seductive to begin with so we were eager to find out how their story was to pan out. Kudos to the Authors for throwing in a spanner that completely came as a surprise. We loved this part of the story and once again it showed Chance as a man with a big heart who protects those he loves. And when he woo’s bloody hell does he WOO!!!!!!

“I’m here. You have me. The question is, do you want to keep me, or will you throw me away?”

So, where we struggled was with the amount spent together versus the time spent apart. As in they spent more time apart than together. Eight days from meeting to parting being the only time spent together over more than two years. Is it possible to have a love so cemented and final? We just didn’t connect with this part of the story it just didn’t feel convincing at all.

“Without you, I see nothing. Nothing.”

Our other issue was Aubrey; whilst we really liked her for the first part of the story she began to annoy us and get on our reading nerves. Yes she’d been treated in an emotionally appalling way, however – carry a grudge much – after receiving a life changing and emotionally driven explanation she proceeded to drag it out leaving two men hanging on tenterhooks and giving their all for her existence? Granted, she was partially aware and we do understand her reluctance to an extent but it went on for the better part of the story and began to drag. We couldn’t believe how hard Chance had to work, he literally put the Rrrrrrr in romance! So sadly no, this part of the story just didn’t work for us which is why we only liked it and didn’t love it. Chance and the goat stole the show! We want to be on the back of that bike!

‘Sometimes, those who put up the biggest shields are those who are protecting the biggest heart.’
