5 Stars!
Standalone in a series – Rock star theme – funny, sweet, emotional romance

SYNOPSIS

A rock star romance meets Alice in Wonderland.

Effie’s a gifted musician and a hot mess. Elias is the frontman in a popular band and hates fame. They both just want to be normal.
Except there’s nothing normal about the bizarre events that take place when they meet.
And there’s definitely nothing normal about the connection they share that weekend.
But he’s leaving for his European tour.
And she still has to dig herself out of the hole.
If only they could forget that weekend and go on with their lives.
Or…
He could break all the rules, invite her to play on tour with him, and travel across Europe in a Barbie camper/Disco Bus with a bunch of weirdoes.
Normal is boring.
Crazy is better.
Or is it?

Head-Tripped is the second book in the Ad Agency Series and can be read as a standalone, but many characters from the first book (Road-Tripped) appear in this book.

REVIEW

”If you love someone, you must love all of them. Even the dark parts – the craters of the moon.”

Well, she went and did it again! Nicole Archer swept us off our feet once more with another 5 star fantastic story and equally fantastic characters. Every…and we mean, every one of them had their own unique quirky personality, and we loved them all!  Honestly, this lady writes the most beautiful characters, Effie and Elias were superb. Relatable, troubled, funny, sweet, sexy, warm…..these two, and their madcap crew completely stole our hearts. We couldn’t get enough of either book!

Elias Lovaro (El Love) is a music god. And dear god, wasn’t this man just the cats whiskers! Talented, introverted, masculine, oozing sex appeal and yet such a sweetheart. He made us swoon! Suffering extreme stage fright, his band, Urban’s, impending European tour weighs heavily on his mind. In the music business, touring is a necessity, a way to ensure Urban remain relevant in a regularly changing business. Elias also battles demons from his past and his story was achingly tragic.

“What’s wrong, mi vida?”
“You make me feel….”
“Feel what?”
“That’s it. You make me feel. I was numb before I met you.”

Elias meets Effie Murphy, the twin sister of Callie Murphy who we were briefly introduced to in Road Tripped. We knew she was an incredibly talented child protégé musician who was also a recovering drug addict. In Head Tripped we delve into the events that drove Effie to nearly kill herself, get herself clean and take control of her life once more and her story is agonisingly heartbreaking.

Effie was robbed of her childhood, denied the chance to be young, enjoy life and have fun. Instead she was forced into gruelling long practice sessions by her overbearing stage mother. Because of this, Effie had such a beautifully innocent wild eyed childlike quality about her that drew us to her. Sweet, vulnerable – beautiful inside and out and fighting her addiction every day, her breezy attitude hid a multitude of pain with her past lurking like a murky shadow all around her.

‘She couldn’t even picture holding hands with someone, let alone falling in love with them. Men didn’t fall in love with damaged goods.”

Now, this all may sound quite heavy, but no, Nicole Archer tells Effie and Elias’s story through wicked humour, heart-warming interactions and a couple so imperfectly perfect fell instantly in love, wearing huge smiles plastered on our faces. Head Tripped delivered it all. Quirky, loveable characters, a rock star theme, heart stealing romance, and again a perfect balance of fun, deep emotion, angst and heat! Nothing was forced or overdone, everything fell so perfectly into place.

“God, you’re beautiful.” “Que linda,” he murmured. “Sos divina.”
“I love it when you talk dirty.”
“I didn’t say anything dirty.” He smirked. “Yet.”

Effie, and Urban take us on a whirlwind concert tour across Europe, where we FEEL every moment through the eyes of two people on a voyage of self-discovery, witnessing them fall apart and fall in love, whilst dealing with the heartbreaking and harrowing baggage that has plagued them.

“When you can’t look on the bright side. I will sit with you in the dark.”

Nicole Archer has stolen our hearts once again with her words, her characters, and her vividly creative and picturesque storytelling. We’ve greedily devoured every word we’ve read over the past couple of days, never wanting Road Tripped or Head Tripped to end. Our book hearts were overflowing with love for these story….and arggghh, the epilogue…again, stunning!  Te amamos F-Bomb and Elvis, te amamos.  Nicole Archer just shot to the top of our TBB fave authors list!

DRIVE by KATE STEWART : 5 STAR REVIEW

Now Live – TBB 5 Star Read!
Standalone emotional and angsty story of self discovery with a music theme.

SYNOPSIS

Music . . . the heart’s greatest librarian.

