This story is one very emotional ride. It took a piece of my heart and I felt every word written, as the intense and horrific effects of war literally jumped off the pages. So close to my heart, so very sad and frightening! It also showed the effects on the ones left behind who are having to fill two roles in their children’s lives.

There were two very serious and emotional story lines running through this book. It was heart breaking yet inspiring; about sacrifice and re-discovery of the self!

The hero Shane, and heroine Jen, are both damaged. Both bear emotional and physical scars, for different reasons, both in need of ‘fixing’ and love. Shane from the tragedy of war; Jen from a heart-breaking illness.

Shane is an extremely attractive hero, in more ways than one, because you know that despite being a powerful and strong man; a fighter, he has a vulnerable side and strives to make things right for all he holds dear and close.  He cares deeply and will do whatever it takes for justice.

Jen has been through so much due to illness. She bears the scars and the emotional damage as a result. However, despite this she is so strong and fierce. I admired her because despite her continual struggle, she outwardly carries on and reaches out to help those around her, one being Shane.

I loved the fact that Shane and Jen embark on a relationship whilst both are experiencing emotional issues as individually they falter yet together they manage to be for each other just what is needed to find themselves again.

I also loved the other characters, and the way this story ended with a few side story cliffhangers, I cannot wait for the next instalment!
