BEING ME (Inside Out Trilogy #2) by LISA RENEE JONES – REVIEW Y
19 June, 2013
SYNOPSIS
The sexy second installment in the Inside Out erotic romance trilogy, following If I Were You—in the seductive tradition ofFifty Shades of Grey.
Fascinated by the dark fantasies in the journals she’s discovered, and the two men who have now found a place in her life, Sara McMillan finds herself torn between her new life and her past. Now, more than ever, Sara identifies with the lost journal writer, Rebecca, and is certain that something sinister has happened.
In the arms of the sexy, tormented artist Chris Merit, Sara seeks answers about Rebecca and ends up discovering things about herself she never knew existed. Chris forces Sara to reconsider who she is and what she truly wants from life, but not before his dark desires threaten to tear them apart. Her boss, Mark Compton, offers her the shelter to understand just what those needs mean to her, and what they might have meant to Rebecca, but can she trust him to lead her to a final conclusion to Rebecca’s story?
Review by Gitte
So, we re-join Sara in her journey to discover what actually happened to Rebecca. She’s still fascinated by the life of this woman, the mystery and the passionate fantasies. Journals, which we have now been privy to. Sara is of no doubt that something has happened to Rebecca. Something malevolent, and that thought frightens her as she finds her life running parallel; their lives being intertwined.
As far as twists, thrills, mystery and passion goes, this instalment had it in abundance. I can’t go into too many details as this journey should be uncovered by a new reader without spoilers, in order to be fully immersed in the mystery and suspense.
Book #1 ‘If I Were You’ had a nasty cliff-hanger, well I thought so. Then we had the four journals that shed some light on who Rebecca is/was and what happened leading up to her disappearance. So, upon starting ‘Being Me’ I was filled with trepidation and apprehension as this sinister journey continued for Sara.
And readers, yay, this instalment gave us the answers we were so desperate for; no more waiting, we actually find out! Though, new questions where thrown at us too, which we’ll have to wait for answers to….. and we need to know HOW!?!?
So, we start where we left off, with Sara immersed in her work at the Art Gallery, working for the handsome, enigmatic and domineering Mark who wants to show Rebecca his world. A world that scares Sara; and a world that could possibly be the reason for Rebecca’s disappearance.
Sara’s past is revealed to us; we get an insight into where she comes from, what influences her and her actions as well as her beliefs. Sara is still incredibly drawn to Chris.
Chris is a mystery still, yet what she does know compels her, makes her want him yet scares her, giving her chills as well. Chris is an integral part of Sara’s self-discovery and healing, she knows this and she realises that she can be his too…if he lets her.
“I’m going to fall.”
“I have you Sarah.”
Chris is tormented, secretive yet oh so giving and good. I’ve loved Christ from the beginning. He is so cocky and bad arse. So very sensual and passionate….and his heart….his mind. I LOVE this man!!!
“What did you say?”
“I said,” he murmurs softly, “that I want to make you melt like sugar on my tongue like you did earlier.”
The darkness he tries to hide from Sara; the outlet he uses to control his anger and curb his extreme emotions. Well, it could get in the way of any relationship they may eventually achieve.
“Do you know what happens when you push a dragon? They burn you alive, baby. You’re playing with fire.”
The connection and attraction between these too is so intense, passionate and overwhelming. And ooo’er Missus this one is saucy too!!
“Baby, the ways I’m going to fuck you are too many to count, but not tonight. Tonight, I’m going to make love to you.”
Now, Mark. So much I want to say, but I can’t find the words. He scares me yet I want him. His demeanour is so incredibly controlling and intense. Yet every so often he shows his sarcastic sense of humour and his ‘caring’ side. He shows his humanity during very sudden and brief small glimpses. Blink and you miss them. His actions hide any personable emotion. We unravel him towards the end but still so much of him is hidden.
Overall, I loved this continuation. My only issue is that I thought the middle of the book was quite drawn out. There was too much back and forth between Mark and Sara which in my opinion verged on the edge of becoming a tad tedious. However, once it picked up again…wow….the journey turned into one hell of a sinister and emotional ride with answers and questions thrown at us left right and centre.
My mood upon finishing ‘Being Me’…emotional, frustrated, bereft, satisfied and upset at an answer I did not want but was scared was going to be the case! Once again, I cannot wait for ‘Revealing Us’, however, don’t be worried…there’s no nasty cliff-hanger this time!
“How is it that you always do exactly what I don’t expect you to do?”
Gitte: 4.5 Stars
