::REVIEW::

“So Bluebell what do you think love is?”
“To me, love is a verb. It’s horribly cliché, but actions scream louder than words.”

5 fabulous stars because we loved the sh-poo out of this book! It really was a fabulous read, and one that left us with such a warm and happy feeling in our hearts! We laughed out loud, we smiled throughout and our romantic hearts squealed with glee! Nicole Archer delivered a story full of warmth, emotion, a dash of angst, humour and lots and lots of heart, with enough steamy deliciousness to satisfy those who like heat in their reads. Nothing slowed the flow of the story and the emotion made our hearts ache but was so cleverly cloaked in wonderful sarky humour that ensured we always had a glow in our hearts and an abundance of giggles at the ready. What a terrific introduction to this author!

‘What if I fall? Oh but, darling, what if you fly?’

Road Tripped has to up there as one of the best enemies to lovers romances we’ve read. The humour was so on point. The sarcastic banter between Callie and Walker tickled us no end. Walkers puns had us in fits of laughter, and the journey around the US was visually captivating thanks to the talent of Nicole Archer who painted the perfect picture with her natural flowing storytelling. We felt as though we’d travelled the country in that campervan with Callie and Walker. We took in every sight, sound and smell – music blaring in our heads thanks to the fabulous soundtrack– this was a fictional setting brought to life courtesy of this authors brilliant and fabulously entertaining writing.

‘Her teeth were clenched tight, probably hiding the fangs that had just popped out.’

Twenty eight year old Callie Murphy is at a crossroads. Her life is in tatters. Her fiancée cheated on her, her sister cleaned out her savings. Her lifeline come by way of her friend Skip Shemura who flies her to New York to work in his ad agency. But, the job is sucking the creative life out of Callie.

Walker Rhodes is a talented photographer but at thirty, life is passing him by and his creativity is stilted at the ad agency. Walker rubs Callie up the wrong way. She has pre conceived opinion of who Walker Rhodes is…he’s the office man tart…isn’t he? Or did she judge him unfairly?

Walker Rhodes has a presence – as Callie put it…’Once he stepped inside the room, dumbassapohoria took hold, and every female brain within a six-foot radius shrunk to the size of a Tic-Tac.’ Well…who could blame them because Walker Rhodes made us positively dumassaphoric too! He was utter deliciousness. A masculine Southern gentleman with a dirty mouth whose self-censorship was hilarious. As he would say…. “I keep my dirty words in the sheets, not on the streets.” Electric blue eyes framed by glasses….a powerful, imposing man who wasn’t afraid to share his vulnerable side or scream like a girl when Callie drove The Silver Dildo (the campervan guys) like a demon! Oh boy did we do some serious swooning over his devilishly sweet southern charm.

“Something tells me you’ve got a good reason to feel that way or you wouldn’t be trying to hide it.” He kept quiet for a minute. “Be sad if you need to be sad. There’s nothing wrong with feeling blue. There’s a lot of beauty borne from sorrow – music, art..poetry. “

As Callie and Walker embark on their road trip around the US courtesy of an ad campaign for one of their clients, they strive to discover their lost creativity, drawing inspiration from their surroundings and each other. They deal with their pasts, their present and their future all within the confines of an RV…will they survive without killing each other or will the prospect of leaving their RV bubble fill them with dread? All will be revealed, so go on, 1Click this fabulousness now!

And….just when we thought we couldn’t ask for more, Nicole Archer went and delivered a kick arse, melt our hearts epilogue! Oh sigh…it was perfection. Turn us over, we’re done! Well, we’re not done really, because we’re off to devour more Nicole Archer goodness in Head Tripped! Yoohoo!

‘With them, words were just unnecessary noise.’

BEARD IN MIND (The Winston Brothers #4) by PENNY REID :: REVIEW

5 STARS!! For this emotional, funny, sensitive and beautiful love story.
Standalone in a series (though we recommend the whole series)

SYNOPSIS

All’s fair in love and auto maintenance.

Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.
Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone’s favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston’s charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever.
She mumbles to herself, but won’t respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won’t shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words.

Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life.

The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora’s box of complexity—exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity—and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean missing out on what matters most.

 5 beautiful Stars!

Penny Reid -for us- is always like a breath of fresh air when we pick up one of her books. She doesn’t excessively flower her words nor does she soften them. She brings an air of real life –undiluted- into her fiction which will touch many readers’ hearts for their honesty and singularity. Characters who swim against the current, a storyline that mirrors only itself. This is why we love Penny Reid. The beauty is always there and her characters have their own unique mould.

“Unless they’re polished, their colors will fade.”

“Like a person.”

“Pardon?” I returned my gaze to her profile.’

“People need to be polished to be stroked, touched,” her tone was abstract, “and when they’re not polished, their colors fade. They fade, they change, warp become something different.”

