MOONLIGHT SINS (de Vincent #1) & MOONLIGHT SEDUCTION (de Vincent #2) by JENNIFER L ARMENTROUT

EXCERPT from MOONLIGHT SEDUCTION
There were only two times in Gabe’s thirty-two years of life that a damn feather could’ve knocked him flat on his ass.
This was one of them.
Gabe still stared at the doorway Nic had walked out of, completely and utterly shocked. “Was that really her?”
Dev made a sound that was a cross between a laugh and a cough. “Little Nikki isn’t so little anymore, is she?”
Little Nikki hadn’t exactly been little the last time he’d seen her, but she hadn’t looked like that. Holy shit, she didn’t have that ass or those tits the last time he’d seen her.
What the fuck?Did he seriously just think that?
Disgust churned in his gut. He would not—could not think of her tits or ass. Even acknowledge that she now had them aplenty based on how that shirt was stretched across her chest and how those jeans hugged her—
Damn it.
Didn’t matter that she was now in her twenties—barely in her twenties.
But shit, Nic had always been a cute girl. A scrawny and goofy-as-hell cute girl, but she was . . . she was now fucking beautiful.
He almost laughed.
The whole late-bloomer thing whirled around in his head, but it was true. Her face had filled out during her absence, finally matching those big brown eyes and that wide, expressive mouth.
She’d gone from cute to dangerously stunning.
Gabe couldn’t believe she was here. He forced himself to turn to his brother. “Were we unable to hire someone else?” Because anyone would’ve been a better choice.
Dev arched a brow as he folded his arms. “As you know, we’ve had a problem retaining staff recently.”
That they did.
“And with what has happened here, I couldn’t help but accept when Richard brought up the idea of bringing Nikki in to fill her mother’s spot. She was already coming home. Plus, she knows how to mind her own business and keep quiet.”
Gabe’s jaw tightened. Nic definitely knew how to keep quiet. Lifting a hand, he dragged it through his hair. What in the hell?
He honestly had no clue how to proceed with this newest development. Like he needed another damn issue in his life right now. He’d honestly believed he was never going to see Nic again, at least not up close. Maybe from a distance, because distances were safe.
Shit.
How old was she now?
He quickly did the math in his head. Twenty-two. Her birthday was coming up. November. She’d be twenty-three then. Fuck. What he remembered of twenty-three was a whole lot of partying and screwing. That was a lifetime ago.
The stupidest question surfaced. Did she still make little bracelets and necklaces out of wood? He’d hoped so. The girl had a natural talent.
“Is this going to be a problem?” Dev asked softly
Our Review
SPOILER FREE – TWO BOOK REVIEW
“Makes you wonder if the de Vincent curse is real, doesn’t it?” Two things happened to the de Vincent women. They either end up…unstable. Or dead.”
We’re loving this series; it’s like an epic dark family drama with copious secrets, deceptions and an awful lot of evil minded scheming. We’re still completely in the dark where this series is going and have no idea what lies behind it all. Fabulously thrilling, suspenseful, angsty and dramatic. Extremely sexy and passionate. We will be eagerly awaiting the next book! This review is a double review for both Moonlight Sins and Moonlight Seduction. This series is a perfect mix of books we have loved in the past and we’re excited for where this strange and deceitful journey is taking us.
“He’s never had anyone fight for him the way he has fought for others. I have to ask. Are you going to fight for him..?”
In Moonlight Sin we have Lucian’s story. Lucian is a beautiful troubled soul, the artistic one. The one who quietly suffers and craves normality. Craves love. Whilst he carries a serious façade, he’s a cheeky and arrogant young man who’s as smooth as you like when he wants to be, with spot on banter. He carries a burden so heavy and has not had it easy yet his heart is open to love which takes him by surprise.
‘There was a buzz in his veins as he stared at her, a heat that was burning him from the inside out. Flames that would engulf him whole, and what a way to burn.’
Julia is one of the good ones. A heart of pure caring gold, she too has not had an easy few years from which she’s had to escape. Packing her job in, she takes a live in job as a nurse caring for a young woman in a psychological coma. On her last night, before the move, she meets a man who sweeps her off of her feet for one night only. Although Julia is a sweet and somewhat innocent girl she went for it and now can’t forget this man…and she won’t have to.