The average song is three and a half minutes long; those three and a half minutes could lead to a slow blink, a glimpse of the past, or catapult the soul into heart-shattering nostalgia.

At the height of my career, I had the life I wanted, the life I’d always envisioned. I’d found my tempo, my rhythm. Then I received a phone call that left me off key.

You see, my favorite songs had a way of playing simultaneously. I was in love with one man’s beats and another’s lyrics. But when it came to the soundtrack of a life, how could anyone choose a favorite song? So, to erase any doubt, I ditched my first-class ticket and decided to take a drive, fixed on the rearview.

Two days.

One playlist.

And the long road home to the man who was waiting for me.

‘Love doesn’t die, even when you stop feeding it. There is no expiration date on the ache of missing someone you shared your heart, life and body with.’

We didn’t come up for air, not even once, whilst we read Drive, it was absolutely everything we love in a rock star romance. The music element was superb and so passionately written with the chapter songs being spot on for drawing out every heartfelt emotion from us. This book became the air we breathed for every second, minute and hour we spent with it. It left us with achy exhausted hearts upon finishing, as if we’d run a marathon of emotions with hurdles thrown in to test our strength and emotional stamina. An epic slow burn romance of grand proportion which highlighted the inner most rawness found in humanity suffused in music.  It was extraordinary, vividly astounding and so intensely passionate we feel as if our souls have been forever touched by Kate Stewart. There’s no doubt; this is our all-time favourite Kate Stewart book, her heart is unquestionably entwined in the pages; we felt its beat pounding as we read reaching an almighty crescendo.

‘I sometimes wished I had a foggy memory. That I couldn’t remember the details, the dates, the story. It was both my gift and my curse. And music was my navigation. I had followed the music my whole life. My guidance, my protection, my ammunition….music was loyal and stayed with me, my constant, my comfort and at times my enabler.’

Now, we have read copious rock star romances yet can only count on one hand those that stand out for nailing both the musical aspect as well as the romance, which is what we look for in this much loved genre. It’s usually one or the other that supersedes, rarely both. However, Drive managed to excel at both. The music and its poignancy, the struggling artist to stardom, the fragile romance in a fickle world of uncertainty and personal tragedies. It was all there. But not only was this aspect of Drive perfection, so were the all-encompassing characters.

‘I used to think I was cursed for having fallen in love with two men. But, in hindsight, I realized what a gift it was. They were my lovers, my teachers, my best friends, and I would love them both until I took my last breath.’

It is not often you find such depth and character growth in a standalone novel, however this Author had us believing in every single character, their back story, their hope, their dreams and the truth in their hearts. We felt and truly saw the turning of years in their actions, behaviours and emotions. The maturity and sustained love that grew in strength.

‘Heartache has the most annoying sound. It’s an echo. An echo of heartbeats stuck on a loop.’

Drive is a difficult read emotionally yet it’s also full of humour, heat and intense frustration. It’s a love story, a love story that had us agonising because such an all-encompassing love can come more than once but the truest soul mate kind of love is the most wondrous of them all. We fell in love with Stella, we watched her, followed her as she went through the years growing into a beautiful butterfly through soul searching self-discovery. She always had a joie de vivre with a dash of naivety, even under dire circumstances, yet she had an abundance of hope. She knew what she wanted, she knew the greatness in store for the people she loved. She lived life glass half full. Her passion being music, finding new talent and bringing that talent to the people through her writing.

“I never forgot you, Stella. Not you, not us, not any of it.”

Our hearts embraced Stella as we lived her journey alongside her whilst her heart fell in love with two very different but amazing self-sacrificing men in their own right, two men who stole our hearts too. Only one tortured and troubled man stole a piece of her soul as well as her heart, never to give it back. This is where we proclaim Drive to be an epic music love story; because it truly was. One where tears were shed for everyone involved, shivers were felt and hearts were broken and subsequently mended. It was a truly magnificent experience which pulls no punches and we loved every phenomenal moment of it.

‘Because music is the heart’s greatest librarian. A few notes had the ability to transport me back in time, and to the most painful places. Take any song from the Rolodex of your life and you can pin it to a memory. It translates, resonates, and there it will remain.’

We urge you to pick this book up and as you read, listen to the chapter songs. Your emotions will already be heightened from this Authors magnificent words alone –however- with the music they become overwhelmingly alive and take your heart and soul to a whole new unique and incredible place. Mind your hearts because you’re sure to lose them to Stella, Reid and Nate.

