It goes without saying; we didn’t need to be asked twice if we wanted to review Overruled! Emma Chase is so proficient in writing from a male point of view, we knew we were in for some fun and once again she nailed it.  She had us believing we were listening to the inner workings of the male psyche as though it really WAS Stanton regaling us with HIS words.

‘She’s frank, direct, but also fun. A woman I consider a friend – someone I enjoy going out with as much as I enjoy going down on.”

Stanton Shaw……wow! What a man! A clever, cocky, confident git who could charm the knickers off a Nun.  A smooth as silk lawyer with a dirty mouth and a Southern drawl that left us swooning and melting at every ‘darlin’ he uttered.

“You are beautiful.”  He says in a low, awed voice, with just a touch of southern.
Three words.

There was more to Stanton than met the eye, he was also a loving and devoted father to his gorgeous little girl Presley and fiercely dedicated to his friends and family. The scenes with Presley stole our breaths and had us melting in a puddle. Our hearts were in danger of overflowing with love and cuteness between these two. Warning: Guard those ovaries ladies because Daddy Stanton is a sight to behold!

We will admit we were a tad concerned at the beginning that the story was going to head down a certain road and both voiced concerns about it in one of our progressive phone catch- ups but there was NO WAY we couldn’t continue with the story.

“You’re so stuck on what you think is supposed to be, that you’re missin’ what’s right in front of you.”

We adored Sofia. Sofia and Stanton were perfect together. They kicked arse in the courtroom and burned with passion in the bedroom. Sofia was also the perfect foil for Stanton’s acerbic wit, giving as good as she got. Sofia was a rational, intelligent woman who was able to control everything except her heart. The occasional POV’s from Sofia were heartbreaking as we saw behind the ‘friends’ façade she displayed to those around her where Stanton was concerned.

This book ticked the boxes! It was passionate, funny, heart-warming, frustrating and different to what we expected, in a good way. By frustrating we mean there were times we wanted to slap Stanton upside the head over his cluelessness at recognising what was in front of him, but his boyish charm, dirty mouth and humorous wit won us over every damn time!

“Change your mind?” she teases. “Want to dance after all.”
“I want to fuck,”I breathe against her ear, making her shiver. “You. In case there was any doubt. Now.”

There were some things we felt unnecessary to provide the ‘ahaaa’ moments and we found we didn’t learn enough about Jenny to begin with to connect with, and solidify hers and Stanton’s relationship;  to understand Stanton’s reasoning and desperation where Jenny was concerned.

“I look at you and I see a thousand summer days. The best moments of my life.”

The banter between the characters was done with effortless, precision timing and don’t even get us started on those courtroom scenes!! They were as hot as the sex itself!!!! Oh and a special mention has to go to Nana. What a HOOT she was! We loved Overruled and we’re dying to see what await us in Brent and Jake’s books later this year. We’re already hooked on this series!
