LONG HARD RIDE (Rough Riders #1) by LORELEI JAMES

Gitte: You know what I love Jenny? When we’re finalising our monthly reading schedule and come across a book by accident which we just didn’t have on our radar! And to top it off, we get so caught up in this story ending up really enjoying it! Cowboys…..my first time and I bloody loved it! I honestly never expected to enjoy this one like I did and I can’t even put my finger on what it was despite the obvious that it had hot sexy alpha cowboys, emotion and scenes that kind of blew my mind, and yeah I’m talking the Edgard/Trevor one (I may have had to go sit in the freezer for this one) and the Colby/ Channing/Trevor one…..Bloody hell Jenny, I remember texting you saying pass me the ciggies I’m done! And dare I say it….Save a horse ride a cowboy….mind the cheese factor!!!

“Cause you got the sweet face of an innocent and the body of a high-priced whore.” – Colby

This is definitely a hot erotic romance done cowboy style with scenes of m/f/m and m/m. Will it change your life and make you all angsty and emotional? Nope, but it sure will make your pulse race and put a smile on your face and it’s definitely perfect for one of those easy quick sexy reads that we need every so often. Don’t you agree?

Jenny:  Giddy up! We did indeed have our cowboy cherries popped and what a book to have your first encounter with!  They say you always remember your first…ummmm don’t think I’ll forget this one in a hurry!  I’m so glad we slipped this one in while we were agonising over our August reads and it really did turn out to be a reading surprise. Love when that happens. I freaking loved it.  I couldn’t put the thing down.  It was very, very…very naughty and if you love your alpha men, then Colby will blow your alpha loving mind! Wowsers! I’m getting all hot and bothered just thinking about him.

“‘Cause, sweetheart, I’m dyin’ to show you what you’ve been missin'” – Colby

Yes it was cheesy at times but I loved that about it. It was fun, it didn’t take itself too seriously, but at the same time it had me swooning and sighing at those awww moments.  Can you see I really enjoyed this?    Ha! I do believe you actually texted me a pic of 10 ciggies lined up and it was just at the point when I thought this book couldn’t get any hotter -but it did! Oh my goodness…. It had it all going on and was definitely a 10 ciggie read alright.   

Gitte: I don’t know about you Jenny but I really liked all the characters in this story, none of them rubbed me up the wrong way (pun totally intended). It was a cast of complimentary characters set in the world of rodeo life, a first for me, so I really enjoyed this aspect.

The hotness factor flies through the roof, yet the story backs it up no question.

“Channing fought him. Kicking, biting, digging her nails into his shirt, trying to claw his heart so she could rip it into shreds like he’d done to hers.” – Channing

I loved the fact that there’s no drawn out misunderstandings and that the heroine is both funny and strong. As for the cowboys….boy do I need to pack my suitcase, don a Stetson and book a ticket to ride!

Jenny: Me too Gitte. Loved them all and loved the story.  Each character had their own tale, each was strong and entertaining and extremely hot!  I adored Channing, the heroine, I went completely gaga over Colby – wait a minute – I need a moment – pass those ciggies G – Trevor and Edgard…’nuff said….swoon…..and as you said, not one of the characters got on my tits (no pun intended).  As for taking off to the next rodeo…I’ve got the chaps packed girlfriend, so I’ll pick you up on the way..yee ha!

Gitte: So yeah, I thought this was a real fab love-story tied up in passionate sexy bows. The writing was great and in between all the hot nookie was some real honest emotional moments spoken in cowboy lingo.

“You’re mine. And the thing you need to learn about me is that I don’t share what’s mine…..Your little sexual adventure is done. You understand me? Anything you’ll need in bed you’ll get from me. I’ll give it to you any way you want it, but I’ll be the only one fucking you, is that clear?” – Colby

I enjoyed unwrapping this one and will definitely check out the rest of the series! What do you think Shug?

Jenny:  Why Miss Gitte you pretty little filly, we sure will be checking out more of these books…I want to find out about those men whose names all begin with a C.

“Well, I ain’t frantasizin’ ’bout holdin’ your hand and takin’ you to Sunday church ice-cream social.” – Colby

It may have been off the charts hot but at the crux of it were the love stories and the emotion between the characters really pulled me in.

“I’ve never had a man look at me the way you did tonight , Colby. Like I was…everything.” She whispered.  “I’ve never been utterly incapable of speech because I couldn’t think beyond how you felt on me, in me. My world has never distilled down to such an elemental need. It scares me to death.” – Channing

They melted me and I really did have that silly grin on my face – you know the one – when you’re reading something that, at times, melts your heart? Well, that was me.  So, pour a wine, grab a fan and saddle up for an entertaining, extremely naughty and swoony read!
