THE PLAYER DUET by K BROMBERG

“I’ve played on grass my whole life, Scout. There’s no need for me to see what’s out there when it’s green beneath my feet.”

It’s been a while since we read a K Bromberg book so we dived into this duet with much excitement. For us, it was like a trip down memory lane and we immediately remembered why we love this Author’s writing, it was fabulous; easy, sexy and addictive reading. And the hero…oh wow….the hero stole our hearts. For us, The Player was a good read and served in setting up The Catch, which was without question our favourite of the two. Book one was the starter and book two the main course and dessert, if you will, – it felt more meaty….pun intended. But not only that, The Catch was all about the intricacies of the storyline, which we loved.

‘I surrender. Heart. Body. Mind. Fear.’

It’s not easy trying to live up to a baseball legend, especially not if it’s your Dad, whose expectations add even more pressure. This is the first -but not only- issue troubling Easton Wylder, who truly is a legendary baseball player all on his own merit. He’s a home grown star, and is loved by the fans. Sadly a dirty play by an opposing team player means it all comes crashing down and Easton’s journey takes a complete turn off the path he was happily and successfully on. It’s not all bad though as it brings him Scout Dalton.

“I’ve never met anyone like you, Scout. You challenge me. You make me laugh. You encourage me. But more than anything you get me. My need for this game that I love as much as I hate.”

Scout is also under a lot of pressure from her infamous father, Doc Dalton, but for different reasons. As the new physical therapist for the Austin Aces, her first patient is the sexy and cocky Easton and their first meeting does not go well. Scout’s confidence and life of baseball means she can give as good as she gets though. The attraction between them in undeniable and the intensity of their connection believable as the story progresses.

‘…the look in his eyes tells me he understands. It tells me he’s coming home to me. It tells me he knows I love him for him. It tells me he loves me too.’

Easton and Scout had so many obstacles thrown their way and whilst there was drama and angst it never felt unbelievable nor did it feel added for effect. Rather, this story was about two characters coming to terms with and overcoming what life throws at you, finding love, dealing with strained family relationships as well as growing as a person under strenuous circumstances.

“Clear mind. Full heart, Scouty-girl. Never forget that. Never.”

This duet was romantic, sexy and had that fabulous sports element which we love, the balance was spot on. Easton stole our hearts and Scout was a brilliant heroine. We definitely recommend this swoony and addictive duet! Oh and sigh…….the epilogue!!!!!!
