FIGHTING DESTINY (The Fae Chronicles #1) by AMELIA HUTCHINS

Gitte: Oooooh I liked this one, I liked it A LOT, Jenny. I was always a paranormal girl at heart and this one proved just why. The thrilling mystery, the magic, the secrets and intrigue with heroes and heroines with powers that make them that much more kick arse. Fighting Destine was one action packed and hot as hell ride. We’re being spoilt at the moment with fab paranormal aren’t we and this time we have a pick ‘n mix of Vampires, Fae, Witches and the enigmatic HOT sexy Ryder. Yeah, not sure what the hell he is but I fell in complete lust and love nonetheless. This ‘beast’ is arrogant, aggressive, evil and sex incarnate.

‘Ryder was not the kind of man you walked away from. He was the type you crawled away from, trying to remember your own name after he was done with you.’

Oh and he has a host of cool powers and umm tricks up his sleeves and down his jeans…uh oh….. I have to say Jenny, I’m not sure if I’m supposed to love him or not but I know that I do despite not fully knowing his intentions yet.

“I don’t make excuses for what I am, or what I do. I play hard. I love hard, and I fuck even harder, Syn. I am what I am.”

This Dark Fae Prince wants our Syn, the kick arse power house witch with a tragic and horrific past and who’s shrouded in spells and secrets. Whilst Syn is a control freak hell bent on fighting for what she believes in and mourning the people she loved; Ryder has his own agenda. But what is it? GAH… I need to know!!

‘I’ve been watching her for a very long time now, planning….She smells of magic, wild and untameable. Wild magic is dangerous.’

Fighting Destiny wasn’t just a thrilling paranormal ride, it came across quite unique and every single character played a part in this journey. I thought it had great humour too….

“You stole my car.”
“Borrowed it I did, return it I will.”
“Okay Yoda, can I have the woman whose body you stole back?”

….and it had great fight scenes as well as unusual and HOT nookie. There were tender moments too which softened up all the confusion, double crossing and violent killings.

“Love is more than just feeling something Syn, it’s the connection of two souls that intertwine and cannot be without the other. It’s not just saying you love someone, its showing them with every fucking breath you take, every look. It just is, simple as that. That kind of love doesn’t die. It withers the soul without the other to keep it alive.”

I have to say I got whiplash from all the twists and turns in this story but it kept me guessing all the way till the end and beyond, because I’m still not sure on who or what everyone is and who they’re all fighting for and against. I LOVED that and now I’m dying to head straight on into book two.

I loved the few times we go Ryder’s POV whilst being with Syn. It made him that much more powerful to me due to the way he speaks and his veiled intentions makes him sound like a complete ruthless arse…a lush arse though!! Seriously, how addictive was this read Jenny?! And how much do we want to read book #2 now!

Jenny:  Oh my, did I OVE this book G!!  I feel as if I want to lock myself away from everything around me and just devour the rest of this series in one sitting. This certainly did have it all G. We’ve been finding our paranormal feet again after a bit of an absence and I have to agree, we really have been spoilt with our re-emergence into this genre and Fighting Destiny certainly fed our renewed addiction just nicely thank you very much! What a wickedly delicious and entertaining book this was. I have to say, my first foray into the Adult world of Faery was a screaming success thanks to the wonderfully amusing and extremely passionate Syn and Ryder…….Oh dear lord where to even start with Ryder. I think I want a one way ticket to Faery!

“Syn, I’m the kinda dirty that doesn’t wash off……”

What a complete mystery this man is. He’s as alluring as he is intimidating and I think I lost count of the times we both uttered the words “what/who the hell IS HE” to each other throughout this book. I’m none the wiser!

“I want you, and I make no excuses for what I am, Syn.” – Ryder

However, that didn’t stop us falling head over heels in lust and love with him. No sireeee…..Mr Dark Fae Prince Ryder was sex on legs and I loved this arrogant, cock sure arse!

“So, ask me what you want to know.” – Syn
“How many lovers have you taken between your thighs?” – Ryder

A beautiful, powerful, possessive, carnal and highly sexual beast of a man he who is obsessed with control and exudes sex and sensuality from every pore.  And yes G, he certainly had a pack of powerful equipment hiding in those jeans and not all of it was of the Fae variety!  Pass the fan!

‘I was sex starved, and he was sex incarnate.’- Syn

The sexual tension and chemistry between Ryder and Synthia positively sizzled and the banter between the two had me giggling one minute and fearing Syn’s safety the next.

“I’m not sleeping with you. I don’t care if you’re starving and writhing on the fucking floor. I’ll walk over you and out that damn door……” – Syn
“I do not writhe on the floor, ever.” – Ryder

Boy, did Syn push Ryder’s buttons…above and below the navel! This sexy, voluptuous dynamo burst into Ryder’s world and tipped it on its axis. She had him questioning every thought, decision and threw his reasoning out the window, all as she tried to decipher what was going unfolding in her world.  Syn certainly was a bit of a head mess for the control freak Ryder and she was as cocky as her male counterpart and what a passionate, confusing and intoxicating duo they were!

This book kept me engrossed and transfixed. From the hypnotic world of magic created by Amelia Hutchins, to the twists, turns and turmoil which were all brought to life with vivid imagery, intrigue, suspense and real emotion woven into the story line. Not to mention we had a heroine who kicked arse and a cocky hero (can we call him that?)who, on the very occasional times he let his guard down had moments of tenderness and feeling….or did he?

I loved getting inside Ryder’s head, even if his thought process did have me questioning him further and confused me even more Yet, I eagerly flicked through the pages waiting for him to pop up (no pun intended) because his voice was such a contradiction. Just when I thought I had an “aha” moment, he’d stick in a roadblock and have me second guessing and wondering what was to come next, which only added to my further enjoyment of this book.  Yep, I’d say we were addicted!

G&J:  So, if you want to take a walk on the wild side with some hot as Hades arrogantly beautiful Faery…

Some tantalising Vamps, some magical witches and some……oh hell, who knows what the rest of them are, but we know we’re dying to find out, then grab this book now. Fighting Destiny had real passion, thrills and some real tear-jerking emotion. It’s basically a kick arse paranormal that consumed us from start to finish. So why not five stars; well the copy we purchased on Amazon had a few punctuation issues as well as misused and missing words that at times had us re-reading a sentence or two, but we have to say this hiccup didn’t spoil what was ultimately a fun, steamy, entertaining,  gripping and addictive read! We’ll catch you later….we’re heading off to purchase Taunting Destiny (The Fae Chronicles #2).
