SYNOPSIS

17-year-old Kate has lived her whole life in abject poverty, with an alcoholic father and drug-addicted mother, who severely abuses Kate. At school, her second-hand clothing marks her as a target. Her refusal to stand up for herself makes her the recipient of her classmates taunts and bullying. That is, until Henry returns. 

Henry Jamison moved away six years earlier, just as he and Kate had begun to develop feelings for one another. He returns to find the bright, funny, outgoing girl he had known now timidly hiding in corners, barely speaking to anyone around her, suspicious of even him. 

Kate can’t figure out what game Henry is playing with her – for surely it is a game. What else would the gorgeous, popular boy from her past want with her? 

Kate finally decides to trust Henry’s intentions, opening her heart to him. Just when it seems he might be genuine in his friendship, tragedy strikes, threatening everything Kate has worked so hard to gain. Can Henry help her to overcome this new devastation, or will it tear them apart forever?

Yes I know I am a crier in books, I get told often enough lol…However, I defy anyone not to at least have blurry vision from tears reading this extremely emotionally gripping, heart breaking and poignant story!! It is an amazing journey of saving through love and at the same time it offers a great message, because this stuff is REAL!! It happens.

This story is about Kate. It is so beautiful and well written, I felt every emotion. Kate is a girl who is petrified of life and hasn’t felt safe since the age of 9. Her home life is awful and broke my heart, her school life; the same. This girl does not have a single person in her world who she can trust or shows her kindness and affection! Imagine that for just one minute..dreadful…!! Kate is a very shy girl with no self-esteem to speak of. She has nothing in her life and believes that she deserves nothing. At times she came across as a cowering animal in the corner hoping to be overlooked by the world.

Yet this story is about so much more. Yes it will make you want to cry (or if you’re like me go through a whole box of tissues!!), it will make you scream out in frustration, but it will also touch your heart and show you there are people with compassion, people who care. I fell in absolute love with Henry. He saw Kate when no one else did and worked his way in to pierce the armor she shields herself in. He gave her LIFE!!