“I can handle your real. I can handle you.”
The connection, attraction and passion between Lucian and Julia was not only intense, it was comforting and of course super flirtatious and hot. In one respect; despite the way they met, it could almost be considered enticingly slow burn whilst drama, murder and mystery entwined itself in their love story. Whilst many secrets were uncovered this vine covered house and family curse that simmers deep is yet to reveal itself.
‘Gabe wasn’t still in love with a woman who didn’t want him. He was in love with a ghost, and no one could compete with that.’
‘She knew she was falling for him. Falling for him again, and this time it would be harder and further before she hit bottom.’
In Moonlight Seduction we have Gabe’s story. He has demons and secrets which coupled with living in the vine covered house of darkness where spine tingling shadows reside makes for a life of not a lot of love and peace. That is until Nikki, ten years his junior is back to take on her Mum’s role as housekeeper whilst she battles cancer. Nikki has had a crush on Gabe for as long as she can remember; a crush all the de Vincents boys are aware of. Nothing’s changed for Nikki except the crush turned into love, but has it got any chance of being reciprocated?
‘His chest hurt like someone had taken a dull knife and carved his heart out. Worse part was that he’d wielded that knife.’
Gabe and Nikki’s relationship is not an easy one, so many discoveries and revelations – not all positive or easy to confront. So much angst, heartbreak and suffering. All culminates in an arduous romantic journey where the obstacles are both ones you can see as well as ones that come out of left field with tragic repercussions. So much left unsaid and unresolved, however Jennifer Armentrout wrote with conviction and her strength of characters made it addictive reading.
“All I know is that – fuck, I can’t stop thinking about you. When you’re not right in front of me, I’m wondering where you are and what you’re doing. And when you are near me, it takes literally everything in me to keep my hands off you. I know that I want you more than I ever wanted anyone in my life.”
The character dynamics, the eerie mystery and the simmering tension in a well-paced ongoing story had us hooked in both books. Surprising twists and the well placed revelations; each of the de Vincent book brings new drama, more untimely deaths but ultimately a love that is pure, honest and a much needed light in the darkness and curses. We have to mention that we are so intrigued by Devlin. Whilst he comes across aloof, harsh, cold and somewhat; we have a feeling that within that hard exterior lies a soul that’s fighting to keep continual disaster from touching his loved ones. He reminds us of an arrogant anti-hero that despite of his actions they in fact come from a place of worth, responsibility and protection. But who knows, we could be wrong and can’t wait to find out!
‘What were their nicknames? There were three of them….The nicknames were something morbid and bizarre based on their wild and almost unbelievable behaviour…’

Synopsis

MOONLIGHT SINS BOOK ONE
New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout delivers the unforgettable story of a woman whose new life has just begun—but may end in murder…
Julia Hughes has always played it safe until she learned a very painful lesson. Now Julia’s starting over with a job in the Louisiana bayou—and a scorching encounter with a stranger, only to discover he’s Lucian de Vincent… her new employer. The de Vincent brothers share a massive fortune and a dark reputation. Julia cares for their troubled sister, but a menacing presence in the mansion—and the ever-present temptation of Lucian—prove dangerously distracting.
Lucian’s grandmother claimed de Vincent men fall in love once—and hard. Apparently, it’s Lucian’s turn. Julia’s compassionate care of his twin makes Lucian want to lay himself bare. But some secrets are better for Julia not to know.
The recent “suicide” of Lucian’s father is the latest in a string of deaths on the estate. Someone is eliminating the de Vincents. And the best way to get to Lucian may be through Julia…
**MOONLIGHT SEDUCTION BOOK TWO**
The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel…
Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up… and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.
Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman… one who’s being stalked from the shadows. Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe—and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.