We have read every single Winston Brothers book in this series and whilst they’re as different as night and day in many respects, they’re really quite similar in their message. Every character has a specific burden or personal disposition to work through yet whilst a beautiful romance runs through them, the underlying theme always has such depth and realism.

“All people are broken, Shelly. No one is perfect. Some seek help. Some don’t. But no one is ever fixed by another person. We can only work on ourselves.”

We were excited for Beau’s story, who is so much more than just a wonderful and handsome, family loving man. We loved Beau’s character for how he was written and how he always stayed true to himself and his principles. A man whose heart is pure and loving despite the aches and breaks thrown at it. This man is a sunset and a sunrise; constant with such beauty.

‘But Beau is amazing. Being with him is so…effortless. Nothing has ever felt effortless before. And he wants to be with me.’

Without question this was Shelly’s story to tell and it was told in such a vivid yet clinical way that the effect of her words felt like razors in their intensity and honesty. It was a window into a tormented soul who struggles with control and their place in life; adopting coping mechanisms which may confound others yet makes life somewhat liveable for her. These coping mechanisms are stressful and controlling in their own right and makes for devastating reading. However, that is Penny Reid, and for those who stand in judgement of romance readers clearly haven’t picked up a book by this Author.

‘But I have always known –always felt- how embarrassing it is, to be this way. To admit that I can’t touch people without wanting to cut myself, to keep them safe from me, just in case. Because though you say I am not crazy, I know how I sound.’

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and cannot be measured nor compared. We all see beauty differently despite the yardstick so often planted in front of us. For us, real beauty is found through emotions, healing, bravery in suffering and without question can be found where you least expect it or look for it. The beauty of words can never be underestimated, especially when those words are found by that one person whose heart feels their true value.

“You are absolutely vital to me. I want to be just as vital to you. I want to take care of you, let me take care of you. You are my first thought in the morning, and my last thought before I go to sleep.”

TRUTH OR BEARD – BOOK ONE

SYNOPSIS

Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!

Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level headed good girl, has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life. His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she’s never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…

But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica’s muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order.

Certainly, Beau’s magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-headed heart is she willing to risk?

Much to her consternation, Sienna’s most frequent savior is a ridiculously handsome, charming, and cheeky Park Ranger by the name of Jethro Winston.

WRECKED by JEANNINE COLETTE :: REVIEW

Standalone – Enemies to lovers

SYNOPSIS

Take one sexy bartender. Add a badass cop. A splash of sweet, that’s me. One sour, that’s him… and serve over ice.

That’s how you’ll get to my current situation.

You know the girl – the one who commands the scene, bottle of liquor in hand, pouring liquid fire into the willing throats of patrons as they let loose at the local bar?

That’s me. Leah Marie Paige.

I may be known as the town party girl, but in reality I’m this close to my dream of opening my own bar – McConaugheys. Yes, it will be named after the acclaimed actor. What can I say? I’m a sucker for that sexy Texan.

Everything was going as planned until the night I had a few drinks and accepted a ride home from a friend. A misunderstanding leads to an arrest, and now I’m at the mercy of the one man I can’t stand, and trust me, the feeling is definitely mutual.

Adam Reingold is six-feet-tall and built like a stallion — the man is the epitome of male. He also happens to be the town narc and hates my guts. There’s a story to our past and it’s not a pretty one.

So, now, here I am, chained to him for the summer like a hardened criminal, doing whatever he tells me to do. Problem is, I can’t help but look at him when he’s not watching and wonder what our future could be like if things were different.

There are so many reasons why he’s all wrong for me. Even more reasons why I need to stay away from him.

It’s a cocktail of trouble. Best served shaken, not stirred.

‘I was so lost in the boy he once was when in front of me is a spectacular man who is so angry at the world for all the right reasons.’

Jeannine Colette is an author we’ve wanted to experiences for some time now, her book synopsis’ continually call to us, and in Wrecked, a small town, enemies to lovers romance telling a story of loss, love and second chances, we finally got our wish and dove straight in once it hit our Kindles.

Wrecked is set in the small town of Cedar Ridge in present time with intermittent flashbacks to events seven years previous which changed the lives, and friendship of Adam Reingold and Leah Paige. Just what caused the deep rift, loathing, and antagonistic behaviour between the pair is slowly and beautifully brought to light as the story progresses.

‘If he’s been wrecked by me, then I’ve been shattered, damaged, destroyed by him.’

In this hate/love story, the author ensured we read her story with a desperate need to uncover the tragedy and eventuating fallout that transpired between 25 year old bad arse, sexy, local Police Officer, Adam Reingold, and his then 17 year old best friend, Bar Manager, Leah Paige, now 23.  What caused their feelings to change, why did they ignore one another for seven years, and more importantly, can their friendship ever be repaired?

