Our Review

I do love Elizabeth Reyes’ stories, I know what to expect and I haven’t been overly disappointed yet. Sure, some are better than others, but I am pretty much swept away in her world every time.

This story is about Hector and Charlee. We have met Hector in the previous 5th Street novels – Noah and Gio and I would really recommend reading this series in order. You will have the background on the rest of the 5th Street guys…oh h and you wouldn’t want to miss out on Noah and Gio….sigh! Pure sweet and sexy indulgence.

I’ve been looking forward to Hector’s story for a while and overall I was not disappointed. However, I do feel that this instalment was missing something; perhaps it was the fact that the rest of the gang wasn’t in it much, 5th Street didn’t really feature also Hector seemed slightly different not as cheeky and sarcastic and I felt at certain times in the story that events were mentioned we should have really known about or been told of as dedicated readers. I felt that part of Hector’s story focused too much on one element which I won’t spoil and this made the story drag at times.

Despite those issues I enjoyed it as the quality of the writing and the way in which this Author writes her heroes is just perfect and swoon worthy.

Right, so our heroine Charlee is a gorgeous freckled redhead, a sweet and innocent girl who is starting afresh at college with her friend Drew. Charlee is shy and timid with a humiliating secret she is running from.  She immerses herself in the words of chess and competitions.

Hector is running from guilt, trying to rectify past mistakes and trying to not let the guilt determine his future by making it up for it.

Hector and Charlee meet through a mutual friend and a poignant situation and instantly there is something there, well for Charlee anyway who immediately recognises her feelings. For Hector it takes a while longer as she is not like any of his many typical conquests.

I loved the relationship between Hector and Charlee and the whole message of how Love decides where to make a home.

Now bring on Abel’s book….I cannot wait!

Synopsis

Cocky—check.

Staying away from him was indisputably the sensible thing to do. The problem? She wasn’t just drawn to him; she was utterly mesmerized…

So when amazing and incredibly intense Hector Ayala, literally jumps into Charlee’s life, her walls are immediately up. Letting her guard down and sharing her past and deepest secret is not happening. Charlee is not looking to get her heart crushed once again. However, her willpower proves to be no match for Hector’s mesmerizing pull.

Guilt is a profound emotion to deal with and no one knows this better than Hector. So when he gets the chance to make up for a past indiscretion that’s been gnawing away at him for months, he takes it. Doing so means he’ll also have to pass up pursuing Charlee, the only girl he’s ever been so fascinated by. But his inability to explain why they could never be has him dealing with a new kind of
guilt—the guilt of knowing he is unwillingly breaking her heart
