Our Review

“Sex is for the body. Romance is for the soul.”

Oh swoon….seriously you could have wiped us off of the floor with a spoon. Our hopeless romantic hearts danced with sheer joy and swoony romance. Sometimes we come across a book that reminds us of why we love romance so much and this would be it. In many respects, the synopsis doesn’t do this story justice as what we took away from it was ultimately romantic beauty with an emphasis on love. This is without question our favourite Leisa Rayven book we’ve read.

“Deep is how I want you. Deep is where you live. Wrap me in your legs now. Drown me in your kiss. Keep me safe inside you. Let me see your soul. I’m half a monster without you. When I’m deep you make me whole.”

Max Riley is now firmly on our list of all-time favourite male characters. He literally is Mr Romance – pun intended- and be still our hearts as we take a moment to gaze into the beyond and revel in this feeling of complete romantic devastation. What a man. For us he provided the intrigue, the reason for why this story soared in our hearts, the driving force of this love story. He was quite simply lush, divine and addictive. How he came to be, his past, his current situation and his reasoning’s for who he is. It all just made for compulsive addictive reading. Standing ovation Leisa Rayven, you nailed a good old fashioned hero who lived by the beat of his all-encompassing heart. Dedicating a life to making women feel worthy of romance and important in life. This man sure had it all figured out. Well, until Eden throws a spanner in the works.

“You’re so starved of romance in your life, you’re like an emotional skeleton. I intend to put some meat back on your bones. Make you believe in something other than a bleak apocalypse.”

Eden Tate is a bit of a cynic and doesn’t really believe in romance or soul mates. She’s sarky and determined to succeed in her journalism career. She doesn’t suffer fools gladly yet loves her sister and Nan with all her heart. She’s got such a vulnerable side which she unwittingly shields with a tough girl façade. Whilst happy, she has real strength of character. Eden’s quite aware that her struggle to get to where she wants is in the hands of her boss and the next big storyline. Feeling frustrated with when and what she’s at the end of her tether.  That is until a mystery lands in her lap via her gorgeous sister Ash, the intrigue of the elusive Mister Romance. Eden is tenacious and doesn’t take no for an answer, she will uncover the story of how a man is wooing women who are forking over thousands to be romanced by him. She will nail this story to send her career into the right direction, and we were there on the side-lines willing her on.

“What are you thinking about?”

“Oh, you know. The Cult of Love.”

“Cult?”

“Yeah. People who are in it won’t shut up about how wonderful and fulfilling it is, but after a while they realize it’s all borderline-crazy, and forever-happiness is a giant con. Getting through life is hard enough without the burden of carrying someone else with you.”

Oh how we loved this book, it truly stole our hearts and felt different and exciting. It’s so much more that your typical escort romance. Whilst there were a few cheesy moments towards the end –for want of a better word- the heart of the story was beautiful and the idea that romance can turn around even the hardest cynic was so well written. This is a story we won’t stop thinking about for a while, that’s for sure. We loved it and know you will too!

‘He once told me that you could live and die within the lifetime of a good kiss, and that’s what this feels like.’

Synopsis

Max Riley is the man of your dreams. Or at least he will be, for a price.

As his alter-ego Mister Romance, Max is a drop-dead gorgeous escort who makes romantic fantasies come to life. No sex, just swoon-worthy dates to die for, and the cream of New York’s socialites can’t get enough.  Whether they want a dominating billionaire, bad boy with a heart of gold, hot geek, sexy biker, or best friend who loves them from afar, Max can make it all happen, but he’s careful to keep his real identity a secret.

Enter investigative journalist Eden Tate. Having caught wind of the urban legend of Mister Romance from a lovestruck client, Eden is determined to publish a scathing expose on Max and his ability to swindle lonely society women out of their fortunes.

Desperate to protect his anonymity and his clients, Max challenges Eden to give him three dates. If she doesn’t fall in love with him, she can run her story with his blessing. If she succumbs to his charms, the story dies.

Cynical Eden has no doubt she can resist his fake romance personas, but when the real Max admits he’s falling for her, she has to decide if the professional liar is telling the truth, or if the passionate man with the mysterious past is just one more character designed to con her out of her career-making story.