Adam and Leah were wonderful characters. Leah with her self-assuredness and carefree, fun loving attitude, her drive, penchant for bargain fashion, her loathing of Police Officer Reingold, and her out and out love for the man of her dreams, Matthew “all right, all right, all right“, McConaughey, was a breath of fresh air.  Whilst the grouchy, troubled, pragmatic Adam may have been the seriousness to Leah’s flippant, we loved him for his kind heart and his dedication upholding the law and protecting his town, especially the young and vulnerable. Adam and Leah really were opposites…but you know what they say about opposites, right?

“You have no idea what it is taking me not to touch you right now.”
“Why aren’t you?”
“Because you haven’t let me.”

Through a series of events, Adam and Leah are brought together, and as a result, are forced to slowly and painfully confront their pasts and their feelings for each other, reliving the moment that saw them drift apart.

“Adam.” His name comes out as a whisper my words catch in my throat. “I don’t want to hate each other anymore.”
“Then let’s not.”

We adored the quirkiness of some of the characters, especially Leah’s sweet family. From her Mum and Dad (Bob and Pam), to her sister Emma and her brother Luke, this family entertained us no end. And let’s not forget Leah’s flirty and very modern Grandmother and her lustful attraction to Adam. This lady had us in fits. Especially her advice to her Grand-daughter about the very sexy Adam…….“Chain him to the bed, Leah. Cuff him, and don’t let him out of your sight for the next fifty years.” Yep, she was one feisty, giggle inducing lady!

If you enjoy an enemies to lovers romance that deals with guilt, secrets and longing from the past, then Wrecked is for you. A story with drama and emotion sprinkled with sweet, tender and funny moments. Whilst we didn’t experience the emotional punch we would have loved, Wrecked was a fabulous introduction to Jeannine Colette’s work and you can bet it’s left us wanting to experience more from this author.

“Cricket is all I have. It’s all I’ve ever had.”

We love our sports romances and have read copious amounts, but we have to admit this was our first cricket romance. Having very limited knowledge of cricket as it’s just not a sport we follow, we were excited to see how we’d enjoy a romance set in the cricket world. We already knew we loved Anna Bloom’s writing as we’ve read her before and we were definitely in the mood for a bit of British. Did we enjoy it? We sure did, it’s a good slow burn romance with an epilogue that melted our hearts.

“Life.” And there it was, the one thing I never knew I wanted. A life of my own.

Once again we fell in love with the way Anna Bloom writes, it’s flawless, engaging, funny and has such realism. You feel like you get to know the characters and get completely immersed in the story of cricket. The Game had a real authenticity to it and it’s very clear that cricket is a sport Anna Bloom knows like the back of her hand. We do have to add though that for us we did struggle with the heavy focus on cricket in relation to the romance aspect. Whilst we love that the sport featured in great detail we would have liked the same for Alyssa and Jase in order to fully emotionally connect to this romance.

“This will be worth it?”
“It’s cricket. It’s always worth it.”

Alyssa is the queen of women’s cricket but is now the head fitness coach of a T20 cricket team after suffering an injury as well as the loss of her brother and his wife. Circumstances changed by tragedy means looking after her nephew whilst trying to stay in the sport she loves so dearly. Cricket to her is like breathing. Much to her annoyance the new Captain is England’s former test cricket captain, Jase Willis.  For both of them it’s a clear case of their hearts being owned by the sport and feeling lost without it. A brief meeting in the past has Alyssa dreading having to work so closely with him.

Alyssa is existing but not living life as such, her love for her nephew and her brother’s memory means she’s put parts of her own life on complete hold. Sometimes it takes love to show you the way and that’s exactly what happens to Alyssa, albeit reluctantly.

‘This was a game to him and the kiss had been a tactic of his offense. Well screw him; I wasn’t going to play the game.’

Jase Willis is known for his bad temper, his womanizing ways and his fortitude on the green. He’s a brooding enigmatic powerhouse and Alyssa has quite the battle on her hands; a battle that changes face after spending more time with Jase, the Lion. Frustrating doesn’t even cover it and a relationship which began on rocky grounds moves onto a more stable and even road of romance. If you love enemies to lovers and second chance love with a heavy element of sport then this is definitely a book for you.

“There are so many reasons why that shouldn’t have worked,” his voice was low.
“But my God, I’m glad it did.”

“Little Miss Unwilling to Let Go of the Past.”

We had originally planned to start this series at Book #3 as we were told each could be read as standalone. So, we started reading When I Fall, however, by 20% we had to put it down. Why? Well, we fell in complete book love with the other characters who’d each had a book already. Hence, a book binge began as we read Where I belong and All I Want in one sitting. J Daniels is a brilliant Author; she reeled us in hook line and sinker with characters that had us swooning, laughing and ultimately ending up with a lot of freezer time. Their stories were addictive and highly entertaining. One word – unputdownable!

