Our Review

‘But sometimes, I supposed, a girl just had to be her own hero.’

When Mia Sheridan releases a new book we get all giddy with excitement because this Author sure knows how to write a beautiful, imaginative, evocative and highly emotional story. So, we eagerly began Grayson’s Vow anticipating to swoon and cry in equal measure. We were expecting the Mia Sheridan who pulls at our heartstrings and gives us such inspiring hope and love through her originality and flawless writing.

“Love is not always smooth and easy. Love can be piercing. Love means exposing yourself – all of yourself, every tender part – to being hurt. Because true love is not only the flower, true love is also the thorns.”

Whilst there’s no denying that Mia Sheridan is one class Author who hooks you from page one with the beauty of her words we just didn’t fall in love with Grayson’s Vow. We enjoyed it and we absolutely loved the last 30% and the epilogue which was high impact emotionally, however overall we found it quite predictable, repetitive and we just didn’t feel the emotion we normally do when we read a book by this Author. We didn’t cry…shock horror. We rely on Mia Sheridan to make us cry and truly feel. This time we didn’t really and that saddened us.

“This marriage doesn’t require any luck. We already set it up to fail.”

Grayson’s Vow read like a fantasy; the Dragon and the Witch. It would make a great fairy-tale movie and we’d be first in line to watch it. A story of rags to riches but not in a monetary sense but the human riches of love, hope, friendship and compassion.

“You bring me peace, little witch, and you put a fire in my blood.”

These two characters both carried the world on their shoulders through harrowing childhoods and severe lack of love and support through their younger years leading into as far as adulthood. It was an emotional account in some parts that did touch us. Especially, as we mentioned the latter part of the story. We just wished it had been through the whole story in true Mia Sheridan style. Her own unique style that we’ve loved since day one.

‘My beautiful little witch – there was magic within her, and I wanted to bathe in its light.’

Synopsis

Kira Dallaire is desperate.

Some challenges in life seem too hard to overcome. With little money, and even fewer options, the quick-witted and vibrant twenty-two-year-old needs to reinvent herself. Known for her generous heart and impulsive personality, she devises a survival plan, possibly her most outrageous idea yet.

Grayson Hawthorn is losing hope.

Some obstacles in life seem too hard to overcome. Betrayal definitely being one of them. With limited capital, and dwindling resources, he is attempting to resurrect his failing family vineyard, a self-imposed vow seemingly destined to fail. That is until a young woman enters his office with an outlandish, unexpected proposition impossible to refuse.

What begins as a temporary business arrangement, soon evolves into more as vivacious, spirited Kira challenges detached, arrogant Grayson to want more from life. To want more for himself. But as their wills clash and fiery passion ignites, they’ll realize that sometimes the past creates walls too difficult to climb, and that lies and deception rarely precede a happily every after.

As Kira and Grayson race toward their destiny, they will discover that some vows are meant to be broken, and others are worth risking everything for . . . even your very own heart.
