FERAL SINS (The Phoenix Pack Book One) by Suzanne Wright
4 December, 2013
SYNOPSIS
If your inner wolf and your body react rather enthusiastically to a psychotic Alpha male who’s own wolf has a tendency to turn feral, it can’t be a good thing, can it? Entering into a bargain with him wouldn’t be good either. Unfortunately, Taryn Warner, a latent wolf shifter, doesn’t have many options open to her right now. Okay, she has no options. Basically it comes down to whether she’ll do what it takes to escape the arranged mating with the sick SOB that her father set up. As the answer in this case is yes, it looks as though she’ll have to agree to Trey Coleman’s deal…she’ll have to mate with him instead.
Having always disliked shifter politics, Trey Coleman hadn’t bothered trying to form alliances with other packs. Now that his uncle – a wolf with many alliances – means to take Trey’s territory and his pack, he has no option but to form some alliances of his own very quickly or he’ll be easily outnumbered in the upcoming battle. He figures that the easiest way to do that would be to mate with a female who’s Alpha is powerful and influential. There’s only one problem with that – he would then be stuck with her, and the last thing Trey wants is a mate. When he hears of Taryn’s situation, he offers her a deal – if she falsely claims he’s her true mate and allows him to claim her, he’ll save her from her arranged mating and then let her leave after the battle with his uncle is over.
Sounds like a pretty straightforward deal…but soon Taryn and Trey realize they got more than they bargained for. Their mating instincts to protect and possess are weighing on them, they crave each other’s touch and company, and their inner wolves don’t like it whenever they’re apart. Add in that they’ll have to deal with this for an entire three months until the day of the battle finally arrives, and they’ve got themselves a recipe for disaster – or maybe for something quite the opposite.
Warning: This novel contains an extremely sarcastic Alpha female, a broody possessive Alpha male, bitter in-laws, voyeuristic enforcers, a whole lot of dirty talk, and steamy bedroom battles for dominance. Reader Advisory: This book also contains a graphic ménage scene – not for the faint-hearted.

G&J: 5 bloody brilliant wolf-howling Stars
Gitte: First of all I have to say, how annoyed with ourselves are we Jenny for having this story sat on our kindles ready to be read for over a year and only getting to it now??!! Because wow, this was brilliant. It was a fantastic orgasmically passionate, funny, exciting and action packed paranormal about finding your meant to be; your soul mate.
“Love is giving someone the power to completely destroy you, and hoping that they won’t”
The characters were just brilliant! They were well written and had such strength, emotion, intensity and humour. The writing was evocative, detailed and so visually artistic. ‘Feral Sins’ had that perfect balance of paranormal, including a must have epic thrilling battle scene.
Oh and the animalistic nookie was HAWT!!!!! Taryn and Trey were one of the most perfectly suited couples I’ve read about in a while. The intensity of their relationship and the emotional and sexual connection was intense. We loved it didn’t we Jenny?
Jenny: Loved it? We were bloody obsessed with it haha and yes!!! I want to slap us both on the forehead for having this bad boy on our Kindles for all this time. What the hell were we thinking overlooking this one! But Gitte, to say it was worth the wait is an understatement. What a bloody fantastic steamy, giggle inducing and addictive read this was.
We were bemoaning that we needed something different to read, a change of pace and something to sink our teeth into (no pun intended) and felt maybe a paranormal read would give us that kick and well, Feral Sins certainly delivered on all counts. Orgasmitastic I say! The primal and raw couplings, the intensity of the possession and passion of these characters had me gripped from start to finish. You know you’re on a winner when you’re consumed enough in a book to hide and sneak little reads whenever you can. I swear I couldn’t leave this book unattended for a second.
“You just don’t get it, do you? You have no idea how important you are to me.” Trey
The wit, the snarky banter, the sarcasm, the kick arseness, the off the charts heat factor and the constant struggle between alpha male Trey and an alpha female Taryn really made this a fun, piping hot and riveting read. Bloody LOVED it!!!!
Gitte: I absolutely LOVED Taryn our alpha female. She is without doubt one of my favourite heroines; she was so bad-arse and funny I revelled in her character. I wanted to be her….for MANY reasons Trey being THE MOST obvious one *wink wink* but more on him in a second. Taryn’s sense of sarcastic humour was spot on and her banter with Trey’s grannie had me in hysterics.
“I. Want. You. Out.” – Greta
“Just give me a second. Attempting to give a fuck…Attempting harder to give a fuck…Sorry, there was an error. Fuck not given.” – Taryn
The dialogue with the other pack members were crack-up-tastic too. I think I highlighted half the book! Especially scenes with Greta the grannie and Taryn! This girl has the mouth of a sailor and I loved her for it.
“You cock-smoking shitfaced motherfucking piece of monkey shit,” – Taryn
She is incredibly strong, loyal and fierce. Taryn’s really not had it easy with a traumatic childhood, a father who despises her for her inability to shift and her being in general. Unless it’s to suit him of course. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger right?!