“Sleep, Angel. You have me. I’m never letting you go.”

Where I Belong is the story of Ben and Mia. Ladies, Ben will literally ROCK YOUR WORLD! He’s without question one of our favourite heroes out there. Incredibly sexy, a cunning linguist …holy hell he knows what to do with that filthy mouth of his. But above all; he had a side to him that’ll make your ovaries melt while you swoon over his protective side. He was perfection!

“And say what, angel? That I could kiss you for hours. That I love the taste of you on my tongue.”

As for Mia; she’s so incredibly lovable, sweet, feisty and compassionate. Their story is romantic, funny and bloody hot. It’ll satisfy all your reading needs; no question!

Yes, it was a tad predictable and insta-love, but overall we just can’t recommend this Author and this series highly enough. What a fantastic weekend we had reading!

When she looked at me, she saw me. My hopes, my fears….She fucking owned me with that stare and I never wanted to look away.’

Where I belong is a story of childhood memories; forgiveness and second chances. It’s a story of family and friendships and a love so incredibly passionate and romantic.

Oh and on a last note; you will meet one of the cutest kids out there – Nolan will melt your heart – he’s a true scene stealer!

ALL I WANT – THE ALABAMA SUMMER BOOK TWO

All I want

SYNOPSIS

Luke Evans is a heartbreaker.

I didn’t want to give mine to him. Not when he kept me out.
He gave me enough, just enough to make me fall in love with him. I say this to convince myself. But I know the truth.
I would’ve fallen in love with him at a distance.
Handing my heart over to Luke was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I was naive when I wished for more, when I hoped he wanted the same things I did.
I try to hate him. I try to forget him.
But it’s not that easy.
Love is a ruthless bitch, and I’m her latest victim.

Tessa Kelly is a man-eater.

When she sets her sights on you, she doesn’t just consume your heart, she goes for your soul.
What we had was perfect, real, and all I would ever want.
But she destroyed it.
She destroyed us.
I try to hate her. I try to forget her.
But it’s not that easy.
Love is for people who have hope, and I have none.

Warning:
This book contains adult themes. 18+.
All I Want is a standalone novel, but to fully appreciate the f****ed-up mess that is Luke & Tessa, pick up Where I Belong first.

✯✯✯✯ Stars

“Do you love me today?”

We first met Tessa the sassy, plucky no nonsense, straight talking girl in Where I Belong. She gave us a good laugh and made no apologies for who she was and we loved her character.

“I hate that I can’t hate you enough to forget you.”

The relationship between Tessa and Luke (Ben’s best friend) was touched upon in book one and the miscommunication that had become synonymous with this pair in Where We Belong is carried forward into All I Want, only this time around we gained more of an insight into what lay beneath the animosity between Luke and Tessa, the deeply guarded secrets that plagued Luke, and the reasoning behind the turn their relationship took.

‘I let her in as much as I can, and it has to be enough because that’s all I can give her.’

There’s no doubting the deep attraction between Tessa and Luke, the chemistry between them crackled and we felt the affection between them, but boy did they love to provoke one another!  Sometimes their back and forth could be entertaining, other times it could be so bloody frustrating. There was a time or two we wanted to shout….TALK TO EACH OTHER!

“Let me go.”
“I can’t.” “I can’t let you go, Tessa. Please don’t ask me to do that.”

We could never have envisaged the depth of the man beneath the fun loving, self-assured, easy going Luke we were acquainted with in book one. Little did we realise the huge emotional barriers this man had constructed as a result of his painful past. Now, whilst we understood his reluctance to let Tessa in, there were times we could have throttled him with his own handcuffs! He acted in ways that would have sent a lesser woman running to the hills. Luckily Luke didn’t bank on the tenacity of this woman!

“I love you. Those words are yours. I’ll never say them to anyone else.”

We’re addicted to this series and it’s not just the romance factor, but also the friendship dynamics which are so important. The banter between the characters is both moving and fun, each bringing so much to the story. There are no secondary characters here, we’ve fallen in love with them all.

We really enjoyed this one, though not as much as Where I Belong. Whereas book one was sweet, sexy and romantic, All I Want was a much angstier read with two strong headed characters whose battle of wills could be as exhilarating as it could be exhausting. We’re absolutely LOVING THIS SERIES and enjoy catching up with all the characters as their stories weave throughout each book.

Once again, that little chap Nolan stole our hearts!  He never fails to put a huge smile on our faces.

If the push/pull, will they/won’t they angst gets your heart racing. If you enjoy a romance with plenty of love, wit, pure emotion and a huge (and we mean…huge) steam factor….then this book is for you!