‘Look up, Stella.’

“Girls like me don’t get happily-ever-afters.” “I’m just gonna have to prove you wrong then.”

We’ve been itching to read something from Meghan March for a while now, so when asked if we wanted to read her latest Duet, we checked out the synopsis, loved the sound of it, and of course we jumped at the chance.

The Real Dirty Duet delivered exactly what it promised, and just what we were in the mood for. A steamy, entertaining and effortless story that provided a pleasing balance of heat, emotion, drama, fun and even a little suspense and whodunit to keep us guessing. Not to mention a swoony warm-hearted alpha hero and a sassy yet sweet heroine. What more could we ask for?

“I’m gonna spoil you, Ripley Fisher. It’s about time someone did, and I’m privileged to have the opportunity.” Boone takes advantage of my momentary speechlessness to wrap a hand around the back of my neck and slide his lips along mine. “Kiss me, sugar. I’ve missed the taste of you.”

After reading this Duet, we’re happy to declare ourselves Meghan March fans, wanting to devour more of her books especially after getting a little tease of the characters from those previous stories. Colour us intrigued about one character in particular…he sounds like a right bad arse hottie!

Now, back to the main characters. Let’s start with thirty two year old, Boone Thrasher, the sexy straight-shooting, dirty talking bad boy country crooner who could melt panties with a smirk and a glance! Oh swoony Booney! What a man! If you love your hero’s all hot alpha with a bit of softness, then Boone is it! On the one hand, a right Southern gentleman and Mama’s boy raised in a loving family, with a soft heart, and on the other side a sexy commanding man with a dirty mouth and an even dirtier tongue! And boy does he know how to use it! Whether it was being as sweet as sugar or tantalising teasing and durrrty, Superstar was deeeeeliciously and didn’t disappoint! A sinfully sexy talented man in more ways than one!

“I don’t want you on your knees. I want that pussy on my face.”

Twenty nine year old, Ripley Fisher was a fabulously strong heroine who wasn’t afraid to dish out as good as she got from Boone. She could go toe to toe with him and not back down from a fight which was just as well, because in the beginning Boone was a bit of a cock, tripping over his words and getting Ripley’s back up…..but this sassy sexy lady was only too happy to put ol’ Boone in his place

“You’re in my life, Ripley. It doesn’t’ matter how it happened, but it happened.”

We loved this Duet! Really, what’s not to love? It was fabulous in every way; from the characters, to the story, to the writing. We were invested in Boone and Ripley’s story from start to finish. We loved the family dynamics on both sides (though Ripley sure did get the short end of the stick with her horrid bunch), found the story flowed effortlessly, the Nashville setting drew us in, the banter was spot on and giggle worthy, the sex was off the charts hot and the writing was fabulous in every way!

“You don’t need me, Ripley. I now that for a fact. So I’m gonna make you want me instead.”

The first book built the story beautifully, the second book brought a few surprises making us glad we got to read this duet in one go as we feel the flow wouldn’t have worked so well if we’d had to wait between books, so we definitely recommend reading them both together. Boone, Ripley and the gang provided hours of fun and sexy entertainment as we lost ourselves in their story! And yay, we’ve found ourselves another author to fall in love with! Meghan March has won us over!

“Jesus, you’re built like a beast.”
“No more than you’re built like a bombshell.”

Stay Review (1)

***4.5 STAR REVIEW***

‘We bled with the stars. Where they streaked and wept across the endless sky. Infinite. Burning bright right before they quickly burned out. Ashes.’

So we have to admit this book is our first in this series, gasp! Something which is in dire need of rectifying. We were told Stay can be read as a standalone and yes we agree, however we did feel like we were missing out on Sunder’s backstory and the bond between the lads. That’s not saying we didn’t enjoy it, we did, in fact we loved this story, we just think we would have had a more complete connection and understanding of relationships. On the flipside, we’re now excited to go 1Click the entire series because we have a feeling we will fall in love. We need more reading hours!!!! Who do we need to see about that?  We loved how AL Jackson made us disappear into her love story. We were completely drawn in and swept away on a current of emotions and beauty.

“Sometimes our greatest gifts are found in our darkest hour.”

Stay had everything we love to see in this type romance, it literally ticked all the boxes. It was sweet, sexy, emotional, reflective, vulnerable, passionate and so very beautiful. A sweet heroine whose heart is so big it literally just embraces everyone and everything with heartfelt love whilst seeking that very thing out to fulfil her own dream and wishes. Willow was a beautiful character, she endeared herself to us as she was so genuine and caring whilst having a feisty streak when needed. Nothing seemed over the top nor false. She was just a wonderful heroine.

