Our Review

Gitte: Colorado Mountain series is my favourite KA series and will always have a special place in my heart. It was my first and it set off a KA reading binge I’ll never forget! No-one in this series will ever beat Max & Nina, Tate & Lauren & Ty & Lexie….they’ll always claim those top spots of protective alpha heroes I love and heroines I admire and KA will always wear the crown for queen of awesome and alpha males….real men.

“You gave me my life back.”

So, what did I think of Kaleidoscope, well it wasn’t a favourite, for me it was sadly missing that KA magic, the drama, the lovable heroine and the intense emotional action at the end, but I enjoyed it nonetheless, I mean its KA, enough said. It had emotion and some heart-breaking moments as well as that feel good factor that KA is renowned for.

I have to admit though, I do miss pre-GCP Kristen Ashley who wrote epic stories. She rocked every single time….I love Kit to the moon and I LOVE her stories so this hurts real bad….but something has changed since being published and I want the old Kit back, the one who had me ignoring real life unable to put my kindle down. I want the EPIC back!!!

‘You think you lost beauty, Jacob, but you didn’t….Just turn the dial.’

Jenny:  We’ve been reliving KA’s stories in our Book club and introducing new readers to her amazing work had left me feeling nostalgic and thinking back to how I felt when I first picked up Sweet Dreams and Lady Luck. Those feelings of complete and absolute book love that KA always manages to evoke from me.  Those who knows me, know Ty and Lexie are without doubt one of my most favourite book couples, so to say I was chomping at the bit and eager to get back to The Colorado Mountain series is an understatement. It’s been months since I’ve read anything from KA and I’ve missed her books terribly so I was primed and ready to go.

“I thought you were just a loner,”…..”You’re not. You’re just determined to be alone.” – Jacob

However, what I wasn’t at all prepared for was what my reaction would be to Kaleidoscope. I did love some of the interaction between Jacob and Emme and I did feel the passion between them, though not always and it absolutely breaks my heart to say this…but…this one didn’t entirely work for me and all through it I kept thinking that something was missing. Where was the drama? Where was my connection to the characters? Where was the kick arse epilogue? After all, KA isn’t known as the epilogue Queen for nothing. Her epilogues have never failed to move me to the point of sobbing and I eagerly flick through and devour every page in anticipation of getting to THAT epilogue. But sadly, the epilogue in Kaleidoscope left me a little flat.

“Be that girl….”  “Be that girl who just gave my boy sweet. Please be that girl, Emme.”-Rich

There was still much I really liked about this book. It was moving, beautiful and touching at times and it still retained the KA wit we love so much, but sadly there just wasn’t enough of a storyline or a connection to the characters to hook me completely. Yes G! Bring back the EPIC!!!

G&J: So yeah, as everyone knows we’re both huge fans of KA, we’ve loved her for years now and many of her couples will be in our hearts forever. But you guys know that we always have to be honest and how we feel about an Author will never influence our book ratings and reviews. After all, we are reviewing the book, not the author. We will always pick up a KA book and we will always enjoy it, no question. But we cannot in fairness say Kaleidoscope was as amazing as The Gamble, Sweet Dreams and Lady Luck in this same series and we gave those a five star rating.

Now, we look forward to The Will by KA, especially as we sent Kristen an email two years ago saying we’d love for her to write a story about a fighter because of the amazing alpha characters she writes. So to say we’re excited is an understatement! Bring it on Kristen and bring the EPIC back!! We love you to the moon, baby!

Synopsis

Sexy, gifted, and loyal, PI Jacob Decker is a tall, cool drink of perfection who had Emmanuelle Holmes at “hello.” His relationship with Emme’s best friend kept them apart for years, but things have changed. Now that a case has brought him to Gnaw Bone, Colorado, the road is wide open for Emme and Deck to explore something hotter and deeper than Emme dreamed possible. So why is she sabotaging the best thing that’s ever happened to her?

It isn’t easy to catch Deck off guard, but Emme does just that when she walks back into his life after nine long years. The curvy brunette had her charms back in the day, but now she’s a bona fide knockout . . . and she wants to rekindle their friendship. Deck, however, wants more. Emme’s always been the one; she excites Deck’s body and mind like no other woman can. But a dark chapter from Emme’s past overshadows their future together. Now only Deck can help her turn the page-if she’ll let him . .

Thanks Ladies lovely and honest review. I adore KA so so much and I have also felt that her last two books have not been as EPIC as her previous in the series. I have see this happen with ohter authors who get published by a “traditional” Publisher. My question to these publishers is “why change the style of an author so much if her previous books have been so loved in their initial format?” Wouldn’t it make more sense to let her continue writing in the style that’s making her special and different (in a good way) from other authors? Why risk changing something that is obviously working and risk upsetting her huge fan base? ANyway, just the musings of a reader LOL I am sure there’s a TON I do not know with regards to publishing but I am so in love with her stories that it mkes me really sad that they are trying to change her style of storytelling :((
