FILTHY RICH (Blackstone Dynasty #1) by RAINE MILLER :: REVIEW

“When you find whatever it is that makes you happy, Caleb, hold on to it with everything you’ve got. Your heart will let you know.”

We spent the weekend with one of the most beautiful, sweet and sexy couples and we enjoyed every minute of it. Caleb Blackstone, where do we sign up to get one of him?! Really, what a beautiful man inside out. Patient, understanding, caring, romantic and funny with that passionate raw dominant side Raine Miller is so adept at writing. He was just perfection. Sure, it had a bit of that insta love feel but it was completely believable and we fell in love with the pure romance as well as the intensity of it. Caleb’s possessiveness was never over the top because he wasn’t afraid to show his vulnerable side, in fact he stole our hearts completely.

‘I’d never known that sort of love. Never known unconditional, fearless love. Apart from Nan. But from a man? Was it really possible?’

Brooke was a darling girl, so sweet and innocent but at times she had a real potty mouth. We were immediately endeared to her person and the relationship she had with her Nan. Again, we connected with Brooke’s character completely and felt her hesitations, her upsetting past and why she struggled with certain aspects in life. So much tragedy with a price to pay meant we absolutely felt her loneliness and desperate need to feel safe and secure.

‘Like Sleeping Beauty in the fucking fairy tale, my beauty came to life in my arms.’

Swept up in a passionate whirlwind of a romance was just what we wanted and Filthy Rich was absolutely that. In some respects it felt like a modern day fairy-tale and we appreciated it for this very reason.

‘I kissed her forehead and stilled as I thought about how right this actually felt. Hadn’t known I was missing anything. Hadn’t known it was possible for someone to steal your heart without even knowing they’d done it. Hadn’t known I needed her.’

Although there was emotional angst with a dash of drama it never became implausible nor was it added for effect. Raine Miller could’ve gone there, but she never did and we applaud her for that. This story was all about the romance and finding your soul mate. We were reminded at times of The Blackstone Affair with some similarities of character, but this was not necessarily a bad thing.

‘Brooke and I were inevitable. Inevitable.’

Also, on a final note, we do have to mention the book cover. No question this is one of our favourites as it’s so rare that a male character completely fits with the cover model. Kuedos, Raine Miller for getting it spot on and for making Caleb come alive in our minds.