“Sometimes we get so comfortable behind the protection of our walls, we forget we need to step out from behind them to actually live.”

Willow meets the bad boy serial philanderer, Ash- from the high profile band Sunder, under distressing and violent circumstances. An immediate connection and intriguing recognition is formed, for both Willow and Ash. Why is this connection so strong?

“Just…let me feel something. Something different. Something better. Something good.”

Now, we’ve not been privy to Ash’s rock star lifestyle until now but we soon got the idea, this man is hiding a tragic secret which is the root cause as to why he acts the way he does. Despite his cad-ish ways, it was clear to us from the start that this man was about so much more. We could tell from his inner voice, his friendships and his extremely protective side. Not only is this man a sight to behold, he has the heart to match.

“Even if I wanted to hold you…keep you…it’s all wrong, baby. It’s all wrong because I’m wrong. I’m ugly in all those places people can’t see. That’s the place I can’t let you go. Won’t let you go. You deserve so much better than what’s waiting there.”

The journey of Ash and Willow is a twisted path of tragedy, loss, hope, despair, dreams and love. If you wish upon a dream you must act upon your heart. We loved it! And we’re not pretending…..

GRAVITY by LAUREN RUNOW :: REVIEW

Standalone : Childhood friends to lovers angsty romance spanning over twenty years.

Gravity Review

Reviewed by Jenny & Gitte

“You and me, we’re meant to be together.”

This was our first experience with Lauren Runow’s stories and we’re certainly keen to try out more. In Gravity we meet Lily Pace and Trevin Allen who become firm friends at eight years old and who live a life of ups and down, successes and failures, missed opportunities. And as the synopsis suggest, it’s certainly not a warm and gooey childhood to lover’s story, indeed it’s not. This is one angsty journey for Lily and Trevin that’s full of heartbreak, loss and bad decisions, and begs the question, can soulmate love fight, survive and conquer?

‘Without each other, we both will float away into darkness, because my life would be nothing without her.’

Trevin Allen lives in a troubled household with an alcoholic cruel father who really was one of the most revolting characters we’ve met. He made our stomach turn and his treatment of Trevin was hard reading, in fact his behaviour was downright bizarre at times.

A friendship with Lily develops when they are both eight, with Lily’s companionship being the reprieve Trevin craves. They share a reckless innocence which is so sweet and develops as the year’s progress into something more than friendship. At thirteen Trevin’s talent and passion for Baseball could be his passport out of his situation, but it is music that is his dream, and apart from Lily, his love.

‘I will try my hardest to be the best man anyone would want to love, especially the girl holding me right now.’

Trevin’s life begins to take a downward spiral thanks to his father in which Lily tries to pull him out and show him his potential, signing him up for an audition with Sony records. Trevin’s life changes, leaving Lily behind as he chases his music dream.

Trevin tries to include Lily into his life but it’s clear the prim and proper Lily is out of her depth with Trevin’s drug taking, rock star companions and cracks in their relationship and friendship develop.

Gravity follows Trevin and Lily from eight to thirty five and it’s quite the journey. We advise you to hang onto your Kindles because you’ll want to throw them a time or two! Both Lily and Trevin change in personality, behaviour throughout the story, fighting to find their identity whilst exploring the complexities of growth and eventual maturity. Life at times is erratic, separation unavoidable, and both have to learn to bend and make allowances for the other, which is easier said than done.

‘He’s been here, with me, every day since I was eight years old, and now he’s gone.’

Despite Lily’s belief and encouragement in Trevin, we did find Lily to be a little judgemental at times, and felt the time jumps didn’t allow for us to actually feel and live their story some of the time. We know Trevin had drug issues throughout his rock and roll lifestyle but we feel as though we didn’t really experience the gritty, raw aspects of this, and so the impact wasn’t as compelling as it would’ve been if we had lay witness to it.

“He’s my gravity I’m pulled toward him, and there’s nothing I can do about it.”

The path to true love isn’t always straight and narrow, it’s rocky and full of potholes, and no more so than in the case of Lily and Trevin. Their love tested us, their reasoning frustrated us, some of their decision making infuriated and confused us, but there’s no doubt Lauren Runow’s story held us captive as we hoped with our hearts in knots that love would eventually prevail for these two.
