Our Review

“Don’t fall in love with me, Gypsy.”
“Then don’t make me.”
I whispered.

What an emotional rollercoaster this was. In fact, for the first time since we can remember, we were tempted, for one millisecond, to sneak a peek at the end as we were that concerned about an element of this story. We’re glad we didn’t because the surprises in this story, the twists and revelations blindsided us and the surprise element was paramount to the optimum enjoyment of Confess!

“Fuck me like you’ll never let me go,” she whispered in my ear. My chest contracted, and I buried my face in her neck, so she couldn’t see the lies in my eyes

We were constantly torn between desperately needing to get to the end, dreading the end and in the same breath, never wanting Lucian and Gypsy’s story end!  What a conundrum for a reader! So bravo A Zavarelli, you really gave our hearts a pounding in this one, and we loved every breathtaking minute. You know you’re addicted to a story when you find yourselves reading whilst stirring the pasta sauce for dinner! When we say we couldn’t put this book down, we really couldn’t put it down!

‘For years, every hour had been grey. I’d lived under a cloud of perpetual rain until she came along, and now my life was filled with color. A storm of passionate red. She was changing the landscape of my life, and I didn’t like it. ‘

Gypsy Blue is a twenty three year old con artist, drawing on her beautiful looks and killer body to lure men into her web and fleece them of money. It’s a tactic that’s ensured she can provide financially for herself and her younger sister Birdie. She’s good at what she does and uses her sexuality to her advantage.

‘She was the ethereal oasis that men wished they could find in the parched desert. At a different time in my life, I might have been one of them.’

Lucian West is a forty year old high profile criminal Attorney and one of the most hated men in America because of the people he defends. Lucian is a champion of the indefensible, those the legal system has condemned before their case has even been heard. Why is Lucian so passionate about defending these criminals? What is his darkness and what happened in his past that lead him into this part of the law?

‘Lucian looked up from his desk with eyes devoid of emotion. He seemed empty and cold, but for some reason the only thing I felt when I looked at him was profound sadness.’

With her sister Birdie in danger, Lucian offers Gypsy a chance to save her, and that is, she must agree to be his wife, by contract only, for a period of two years. During this time Gypsy is to be at the mercy of Lucian, obeying him without question. Quite the feat for the sassy, independent Gypsy!

Blackmailed into a marriage, Gypsy ponders what’s in it for Lucian, and why her, and how will she last two years with this man? What she didn’t count on was the way she would be pulled to this man, how he would get under her skin and work his way into her heart. As their agreement turns to mutual respect and more, the passion takes hold and wow! What passion! It sent shivers down our spines!

‘He could disarm a woman with a single look, but he chose not to. I wanted to know what made me so different, but I was too afraid to ask.’

Gypsy and Lucian cut two sad figures. Gypsy had endured much in her young years -her past was tragic and shocking, Lucian’s was sad and tragic. Both carried a darkness, though Lucian kept his buried deep. Lucian was so commanding yet it was his vulnerability that hit our hearts. He was such an enigma!

‘She will be my ruination. My damnation. My biggest regret. So help me, God.’

We can’t even begin to express the way in which the author constantly kept our hearts beating, breaking, racing and soaring. Back and forth we went through a gamut of emotions, never resting on our laurels for what was yet to come. We felt as though we couldn’t breathe as little by little Lucian and Gypsy began to chip away at each other’s resolve. If we thought A Zavarelli was going to go easy on us, we were mistaken, with every turn of the page making us gasp and sending our stomach in knots!

‘If I were a sexually motivated man, I might have considered her a nice trophy, but to me, she was just another tragedy. ‘

Delivered with an unmistakable level of passion, suspense and heart-rending emotion, Confess is a story you need to experience without spoilers, and believe us when we say, we’ve simplified what was one intense, surprising and twisty story that will give your heart quite the workout!

Synopsis

Lucian
A life free from sin.
For seventeen years, I have lived and breathed those words. But there is no balm to the war inside my soul.
Until her.
The mysterious beauty too lethal to taste. She’s a thief, a con, the essence of everything I loathe. Still, she lures me in with her lying eyes.
In the dark of night, she came to confess her sins, and in the light of morning, I plotted to steal her away.
She will be my ruination. My damnation. My biggest regret.
So help me, God.

**
Gypsy
A word of advice? Don’t show me your vulnerabilities because I will find a way to exploit them. I learned the hard way to take what I want from life with no regrets.
Until him.
He’s one of the most hated men in America. A soulless criminal attorney. A recluse. And as of five minutes ago, my new husband.
He wants to keep my secrets and collect my tears, but he should know that a wild animal can’t be domesticated.
I don’t know how to love men. I only know how to leave them.
With everything I want.
