DANGEROUS GIRLS by ABIGAIL HAAS

Our Review
‘Any one of us could be made to look like a monster…’
G&J: Brilliant. Thrilling. Mind Blowing. Addictive. Abigail Haas we want to give you a standing ovation as Dangerous Girls quickly turned into one of our favourite reads of 2014. No question about it; this story is fascinating as it explores the psychology of minds and behaviour. The writing is flawless and creates such an intense atmosphere and engages all your emotions. This Author placed little teasers and clues along the way making us think and speculate as the story progressed and whilst we suspected everyone at one stage or another we did ultimately guess the who and the why early on but were not prepared for just how bloody fantastic and chilling the revelation was going to be. And we mean spine-tingling chilling! We both had to re-read the last few pages as we were left thinking oh bloody hell, wow! The subtlety with which this Author writes magnified this story into its amazing status of an awe-inspiring must read.
‘Wouldn’t we all look guilty, if someone searched hard enough.’
Dangerous Girls reads like a movie; honestly as a reader this is as brilliant as it gets; we were there with this group of friends and we felt the haunting flashbacks with Anna, Elise and Tate. We felt the heart break and the disturbing and unnerving tension of the present. It was quite frankly downright eerie, cruel and haunting at times. We were reminded of actual real-life events which it bore some resemblance to as well.
‘I know how important a single shot can be, the story that can replace facts and hard evidence with just a single, perfect frame.’
The way in which this story is structured was outstanding; the flashbacks; the court room drama; the way in which we as readers saw and heard the evidence. It was vivid, unique, intense and original. We bloody LOVED it! We felt completely engaged in this mind blowing puzzle of tragedy and intrigue.
‘I’m here, I exist. I’ll be okay.’
The way in which the characters are developed and written in this story is brave and very accomplished. They have an ugly truth that shows imperfection and the more ugly side of humanity. In other words none are fictionally perfect or beautiful; they’re real. They’re human.
‘I don’t even know who I am anymore.’
Nothing was ultimately given away and Abigail Haas left a lot for the reader to think about and digest, which we loved and enjoyed. Yet if you peeked behind a word; a look or a reaction, the enormity of the passion; the psychology of the relationships and the startling obsession slowly pieced itself together. You will feel angry – incredibly so, suspicious, sympathetic and devastated in equal measure. You will hate everyone and everything yet you will ultimately LOVE this story with all your reading heart and soul. You will experience perfection in the most surprising and unusual way. Your mind will be BLOWN.
Synopsis

It’s Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off to a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives.
But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations. As Anna sets out to find her friend’s killer, she discovers harsh revelations about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love.
Awaiting the judge’s decree, it becomes clear to Anna that everyone around her thinks she is not only guilty, but also dangerous. And when the whole story comes out, reality is more shocking than anyone could ever imagine…
