ANGEL AFTER DARK (After Dark #1) by KAHLEN AYMES

Gitte: So we’ve had this one on our kindles for a while haven’t we, Jenny and we’ve been missing out that’s for sure. The writing was ‘spot on’ flawless; the characters written with such precision and attention to detail. The atmosphere of the story was brilliant too as were the other characters who I really enjoyed. I laughed at the hilarious banter, I swooned at the romantic passion and I felt the emotion of the hurt and darkness lurking within.

‘You leave me defenceless…it’s like I’m drowning, grasping and clawing for every breath.’

What a slow building luscious intro to a new series with a fabulous strong kick arse heroine who also has a sweet broken side and a very commanding presence.

“She’s gonna chew him up and spit him out. I love it.”

I loved the fact that Angeline was an honest, intelligent ‘no nonsense’ woman. She knows who she is and what she wants, despite a few issues as a consequence of heartbreak in her past. Her reluctance to give her heart fully was understandable and whilst her indecision towards the end started to grate on me a little; it never became a huge issue for me.

Jenny:  All I can think about at this moment is Alexander Avery. Swoon city! Boy am I glad we finally took the plunge to meet the divine Mr Avery because we sure have been missing out…on both the story and this delectable man!

“When we’re together like this, all I want to do is feel. There is no other choice.”

I was pulled into Angel After Dark from the very beginning Gitte and loved how the author slowly and teasingly led us in to Alex and Angel’s story which was mixed with a bit of mystery, suspense and lots of sexual chemistry, all with the promise of more to come! I relished the deliciously flirty and naughty banter which was like a form of foreplay between two sexy and sassy characters. I couldn’t help but become engulfed in the passion and humour between two people who were completely taken aback by their sizzling connection.

“Do you have anything real? Has anyone ever touched you on a deeper level? Motivated you to really want? Want so much with your heart and body that it left you literally aching….?”

Angeline was very much her own woman and a woman of many layers too. As sweet as she was tough, she was successful, kind, resilient and although like you her indecision did grate a little…really? How could you second guess yourself with this man?  However, once we got to the gist of Angeline’s back story I understood her reluctance and admired her for what she had made of herself.

Gitte: Then there’s Alex, our hero, who let’s face it, has just about everything you’d desire in a book boyfriend! I fell in love with this guy and at times I just couldn’t understand Angel’s hesitation but then at the same time I respected the hell out of her for it. Don’t think I could have been that strong to resist!

“…damn it, he was funny and sexy and brilliant. Lethal.”

The sexual tension, the emotional connection and the comedic stand-off between Alex and Angel was fab; I loved it! What a journey for both of them on their individual path in life as well as the one they reluctantly embark upon together.

“Why do you want to break me? Make me lose control? Lose myself?”

My favourite scenes has to be the radio ones which set the ball rolling. I was in stitches and thought the writing was class! There was also a threat and suspense simmering in the background which I can’t wait to get my teeth into in book #2…wait hang on, that’s Alex I can’t……I of course mean that I can’t wait to experience the action and drama which I’m sure will explode….oh wait, that would also be Alex or me…or both…… I’m going to stop here I think!

“I don’t want you to lose yourself, honey. I’m trying to find you. To keep you with me.”

As for cliff-hangers, in my opinion I thought this was a walk in the park, though I am gagging to find out how the suspenseful drama will unfold and what happens next. Do you agree, Jenny?

Jenny:  No thinking needed my book soulmate,  I completely share your befuddlement.   I can’t form a coherent thought every time I think about the sexy, sensual, successful and totally scrumptious Alex. This is one determined man in business and in pleasure, providing it’s on a purely physical level that is because Alex doesn’t have time for complications or emotions in his relationships . I admit that I fell in insta love with him and my feelings only intensified as the story progressed.

“Just kiss me. I need you to kiss me. Give in to this.”

Angel’s a better woman than me because I couldn’t have shown such fortitude in attempting to resist this man’s advances. He would have had me at hello! But as you said, I understood her reasoning’s and respected them.

“Baby, I’m right here, too.”

I loved how Kahlen Aymes set the groundwork in this first book. She allowed us to dip our toes in just enough without getting completely wet and I feel there is much to uncover in Confessions After Dark.  I completely agree with you about the ending Gitte. It was done splendidly and left me anticipating the next book all the more. More Alex…yipppeeee! More great story, more drama, more intrigue and suspense, more passion….….like you said….mmmmmmm more Alex. I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds.
