HEARTS OF BLUE (Hearts #4) by L H COSWAY

This weekend we desperately needed to escape the real world and lose ourselves between the pages of a book. We desired a read that would make us laugh, produce the odd tear here and there and completely envelop us in some witty, sexy, swoony and moving storytelling and who better to fit that bill than the insanely talented L H Cosway. And weren’t we glad we chose Hearts of Blue because we were once more caught up in the engaging and atmospheric beauty of her world and her characters. L H Cosway sure writes addictive stories! There is a warmth to her characters, a cheekiness to her prose and pure love that exudes from her words that has us falling in love with her stories time and again.

We were initially teased by Karla and Lee in King of Hearts and were ecstatic to learn they would be getting a book. Just what did naughty Lee whisper in police constable Karla’s ear that had her blushing? Well, all is revealed in Hearts of Blue, a story about two opposites, on both sides of the law who have an undeniable attraction and sizzling chemistry. They develop some very deep feelings, but just how the hell they were ever going to make this relationship work was anybody’s guess. As the book says….she upholds the law and he certainly breaks it…and in that regard, Lee Cross makes no apologies for his life of crime in any way, shape or form. This man does what he needs to do to support his family and survive and boy didn’t we LOVE this man! Not to mention he has some mad cooking skills!

“You’re kind of incredible.” Lee whispered, “you should come back to mine. We’ll go to bed. I’ll even let you keep your clothes on. I’ll hold you tight, and we’ll fall asleep. “Then we’ll wake up a little while later. You’ll be wet, I’ll be hard, I’ll peel off your clothes and slip into you easily, like I was always supposed to be there. Afterward I’ll cook, and we’ll eat dinner in bed.”

The family dynamics between the Cross boys, Stu, Lee, Trevor and Liam and their cousin Sophie, was so incredibly heart-warming and so flipping beautiful – we constantly sat with huge dopey grins on our faces when they interacted. These guys have had it tough. They’d been forced to grow up and rely on one another and the love, loyalty, banter and camaraderie between the brothers stole our hearts.

Karla Sheehan is the flatmate and best friend of Alexis in KOH. This lady has policing in her blood and is a dedicated officer who follows the law to the letter ; quite the opposite to the law breaking brass-necked Lee.   Can she bring him into line or would she be forced to cross the thin blue line into Lee’s world? You’ll have to check it out and see!

There is something so engaging, unique and compulsive about an L H Cosway story that has us eagerly anticipating her releases. We chomp at the bit to pick them up; with Hearts of Blue we were again consumed by her words. We did have a couple of niggles that prevented this being a 5 star read which mostly related to consistency and factual errors that took us out of the story a couple of times, and we felt this didn’t quite pack the punch her last two reads held for us, but overall this neither detracted from, or impacted on our enjoyment of Lee and Karla’s story.

And some fabulous news that sent our book hearts into overdrive…there will be two more books coming out in 2016!
