Our Review

‘We shy away from the things that hurt us – that have hurt us in the past.
That’s what scars are for. They protect the wounds. Cover them with thick, numb tissue so we’ll never feel the same pain again. The bottom of my stump is one big, hard callus.
But the scars Kennedy has inside? They’re even tougher.’

Emma Chase does it again! This lady really is the undisputed queen of the male pov. Her words are full of humour, passion, heat, heart-warming stories and engaging characters, her male observations have us cringing and giggling in equal measures and in Appealed, she finishes off a series that has become one of our favourites. We’ve loved every book, though we have to say Jake still remains our favourite guy! There was just something about Jake, Chelsea and those kids…sigh.

But we’ve been dying for Brent’s story since following him through the series and being the last of the blokes to find love, with his background and that silver spoon, we knew he would supply us with many laugh out loud moments and again we weren’t disappointed.

“You planned this all along, didn’t you? Screwing me silly, lulling me into a false sense of security so I’ll drop my guard and you can win the case.” She hisses
“You think my cock is powerful enough to turn you stupid?”

This is the quintessential first crush, second chance romance meets ugly duckling becoming the beautiful swan. Brent Mason has known Kennedy Randolph most of his life. They were best friends as children and at seventeen they started to explore being more than friends, however it didn’t pan out and Kennedy disappeared from Brent’s life. After nearly fifteen years, she’s back minus the baggy sweaters and looking absolutely drop dead gorgeous as the prosecutor to his defence, throwing Brent for a loop.

“We haven’t seen each other in almost fifteen years, Judge. So the truth is, we don’t know each other at all.”

Brent is the baby faced, rich, intelligent, and forthright one of the guys. He has his butler Harrison to look after him, money coming out of his ears, and a slew of women to warm his bed, even with his mother’s relentless pursuit to have him married off, Brent has no interest in settling down.

“All the perks, none of the obligation. Life is short – I want to live it. And I really like living it free.”

But Kennedy isn’t just someone. They have a past and Brent decides he also wants a future with the feisty prosecutor and of course, the banter was saucy, the chemistry electric and the exchanges a lot of fun!

“What’d you do to your eyes?”
“They’re called contact lenses.”
“Well, take them out. I don’t like them. Your real eyes are incredible.”
“What’d you do to your face?”
“I grew a beard.”
“Well ungrow it. It looks like a vagina from a 1970’s porn film.”

Emma Chase starts Appealed at a point that had us gagging to know what transpired before then and we loved it. Brent and Kennedy were a great match for one another both in and out of the courtroom and seeing Brent brought to his knees was a little reminiscent of Drew in Tangled, he was out of his depth and watching him trying to woo his lady was hilarious, sweet, sexy and captivating.

Catching up with the other characters was also a highlight, we’ve loved these guys and craved any morsel we could to see how they were faring and don’t get us started on the epilogue. That kicked epi arse! It was so beautiful….our hearts swelled!

Appealed hit the spot and capped off a fabulous Legal series that had all the bite, sarcasm and wit we love from Emma Chase. A definite recommend but be warned…you’ll have sore cheeks at the end from grinning and smiling so much! Funny, engaging and extremely appealing!

Synopsis

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate – and prized – parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Christian Louboutins.

Brent has never let the loss of his leg in a childhood accident affect his ability to lead a fulfilling life. He sets high goals–and then he reaches them.

And now he has his sights set on Kennedy.
**
When Kennedy looks at Brent Mason, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue-worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell.

She’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore – she’s a DC prosecutor with a long winning streak behind her. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case and she thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.

But things aren’t exactly working out that way.

Because every fiery exchange has her wondering if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. Each argument and objection only makes him want her more. In the end, Brent and Kennedy may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.
