We really enjoyed the first book in this series so excitedly jumped feet first into the waters of Bristol Island once again. This time to join Cohen and Dylan the single sexy neighbours; one a hot yummy Doctor – the other a slightly reclusive and mysterious Author. We should mention that although this is a series these books can be read as standalones.

‘The truth was she didn’t know how to stop wanting him. She didn’t know how to let that desire go. And she didn’t want to torment herself with him.’

The forbidden is always that much more enticing and there’s nothing more exciting and seductive than a brand new attraction or the initial feelings of want and lust. When Dylan meets her neighbour Cohen she falls immediately without knowing anything about this striking man. He immediately becomes a muse for her current work in progress and her imagination runs rampant. She’s not alone in this though as Cohen too has fallen under this demure author’s spell. However; nothing runs smoothly as encounter upon encounter leaves them in compromising situations that would seriously harm the career of our gorgeous Doctor as well as expose the past of the sweet Author with a huge ‘chip on her shoulder’.

‘He wanted to feel all of her – every inch. The woman he couldn’t ethically fuck, he wanted to fuck six ways to Sunday without a single socially acceptable barrier between them.’

Bloody hell this book was steamy; it felt new and slightly ‘confused as to what it wanted to be’ but in a good way. As in; there was no clear line of what would come next. It was hot and surprising. We loved Cohen’s filthy mouth and the frantic moments where he lost himself in the passion. These sure sent our pulses racing.

“You’re so afraid of the world.”

Where we did feel slightly lost in our lack of enjoyment was the repetitiveness and how we didn’t actually feel like we truly got to know our characters despite the intense focus on them. Sure we learnt what would keep their romance at bay and what brought them to the moment that would keep them apart. However; they felt like acquaintances of ours rather than our friends if that makes sense. Also; our other only issue was how a certain awkward situation kept rearing its cringe worthy head. We can’t say what this moment was because it’s an important part of the story-line. All we can say is that this ‘moment’ seriously bothered us to the point it actually hampered our enjoyment. Not the act itself; we’ve all been there; but the feelings that transpired and were felt in that moment. It was too awkward and uncomfortable for us and nowhere close to sexy. That could very well be a personal thing though and probably won’t bother all if any readers.

“I was thinking about…..touching you, tasting you, fucking you, what you would sound like coming.”

So yes, overall we did enjoy Dylan and Cohen’s story, however, it’s not our favourite in this series. What we will stress is that Elizabeth Finn is a fabulous writer; she has originality and there’s moments of such beauty and passion that evokes ever one of our book addict’s senses.
