shock and awe

SYNOSPIS

After barely surviving a shootout in New Orleans, Sidewinder medic Kelly Abbott has to suffer through a month of recovery before he can return home to Colorado. He’s not surprised when fellow Sidewinder Nick O’Flaherty stays with him in New Orleans. Nor is he surprised when Nick travels home with him to help him get back on his feet—after all, years on the same Marine Force Recon team bonded the men in ways that only bleeding for a brother can. He’s very surprised, though, when Nick humors his moment of curiosity and kisses him.

Nick knows all of Kelly’s quirks and caprices, so the kiss was a low-risk move on his part . . . or so he thought. But what should’ve been a simple moment unleashes a flood of confusing emotions and urges that neither man is prepared to address.

Now, Kelly and Nick must figure out what they mean to each other—friends and brothers in arms, or something even deeper?—before the past can come back to ruin their tenuous future.

Gitte:  5 Sexy and Emotional Stars

So, my favourite m/m series EVER is ‘Cut & Run’ by Abigail Roux, now, if you’ve read that series you’ll have met Nick and Kelly already and in my opinion all m/m readers should go buy the Cut & Run series NOW along with Shock & Awe, if you haven’t. You will NOT regret it.

So, these guys are part of the same Marine Force Recon team along with Ty…sigh!!!! We find ourselves in the aftermath of what went down in New Orleans from ‘Touch & Geaux (Cut & Run #7)’.

Kelly got badly injured when we were last with them, so Nick helps him home and decides to stay and help his friend. They both get caught up in the additional aftermath of the possibility that there’s more to their friendship. So Kelly gets real, he gets brave and he wants to know what it feels like to kiss Nick.

“I want to know what it feels like to kiss a guy. And you’ve had a lot of practice, I so I know you’re a good kisser.” ~ Kelly

“Are you simultaneously complimenting me and calling me a whore?” ~ Nick

Actually before I continue let me confess my love for Abigail Roux. She is nothing short of brilliant. Her writing is always beautiful, yet also sarcastic, funny, so bloody hot and steamy and she makes me feel every damn time as the depth of the emotion literally leaps from the pages into my heart. I have a huge girl crush on her and the men in her books. Well as for them, I just want to be part of their lives in any way I can. I know them, I understand them and I feel them. The way Abi writes is so flawless, she makes me not only care deeply for her characters and fall in love, she also makes me:

Laugh….

“I’m not asking you to buy the milk, O’Flaherty, I just want you to grope the cow.”

Cry…..

This could work out pretty nice for both of us, Nicko. I’ve never been with anyone where it was so easy so fast. Where it felt like home. But you’ve always been home to me.” ~ Kelly

And Clench….

“Now you should be thinking of me fucking you,” he hissed. “Because I sure as hell am.”~ Nick

“Oh God,” Kelly breathed.

“No, you don’t say his name when I fuck you. You say mine.” ~ Nick

“You don’t say his name, you say mine?” Kelly repeated incredulously. “I almost came right then, where the fuck have you been hiding that?”

Kelly and Nick are mates, they feel an almost unrivaled sense of friendship and serve as a natural protector of the other. They are brothers in arms. So this change to their relationship is almost frightening. They already love each other, deeply. They know everything there is to know about each other, and then some.  Adding romance, feelings and emotional sex to the equation scares the shit out of Nick and Kelly to a degree.

Nick is so scared of taking that leap, scared of the timing of it considering Kelly is not only possibly high as a kite from his medication, but is also confusing his feelings for something else. However, the attraction is undeniable and all attempts of denying it are futile.

“I’m not going inside you,” he hissed in Kelly’s ear”…”But I do plan on coming all over your ass, so buckle the fuck up.” ~ Nick

Gah………..enough said!!!!

There’s so many beautiful, sexy and funny moments, well I knew there would be. This is Abi after all. Yet there’s also a scene that had me bawling like a baby and then….then came Ty and Zane and I was a goner…I was beside myself and I’ll admit to something I never usually do. I re-read it again straight after I’d finished. This isn’t a long story nor is it of Cut & Run plot-line depth. But that didn’t affect me, this was an emotional romance and we know these characters already. We know the cloth they’re made off and we know their capabilities. END OF!

“You’re dirty, Kels.”

“That’s like Satan calling me a bad boy.”
