NEIGHBOR DEAREST by PENELOPE WARD

Our Review
‘I believed love was indestructible. I was wrong.’
We love that we pretty much know what we’re going to get when we pick up a new book from Penelope Ward. She has a formula and it’s one we enjoy; swoon-worthy messed up heroes and strong yet somehow vulnerable heroines. We know that we’ll have a good giggle and maybe even a sad tear or two. Always well written with a bit of everything we love thrown in. Oh and kudos to Penelope Ward being able to make fun of herself in her books. We LOVE that!
“It’s not always as simple as….Someone fucking their stepsister.”
“That really happened? Sounds like something out of a bad book.”
Neighbor Dearest was no exception, we fell in love with Damien and we felt our hearts deeply involved in his and Chelsea’s story. This is a standalone but if you’ve read Stepbrother Dearest you’ll know the background to Chelsea’s story.
“Don’t be afraid to say what you want. Life is too short.”
Chelsea’s heart was broken by Elec, her now ex-boyfriend, and she’s struggling to move on and learn to live again. She feels completely broken and is failing to understand how everything happened, blaming and questioning herself in the process. Moving into a new apartment block she is living day to day spending her nights on the phone with a therapist trying to heal.
“I want to enjoy my life unapologetically, and I don’t take anything for granted.”
Chelsea’s healing process begins when her sister, Jade and her have an encounter with the mysterious and enigmatic, Damien. This guy turns out to be more than what meets the eye and soon becomes a constant in Chelsea’s life. She is mesmerized with him yet he seems to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders and forces an unwanted distance between them. Hurrah for two barking dogs, the double D’s!
“I think the level of love that is irreplaceable is the highest level.”
As they say it’ll all come out in the wash and their journey is one of chills, thrills and passionate spills. Neighbor Dearest had romance, pervy heat, humour, high emotion and at times some good old cheese. Camel toe kissing…really?! Ewww, hahahaha. We definitely recommend this standalone feel good story with one of the best epilogues that had our hearts in a puddle on the floor. We have to point out that we absolutely loved the message of ‘changing the story’ which we’re sure you will too when you pick this book up. We ‘ducking’ loved it and if we had Damien’s number we’d text him too asking him to come over for a duck.
“You are the most unintentionally romantic person I have ever meet.”
Synopsis

After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec.
Damien was a hotter version of my ex.
The neighbor I’d dubbed “Angry Artist” also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking.
He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall.
Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist.
The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities.
We got to talking.
He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup.
He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn’t be anything more.
Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same…because his heartbeat didn’t lie.
I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien.
I just hoped he wouldn’t shatter it for good.
