Sole Sisters is the sequel to The Boots My Mother Gave Me which was an absolute five star read for me. I fell in love with all the characters, the sentiments and the beauty and was so excited to read the sequel. I’d highly recommend reading this series in order to get the full enjoyment as well as meet all the characters from their beginnings. Brooklyn James is a brilliant Author and her characters are so incredibly real and their story so emotional. You will LOVE The Boots My Mother Gave Me and you will revel in Sole Sisters!

In Sole Sister we catch up with everyone years down the line and much has changed for our Kit-Kat as well as Harley and Miah. Harley is now a sought after song writer, Miah a SWAT officer and Kat is an up and coming designer. Their bond is incredibly strong and both are still trying to be at peace with their abusive childhood and old insecurities; Kat in particular is still having recurring nightmares about her Father.

“You ever wish you had it to do all over again? With someone you could count on?”

“As sure as I breathe.”

Kat’s kismet makes a surprising and much deserved entrance when the gorgeous SWAT Officer Connor Reese enters her life. A man who truly sees Kat and whose life mirrors hers in some respects. Kat’s scared, in fact she’s petrified as her track record hasn’t been great, heart-break is a devastating feeling. Her priority is her teenage daughter as well as her own fragile heart. This makes her reluctant to try her hand at a second chance at love. Connor’s not having any of that though and their relationship was really quite beautiful, mature and inspirational. Whilst I did struggle at times as I found that we didn’t get enough detail – instead there seemed to be an over emphasis on Kat’s inner musing and theorising – it did feel real and believable.

Sole Sister is a beautiful, sweet, emotional, heart-warming and hopeful story. There’s so many real to life messages in there, albeit fiction. It shows strength, unconditional love and that trusting your heart and letting people in despite fears of being hurt can be truly beautiful. A really enjoyable read and a series I highly recommend.
