What a fabulous second chance romance! The quaintness of the small town surroundings felt like coming home, the characters completely stole our hearts, and once again Emma Chase made our hearts sing! Whilst we love surprises and variety in our reds, we also love the fact that we know what we’re going to get with an Emma Chase story, and that is a very good thing. We know she will paint a permanent smile on our faces, spread warmth through our hearts with her humour, her swoon, her romance, and her witty as hell prose, and leave us swooning over her leading man! Garrett Daniels had that charm, cockiness, vulnerability, and swoon we love in her men!

“I remember everything, Callie.” He picks up a strand of my hair, brushing it with his fingers. “Every one of your dreams…your laughs” – he cups my cheek – “and the tears too.”

Garrett Daniels was 15, and Calloway (Callie) Carpenter 14, when they first met in high school, falling in love and spending four years together. The epitome of the high school sweethearts who would marry and live happily ever after, Callie and Garrett seemed destined to have it all…together. And so it was until Callie moved away to San Diego to pursue her dream in the theatre, while Garrett stayed in their hometown of Lakeside, New Jersey, teaching at the local high school. Sadly, distance and separation soon took its toll on their relationship, causing them both to go their separate ways. We do learn throughout the story there were other heartbreaking underlying factors that led to their breakup.

Garrett Daniels, now 34 is the third of the Daniels brothers, single and content with his life just the way it is. He doesn’t need to take anyone else’s opinion or feelings into account, well, except his little fluff ball dog, Snoopy, and he likes it that way. He can do single bachelor things, like buy a Ping-Pong table for his dining room without discussing it with anyone, and he’s not looking for a relationship…..until……

Callie Carpenter has been living her dream in San Diego, poised become the new executive director for the Fountain Theatre Company, a job she’s spent years striving for and dreaming of. Callie is offered a temporary position teaching drama at the local high school for a year, coincidentally, where her ex-boyfriend and love of her life, Garrett teaches, and Callie discovers Garrett, the gorgeous, confident, witty, sexy history teacher, and much-loved football coach has matured into a sexy man! As Callie says…‘ young Garrett was hot, older Garrett is ‘knee-weakingly, panty-incineratingly, H-o-T, double-fuck, hot’ and we couldn’t agree more!

Both soon discover those old feelings never abated, they had merely lain dormant the past sixteen years. As Callie and Garrett recount their past history together, they also see each other through different eyes, loving the confidence that comes with maturity, both emotionally and physically.

We loved everything about Getting School and can’t wait for more in this series. The small town felt familiar, as though we belonged because Emma Chase gave us time to acquaint ourselves with the quirky loveable townsfolk, and families, providing many laughs along the way. We truly believed in and felt the emergence of Callie and Garrett’s feelings as they navigated their new relationship.

“You were always my girl, Callie, even after you weren’t anymore. Do you know what I mean?”

And of course, Garrett. He was the bomb! Emma Chase is the undisputed queen of the male pov, providing insights and many, many laughs with, and at Garrett’s expense! Another winner from a TBB fave author! Grab this one! We promise you won’t be disappointed!
