J&G:   Well, we’ve been patiently waiting for Reese ‘Picnic’ Hayes story after being teased throughout the series. We desperately wanted to get to know Reese, the father, the husband, the lover and the President of the Reapers MC; and he certainly had a story to tell. There were many sides to Reece; loving husband, doting father, and loyal friend and yet here was a man who could also be quite terrifying and violent. You wouldn’t want him as an enemy that’s for sure! He was quite the contradiction and we loved him, we believed the relationship between Reese and London to a point and we once again revelled in the theme of brotherhood and family that is woven throughout this series.

“There’s something about you, London, something that’s real in a way I can’t even begin to explain. I like it and I want it.”

The prologue drew us in immediately! Holy hell we couldn’t wait to discover how that came about and we read with a feeling of trepidation as events began to unfold.

‘This was the reality of Reese Hayes, and it was darker than I ever imagined. He terrified me.’

All the drama, suspense, banter, heat and emotion we’ve come to associate with this series was definitely present in Reaper’s Stand as we once again entered the depths of their MC world.

We will say it was refreshing to have a story that focused on two older characters. Characters that brought life experience to the table. There really is something extremely riveting in this instance as it’s so scarce in books, which is a real shame. So, thank you Jo Wylde!

‘I already had what I wanted. Him. This.  Us.’

Reese ‘Picnic’ Hayes loved deeply but sadly lost the other half of his heart when his wife passed away leaving him to raise two daughters who gave him hell. His life had appeared to revolve around the Reaper’s and shagging anything in a skirt. The love that he held for his wife both warmed and broke our hearts. The moments of reflection were pure emotional perfection and had us reading with tears in our eyes.

London Armstrong was kind and giving. She radiated a warmth that drew her to Reece. The chemistry between them was intense, their relationship passionate and tumultuous to say the least.

‘This wasn’t sex – this was revenge and it was perfect.’

There were many aspects of this story we loved and some that merely didn’t work. At times the story felt opportunistic and too easy to swallow and we just didn’t buy the outcome of the dramatic twist which we won’t be giving away. It felt implausible and yes, we know it’s fiction but we’ve come to know and love these biker boys and their ‘code’ and what eventuated just didn’t wash with us. Having said that the parts we loved in the story seemed to balance out those negative aspects on the whole.

‘I wanted to take all of his hate and pain and anger and own it because I deserved it…’

There were times when Picnic and London’s story, their thoughts and voices felt very reminiscent of characters we’ve read before and although Reaper’s Stand wasn’t our favourite of the series, it’s still a read we very much enjoyed. There was much to love about the characters and the story and we’d definitely recommend this one to readers who love a good biker book and also fans of Kristen Ashley stories.
