We were give the wonderful opportunity to go to a pre-screening of the movie Book Club in London recently courtesy of Woman and Home magazine. Prior to watching the movie we were treated to a panel which featured: Miranda McMinn- Executive Editor, Jane Druker- Assistant Editor, Kath Brown- Editor, Jane Curran- Food Editor; all from Woman and Home as well as Vanessa Viner from Laters, Baby UK. A discussion of the wonderful insight into women and relationships and we want to thank these ladies for a superb evening at the Ham Yard Hotel, London.

Book Club is a romantic comedy film directed by Bill Holderman starring Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen as four friends who read Fifty Shades of Grey as part of their monthly book club, which subsequently sets about a change in how they view their personal relationships.

Book Club is a hilarious, sweet, romantic and extremely poignant movie. Women are too often dismissed after a certain age as being ‘over the hill’ sexually or that bad bad word ‘middle-aged‘ which is a taboo word as far as we’re concerned. It takes the concept of ‘only an older man can be sexy whereas an older woman can’t’ and sticks the middle finger up at it. Age is just a number baby…confidence in one’s own sexuality is not! Generational gaps will never be a thing of the past but this movie gives it a jolly good go to change just that!

We fell in love with Fifty Shades of Grey back in 2011 and loved it for what it was; a wonderful and beautiful romance with super sexy kink. It will always have a special place in our hearts as will its Author, E L James. And we know we are not alone in this. Thousands of women who follow our Book Blog; TotallyBooked have told us time and time again how this series changed their life. Be it that it ignited their love of reading, improved their marriage or sex life or gave them the self-confidence to voice their inner needs, wants or desires. That’s a lot of positives and none of them are age related.

As Fifty fans we loved the references, surprises and hidden nuggets from the Fifty Shades series. It made this movie even more special to us. The story, the actors and the message it sent was perfection. We haven’t laughed so much in years at the movies whilst nodding our heads in agreement at the same time.

Whilst we don’t have a book club we go to per se, through our blog we started an online TBB Facebook Book Club a few years back where we can share, discuss and recommend books whilst chatting to other readers across the world. It’s a wonderful international book club and we love it with all our hearts. A closed sanctum where we can be who we truly are and be all about the love of books. Books have the ability to change lives, never underestimate the power of the written word!