“Isn’t it great when your very existence infuriates someone? You’ve got to love that kind of power.” – Taryn
The way she doesn’t take any nonsense whilst being in the midst of danger and a pack of wolves was a joy to read. When she has those intense sparring sessions with Trey you can literally feel the electric connection between the two and I think that’s one of the reasons why Trey fell so hard and why these two are soul-mates and perfect for each other. You loved Taryn too didn’t you Jenny?
Jenny: Taryn was such an all round wonderful character and I absolutely adored her Gitte. Everything about her. She was kick arse, strong willed, defiant, stubborn, sensual with a loyal and loving heart. The fact she could stand up to the extremely alpha Trey made me love her even more and the sarcastic banter between her and Trey’s Grandmother Greta….well, I nearly collapsed laughing quite a few times with these two. Both stubborn, both with acid tongues and both as funny as all hell.
‘Wouldn’t you like to slip into something more comfortable, though? Perhaps a coma?’ – Taryn to Greta
I seriously could have highlighted every single moment with these two and they provided such light-hearted moments. Trey and Taryn were one of the hottest book couples I’ve encountered. The intensity of the heat and passion between Taryn and Trey were definitely ice cube worthy moments and these two burned up the pages. Wow! These two really sizzled between the sheets and everywhere in between!!
“Louder, Taryn. I want every person in these caves to that that I’m fucking you right now. I want them to know that I own you.” – Trey
But I also relished the growth of Trey and Taryn as their bonding starting to develop and the intensity of their feelings realised.
“You’re all there is for me, Taryn. I’m broken baby. You know that.” – Trey
Gitte: Now as for Trey, what can I say other than he is without doubt one of the better written paranormal characters out there. He’s had a shitty life so far and is so messed up emotionally he hasn’t got a clue what hits him the minute he meets Taryn under a bullish crazy circumstance. It all starts with an offer Taryn can’t refuse, a deal which turns into so much more. A life changing decision.
‘There had to be something wrong with her if she was attracted to a psycho. But strangely. She didn’t feel in danger with him.’ – Taryn
Trey’s so bloody alpha, he’s a wolfish animal who pounces on you in any which way when he desires and wants to. Would I say no? Hell NO, he’s a sexy dominant with a filthy mouth who’s sulking and craziness is actually a turn on!
“When I fuck you Taryn – and make no mistake about it, baby, I will fuck you – the only talking you’ll be doing is begging me to let you come. Not just the once. You’ll come over and over again, until I decide you’ve had enough. Until I decide that I’ve had enough.” – Trey
Trey re-defines rough and ready for sure! Gah…..we fell in love didn’t we Jenny?!
Jenny: We fell in love, lust and everything in between with this man who just exudes masculinity Gitte. We loved his dirty mouth, his raw sexuality, his primal needs and his possessive alpha-ness and yes….his little bouts of sulking and temper tantrum just made me love and lust after him more.
‘He was kind of like the Black Mamba snake; fiercely aggressive, had a bad reputation, and was respected, admired, and feared all at the same time…….. he was strength and danger and raw sexuality…..‘ – Taryn
He really was hit for a loop when Taryn entered into his life and what was thought to be a “contracted” arrangement certainly turned into more as Taryn became loved and needed by not only Trey but his pack.
“I’d never purposely hurt you. Never. I’m a man which means I’ll fuck up. Regularly. I’m not good with words, I sprout crap when I’m angry, and I’m about as romantic as a pebble.” – Trey
Watching this man who had never experienced love develop feelings that confused him, watching him trying to express confront and express these feelings was a delight to read. Trey was beyond divine. I love the rawness of him.
“All I know is that I don’t want you to leave. If you do I’ll hunt you down and bring you back, Taryn, I shit you not, I will.” – Trey
G&J : So, we thought ‘Feral Sins’ had a great storyline, it did exactly what it states on that proverbial paranormal tin. It was ‘un-put-downable’; the story of wolf-packs, codes and rivalry written in real well with the romantic side of finding your one true mate.
“In a perfect world I would be taller, you would be alive, and chickens could cross the road without being the subject of a joke. Guess you’ll just have to deal.” – Taryn
We had our messed up hero and heroine with emotional walls so thick and tall that they fought anyone who tried to knock those walls down. It would take that special someone to break through.
“Don’t you realise that you missed a crucial part of your development as a person? – Taryn
He frowned…”I turned out alright.” – Trey
“Erections don’t equal personal growth, Trey.” – Taryn
Yep, we loved it, every single bit of it, even that controversial scene which was cut from the story in the later edition. Yeah sure, you could argue that it went against the grain of Trey’s possessive dominance but it didn’t spoil it for us. It may have been one of the hottest things we’ve read in a while and we didn’t think it ruined our reading experience in the slightest. Rather it made that ‘in the freezer’ reading time even more exciting if you ask us.
Passionate, hot, intense, fun and unputdownable. That was Feral Sins for us! Yes please WE WANT MORE!!!!!
