Woah! We had one hell of a weekend of high end angst and drama. A weekend of first loves, soul mates and that strong infinity one person can have with another. Once we picked up the Black Swan Affair WE COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! It was mesmerizing, addicting, frustrating, heart-breaking, romantic and passionate. It was thought provoking and brings up so many topics for discussion. This is without question a winner, as it left us sitting dazed and emotionally wrecked for hours after, unable to stop thinking about what we’d just read- our feelings still at optimum levels. Conflicted yet convinced of the importance and true meaning behind every word written. A choice and decision shared no matter the pain in our hearts.

‘Where Killian is ruthless, Kael is compassionate. Kael is outgoing and chatty, Killian more reserved. He’s serious to Kael’s fun loving personality. And where Killian would apparently do anything for himself, Kael would do anything for me.’

This is not a story to be forgotten- the journey was too intense, painful yet beautifully twisted and heart-felt. This is the ultimate love triangle. One that grabs your heart, one where you really feel and understand everyone involved. A story where LOVE is the main character. It is not an easy read but it is one where your very being becomes so incredibly invested and you just know that one part of your heart will weep as the other rejoices. Love can win and lose in the same breath.

If you are in two minds we urge you to pick this book up, the synopsis sure grabs you but it doesn’t even come close to doing the depth and intricacy of this story any justice. Timing is everything and waiting for that moment when your heart can be joined without emotional consequences to the one it wants…well, how many grains of sand is contained in an hourglass?! We never doubted nor questioned any aspects of the love in this story. We felt it, we lived it and we experienced it. This Author grabbed our hearts and mind and translated our thoughts into tears, swoons and a thunderously beating pulse. Three intrinsically woven destinies and hearts impacted by love, lust, circumstance and family.

“I’ve been by your side our entire lives. No one knows you better than me. You breathe, so do I. You hurt, I ache. When you smile…it’s hard to see through the stars blinding me…”

We get to know the characters who’ve grown up together through flashbacks- as we seamlessly jump around in the lives of Killian, Kael and Maverick past and present. It was a flawless experience, as we learn of the intensity of love Maverick feels for Killian and the ultimate strength and love of friendship she shares with Kael, his brother. Maverick is loved by both brothers to an all-encompassing height and intensity. She just doesn’t realise, as both are disguised in appropriate robes befitting roles of which Maverick is unaware.

“While he was the sun that lit your world, you were the darkness that shadowed mine.”

Where we would normally question we understood. Where we would ordinarily take sides, we found none to take. We have to give a standing ovation to KL Kreig for giving us such an enticing, compulsive, sexy and emotional read, where really, she could’ve taken an easy way out yet she never did. As far as passionate and angsty reads go we will repeat ourselves like a broken record by saying– this is a winner, it left us breathless!
